Eddie barely ever heard that name anymore, except for an echo in his own head, and he went still, looking down at his phone and then replacing it by his ear.
“What— what about him?” Eddie asked, hoping he sounded less thrown off guard than he felt. Hoping he sounded less breathless through the phone than he did to his own ears.
“I got, um, an invite. To his wedding.”

Summary
After the incident with the FaceTime call on Christopher’s birthday, Buck really should have seen it coming.
Eddie was more than a little distraught after they hung up, tears in his eyes and hands shaking as he took the decorations down and tossed the cupcakes. Buck sat with him for a long time after he talked Tommy into leaving, unsure of what to say to make it better, almost certain he didn’t have the words necessary to help Eddie.
The next morning, Eddie acted as if the previous night hadn’t happened at all.
In the week that followed, he was always on the phone between calls, he heard him asking Chimney about how he took his leave when he went looking for Maddie, he saw Eddie and Hen having an intense conversation in the locker room.
He should have seen it coming, and he didn’t.--
Eddie goes back to Texas to bring his son home. Buck handles this well.

Buck keeps him everywhere. He’s smuggling him into every inch left vacant, because like this, he doesn’t lose him, won’t lose him. Like this, he gets to keep Eddie forever, even if it’s just the pieces and the memories attached. The reminder of him will haunt him and this apartment like a ghost. Because Buck can’t trap him in his apartment and force him to stay, he’d never ask that, couldn’t ask that, but he’s going to damn well do his best to salvage it in some form. He’s kidnapping Eddie’s shadow, no matter how much it hurts, and there’s no choice about it.
Eddie announces he’s leaving. Buck, naturally, begins a slow descent to madness.

“I hope you don’t plan on hitting me with that,” comes a voice from behind him and when he turns around, he drops the bat out of shock.
It hits the ground with a clank, and he hears two sets of footsteps rush around the corner from the kitchen and Eddie knows, then and there, that he’s truly fucked.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
Adriana cocks her eyebrow at Eddie as she walks out of the bathroom. “We’ve been worried about you,” she says, “you’re not returning either of our calls.”
