Seungmin shifts in his half-asleep state when he feels a set of paws crawling over him. Before he can even try to distinguish which pet is walking all over his body as if he’s not even laying there, a warm, wet tongue shoots out to lick his face.
With a quiet groan, he reluctantly opens his eyes and is met with the face of Daengmo only inches away from his own face. He sits up from his spot in bed, ruffling his already messy hair and huffing dramatically. “ He sent you, didn't he?” He asks as if the puppy is actually going to respond. “When he said he wanted to teach you tricks, this wasn’t what I had in mind.” Daengmo barks in response and Seungmin laughs softly, reaching out to pet his head. “Alright, let’s go.”
Seungmin finally climbs out of bed, sliding his house shoes on as Daengmo waits patiently by his feet. He looks down at the small golden retriever and immediately melts, cooing at how adorable he is.
As soon as Seungmin begins walking out of the room, Daengmo shoots out in front of him so he can get back to the kitchen first.
When Seungmin walks into the kitchen, Minho gasps in delight before squatting down to pet Daengmo. “Good boy, Daengmo! You’re getting good at this wake up your dad thing.” Minho coos, leaning forward to plant a kiss on the top of the dog’s head. Daengmo’s tail wags excitedly at the praise and Seungmin scoffs.
“You know, I’m gonna start teaching the cats how to wake you up.” Seungmin says as Minho stands up from showering Daengmo with attention to go back to making breakfast. Seungmin sees a bunch of cut fruit already sitting out on the table while Minho works steadily to finish making the eggs and pancakes.
“To do that you’d have to actually wake up earlier than me.” Minho teases. “Also, my babies would never disturb my sleep. They’re extremely loyal.”
Seungmin pouts, knowing that Minho is right, even though Minho can’t see it. He walks over to the older and wraps his arms around his waist, chin resting gently on his shoulder. “Was there a reason for sending him to disrupt my peaceful rest?”
“Mmm, not really. Just missed your face.” Minho smiles innocently and Seungmin rolls his eyes playfully.
“You’re disgustingly soft.”
“You love me.” Minho sings happily, turning around in Seungmin’s arms to face him.
Seungmin smiles softly, taking a moment to admire Minho’s features before speaking again. “I do, so so much.” Seungmin says, leaning forward to connect their lips in a gentle kiss. They only pull away from each other when they hear giggling and the faint sound of jumping on beds from down the hall.
“I think your kids are awake.” Minho jokes, tilting his head to motion down the hallway.
“Oh, so they’re my kids when they’re all rowdy but they’re your kids when they’re perfect angels?” Seungmin asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Exactly, they get their rowdiness from you and their perfection from me.” Minho smiles, placing another soft kiss on his husband’s lips. “Breakfast is almost ready.”
Seungmin glares harmlessly and releases Minho from his arms so he can finish cooking. “Mhmm, I’ll be right back.” Minho hums in understanding and Seungmin turns around to walk down the hall towards their kids’ room. As soon as Seungmin opens their door, they both drop onto the bed and pretend like they weren’t jumping around seconds ago. “What are you two up to?” Seungmin asks with a raised eyebrow and both of the twins burst into giggles again.
Their beds are both extremely messy, comforters flung halfway off the bed and pillows thrown on the floor. Dori is sitting in the corner room unbothered, staring at Seungmin as if he’s interested to see if the twins will get in trouble for making a mess.
“We just woke up.” Haneul says innocently, pretending to yawn to make his story more convincing.
“Mhmm, so I didn’t just hear you guys jumping on your beds in here?” Seungmin questions and the twins both look at each other before shaking their heads vigorously.
“Daddy, you always tell us not to jump on the bed, we would never break the rules.” Dasom says smoothly and Haneul immediately begins giggling again.
Seungmin crosses his arms over his chest in faux sternness, looking between the twins. “You two are unbelievable.” He says and walks over to Dasom’s bed slowly. He raises an eyebrow again, giving her another opportunity to tell the truth before leaning over and tickling her.
Dasom immediately bursts into laughter, trying to slap Seungmin’s hands away as Haneul just watches in amusement. “What is going on in here?” Minho asks from the door, his hands placed on his hips.
“Daddy is tickling Dasom because she was being a smartass!” Haneul says excitedly, making both Seungmin and Minho gasp. Both of their heads snap over to the six-year-old who’s completely unaware of the bad word that he just used.
“Where did you learn that word?” Seungmin asks, trying to stop the part of him that finds the situation funny from laughing.
“I heard Dada call you one last night.” Haneul admits and Minho sputters, caught off guard because he definitely said that after he put the kids to sleep. Seungmin jerks his head to glare at Minho who’s still standing by the door.
“How did you hear Dada call Daddy that if you were supposed to be sleeping?” He asks and Haneul’s eyes widen, looking over at Dasom.
“You’re in trouble.” Dasom giggles, pointing at Haneul.
Minho walks further into the room, moving to sit on Haneul’s bed that’s situated across from Dasom’s. “You are in very big trouble.” He says sternly. Haneul frowns slightly at his dad’s scolding and Seungmin almost butts in to say that it’s fine and he just shouldn't use that word again, but Minho suddenly breaks into a smile and starts tickling their son.
This time Haneul laughs loudly, squirming around to try to escape the tickling but Minho doesn’t let up. Shortly after, Seungmin begins to tickle Dasom again and the room is filled with laughter and giggles until everyone eventually settles down.
“Don’t say that word again, okay, buddy?” Minho asks, waiting for confirmation from Haneul.
The young boy nods his head quickly. “I promise, Dada.”
“Good. Now, let’s go eat before your food gets cold. Chocolate chip pancakes aren’t as good when they aren’t hot.” Dasom and Haneul both gasp excitedly and jump from their beds, racing each other into the kitchen.
“Don’t forget to wash your hands!” Seungmin calls after them and Minho smiles fondly at his husband. “What?” He asks, narrowing his gaze at the older.
“Nothing, your kids are just pretty funny.” Minho jokes and Seungmin rolls his eyes playfully, standing up from Dasom’s bed.
“You’re the one that taught Hannie a bad word.” Seungmin retorts and holds his hand out for Minho. The older stands up from Haneul’s bed and takes Seungmin’s hand, placing a gentle kiss on the back of it.
“He was gonna learn it eventually.” Minho shrugs and Seungmin snorts at his logic with a shake of his head, pulling Minho out of the twins’ room.
When they make it back to the kitchen, Dasom and Haneul are already sitting at the table patiently. Dasom has Soonie in her lap and Doongie sitting underneath her chair while Daengmo sits under the table, licking at Haneul’s hand.
“Hey, no pets at the table.” Seungmin reminds Dasom who just pouts in response and moves Soonie out of her lap. Soonie doesn’t go very far, though, deciding to just lay down by the feet of Dasom’s chair next to Doongie.
“Dada, why do we get extra special breakfast today?” Dasom asks as Seungmin begins putting some fruits on her plate as well as a couple of pancakes.
Minho hums, pretending to think about the question while he puts food on Haneul’s place. “Maybe it’s because I extra love you today!” Minho says with wide eyes that make both of the twins giggle.
“You extra love us every day but you only make us extra special breakfast on extra special days.” Haneul points out and begins eating his fruit.
“Well, what kind of extra special day do you think we’re having?” Seungmin asks, eyebrows raised in curiosity.
“Hmm, I think we’re getting another pet!” Dasom says, kicking her legs excitedly under the table.
Minho smiles fondly at her excitement. “We just got Daengmo, we’re not getting another pet any time soon.”
“Oooh, are we going to have a playdate with Uncle Channie and Eunha?” Haneul asks, looking back and forth between his dads.
“Nope! We are going somewhere special, though.” Minho says and the twins look at each other to see if either of them have any idea of what it could be. They both shrug and turn back to look at Minho, begging him to tell them what they’re doing today. “Hmm, how about you ask Daddy what we’re doing today? It was his idea.” Minho sings, motioning at Seungmin.
Dasom and Haneul turn their attention to Seungmin and begin begging him for answers like they did with Minho. “Fine, fine. I guess I can tell you the secret.” Seungmin eventually gives in, leaning in like he was going to tell them some top secret information. The twins mirror his action, hovering over their food to lean in as well. “We’re going to go to the aquarium.” Seungmin whispers.
“The aquarium?!” Haneul and Dasom yell excitedly, both dancing in their seats excitedly.
Minho laughs quietly, picking up a strawberry from his plate and popping it into his mouth. “But you have to finish your extra special breakfast first.”
That’s all it takes for Dasom and Haneul to begin scarfing down their breakfast, Seungmin chiming in to tell them to eat slowly and be careful. They only slow down for about two bites before going back to eating very enthusiastically and trying to talk about how excited they are with their mouths full.
As soon as they finish eating, they hop out of their chairs and pick up their plates to take them to the kitchen. “We can take the dishes!” Dasom says happily, holding her hand out for Minho’s plate while Haneul gets Seungmin’s.
“Oh my goodness, thank you so much!” Seungmin smiles as they go to the kitchen together to put the dishes away.
“Me first!” They can hear Haneul say, probably trying to get on the step stool in front of the sink to drop his dishes in before Dasom.
“My kids are really the best.” Minho sighs happily and Seungmin hits his shoulder playfully. “Hey! You don’t have to be so jealous of my angel children.” Minho says playfully.
Seungmin just laughs quietly and leans over to peck Minho’s lips softly. Dasom and Haneul run back over, standing between Minho and Seungmin’s chairs. “Are we gonna take a bath first?”
“How about you guys go pick out what you want to wear today and then we can have bath time?” Seungmin asks and the twins both nod excitedly before racing off to their room. “And you go get ready for the aquarium, I’ll take care of the dishes.” He says to Minho, leaning in for one last peck.
“You don’t want any help?” Minho asks, standing up from his chair.
“I got it, you already cooked so I’ll take care of the cleaning.” Seungmin smiles sweetly and stands up as well, shooing his husband out of the room.
After Minho is sent away to get ready for the day, Seungmin begins doing the dishes. They didn’t really use a lot of dishes for breakfast today so it doesn’t take too long at all to wash all of them and get them situated on the drying rack before heading back to the bedroom.
Minho hums happily when Seungmin walks in, his outfit for the day laid on the bed that he must’ve made up while Seungmin was cleaning. “Already done?”
“Mhmm, there weren’t too many dishes.” Seungmin smiles and walks over to their closet to pick out his own clothes for the day. While he’s deciding on what shirt he should wear, he feels a pair of arms wrap tightly around his waist as he’s pulled into his husband’s chest. Seungmin laughs quietly at the tight embrace, relaxing into Minho’s touch and closing his eyes for a moment.
“I love you so much.” Minho whispers before placing a soft kiss on Seungmin’s neck. “You’re perfect and I love you so so much. I’m so glad we have this perfect family and this perfect apartment and I get to wake up every morning to my perfect husband right next to me.”
Seungmin tries (but fails) to stop himself from flushing at his words. He wiggles around in Minho’s arms until he’s finally turned around to face his smiling face. “I love you, too. And I love our perfect family, I can’t imagine my life without any of you in it.”
Minho’s smile somehow gets even wider and he leans forward to connect their lips in a slow, gentle kiss.
Six years. That’s how long they’ve been married, and every kiss still feels just like their first. The same overwhelming amount of love and passion. The same eruption of butterflies deep in Seungmin’s stomach. The same Seungmin and Minho that love each other more than anything, only now they have even more love to give to each other.
“Daddy! Dada! We’re ready for bath time!” They pull away from the kiss, both laughing softly as they hear Haneul shout from down the hall.
“I’ll get his water ready.” Minho offers and drops his arms from Seungmin’s waist. “I’ll even do Dasom’s hair today because I extra love you.” Minho coos obnoxiously, booping Seungmin’s nose before walking out of their closet yelling excitedly about how it’s bath time.
And maybe Seungmin extra loves him too.
