Epilogue
"Kai, are you awake?" He blinks slowly, trying to open his eyes and groans as the soft sunlight trickles in pressing on his gently but still they burn. He hisses lightly and registers a soft hand running through his hair, it's gentle and loving and Kai snuggles in further because the feeling is nice, warm and comforting and he wants it to stay that way. He hears faint laughing from above and frowns snuggling in more. "Gosh you big baby" Familiar voice mutters and Kai's eyes snap open to find his brother sitting with a soft smile.
Kai opens his mouth but a finger is pressed to his lips, "Don't scream please, my ears are bleeding already" Yeonjun says but Kai screams anyways just because he can. "Hyung! I missed you" He screams exaggeratedly just for the sake of it and tackles him to the ground and Yeonjun groans beneath him. "You are so fucking heavy, Get off" He grunts trying to push Kai off him who only laughs gleefully and continues smothering Yeonjun quite literally.
"Ugh he has been gone for only a week, quit the theatrics. You don't even care if I go missing" Another voice whines above them and Kai lifts his head to look at his boyfriend, the term still makes him giddy but for the love of god, hell will not show it out just to save himself the pain of Soobin's smug face. "Meh whatever" with that he continues to snuggle up to Yeonjun ignoring the offended gasp his dramatic boyfriend emits and later starts grumbling about unfair treatment, discrimination, priorities and what not.
He doesn't let go of Yeonjun until Soobin wrestles him out physically telling him that Yeonjun would choke, Yeonjun then dramatically wheezes just for the show of it and Kai rolls his eyes. "I hate both of you" He grumbles pouting and Yeonjun sticks his tongue like the mature older brother he is and Soobin simply shrugs and says "you really don't"
Kai rolls his eyes and walk away giving them both attitude because he simply can. It's the end of the year and their exams had finished, Yeonjun had managed to submit his project before the deadline and it was gorgeous. Kai did convey the same but unfortunately for Yeonjun, he cared about the model more than the clothes, Soobin would look good even in rags and he knew that, wouldn't let anyone else tell him otherwise.
He showers and eats breakfast with both of them filled with jokes, sneaky hand holding and stolen kisses and oh! Yeonjun cringing and screaming at Soobin of course. Yeonjun had come in terms with it quite well, if Kai has to be honest. At first they didn't do anything before Yeonjun and his brother was thankful for it, but later in his year he met someone else whose name he won't disclose apparently and said that Kai would meet him directly if that someone and Yeonjun decide on taking one step further.
His brother went on occasional dates with a guy and always gushed about it to Kai who was curious to put a face and name on this mysterious person but yeah he trusts Yeonjun and will wait until his brother is comfortable to make them meet and on the bright side he and Soobin can kiss freely now and do all the couple stuff in front of Yeonjun, they were a little tentative at first but then one day Yeonjun shouted at them to kiss so now Kai layers it thick now just to see Yeonjun cringe at him.
He still remembers his first kiss, it was at Soobin's dorms, he was out with Soobin that day and it had started raining so they both ended up running towards Soobin's room because it was nearer than Kai's apartment and they were both drenched by the time they made it, Soobin's roommate was right there who greeted Kai stiffly and then he awkwardly excused himself and ran towards other dorm. Soobin had justified that his roommate knew they were dating and probably wanted to give them privacy.
"Um Anything to drink or eat?" Soobin had asked politely as he handed Kai a towel to dry himself, "Tea please!" Kai's muffled response made Soobin go fond as he took the towel from the younger man fussing about how Kai was doing a terrible job at drying himself and took it upon himself. They both were close , Soobin's breath fanning his mouth and it had sent goosebumps all over his body and moving closer before a call interrupted their almost kiss.
Awkwardly Soobin had moved back mumbling that he would give Kai clothes and tea while Kai nodded and attended the call, It had been his friends asking where he was because they had crashed his apartment. Kai explained that he was in the dorms and they had hollered at him to use protection effectively turning Kai into a crimson shade, he had hung up instantly on their snickering. At the same time Soobin had come out with a hoodie of his and black sweats and Kai quietly changed in the room while Soobin too changed on the other side of the wardrobe.
Soon requested tea had been served and they cuddled on the couch as Soobin had put on some random show on the laptop, Kai didn't care, he was desperate for the kiss, so he had announced it aloud and Soobin spluttered before his whole face flushed with a violent red and Kai had straddled him, gave the puppy eyes and a pout and oh that worked wonders.
His lips were soft, almost silken, and pillowy against Kai's own. He could feel the soft tickle of his breath beneath his nose, fingers carding through his hair as they breathed each other in. Kai could taste lemons, probably from the lemon flavored tea they drank earlier. It started with small pecks barely anything more than that before Soobin flipped them and landed on top of Kai.
Warmth blossomed in Kai's chest, sparks igniting as Soobin leaned in close, lips brushing together, tentatively, for the second time. The butterflies let loose in his stomach and the smell of his cologne, of the musky, ocean scent of his conditioner was dizzying. But warmth had consumed Kai like a blanket on a winter night as he leaned into the kiss, Soobin's perfect bow shaped lips impossibly soft against his own.
"Alright, I'm meeting with my friends today so I'll be leaving in a bit." Yeonjun announces breaking Kai's train of thought. "Mm sure I'll stay" Soobin says nonchalantly as he bites down on his piece of toast. "I never asked you to" Yeonjun snarks and squints at his boyfriend who only shrugs shamelessly. "He will be alone and bored" Soobin says just as casually.
"I think Kai can survive half day alone Choi Soobin" Yeonjun attempts to glare at the mentioned who grins innocently when the three of them know his intentions are a complete 360 to that. "But Yeonjunnn" Soobin whines and Kai cringes while his brother sighs before muttering something along the lines of ' men trynna corrupt my brother ' but both of them act like they didn't hear it.
"Ok Choi, as much as one finger in my brother when I'm gone and you are dead" Yeonjun threatens with a finger raised up and Soobin raises his hands shaking his head in negative, "Your wish is my command " He says and Yeonjun for a good measure smacks him in the head while Soobin cackles. It's It's a vain promise and they both know that.
Sometime later when Kai and Soobin are cuddled up under the blanket browsing for shows to watch, Yeonjun announces that he is leaving and when they both don't respond, he hits their head and forcefully make them say a goodbye and them smiles like an angel and asks them to not burn down the house together.
Yeonjun's mood change is truly for the gods and pregnant women to note.
As soon as the door shuts behind them, Soobin, utterly shameless but also immensely endearing Soobin pulls him by the waist and plants his wonderful mouth on Kai's. The moment the mobile he was holding fell Soobin pulled Kai into him. Onto him. With both arms. Soobin's chest pressed against his, and warmth pooled in his stomach.
Kai's eyes were half closed, and so were Soobin's and his lips only looked small from afar, he realized, because of their doll-like pucker. They were perfectly big, really, now that he had a good look at them. Perfectly something.
He nudged his nose against his, and their mouths fell sleepily together, already soft and open. When Kai's eyes closed, her eyelids stuck. She wanted to open them. She wanted to get a better look at Soobin's too-dark eyebrows, he wanted to admire his soft cheeks and soft dimples. So he wanted to open her eyes and bear some witness.
Soobin's kisses were all taking. Like he was drawing something out of Kai with soft little jabs of his chin. He brought Kai's fingers up to his hair, and Kai couldn't open his eyes.
Soobin finally let him go with a small smile and Kai was having for breath as he looked at Soobin back only to see pure fondness which made him blush and Soobin chuckled cupping Kai's cheek and joining their foreheads together, "you are so adorable" He whispers and Kai whines and hides in the taller man's neck.
They stay like that for a while before Kai moves gets up to like Soobin in the eye as a thought strikes him, "Wait you told me you realized you like me in that ice cream date but couldn't come un terms with it" Kai asks him confused. "Yeah I knew I liked you deep down but just didn't want to admit it aloud and you? When did you start liking me?" Soobin always forwards, curiosity written all over his face and Kai gulps.
"So?"
"Twoandhalfyears" Kai mumbles fast and Soobin asks him to repeat it again and Kai feels embarrassed but he replies anyway.
"Two and a half years"
"But that's when we just met" Soobin says amusingly with a teasing smile. But Kai doesn't let it hinder him because he really wants to let Soobin know how much he adores him.
"Yeah I thought you were attractive at first so naturally I developed a small crush on you when I learnt you are sweet too but then as we started spending more time together I realized that you were much more than just a pretty face who is sweet. You were kind, caring and considerate and also helped me a lot, Always patient and supportive, but I loved that you also pointed out when I was wrong. So Choi Soobin I fell in love with you, deciding you were perfect-"
"I'm really not"
"And that I realized later that I did love you but you have your own flaws and problems and initially it was hard for me but then I came to terms with it because perfect is a relative term right? And for me you were still perfect and even more beautiful with the scars and issues, And if this is love then I love you" Kai finishes with a smile to find Soobin grinning maniacally but his eyes are misty.
Kai pulls the man down and places a kiss on the forehead and nuzzles his nose. "Loks like we are getting disgustingly sappy today" Soobin cringes and Kai rolls his eyes fondly. "I wanna give my speech, not fair that only you get to flatter me" Soobin asserts pinching hus cheeks and Kai groans.
"Enough deep talk" He hugs Soobin and buries his face in his chest and Soobin's rumbles through his body. "No listen to me, I initially thought you were like really really adorable and all I wanted to do is squish you to death."
"How romantic " Kai scoffs but Soobin ignores him moving on to tell his love confession.
"You were so adorable back then, so bloody precious and cute, So I doted on you obviously and you..despite being younger than me always knew you tell right things at right time. I wanted to protect you and guide you but I learnt that you gave me huge comfort about things I couldn't share with anyone else, never judgmental and so pure hueningie, God I miss how you were back them" Soobin sighs and Kai springs up with force.
"What do you mean?! That I'm not adorable anymore you better take that back, you are so mean" Kai hits him with a pillow eyebrows furrowed and Soobin obviously laughs like the heathen he is before pushing the pillow out of his hands and caging Kai between his arms.
"Ok ok I'm sorry, You are adorable now too. Just the cutest" He laughs and Kai just sticks his tongue out and sits in between Soobin's legs and leans give back against his firm chest as Soobin wraps his hands around his waist and rests his chin on Kai's shoulder.
"Would you have confessed hyung? If it weren't for me seeing you..um you two kiss?" Kai asks tentatively as he feels Soobin sigh behind him, "Maybe not" Soobin winces and Kai pouts looking at his boyfriend, "Why not?"
"Because I wasn't sure you liked me and I knew that day because of of your friends, they barged into my room and practically dragged me to your apartment telling me just to confess and obviously I denied it but Taehyun only just glared at me and said that you don't hate me but there is another reason why you behaved the way you did and I figured the rest on my own." Soobin tells him gently and Kai gapes, his friends had played wingman for him and he didn't even thank them. "You know you should thank them" Soobin tells him and Kai hums, "I probably should, without them I wouldn't have a boyfriend"
"It took us a tragic kiss to know" Soobin announces in between letting Kai know that his friends weren't the only catalyst, but this was the biggest of them all.
"Guess it did, The magic of tragic kiss sounds fitting doesn't it?" Kai sighs smiling softly, though a lot of them got hurt, fate had a way with its methods, sometimes cruel but necessary and sometimes desirable but unnecessary.
"On a second thought you might have had a boyfriend even without them, just a little later probably." Soobin thinks out aloud, jolting Kai out of his daydream, He only smirks and rolls his eyes in return, then his eyes widen when he remembers a certain night, "Wait that night at the party You were jealous of Banchan weren't you?" Kai looks at him eyes round with mischief and faux innocence and the raven groans leaning back, "No I wasn't, I was just trying to make sure you were comfortable." He attempts to salvage whatever remaining pride is present but to no avail.
Kai doubles down in laughter, face going red and laughter high pitched and filled with mirth and glee. "Oh my god, 'I was just making sure you were comfortable'" He mocks making a bizarre face and taking up a nasally voice as Soobin cringes, "I literally don't sound like that and it is true! I did want to make sure you felt on par with that stupid game. " Soobin seethes unknowingly pursuing his mouth and Kai laughs again, "Lord, you are so cute when you jealous! He says pulling Soobin down to smother him affection as the older one resists in retaliation and mumbles, "M'not cute" but as usual gives in soon anyway letting Kai smother him.
Soobin has never been the person to deny affection out of the two, mostly the one initiate it because Kai despite everything feels a little shy at times. Inly currently has he been able to come out of his bubble more and indulge Soobin in his antics, so nowadays Kai too feels bold enough to fluster Soobin rather than it being always the other way around which is amusing for him, to see always smirking and grinning Soobin going all soft mouthed and staring at him in surprise with his cheeks tinting pink, it's adorable and Kai is endeared.
Right then with the soft breeze blowing from the window carrying the sweet scent of soil before rain and Soobin behind him cuddling and both of them wrap the blanket around them as looney tunes plays in front of them ad Kai feels that there will a lot to do in future and so much for him to explore but at present he is content with everything he has and before anyone points out, Yes, They really had all those deep confessions while Looney tunes plays in the background.
