Mike thinks it all started the day the Byers moved into their house.
Having sold their house in Hawkins a year and a half prior and moved to California, when they came back, and the town got put in lockdown, they didn’t have a place to go.
Mike had kindly offered up their place during dinner.

The 18-month gap between s4 and s5 told from Mike's POV with minor other POV's as the story progresses. The gap has been lengthened to encapsulate more time passing. They start at 16, but by chapter 6 they're 17 1/2 with them turning 18 chapter 32/34.

In the months following the closure of the gate, Mike is still haunted by his experience at the Hawkins Laboratory Massacre, thoughts plagued by the blood and violence, and the guilt of not warning the scientists fast enough weighing heavy on his shoulders. All it takes is one little trigger for it all to become too much.
( TLDR - a fic exploring a bit of Mike’s trauma from the lab and witnessing Will’s possession and stuff and how it may have impacted him cause it was messed up and I don’t see it discussed enough. )
