Summary
Susie stared at Noelle’s contact photo under the call time that she had never bothered to change. It was a selfie Noelle had taken at the Festival. She was in the foreground, arm fully extended as Susie leaned over to try to get in frame, although she was still cut off from the forehead up. Kris was tucked in the middle, head caught under Susie’s arm. Kris’ face was red and their ever present bangs were covering their eyes, but their mouth was slightly open like they were about to smile. Noelle’s eyes were squeezed shut in laughter, despite her being the one taking the photo. It was one of Susie’s favorite photos of the three of them. She hung up the phone.

Summary
Without realizing, Noelle’s eyes lit up a little. “Really? I’m so glad… I always thought it’d be so cool to learn music.” Her hands were fidgeting. “Back when we were kids, I actually really wanted to try playing the violin, but Mom always said I needed to focus on school… We could have played duets together, maybe– ohh, maybe that one song for violin and orchestra by Saint-Saëns, because there is actually an arrangement for piano, or–”
Noelle cut herself off before she could get too far into her ramble, but to her surprise, Kris was wearing a small smile.
“Which Saint-Saëns song?”

Summary
That was their train of thought until, after incessant begging, the younger kids finally dragged a particular deer outside of her home, pulling her by the hand and insisting she be on their team. She was giggling as they did so, somewhat nervously assuring them that she’ll help in any way she can.
It was only when she passed her gate, and locked eyes with Kris down the street – eyes that, unlike recently, were suddenly full of purpose, like a vulture selecting a singular rabbit to prey upon – that Noelle regretted going outside.--
Noelle and Kris struggle to eat, and also have a water balloon fight.

Summary
But, at this moment, it seemed as though Noelle had forgotten about all of that. There was no need to be good. Just to be happy. Kris finally dipped their brush back into the paint once more to continue. To be a child was to be imperfect, maybe. Perhaps they could find it in them to feel like a child still, if only for a few moments.
