Chapter Text
One song
My heart keeps singing
Of one love
Only for you
-Harry Stockwell, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs (1938)
"I know you, I walked with you Once Upon a Dream..." Audrey sang quietly to the unconscious girl in front of her. Next to Evie was Uma who was in the same position as her. They looked like they were prepared to be in a coffin, to slumber for all eternity. Hades had told them that this would last only twenty-four hours. It was now an hour left for this thing to wear off.
Ben was with her, keeping vigilant. He had kept vigilant over both girls after he was rested and given a check-up from the nurses back at his house, he had a few cracked ribs on his left side, a bruise on his right side of his face and upper body but he was fine. Audrey and Mal knew he wasn't. He had stayed with Uma and Evie for the remainder past eleven hours. Audrey just got here as Mal left to get some rest on the couch. Jay and Carlos were there as well as sleeping next to the other VK.
"I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam," She continued to sing but even she could not seem to finish it. Ben noticed the falter in Audrey's voice as he looked away from Uma's face to Audrey.
He gave his friend a smile of reassurance. But even he felt so much pain and guilt overseeing both girls under a deathly type of sleep.
"I wonder, I wonder, I wonder why each little bird has a someone to sing to," Audrey sang trying to not lose hope. She brushed a lock of Evie's hair away from her face. "A gay little love melody?"
Uma's eyes were the first to open, wide, and full of alert. It startled Audrey and Ben, she almost did not see Evie croak out, "Why'd you stop... singing?"
Audrey could not help it, she began to cry and laugh as she took Evie's hand as Ben calmed Uma down.
"We're not dead," Uma said breathlessly. She looked at Evie and then burst out laughing. Evie laughed as well, both out of disbelief over what happened to them down in the Underworld. They did it, they survived. Kronos was sent back down Tartarus. Ben filled them in on what happened with Hestia dealing the final blow to Kronos.
"We survived," Evie said.
Later the next day, Hades came, not in her dreams but in the flesh. He looked relieved to see both girls awake and responsive when he got to their room. Uma and Evie had moved to a room so the nurses could keep an eye on them as well as their friends. The day before Ben had surprised Uma with bringing Harry and Gil. Harry had yelled himself hoarse as he told Uma never to give him a heart attack and if she was trying to do that then "Job well done!"
Uma had said nothing but roll her eyes. "I'm alive. Listen to me Jones, I'm alive."
Now Harry was asleep, his head in Uma's lap while Gil slept on the floor on Uma's foot of the bed. Audrey was curled on Evie's side while Ben and Mal were passed out on the couch. Jay and Carlos were asleep on the floor as well.
Evie and Uma were wide awake, it was nine o'clock when Hades arrived, they were reading a book while softly whispering to the other trying to piece together what had happened before and after eating the seed. With Hades came Ares, all grins when he noticed the demigods.
"You two did it," Ares said. "I tried to persuade Uncle H over here to have you both be my champions but he said-"
"No," Hades said flatly and unamusing.
Ares sighed dramatically. "Wasted potential! Gone!" Hades merely rolled his eyes at his nephew and turned his attention back to his great-niece and his daughter.
"How are you both doing?"
"Good," Evie said. "Broken wrist but its healing with a cast. Uma has a broken leg so she has to be on bed rest. I have a couple of broken ribs-"
"As do I," Uma piped up. Evie nodded.
"So we'll be on bed rest for the foreseeable future."
Hades hummed in agreement. "I have brought something for you. Gifts from the Gods," Hades made two boxes appear. "They did not want it to be too showy but Zeus insisted as he was trying to make up for what happened and Poseidon and Hestia may have persisted," Hades mumbled the last part as Ares snorted at the memory. Evie and Uma unwrapped the boxes. Inside each was a diadem, jewels. Uma made a face as Evie grinned. Hades explained that the diadem while very stylish also has magical wards embedded in the gems meaning that while they wear it, no harm can come to them. Not only that but it could turn into a necklace with a tug or a bracelet which Uma did and now wear with a content smile. Evie just placed hers on her own head. Then it was Ares's turn. He brought two swords with him and gave them to the girls.
"Since you, both cant be my champion, sadly. I'll be giving you the swords you both fought with, had Hephestus make them better, and had Hekate add a bit of magic." He winked. "You both fought well. Ballsy, well I might add. Even the mortal king, he did well under pressure. There may be hope yet for Auradon with him at the helm."
"Did you give Ben a sword?" Evie asked as Uma admired her own sword. Both looked like twins, golden with a dark leather grip and two encrusted jewels where the hilt is, in orbs. The colors are different as Evie looks closely. Hers is a sapphire ad Uma's is a red ruby. Ares nodded.
"Both of you have proved to the other gods something that they have not seen since Hercules time," Ares said.
"Which is?" Uma asked the god of war.
"A true hero of the Gods."
Audrey and Evie took a walk down to the wishing well once again.
A month had passed with new changes in Auradon and Auradon Prep. More VKs have been coming, with Evie, Uma, and Ben making sure each child was accommodated when they arrived. It would take time for the scars the last generation inflicted on the Isle children to hear but it would heal. Everything does in the end.
"You'll be staying with Snow then during the summer," Audrey confirmed with Evie. Both Evie and Uma were to stay with Snow White in the Summerlands when school let out officially. "We'll be able to spend time together!"
As Audrey rambled on summer plans, Evie's mind wandered. Uma was setting in nicely as well as Harry and Gil. Harry was determined not to leave Uma's side and so was Audrey. Mal joked that Uma and Evie had gotten personal guards from the Gods. Uma found it annoying while Evie found it sweet but did understand Uma's annoyance. She had to tell both Harry and Audrey that they would stay but needed breathing space. Audrey understood and after some more convincing from Evie's part, Harry got the message but he would still hover over Uma at times. She did not blame either of them or Evie's friends for hovering. They left on a whirlwind adventure and almost died.
But they were here.
Evie looked at Audrey. She could feel herself love this girl until the end of time and she would do so.
When Audrey introduces Evie to her parents, Philip cannot help but feel gleeful for his daughter.
"Ah," Philip says. "So you are the famous Evie, I have heard so much about from my daughter! Nice to finally meet you!" Evie has a nervous smile and Audrey already can feel her father preparing for horrible and cringe-inducing dad jokes. She was right.
Philip busts out one after another and to Aurora and Audrey's horror, Evie jokes back.
"There's two of them," Audrey groanes, and her mother nods in sympathy but she can't help but fail to fight the smile. Audrey has never been a fan of her father's puns and jokes so if Audrey's girlfriend jokes are just as bad as Philip, she was a keeper in his eyes already.
Besides the jokes that Audrey groans, Philip asks about her classes and Aurora askes about the business of a fashion line that Evie has done. Evie feels warmth in this cottage and love. She gets that from everyone and her father. She finally has begun to talk to him, not in her dreams but in Iris messages, rainbow chats that can be done as any god or goddess can. She is still trying to let go of her anger, in time it will but it will take time.
Her father thankfully has patience.
And so does his daughter.
