'Oh dear, oh my, oh no, oh no–'
Taeyong darted back and forth frantically, just barely keeping his precious charge in sight.
Of course, this situation wasn't completely his fault, but it definitely felt like it. He'd become so focused on the child, he'd forgotten to check on everything else! Thank goodness Mia was fast. Now, if he could just help her get to safety.
Taeyong yelped aloud and quickly Nudged the running woman along a side passage, immeasurably thankful for the powers that granted him mute to their pursuers, just as some crates fell across their original path. He rose higher above the buildings to navigate further ahead, never taking an eye off her. He dove down again to push a dumpster over behind Mia after she got through a narrow alley.
Taeyong could feel her tiring, her strength draining despite the adrenaline. It was more difficult now than it would have been before, he knew too well. He gently ran a hand over her shoulders, directing her through the streets as best he could. He'd picked a destination that he deemed safe, a small shelter on the other side of the river. It was farther than he'd be happy with, but it was on the other side of the shopping district, and there was hope that the people chasing them would fall behind.
It was so quick he'd almost missed it in his haste to Persuade a group of people to part for Mia. She'd set him down, kissed his forehead, and whirled away, running back the way she came. Taeyong was astounded. His only forewarning had been a flicker of intent before she was gone and Taeyong was caught between them. Did he take care of the child when doing so would leave Mia to whatever ill fate befell her? Leaving her to her own devices was what brought the whole thing on in the first place! Taeyong was the Guardian for her household, and he'd failed to watch over her.
In a split second decision, Taeyong prayed for Forgiveness and scooped up the child, becoming corporeal and tugging his hood up to hide his face as he waded through the crowded area. He Persuaded the child (Mark, Mia had named him; it was his second word after "Mum") to relax, to sleep in his arms and leave the worrying to Taeyong. As a Guardian Angel, Taeyong couldn't raise a human child on his own. The human world had become so inter-woven and connected that it just wasn't possible to simply pop in and out of existence anymore. He'd have to find a human or humans who would care for Mark where he couldn't.
