Dawn of the Second Blog (an apology remains)

Summary:

Sora starts up his own blog and immediately follows Riku's secret account through his followers list. Riku's mortified and now Sora has to figure out how to apologize.

Work Text:

He supposed the best place to start would be with a gift.

That would be easier than saying "I'm sorry the first thing I did upon getting an account was go through your followers."

Or "I'm sorry I instantly followed 'wayfromdusktildawn' without asking if it was 'actually' you so I could at least give you some plausible deniability."

Both would be better than "I'm sorry this is the way I found out about your tastes in pin-ups and R-rated gay European dramas and... animated GIFs."

"Yeah! Maybe you could get him a subscription to that gay streaming service he reblogs so much? I doubt he's got the guts to do it himself," Kairi's voice projected from the speakerphone.

"Kairiiiiii." She'd made the false assumption Sora would have the guts (or a credit card) himself, after all.

"Sorry, Sora. I've known about this account since the day he made it and none of this is new to me. That's what you get for ignoring social media for so long. Weirdo."

"Even if I was on social media, you know he was trying to keep all of that a secret from me specifically, right?"

"That's because both of you were denser than an actual black hole. Never mind that yours was so dense you didn't even realize your own feelings." He could picture Kairi rolling her eyes and pushing back her cuticles.

Sora felt the hurt of truth like the sting of a gay vampire's stupid, sexy fangs. (That'd been the subject of some of the GIFs, after all. Sora had never understood the appeal until he'd spotted one in particular on his timeline.)

"That's... that's... homophobic!"

"The only homophobe here was your own heart, Sora." Kairi sighed, out of exasperation or an attempt at being poetic or both. "And to think I thought had a chance in hell at it at one point. Yeesh."

"Riku was scared I was a homophobe, Kairi. So I really messed up here!"

"Calm down, Sora. It's just a reblog blog. And it's not even, like, explicit at that. Face it. You and your boyfriend are sheltered wimps."

"It's still N-S-F-W, though! And you're not his roommate! O-or his boyfriend!"

"Then there's probably some relevant information there for you, wouldn't you think?" Sora could sense the punchably smug duck face behind the other side of the line.

"Kairiiiiiii."

"Making your innocent ears too red, am I?"

(Kairi was one to talk, given how her roommate Larxene had apparently instantly done the same to her.)

"That's not it! He got up without me this morning! You know he'd never do that!" Sora insisted. Another glaring neon sign he should never have missed, in retrospect.

"All. Too. Well. Anyway, like I said, Riku is lame. And that's why you'll kiss and make up before dinner. Guaranteed."

Sora bit his lip. "Do you really think so?"

"Unfollow the blog if you really feel that bad, I guess. I'll talk to you when you're all blissful and lovesick again. Gotta go to life drawing class. ...don't get all shocked about that, too, B-T-W."

"Thanks, Kairi! I-I really appreciate the help." Sora pressed the big red button and proceeded immediately to another big red button labeled "unfollow", resisting the urge to do a search for "life drawing".

His anxieties soothed somewhat by the chat with Kairi, he texted Riku.

Sora:Sorry for following your secret side blog without permission. I unfollowed it. Watch out for Kairi, though.

He was pretty sure that would be enough and, sure enough, after a Riku-esque delay, all was well.

Riku:It's OK. Old secret-keeping habits die hard, I guess. There wasn't really anything that bad on there. Not much reason to use it anymore anyway. Maybe we should watch some of those movies together someday.

Not a minute later:

Riku:..also, what!? Does she even have an account? Is she following me? I didn't even tell Selphie about that one :/.

Sora winced. The last thing Riku probably needed was further mortification.

Sora:Nah, she just knows too much about me. As usual. See ya at lunch, babe.

Riku:<3

Sora:2! Just the 2. Of us :3.

Riku:Haha.

Just as Kairi had predicted. The Disney movies had taught him the conflict part wrong, too, after all. He would just have to learn to trust his bond as much as everybody else did.
