Phinx the Village Idiot

Summary:

Skeleton Key has been dating Uvogin for sometime, this is a simple and genuine reality. Meeting his friends is still an adventure and it seems that Phinx can't shut his mouth when he probably should.

Work Text:

At this point, I had met most of those that Uvogin worked with. As was to be expected, there was a variety of outcomes of the meetings. Uvogin had managed to call how most of the meetings would go, something that had annoyed me quite a bit. Sure, I managed to surprise him with how I handled some of those, but with each meeting, Uvogin got better and better at what expecting my moves.

Thus when this blonde douchebag opened his mouth, I looked at Uvogin to see if this was the expectation. Phinx had been described to me as casual. He was supposed to be a man that ran his mouth but did back off shit rather quickly. Bold but one of the Troupe members that would be the best at picking up cues.

It seemed that Phinx had decided all my cues didn’t matter.

When we met, he took my extended hand in his own, his grasp rather loose.

“Damn, you’re different than what I expected.” His voice was easy, his eyes took me in and then looked back up at Uvogin.

This is when I offered the same look toward Uvogin, Nobunaga stood just a bit off, his lips twitched a bit into a smirk.

“Oh, what do you mean by that?” I had to ask, see what pit this dick dug for himself.

“Nothing bad! You’re just bigger than some of the girls I’ve seen attach to Uvo before.” Nobunaga’s sharp exhale that had to have been a stifled laugh caught my ear for only a moment. My shoulders tensed as my eyes locked onto Phinx. With a single sentence, the man had gotten too much wrong.

The way Uvogin was tilted made it seem like he was looking at me, scanning me for a moment to see my next move. But I wouldn’t look at him.

Phinx with all his intelligence, did manage to notice something was off.

He waved a hand.

“Hey! That’s not an insult! I’ve been telling the goliath to go for bigger ladies for ages. Even you’re still on the small size for him. I don’t know how you both manage.” The grave was endlessly getting deeper. My head cocks slightly to the side.

“Manage what, Phinx?” My voice sounded sharp in my own head and with the way he was now looking back and forth between Uvogin and I, I could guess where he was going.

“Yeah, Phinx! Manage what?” Nobunaga was actively laughing at this point, his heavy voice suddenly warmed with his amusement.

“… No. I have made a mistake.” Phinx spoke after some time, his eyes narrowed just a bit as he tilted into a more guarded stance.

“Say it, Phinx, you’ve already got us this far. It’s about sex right?” I push him, eyes dark as I keep track of him. No one in the room points out the flickering of my Nen. Uvogin’s hand is so warm on my shoulder as he drug me sideways into his side.

“Come on, Phinx, don’t be a pussy now.” Uvogin’s voice is far too relaxed, with a glance up, I knew exactly what he was thinking.

“I just don’t see how you aren’t worried about being able to walk the next day.” Phinx said it in a rush, his eyes flashed to mine. Uvogin’s shoulders shook with his own sudden and intense laughter. I broke away from Uvogin’s side easily as he lost his grip to his laughter.

I strode right up to Phinx, my Nen whipping around me likely with my own frustration. His own came up defensively, watching me openly. I smiled serenely after a deep breath, bringing my Nen back to center.

“I’m not mad, Phinx, it just really isn’t your fucking business. But clearly you think it is.” His hands were up in a partial surrender. Spiders didn’t go against Spiders and while I wasn’t one, picking a fight with me would cause some tension for a bit. The gamble wasn’t necessary for either of us.

“Do you want to tell him?” I ask Uvogin who only grins so widely at me.

“I know you like to keep our secrets, baby.” His voice was sugared, his eyes so warm and focused on me. His tongue peeked between his teeth, smug as ever as he left it in my hands to decide the next move. Uvogin didn’t have a lick of shame in him, a fact that we both had to discuss early on. My need for privacy had been an early issue, one that Nobunaga had been forced into playing a kind of middle man for me and Uvogin after he blabbed too much to him in front of me.

“Skeleton, we can drop it.” Phinx cut in, his frown clear at day.

“Nah, you want to know. I won’t give you the nitty gritty that you so clearly want, but, hey buddy.” I approach even closer, my own hands up in placation. Then my hand came down in a mockingly friendly slap right between his shoulder blades. My use of Nen did nothing but make his body jerk a bit.

“I’m not the one that needs to worry about being too sore to walk in the morning.” My voice is calm and low. Uvogin’s wolf whistle was loud as ever as all three men were left behind me as I headed in.

None of them made a clear comment on the flush of my face if any of them saw me. Though with a single glance back, Uvogin’s heavy gaze and too proud grin as he spoke far too loudly with Phinx before turning to follow me, was enough.

I smirked at the mix of Nobunaga’s half flushed face and Phinx’s gaping mouth, and left the door open behind me for the rest to follow us inside.

Uvogin’s hands found my waist as soon as we were both inside, him neatly lifting me up for us to be face to face.

“I love it when you’re so blunt, baby.” His voice is smooth as ever, his nose skimmed at my temple.

“And I’d love for your friends not to be so nosy.” I raised a hand and pushed his face sideways, away from my own. “But that was pretty funny.” My smile softened the words. He kissed my fingertips before I squirmed and was set down.

“So four plates for tonight, make sure Nobu hurries up and comes help me.”

They weren’t perfect. The Troupe had so little secrets between them all. But it was an odd bunch that I had learned to counter and care for. So, with every meeting, and the surprises that Uvo couldn’t fathom, I had come to enjoy myself.
