“Most of all,” she continues, voice barely above a whisper, as if divulging a secret made only for the two of them. “I love your heart.”
She punctuates her words with another kiss, leaning down to press her lips gently onto his chest, right where his heart is. She can feel it beating a steady rhythm from where her lips touch his skin, slowly gaining crescendo as she lets her words linger in the air, letting the weight of it sink deep into him.
“Thank you for being so tenacious,” she whispers into his skin, as if thanking his heart directly. “Thank you for keeping him alive.”
With Aventurine having just returned home from a mission, the two spend the morning wrapped in each other’s arms, basking in the tranquility that comes with each other’s presence, reminiscing about how far they’ve come; about the journey that comes with loving one another, and oneself.

Hiroto sighed, “but there must be a reason behind that, isn’t it? Most kids love getting cake, gifts and—“
“Well, not me. Maybe I would have loved it if I had experienced it when I was an actual kid but it’s a bit too late now.” Kariya regretted oversharing like that immediately. Fuck. He wasn’t planning on saying that much.
