Tsukasa hears about the cranes when they go to the temple to pray. He holds Amane’s hand in his and stays by Mama’s side like a good boy, and listens to the grownups talk about folding cranes for wishes. He wonders if he folds a thousand like the legend says that maybe Amane might get better. If he gets better, they can play in the garden, and in the woods; if Amane gets better, Tsukasa won’t be so lonely.

Summary
A silence settled over the house: Suo cleaning up the meal he made his friend (and supposedly ate before Nirei was awake to witness it), his back to him as he moved with that effortless grace that betrayed a lifetime of practice; Nirei sipping his cooling chrysanthemum tea and watching Suo’s every move with an innocent, tender-hearted curiosity.
Perhaps his fever possessed Nirei to speak. Or maybe the warm homemade food gave him courage.
“Do you like dragons, Suo-san?”
After that night in the park, Nirei finds himself wondering what it means to help someone, to know them, to care for them.
