Legends and Lies

Summary:

Every country, every region has its “lore”. Those mythical beings are known only to a certain culture thought to just be stories to keep children in line and to keep sacred places undisturbed. To those without the gift of sight, there is nothing odd about their neighbors. They are simply regular humans. But to those rare few (1 in 3 billion), the world is filled with monsters, magical creatures, and those very stories come to life. These creatures can remove their glamour at will, but usually only do so in private, as monsters such as these are to remain hidden in the mortal world or else risk the safety of other beings.
BTS was a seemingly ordinary K-POP group, filled with 7 regular, ungifted humans. They had millions of fans worldwide and were beloved by many. But underneath all those flashing lights was a big secret. They weren’t human. At least, most of them weren’t.
Watch as six of the seven members try to navigate fame and being under the spotlight while also trying to hide their mythological selves from their very innocent human bandmate.
Or basically, a story in which mythical beings exist around us but are hidden and only one BTS member has no idea.

Notes:

Hello! This is the first fanfiction I have ever shared with others, so I hope to get lots of feedback on how I can improve! If you are looking for romance, I hate to break it to you, but I most likely will not be including it in my story. I am working while also searching for internships so updates will be few and far between for a while. That being said, the more comments are given, the more likely I will update (simply because I can be really forgetful).
The plot will develop slowly. At first, I just want to introduce the characters and their species before we get into any of the fun stuff.
Borahae!

Chapter 1: Hungry Hyungs and Hiccups

Chapter Text

Every country, every region has its “lore”. Those mythical beings are known only to a certain culture thought to just be stories to keep children in line and to keep sacred places undisturbed. To those without the gift of sight, there is nothing odd about their neighbors. They are simply regular humans. But to those rare few (1 in 3 billion), the world is filled with monsters, magical creatures, and those very stories come to life. These creatures can remove their glamour at will, but usually only do so in private, as monsters such as these are to remain hidden in the mortal world or else risk the safety of other beings. After all, there are hunters out there.

BTS was a seemingly ordinary K-POP group, filled with 7 regular, ungifted humans. They had millions of fans worldwide and were beloved by many. But underneath all those flashing lights was a big secret. They weren’t human. At least, most of them weren’t.

Kim Taehyung. The one who everyone calls 4D, or claims he thinks in ways no others should is human. The one with insane visuals and talent in forming attachments to others is human. Those otherworldly qualities are simply just a part of his normal human self. It’s as plain as the scent he gives off - all his bandmates can smell it, sweet as honey and warm like clove with a subtle strength like eucalyptus.

It’s been especially hard for Min Yoongi, as Kim Taehyung smells just as delicious as the children he vowed to never eat. But boy, was Yoongi tempted.

“Hyung?” Taehyung asked. “Are you okay? You’ve been salivating all rehearsal. Are you dreaming about those lamb skewers Jin-Hyung promised to make for us when we got back?”

“I’m fine, I just need some space. I’m just really hungry and you reminding me doesn’t help. I wasn’t able to eat lunch today, either, because I was off working in the studio.”

“Hyung! You should have told me! Let’s take a break and grab a snack or something, okay? I’ll go grab something from the convenience store for us really quickly! Don’t miss me!”

Before Yoongi could even get a word in, Taehyung was already running off, taking his intoxicating smell with him. Yoongi took a big breath in relief. As a Haechi, there wasn’t much Yoongi could eat. Human children were permanently off the menu, especially since he grew up with humans. Besides, he was supposed to represent and uphold justice, and he didn’t feel it very just to eat a child. So a fire was really all Yoongi had left. He usually ate while Seokjin- Hyung cooked, eating the fire straight from the stove, and normally he would bring a lighter to work if he knew he was going to be at the company for a while, but he forgot it in his gym bag which the manager tool back home for him after dance practice. In short, he was starving.

“God, Tae. You must be a sadist or something. With the way your scent is torturing me it’s almost like you are trying to make me suffer on purpose,” Yoongi thought. . Maybe if he called Jin, he could convince him to let him cook with him again. But Yoongi didn’t want everyone else to wait longer than necessary to eat just because he kept eating the flame Jin-Hyung was trying to use. Though he was pretty sure the rest of the supernatural menagerie he lived with would understand, he didn’t think Tae would be as sympathetic. The boy was human after all and had no clue about mythical creatures or their needs. Deciding that just waiting for Taehyung to return with something that would actually satisfy his hunger would be a miracle that most likely wouldn’t happen, Yoongi decided to just work on the track until Tae came back.

Yoongi must have fallen asleep, because what felt like only a couple minutes later, Tae was charging back into the room, startling the poor Haechi awake.

“Hyung! You’ll never guess what they had at the convenience store! Marshmallows! You know, like in that dessert from the US, Smores? Well, I thought that we could make them ourselves! Here are the marshmallows and a lighter I grabbed from one of the staff. Oh! I forgot to buy the sweet cookies and chocolate for the Smores! I’m going to go get them. Hyung, I’ll be right back. Don’t eat all the marshmallows without me!”

Once again, Taehyung was out the door before Yoongi could even get a word in. Yoongi could cry. In his hand was the lighter. As soon as Yoongi made sure no one was around, he dropped his glamour and ate some of the fire. No, he didn’t just eat, he gobbled it. Yoongi couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. How did Tae, a normal human coincidentally bring the very food Yoongi could eat? It was the very miracle Yoongi swore wouldn’t happen. After he had taken the edge off of his hunger, Yoongi quickly put back up his glamour and opened the bag of Marshmallows, eating a few so as not to raise Tae’s suspicions. When Taehyung returned, chocolate, and sweet biscuits in tow, Yoongi had made a sizeable dent in the number of marshmallows left. Tae was only a little upset that Yoongi didn’t wait for him, but was placated when Yoongi’s quiet voice squeaked out a small and subtle “Thank you”. Tae would have been incredibly touched if it weren’t for the hiccup Yoongi let out right after, causing the two of them to burst into laughter.

“Maybe next time don’t eat so many so fast, Hyung!” Taehyung said between laughs.

Yoongi just nodded, hiccupping once more.
