The fight of the Quirkless

Summary:

Bakugou Katsuki is quirkless. This has been a fact of his life since he was little, always being overshadowed by his best friend, Midoriya Izuku. He doesn't hold it against Izuku.
No, Izuku is his best friend, and he'll do anything he can to stand tall by his side, to no longer be the only thing holding Izuku back from being the greatest hero to ever live.
... And hell, maybe he can become the greatest hero too.

Chapter 1: Prologues? what?

Chapter Text

Bakugou Katsuki was four years old when his best friend got his Quirk.

Izuku stood, dazed and excited, staring at his palms as he focused for a moment to let off a small explosion in each one. He was bouncing in place and his tears were welling up like crazy, forcing Katsuki to sigh and headbutt him lightly in the shoulder.

Katsuki wasn’t very good at affection, but Izuku didn’t mind. Izuku would always follow him, no matter what. Even if Izuku had an amazing quirk and Katsuki was still waiting for his, Izuku let him lead.

When he was almost five, his mother took him to a quirk specialist to test for his quirk.

Both he and his mother were confused when the doctor slapped an x-ray of his foot onto the light bar, the man pointing at the pinky toe.

“Mrs. Bakugou? I’m sorry to say, but your son is quirkless.” He states. “You see, it’s very rare, but this genetic outlier- the second joint in the pinky toe- is the key to diagnosis. It tells us that he’s de-evolved. Everyone with a quirk- of those who have feet, at least- have no second or third joint in their pinky toes, as they are unnecessary to the structure of the foot.”

“I… I see, I guess. Is… there really nothing there? Not even fuckin’ Glycerin?”

“Even testing for you and your husband’s quirks came up negative. It appears that he will just go on without a quirk altogether. While it is a rare for a fifth-gen child to be born quirkless, there’s still about a 20% chance of anyone being born today to have no quirk at all. A shame, really- you and your husband’s quirks could have mixed into something spectacular, I’m sure.”

Katsuki wasn’t a very good at affection. Nobody ever said he wasn’t good at anger.

Without a care in the world, Katsuki slammed the chair he was sitting on down to the ground and rushed out of the room, screaming, “I’M ALREADY FUCKING SPECTACULAR WITHOUT A STUPID-ASS QUIRK! I’LL BE THE FIRST QUIRKLESS HERO, YOU ASSWIPES WATCH ME!”

While he was pissed, it wasn’t really worth it in the end. His mom let it go purely because of how stressed out and upset he had been, but warned him to never talk to people like that in a serious place like that again.

Katsuki fell asleep that night after asking his mom if she thought he could be a hero without an awesome quirk like Deku’s. She’d told him to shut the fuck up and sleep- but it was clear in her face that she just didn’t know how to answer him without pissing him off.

Instead of being pissed off, Bakugou Katsuki was, for the first time ever, sad and worried for what would happen to him in the future. He could only hope that one day, he’d be the first Quirkless Pro-Hero.
