i’m finally playing dr1 for myself for the first time, and its got me thinking a lot about characters I typically don’t, or at least haven’t thought of in a while. I haven’t revisited this cast in years but something about them is still so warm to me, in the way the v3 and sdr2 casts aren’t (despite them having more of my overall favourite chrs).
Toko in particular has been on my mind a lot - Even though I don’t LOVE udg, the development of Toko’s character in it really reaches me emotionally. I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for stories about weird and sad and lowkey-hopelessly-romantic teenage girls
I really liked the writing style in this. It’s kind of what I imagine Toko’s writing might be like, only with a touch more rawness I’m not sure her more romanticised work has the room for. Something about the way Toko describes her feelings, specifically those towards Komaru here, how she can’t describe them - find the rights words for them, despite her talent status - at times. I think it gets her character and general mentality very well.
I really enjoyed diving into some of her more formative experiences in this, and how she views love through this sort of fragmentation that reflects her own view of herself, in many ways. I dunno 💔 I’m sure I could say more but I just really liked this <3 I might come back and add more some other time.

I need their dynamic to be explored more - there's a string of tension always there between them with the whole "you know - and I know you know, and you know, that I know, that you know" kinda thing they got going that's just so interesting to me. The constant performance the two are playing around others, especially when seen together, and how they know *just* enough about one another's more ~hidden~ sides to pick up on certain tells, yet not enough to fully make sense of any of it,,, aghhhh 💔💔 They will be each others downfall, one way or another.
I really liked the look into both of their mindsets here, Tammy's twisted, almost worship like fascination alongside Corvus's constant consideration of how any and all of his actions will affect others on basis of him being a leader. The tire from having this unrelentingly strong, patient and kind leader persona on so often, becoming a weak spot when faced with Tamsy; the one person he can let it down around (albeit, for not-so-great reasons). I always find it so interesting when characters (choose to, or can only) find solace in people that they hate, or know they're doomed to end things badly with.
In general Corvus's guilt was so fun to explore here!! There's a good chance it'll eat him up alive regardless of the outcome, but I mean!! Maybe there's a still a slim chance that he manages to get Tamsy on a leash..!! I'm rooting for you buddy ❤️🩹❤️🩹💘

Their bond is so special to me, thinking of them is like softly cradling a small, whispy, little ball of light in my hands and tucking it close to my chest. I care about the happiness and growth in their futures so deeply.

sooooo cutee <333333!!! seeing good parents jack and janet drake is so fun and refreshing <3 i loved their warming up to Bruce and the way both their characters were depicted, especially in how they formed friendships(??) with Brucie over the course of the story - Jake looking at him fondly as he asks if he's ever gonna have kids and Janet going from professionally cold to kissing him on both cheeks as a greeting :((( <333333 Tim's such a little charmer <3 Even Vickie Vale was wrapped around his little finger 😭😭<33333 so, so cute - it reminded me once again, of how much I absolutely ADORE the Batman 2022 and what it serves in the development of early-days'-Batman's character - but also low-key foreboding cause like, the Authors Note implies that eventually Tim WILL become Robin in this universe WHICH. Is it's own can of worms. And that's not even including the fact his parents do end up dying canonically (not to mention him figuring out Batman and Robin's identities?? He's pretty young here and canonically he doesn't find out who they are 'till he's 9 ((even IF he started going out earlier)), but considering he was, yknow, SNEAKING OUT OF HIS HOUSE AND FOLLOWING THE BATS ALL THE WAY TO GOTHAM'S NEXT ISLAND, travelling to Old Gotham at the closest and I doubt this version of Tim would keep much from at the very least, Bruce??). But the second I saw that circus ticket mention- GOD. it just makes that ending so much more bittersweet and foreboding cause they were literally going out for his BIRTHDAY,, Bruce had another gift for him waiting at home I'm ILL. Timmy being so excited to see the Flying Graysons :(( So happy after meeting Dick, and so painfully YOUNG. I'm SICK to my STOMACH.

really funny??? like, weirdly funny. i was already having a bad day n feeling sad when I read this but WOAH 😭😭 The writing here is so beautiful and almost raw?? in a way?????? like, the exploration of Miu's emotions is SOOOOO.....,,,. The way she just so desperately wants to be loved,, The interactions with the others, the watching them, the adding and crossing out the traits, the staying in her room and shutting all else out OUGHHHHHH.......???? Miu Iruma the CHARACTER you ARE............... she's so horrifically insecure behind all that provocativeness and it HURTS. Coin Operated Boy. Loving Machine. BAH. !! she builds herself a boyfriend. Builds herself someone to love her. Even though I'd already read that line featured in the description - the 'I love you' bit where she comments on how only a robot could only say those words with such sincerity and her heart just breaks a little at it - It still hit me so much - if not harder - when reading the actual story. Like. DAMN???? OKAY????????? Nahh like this story made me tear up a lil at some point cause. I think she really is just such a beautiful person. She wants to make things that'll change the world for the better and help people. She's young and she acts her age and her character is a joy to watch. She's so rightfully proud of her work and she's super smart too while still being like, majorly insecure and the way she covers it up and it all fits together is just,, UGHH,,! She is so genuine at heart. She is, deep inside, just so, so good. So scared, but so good. I love her deeply. AND KIIBO...... sorry I forgot to talk about him - I love the whole process around his creation and Miu's mindset and thoughts around it - I love his learning and sincerity. Every time he said something my heart clenched a little, cause it was always the sweetest words that were so full of love, love, love, but. With that also comes that background knowledge that it's all fake. That he is a program - a mechanical body; a robot - created and refined by Miu Iruma and not a real person expressing these feelings and thoughts naturally, no matter how real it all may be or seem. I'm not sure if the whole 'she gave him a heart' bit at the end was meant to be the story saying that his feeling were real or not or if it's up to interpretation, but even still I don't think it makes the act of her doing this - of building him, of kiibo being a robot in the first place - any less . BAH. okay whatever whatever I don't have the words rn - I really liked this story <3 Thankyou <33 for writing it <3

The give and take you're in his debt thing was sooooooooo,,,,,,,,,,, like okay. OKAY. sure fine okay. fuck?? really funny, it expresses their weird4weird-freak4freak-wack4wack-strange4strange-eerie4eerie-insane4insane nature in the way hoyo INTENDED it to be read...................... the way theyre written here is just so feasible to me, why did we all just forget what Setho's was like in Cyno's 2nd story quest that boy is NOT normal..... the come back of setho's stalker-ish behaviours that literally no one else would find attractive 🤤🤤🥰🫶.. I also really like the bringing up of Setho's whole god thing, I see so many people leave out Setho's connection with godhood in these stories, even though it's, for me at least, one of the main draws to their relationship besides the canon interactions?? I t was brought up in a joking way, but even STILL. soooaaa good //>O/!!! Can't forget mini-durin either <3 I loved all of his scenes and the fact that the whole beginning of this was the mistaking of mini-durin as a kid and SETHOS of all people coming in to keep up a lie (at first only semi-intentionally) that didn't have to do with hiim at ALL.????/ FREAK!!!.!11!!!!11!!1!!..!!!1!!!!!!!!!!1!1!!!!!!!111.1!1!!!..!1!1!!! in general them lying, scara's reactions to sethos and the whole marriage thing 😭😭😭😭😭.. guys..... 😭😭. theyre so funnyyy ^_^ <3333 also read this whole thing without questioning the constant usage of 'hat guy' even once. i've come so far from pausing at it every other sentence 🥰🥰🥰🥰 <33 <3.

the tumblr posts tagged below the work..................................................................... this was crazy work - they were doomed from the BEGINNING beginning,, LOVE seeing L figure it out part way through and how he contends with that - Light too, him just being so *earnest* in his want to help L catch Kira and L, knowing that he is - or more so that he WILL be - Kira, just being left to try figure out how it all came to be in the first place. The gut punch of "OTOHARADA KUROU" in bold at the very bottom of the work, even after everything- BAHH!! ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their dynamic throughout and the development of it was really good and almost bitter sweet in a way, knowing how it'd end. The inspiration from "Your Name" is also great - not just in how the fic uses the base plot for its premise, but how in Your Name, they do manage to change things and even meet each other naturally after the fact - here, that doesn't happen and probably won't, either. It just kinda reiterates the almost tragic feeling around it all - Icarus flew too close to the sun nd shit, but on both sides. Idk I feel like there'd a lot more I could say about this but like. I dunno if I have all the right words 😭😭,, I really liked the format and how it aided in the story telling of this fic - not something I'd usually enjoy I guess, but it worked really well here <33

Like, i'm not gonna go fully into it right now, but I just really like the way this story balances his loyalty (willing and unwilling) to the commission as well as like, his persona vs. facades, his struggles and experiences/lack there of and general view on himself/the situation/everything at ALL. im tired rn so this probably isnt making much sense, but it all seems characterised so well with such clear attention to detail and genuine care for the story and its characters,, Everything just works so seamlessly together and the story never gets boring - it's just one thing after the next and even as a reader you can start to feel overwhelmed in certain scenarios (I was stressing soooo much when they were calling him 'keigo' and 'takami' like I GET the approach and its very sweet to see you try to include him in this and all it's light hearted/no work/casual nature but I feel ILL!1!!11!!!!!!1) its just sooo !!!!!!! BAH!!!!!!!!!! expand later or whatever im TIRED and cant remember as much as I could anyways,,,
