“How do you do it? Control it, make it do whatcha want, stop it from taking over you and control you, keep it from going all…bleh.”

    “Bleh?”

    “You know what I mean.”

He snickered, shaking his head, but the smile slipped from his lips as they settled into a neutral line. He leaned on his cane to look up at the sky.

“I don’t. I mean, not really. People think it’s this majestic, all knowing force, but it’s a lot more like a child, always watching, always learning. When it connects with us, it tunes into every fiber of our being. It doesn’t know anything at first, we shape it with our every thought, our every use, every action. We’re its compass, moral or otherwise. You know what they say, what goes around comes around, that’s very literal here. I just…learned that a lot sooner than others do. They take from the world, so it learns to take. I give of myself, and only myself, so it gives in return…"

He glanced down at his hands, examining them carefully as they glowed faintly in the moonlight.

"...at least, that’s what I tell myself. That’s what I hope is the truth.”

    -

Or, what might've happened if Viktor's path with the arcane looked a little different.

    #SPOILERS# FAV PARTS NO CONTEXT_____

*However, when he glanced to the side, he found himself being scrutinized rather intently by Jinx. She had scooted impossibly close to him and was barely a few inches away at this point. He met her gaze, looked away, then looked back. She continued to stare with wide, unblinking eyes. For a moment, she narrowed her eyes, and then sprung up like a jack in the box and loudly declared.

    “I don’t like your hair.”

Jayce had no idea what to say, but she vaulted off the table and skipped away before he could even think about saying anything. So, he just shrugged it off as he was learning to do, and hooked his foot around a stool to drag it out. Plopping down, he pulled a paper with last night’s numbers down towards him and continued his breakfast while he reviewed them. There was a distressingly loud ‘clang’ in the direction Jinx had skipped off into, but he tried to ignore it and finish his breakfast while he still could. *

*“Maybe this is the key to making friends the whole time. The secret sauce, the hidden recipe, just start randomly doing their hair without asking.” Jinx pondered to herself as she sat on the table next to Jayce, leaning over to inspect the old map of Piltover Cait had produced for them. “It’s worked twice for me, well, three times if you count Isha. Well, that was more of a ‘got dropped on me’ situation. That seemed to have worked super well for her too. She got like, four friends out of that. Damn. I should make a list. Maybe write a book…I’d be great at that.”*

    * “Though, I do remember her saying something about how one of the counselors might have a better one. It was, uh, shoot…damn it, who was it…she was the pretty one, like the really pretty one. Like you just look at her and go ‘wow, people shouldn’t be allowed to be that pretty’–”

Snapping his fingers, Jayce declared. “Oh, she must’ve meant Mel. Was it Counselor Merderda?”

“Oh, yeah! That one, for sure. * -#VALID

*Ekko rolled his eyes right back, muttering something about dramatics under his breath while he herded her over towards the vent. As he half-pushed her into the vent, he stated. “If you can get through this entire speech without severely insulting anyone and get us some fists for this fight, then I’ll watch them so you guys can go galavanting around, okay?”

Jinx perked up, a sly grin sliding onto her face. “Hear that, Jay-Man? We got ourselves a babysitter, so gird your loins or whatever you Pilite’s do to prepare for shit and I’ll be back for you in a jiff.”

Before Jayce could sputter out a response, Jinx practically executed a full swan dive into the ventilation shaft and disappeared into the depths, Ekko in hot pursuit.*

*Jayce quickly found that going anywhere with Jinx was kind of like walking a cat of some kind than going for a leisurely stroll. She was always around per se, but the amount of time she spent actually walking with him was rather sparse. One minute she was next to him, hands clasped behind her back and head swiveling back and forth, and the next she was on the wall next to him or climbing up a random ladder or conveniently placed trash can. He tried, at first, to keep his eyes on her like Ekko had said, but after several mini heart attacks born of losing track of her at least ten times within the span of the first five minutes, he decided it was probably better if he just let her do her thing and he’d do his.

She’d survived this long without getting caught, she’d probably be fine. *

    * “Well.” Violet effortly broke the tension between them with a snicker. “She was right about one thing, I guess, you do sound like a goddamn fortune cookie.”

Viktor groaned. “Perhaps, if people stopped asking me deep, thoughtful questions, I would not have to give such dramatic answers. I am scientist, not a therapist.” *

    Summary

A series of scenes immediately following Silco and Jinx's first encounter and after.

Silco isn't fond of children and has no intention of becoming a parent, but sometimes things simply do not go according to plan.

Ship tag is only incidental, only alluded to vaguely in first chapter.

    Summary

Jinx would not have called herself college material. But when she finds herself forced to navigate the halls of the Academy of Piltover, she realizes just how different she is, and just how hard college can be. Until a boy who's all sharp edges and soft hair helps her get a book off a shelf she can't reach. Until that boy introduces her to his friend, who acts like he can't stand her but really would do anything to make her happy. Until she realizes that friendship can be born out of the most peculiar places -- even the trenches of the Academy.

Thus begins a tale where plankton are the topic of discussion more than once, Heimerdinger's good name is disrespected, a criminal partnership is formed, and a glitter bomb is slowly but steadily constructed.

    Summary

“You sound nervous, Viktor. Is something –” Then he caught sight of the small hand clutching the side of Viktor’s vest. Jayce’s words stuck in his throat as a face peeped out from behind the scientist, a young girl with startlingly blue hair looking up at him with fear. “Um – who’s this?”

    . . . years later . . .

“Just this once,” Jinx whispered, “Can’t I prove that I can help my family instead of watching them die?"

On the night Jinx loses her family, Viktor finds her and takes her in as his apprentice on the Hextech team. But when he falls ill, the lengths she’ll go to save him might just drive her mad…
