Work Text:

Hoseok's day had been nothing short of exhausting. Thursdays were always his busiest— two back to back lectures in the morning, then a lunch break a couple hours long, followed by dance practice at the campus studio which ran late into the evening. He luckily finished a good chunk of work for one of his classes during his lunch in the library, and the other lecture was weekly, which gave him plenty of time to complete the coursework. With those out of his mind, he gave all 110% of himself to the studio: practicing choreo, teaching and helping some of the stragglers in the group, and preparing his unit for the showcase in two weeks. He wasn’t the only senior available to help, Jimin and Jungkook being a massive part of the reason he wasn’t entirely dead right now, but he still couldn’t help but feel like all the life in him had dissipated in those hours. Thus, Thursdays were pretty packed, especially this Thursday.

1809# , Hoseok punched into the keypad. As soon as it clicked, he swung the door open with little hesitation nor regard and trudged over to the couch, which thankfully was only a little ways away. He flopped down face first and let any energy he had left melt off of him. He felt boneless, and not in that desirable way that people described his dancing as. He could feel the exhaustion from the past hours catching up to him, and he felt helpless, like he couldn’t control his limbs any more for the rest of tonight.

“Seok-ah?” A voice called out from the kitchen. He could only grumble in response, and he kept his eyes shut. He wouldn’t be able to see who it was regardless as his face was stuffed in the pillow, but seeing whom the voice belonged to was unnecessary; the familiarity of his roommates’ voice was something he’d grown accustomed to months ago.

After a few moments, or maybe minutes, Hoseok heard footsteps getting closer, as they moved towards him from the kitchen. He could even make out a quiet thud of something, two somethings, being placed on the coffee table after the steps came to a stop.

“Tired, Seok-ah?”

Hoseok made a noise he could only hope sounded like an ‘mhm’ with the way his voice was muffled by the couch.

“Wanna cancel movie night tonight? I don’t mind.”

Shit, Hoseok’s thoughts flashed.

It’s not that he forgot; he was just so tired it was like his mind had numbed. Hoseok had remembered movie night fleetingly during lunch, but he left it at that. The thing was that these movie nights were their prime chances to see and spend time with one another. Despite being roommates, their schedules conflicted so much that they only really saw each other on Thursdays and occasionally Sundays, the days Yoongi had work off.

When Hoseok finally lifted his head just enough to turn it, he faced Yoongi looking down at him with enough fondness to match Hoseok's exhaustion. His tiny hyung, as he loved to tease, his roommate, and, his quite recently discovered crush, which was apparently mutual, as Jungkook had accidentally let slip about a week ago. Behind the standing man, Hoseok spotted two ceramic mugs Yoongi had just set down.

“No hyung it’s okay, we can watch.” Hoseok sat up and lazily rubbed his eyes, trying to adjust to the room’s brightness once again. The elder gave a slight nod, and picked up one of the mugs to hand to Hoseok. Peering in, he realized it was peppermint tea, his favorite. Sometimes Hoseok believed his hyung was far too kind to him. Sometimes Hoseok believed he could never deserve someone as good, as kind, as warm as Yoongi. But today he let himself be grateful, let himself bask in that warmth, and sipped the tea.

“It’s your turn to pick hyung,” Hoseok whispered. The mug was carefully cradled in his lap, and Hoseok leaned to rest his head on Yoongi's shoulder. (There was distance between the two of them to begin with so there wasn’t a terrible strain in the younger yet taller’s neck. And as much as he loved to mock his hyung, the difference was barely there.) Yoongi flipped through Netflix with the smaller remote, before selecting something and pressing play. He threw the remote aside, even if the volume was just barely loud enough to be audible. It seemed as though they both knew today would be one of those days to bask in each other’s silence rather than to bask in the movie itself.

It didn’t take long for Hoseok’s eyes to slowly begin to close. He finished the tea Yoongi had made him and set it back on the table. Leaning back onto Yoongi’s shoulder, he tried to pay attention to what was happening for about five minutes before promptly giving up.

Yoongi's right hand was holding his own mug, but the left one sat free on his lap. Hoseok, without much thought at all, (blame the exhaustion or whatever he might,) reached out and took Yoongi’s hand, and began to literally play with his fingers. It was an old habit he’s had since he was young, bending his dad’s fingers this way and that. He commonly did it with his close friends whom displaying physical affection with was a norm, like Taehyung and Jimin, but this was his first time doing so with Yoongi— not like Hoseok realized nor remembered that at this moment. Most likely it was just a subconscious habit of his. Or it was the result of the moment of hesitation between intertwining their fingers. Either way, Hoseok was far too focused on Yoongi's objectively attractive, large, and sturdy, yet subjectively soft hands to notice the heat which rose to the elder’s cheeks.

Despite the mutual crush, this was the closest thing the two of them had made to an advancement in their relationship-- though, to be fair, Hoseok wasn’t aware that Yoongi also knew that the crush was in fact mutual.

They went like that for- who knows how long. Yoongi lost track of time as soon as a delirious Hoseok began playing with his hands. Hoseok's sense of time was out of the picture as soon as he face planted into the couch. All Yoongi knew was that at some point, he really needed to pee. He himself began to drift off to the soft voices of the television and, unknowingly, the steady breathing of his roommate asleep on his shoulder. Yet soon the ache became overwhelming, so he tapped Hoseok in quick succession. When no results occurred, Yoongi leaned forward, set down his mug, and gently moved the younger so that he leaned in the opposite direction, cradling and laying Hoseok’s head on the armrest. Luckily, Hoseok adjusted himself while still in his accidental slumber. Yoongi knew he deserved it after today, remembering coming home at around 1am the night before and seeing light coming from the cracks of Hoseok's door briefly. After Yoongi closed the front door, he overheard some scrambling from his roommate’s room and watched the light go out through the cracks of his door, but Yoongi didn’t doubt that he continued to work after that as well. Just another thing to love about the young man who moved in with him earlier this semester. Right before walking away, Yoongi grabbed the lightweight blanket which the pair of them unspokenly kept draped over the couch and carefully placed it over Hoseok's body, which he had curled in on himself.

After using the bathroom and moving their mugs to the kitchen sink, Yoongi stood at the foot of the coffee table contemplating what to do. His phone read 10:57. Finally, he walked over to Hoseok and firstly swept the hair which had fallen into his eyes aside. The man before him was already snoring softly. The kid was so exhausted, going all out on a Thursday with only one more class left for the day after. Yoongi crouched down and tapped softly on Hoseok’s knee, before grabbing it and shaking him only slightly to wake him up.

“Jag—“ Yoongi cleared his throat, stopping himself from saying the term of endearment at the last second. Close call, he thought to himself. “Hobah, let’s get you to bed alright?”

Hoseok only just cracks his eyes open at the sound of his roommate's voice, pulling him out of the slumber he never realized he fell into. He sits up slowly, tugging the blanket around him closer.

“Gotta brush my teeth,” he mumbled and started to stand, but stumbled as a wave of dizziness washed over him. Luckily Yoongi was there for him to grab, catching a majority of Hoseok’s weight. Yoongi walked him over to the bathroom and watched as he lazily brushed his teeth.

“Did you wash up at the studio?”

Hoseok nodded, his eyes halfway between open and closed. He finished quickly and stumbled into his bedroom, Yoongi close behind. The dancer was already dressed in comfortable clothes, letting him plop into bed without feeling disgusting.

He rolled around in his yellow Ikea sheets, trying to situate himself comfortably with minimal effort. Yoongi chuckled softly, just observing for the time being. Eventually, Hoseok realized he had to get under the sheets, which required moving them and himself, but he did manage to do so, somehow. Yoongi finally stepped into the familiar room and crouched down, a safe distance away from Hoseok, but level with his face. Hoseok would’ve been staring back at him, had his eyes been open, but they continued to flutter as though he was fighting to stay awake for as many moments as he could grab for now.

“I’m sorry about movie night hyung,” he breathed. Even in his essentially asleep state he sounded genuine-- another thing about Hoseok, he wore his heart on his sleeve and lied approximately once in a blue moon; it was difficult for him to be anything but genuine.

“It's okay Hobah, get some rest, your week is almost done,” Yoongi smiled at him, a small one, hard to see even if Hoseok's eyes had been open. Alas though, Hoseok's breath was quickly evening out, and by the time Yoongi stood up straight, he was sure the man was fast asleep already. Yoongi had to hold in the breath he was about to huff, not with anything but affection for the younger.

He crossed the small distance from where he was to the bed frame, and only crouched enough so he was right above Hoseok's head. It was like an instinct, and weirdly enough, Yoongi got a sense of deja vu of sorts from the action, but he bent the rest of the way down and lightly placed his lips onto Hoseok's hair. Yoongi could have sworn he could snap his fingers in front of the dancer and he wouldn’t have awoken, but Yoongi was careful anyways. He brushed a little bit of hair out of the man's face again, but the action was fruitless as it continued to fall back anyways. Eventually Yoongi resigned and walked away.

“There's always next week, baby,” Yoongi said, a delicate grin now adorning his face, as he grabbed the doorknob, pulling the door closed slowly. “Goodnight Hobah.”

Yoongi missed the little quirk in Hoseok's lips right before he left.
