Summary
“Peter.” The voice has become softer now. Charles’ hand remains a steady presence atop the mound of blankets.
He squeezes his eyes shut. Charles wants him to talk, but he can’t even do that anymore. Besides, what is there left to say? They made it perfectly clear that he’s not wanted here. The only reason he hasn’t been dumped on somebody else is because they can’t find anyone able to shoulder the burden.

“Bob. Would you like to come out of there now?”
“...No. No, I’m very much fine in here, thank you.” His voice came out soft. He had to lift his head out of his knees just so the words would be audible through the closet door.

Summary
For years, time is something Pietro's had plenty of, but now it’s running out. He'd give anything to go back, to just get a few more years—even a few more seconds. But time only moves forward. He's gotten older, his body's gotten weaker, and there's not much time left.
Pietro exhales. He'd known this moment was going to come eventually. He blinks away the tears that sting his eyes and swallows the burning lump in his throat.
"I'm glad," he whispers. "I'm glad it was you."
Kurt smiles sadly, and his tail coils around Pietro's thin wrist. "Me too."

Summary
Raven, Mystique—whatever she wanted to call herself—wasn’t a hero. She hadn’t been able to save any of them. Being a hero was Charles’s false dream, coined when they were playing pretend with the matching uniforms and training regimes and acting like they could actually make a difference in the world. That dream had died on a beach in Cuba a long time ago.
(or, the faces of her fellow mutants are burned into raven's mind)
