A handsomely stern man gripped his hand, and didn't say anything, or move around. In contrast to the doctors and nurses moving him around and poking him with needles and calculating stares, the man simply held his hand and looked at him like he was about to fall apart.
He looked scary, like death itself. Was he the grim reaper? Was he going to take him away?
His breathing picked up, he tried to squirm. Everything was too bright, too much. So much pain. He could only feel the grim reaper's hand holding his. The doctors started fussing over him more, and forced the grim reaper to let go of his hand.
He couldn't be more thankful.
“Seong Gihun-ssi, can you hear me?”

The year is 2015.
Life has thrown In-ho around the ringer. It gave him hope and love and an amazing partner. Before it pulled the rug beneath his feet into the trap doors of hell.His wife got severely sick, he was mountains into debt, and on top of it all – he got fired from his job. A job that he spent the better half of his life on, mind you. He had no way to pay for anything, not even to keep her alive for long.
So, now he was standing outside at a concerning time of night, waiting for... Something. He wasn't sure what. All he knows is that he got a weird card from a shady salesman, called a number, and got a location alongside a password. And that all of this might somehow lead to money.
It's a horrible idea to get in the van once it arrives. More than horrible, it's stupid. But his love, his wife, she needs him. She needs the money. He has to provide for her, for his family.
He drowns out all of the doubts that scream at him to run, and enters the vehicle. Gas hits him in the face
The year is no longer 2015.

Summary
Falling in love wasn't the hard part, hell, In-ho could live with that fact more comfortably than he'd like to admit. But falling in love was not the easiest part either, no, it just wasn't difficult. The easiest part was getting sick, letting that love consume him until he was unrecognizable.
He fought against that sickness, or, tried to, at least. Because it was just so easy to fall into, to never want to break away from.
Unfortunately, when the one whom In-ho's heart beats for vanishes, he feels like he might just suffocate.

Gi-hun rushes over to grab the container that the chickens are in and hurries to In-ho, out of the door. They tell everybody to hurry up and get out because the fire is spreading fast.
When they leave the chicken shop, they turn around to watch it burning down, flames taking it quickly.
In-ho grabs Gi-hun’s hand and looks over at him, then down at the container of baby chickens underneath his arm.
His eyes widen.
“Gi-hun.”
“What?” Gi-hun asks, out of breath and tired, looking over to In-ho and noticing his panic before starting to get concerned himself. He repeats, more urgently, “What?”
“There’s only three chickens there,” In-ho points at the container.
Shit.

He meets an interesting, familiar looking man along the way.

In-ho sighs, “Is it so bad that I want to make sure that you’re actually getting some kind of income from this place? God forbid I don’t want you to be poor,” He crosses his arms and walks a little more toward Gi-hun before pausing at one of the counters, leaning onto it, “so, will you make me the chicken or not?”
“Obviously I will,” Gi-hun says without skipping a beat but then looks back behind him to where In-ho is standing, “but you’ve really gotta stop coming here.”
“Or what?” In-ho asks, uncrossing his arms and walking forward until he’s next to Gi-hun at the sink. He shuts the water off and turns around to face into the kitchen, Gi-hun still facing toward the sink.
Gi-hun grumbles softly and turns the water back on, “one day I’m gonna say no to you.”
In-ho looks to his left at Gi-hun, “Really? Will you?”

OR, In-ho and Gi-hun are divorced but In-ho still buys chicken from Gi-hun's shop in order to feed the players at his game and also make sure his ex-husband isn't super poor.
