The door slams open.
And slams isn’t a strong enough word. It rockets into the wall and Tony even sees some of the wall and ceiling crumble with the force of it, and he jumps out of his skin and turns around and sees Peter strolling inside like he didn’t just do that.
“HEY,” Peter yells, and he yells, and the kid has always been pretty loud but he just literally screamed, and Tony stares at him with wide eyes, and Peter waves at him like he’s completely normal and not at all yelling.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Tony asks, and he clears his throat. “You’re early, birdie, the place is a wreck, I wasn’t ready—”
“I know, it doesn’t matter, look at this,” Rhodey says. “We have a problem.”
Tony looks at it, a lot like Rhodey looked at it. Then he looks at Rhodey. “Who got you pregnant?”
“Me?” Rhodey nearly yells. “Not me. Oh no. This is yours—”
Tony barks out a laugh. “Surely not mine—”
“I mean this is—this is from your boy,” Rhodey says. “Your little boy, the gangly one, the little giraffe spider one with superpowers that’s sleeping a couple rooms over.”

“Good as new,” Tony says, and he squeezes Pete’s hand again and slowly opens his eyes.
Trees shooting up into the night sky, looking elongated and warped with whatever trauma his brain is currently experiencing. They sway with the soft breeze, knocking against each other, big feather duster. Tony’s whole body feels sliced and diced, and thinking about what happened brings up flashes of falling and spinning around like a boomerang and if that was happening to him it was happening to Peter, too. He glances at him.

Happy keeps on like he can’t hear him, “—and it isn’t even Pete’s actual birthday—”

They both hit the wall, and Peter winces, hearing Frank’s head take the brunt of the hit, and he shakes his own head and gets a better grip on him, adjusting him over his shoulder.
A gun falls off of him and clatters to the ground. Peter stands there, in a horse stance, and he stares at it like it’s going to shoot him all on its own.
“I’m just gonna leave that there,” Peter says, patting Frank’s back. “You can come back and get it later.”
Each step is like molasses. Like he’s in quicksand, except he’s not sinking. He’s moving like a robot, anticipating the swinging, because he’s barely got a hold of Frank now, and if he drops him, that’s it. He can’t be the guy that kills the Punisher. It wouldn’t even make sense.
