Summary
Of course, as soon as the word ‘focus’ has entered Deuce’s mind, the door closest to the front row opens rather loudly. A red-haired student slinks through with what passes for a sheepish grin on his face, if you could ignore the sparkle in his eye. He waves to the professor, who seems unfazed by his sudden appearance, sparing time only for a blithe remark on his tardiness before she continues with her spiel. Deuce is inclined to follow suit, but his attention is grabbed once again as the redhead scans the room, sucks his lower lip between his teeth, and angles for the front row.
As Deuce had previously noted, the lecture hall is crowded but not stuffed, with ample seating both down here in the front and up in the back. Indeed, only Deuce and the girl by the door are seated in the front row at all. Maybe staring right in the face of the professor at 9AM is a touch too vulnerable for most students Deuce’s age, not that he’d be the guy to tell you about what the ‘standard’ feelings of his demographic are or should be in any situation.
It defies reason, then, that the late arrival slides himself cleanly into the spot next to Deuce.

“Th-That’s—” Ann stammers, then groans. “I’m sorry, Haru-chan… I’m being a total jerk right now, aren’t I?”
“A teensy bit,” Haru admits, never one to mince words, but she doesn’t seem especially bothered by it. She picks up her mug—a honey rose latte it was called on the menu, Ann’s not usually a fan of pairing bitter flavours with espresso which is already so strong but Haru seems fond of it—and takes a graceful sip, dabbing at her upper lip after with a napkin. “But that’s fine. We all have our jerk days, and you’ve weathered out a few with me too. Is it anything you want to talk about?”
“I…” Ann chews the corner of her mouth, kind of hating herself. Haru is so busy these days with college. Sometimes even more so than Makoto, who at least has a lot to study and thus a lot of time to spend sitting around and doing independent tasks together.
Ann shouldn’t waste the morning talking about her problems, even if Haru used to be one of her closest confidants back in high school.

Summary
Having been the recipient of that (accordingly) rare touch leaves Takumi a bit wrongfooted, but at the same time, he misses it. Omokage… smells good, he’s realising. Maybe it would be more accurate to say that Omokage has such a powerful smell amidst all the others that he can actually focus on it… but Takumi feels as if it’s more than that. There’s something very familiar about it, almost comforting, like he feels at the end of the day when he sinks into his bedsheets at home, or… Karua’s arms.
The reminder of Karua makes Takumi shudder, suddenly overcome. He stares down at his hands—human for now—and shudders again. As he watches, his nails start to elongate and darken, as if to become claws again. This time Takumi’s able to halt the motion by clenching his fists, but seeing his body change so easily, obviously, and immediately before his own eyes makes an overwhelming sense of revulsion twist in his stomach.
“What happened to me?” is all Takumi can croak in light of all that.

“...Sorry,” Kamyuhn huffs when Nozomi doesn’t respond right away. She pads forward on socked feet and drops to sit, knees drawing in toward her chest. “I didn’t mean to startle you. Were you deep in thought?”
“Um…” Nozomi fidgets with a piece of wood that’s splintered off the deck. The building they’re in, like many others in the area, is old and worn down, only habitual because of the base restorations they’ve been able to complete. More ambitious projects will have to wait until peace is restored across Futurum, and that could take years, maybe even decades, for all of Nozomi’s attempts at being forward thinking.
Hah. Nozomi’s tangented though. Talk about being ‘deep in thought’.
“I guess you could say that. It just, occurred to me while I was sitting here…” Nozomi switches from messing with the deck to picking at a hangnail on her thumb. “It’s been… about a year since everything happened.”

Summary
Something about that makes Mukuro feel sick to her stomach. She staggers back one, two steps, then manages to regain her composure. Breathes in deeply. Upstairs Junko is wrestling Naegi into submission the way Mukuro was tasked with doing down here. It was supposed to be simple enough that even a failure like Mukuro couldn’t do it wrong. Instead her heart beats so violently she can feel it in the seats of her palms. She swallows past a dry throat.
“Some detective,” Mukuro chokes out, but Kirigiri shakes her head.
“I had a hunch. I’m surprised that it’s wrong.” Seemingly unaffected by almost a full twenty four hours of unconsciousness, Kirigiri uses a knuckle to brush her bangs from her eyes. She turns and sets her elbow against the desk. Her gaze is piercing. “I imagine you’ve been aiding her from the start. Haven’t you ever thought of doing different?”
“Everyone has ugly thoughts,” Mukuro responds.

Akihiko just holds Shinjiro tighter. Water pools on the floor, cold as it drips down his skin.
Shinjiro sighs. "What were you doin' out? I thought you turned in for the night."
"It was raining," Akihiko says into Shinjiro's shoulder, his voice shaking ever-so-slightly. He hopes that it isn't enough for Shinjiro to pick up on.
"So?" Shinjiro moves whatever is in the pot around. Akihiko can feel his shoulders shift against his chest. "It does that sometimes."
"It's nice to run in." It doesn't feel like a proper explanation for everything. But the words catch in his throat as thunder cuts through the quiet sound of something sizzling in oil.
