Thrown Away Tin Soldiers

Summary:

"Soldiers, when committed to a task, can't compromise. It's unrelenting devotion to the standards of duty and courage, absolute loyalty to others, not letting the task go until it's been done."- John Keegan

Work Text:

Thousands of brothers
Dead on the battlefield
Blood shed for a war
That never seems to end
As the galaxy is drenched in metallic red

Thousands of brothers
Thrown away in a breath
Needed one second
Forgotten the next
Unwillingly chained and destroyed
So few escaped the void

Thousands of brothers
Conscripted then discarded
Gone as though with the wind
Not a soul spares a passing thought to them
Save those left behind
Saying their litany
As the voice grew dimmer
Until only one remained
From this discarded generation

Only the lone brother
Left to remember and carry on
Until his one last task has been done
