Work Text:
Yosano has one rule when it comes to her office.
A rule that she ensured to be made quite clear within the ADA is that no one is to ever walk into her office without knocking. Closed door or not.
Given the nature of her voice—nobody in the agency dared to question the reasoning behind why. It’s best not to get on Yosano’s bad side.
Kunikida tried to question it but just one look from Yosano was all it took for the man to shrink into himself and murmur a small apology.
It’s a rule that everyone in the agency follows and respects.
Well—
Yosano’s fingers stop momentarily on the keyboard when she hears the door to her office slowly creak open.
—Everyone except for Dazai.
The first time he ignored Yosano’s rule—she yelled at him and hauled him out of her office within a blink of an eye. That should have done the job.
However, Yosano finds Dazai walking into her office and completely ignoring her warning the next day, earning him another set of yelling and him being kicked out.
It went on for weeks until, eventually, Yosano just gave up and decided to pay no mind whenever Dazai decided to walk in without knocking.
And now—
Dazai is quiet when he locks the door behind him and makes his way to the couch that’s situated against the wall in Yosano’s office, belly-flopping onto the cushion and stuffing his face into a pillow, letting out a frustrated groan.
That catches Yosano’s attention, narrowing her eyes towards the motionless body that has made itself comfortable on her couch, “…You good?”
It’s either Dazai didn’t hear her or he’s deliberately ignoring her because she doesn’t get an answer, causing her to pull her brows down slightly with concern.
“Dazai?”
“Yeah, I—” Dazai’s voice is muffled by the pillow, seemingly unwilling to move out of the position he’s in right now, “I just need a minute.”
Yosano frowns but, she doesn't say anything. She wordlessly waits and gives Dazai some time to gather what he wants to say, giving him an encouraging hum that she's listening.
"..." Dazai shuffles a bit but it’s barely anything and Yosano watches his body move with a heavy sigh, “There’s been an influx of cases recently.”
Right. Yosano has heard of the recent increase of unsolved crimes that has crawled its way into Yokohama—crimes that have been specifically requested for the agency to solve.
Yosano hums and relaxes her hands to lay them on the desk, watching Dazai with intent, “I’m aware of that.”
Another sigh can be heard from him and he lifts his head to rest his chin on top of the pillow, staring straight ahead at the wall instead of looking at Yosano, “...And I’ve been put to work on all of them.”
Yosano’s frown deepens because—
That’s a considerable amount of cases to work on in such a short time. She can understand how that can start to feel overwhelming. Even for a guy like Dazai.
“And,” Dazai continues, causing Yosano to raise her brows, “I know I’m supposed to be able to do them because I’m Dazai Osamu and everyone relies on me to tell them what to do but—” he pauses and closes his mouth as if he regrets saying that out loud as he bites onto his lower lip with furrowed brows.
Another beat of silence until Dazai turns his head back into the pillow and lets his defeated chuckle get muffled, “Sorry, forget what I said. I know they need me, I just…” there’s a breath—long and heavy, filled with so much weight that even Yosano can feel the impact of it, “…I need a minute.”
There is a sharp constricting feeling in her chest when Yosano hears just how…humourless and small Dazai’s voice sounds.
It’s not every day that she gets to see him like…
Like this. Maybe everyone else can turn a blind eye away from Dazai’s behaviour and whatever he’s saying and label it as another act for his ongoing show.
But not her. She’s still a doctor—a doctor who isn’t oblivious to Dazai’s internal suffering. A doctor who can only do so much because, at the end of the day, it’s up to Dazai to decide if he wants to accept the help or not.
At first, it was hard. Dazai is a book that’s sealed tight with a lock that’s been purposely hidden six feet underground with no intention of ever retrieving it.
That is until Yosano’s relationship with Dazai sort of…developed unexpectedly. Something beyond just physical relations. What was supposed to only be a small fling between them as a way to relieve work stress and the tension settled between them turned into whatever they have now.
With Dazai gradually giving Yosano access to the lock to open that book.
With Yosano becoming more concerned for Dazai’s well-being.
With Dazai going from pushing her away whenever the topic of anything related to him came up to Dazai now casually sometimes bringing up whatever’s on his mind.
Yosano wouldn’t say she doesn’t like where their relationship is heading. It’s nice. It’s comforting to know that you have someone there that you know you can go to for almost anything.
It’s not something either of them is particularly used to but…they’re learning. Together.
And right now—Yosano would be stupid to ignore the signs that are shining in bright neon lights in front of her.
Dazai may act like he can handle anything and everything everyone throws at him. But she knows even a man like him has a limit, and just by looking at him…
Yosano can assume with high certainty that Dazai is nearly at the breaking point and nobody would be able to know how to handle it when that happens.
Leaning into her chair with a sigh, Yosano swallows and folds her hands into her lap and gives Dazai’s body a contemplative stare.
She knows the agency relies on Dazai just as much as humans rely on oxygen to live. It’s why, despite his antics that he manages to pull out of his sleeves to piss off Kunikida and cause problems, he’s still working here.
He’s needed and everyone—including Dazai—knows that but…
It’s not fair for him. Nobody in the agency gets to see what happens on his bad days. Nobody in the agency is there to witness the aftermath of nearly forcing him to do more than anyone ever could. To rely on him like that.
They’re not there when Dazai’s walls are broken down and he’s bare to show that it’s not always all smiles and jokes with a sprinkle of obnoxious flirting attempts.
Nobody except for Yosano is there to bear witness to it all and it sometimes gets her frustrated when Dazai continues the charade of being fine.
And it’s because of that; Yosano’s plans for the rest of the day have changed into something entirely different.
“…You need more than just a minute, Dazai.”
Dazai makes a small, dismissive noise at the back of his throat and sluggishly brings up one hand to wave off whatever Yosano said, “I’m okay, I don’t—”
“Dazai,” Yosano cuts Dazai off and shakes her head as she logs off of her computer and takes out her purse with her car keys in it, ready to sign off for the day, “you can take a break once in a while, you know?”
“...I can’t,” Dazai mumbles weakly and Yosano rolls her eyes as she straightens from her chair and walks over to the couch, standing beside Dazai’s body.
“Yes, you can now—” Yosano crosses her arms in an expectant gesture and tilts her head, “get up.”
Slowly and seemingly confused, Dazai lifts his head to look at Yosano with a frown, mumbling because of how difficult it feels to move his lips right now, “For?”
Yosano’s gaze softens and her shoulders ease up, “For us to get out of here.”
Both of Dazai’s eyebrows pull down into bewilderment and he looks dumbfounded, “What?”
And, again, Yosano rolls her eyes and leans down to nudge Dazai to get up—ignoring the whine of protest from him that he needs to move—and huffs out a breath, “Your shift is going to end early today.”
Now, Dazai’s eyes harden and he’s protesting for a different reason, “But I can’t. I still have to figure out that—”
“And I’m sure Ranpo and the others would do just fine without you there for a day,” Yosano cuts him off, again, and continues to try to get Dazai to get up, tilting her head towards the exit of her office, “you can’t function properly anyway when you’re like this.”
That seems to garner a half-grin from Dazai, notably empty, as he slowly moves to sit up from his lying position and looks at Yosano with a tilt to his head, “I can, actually. You haven’t seen me in the mafia days, Yosano.”
Which she knows isn't wrong about that statement. She knows what that man is capable of but...this isn’t the mafia.
Yosano merely hums as she leans back and raises an anticipatory brow, waiting for Dazai to get off the couch and comply, “And you’re a different person now, Dazai.”
Immediately, Dazai makes a sullen face and looks at her like she said something wrong but—
Yosano has heard stories from multiple people of how ruthless Dazai was in the Port Mafia. How much of a demon he was and how much fear he instilled into almost everyone there. (Keyword being almost because there were a few people that never felt horror around his presence.)
But when Yosano looks at the kind of person Dazai is now; he’s not the same as he was before.
There’s still a small puddle of the mafia executive in him, flowing through his veins and that side tends to show sometimes. Yosano isn’t surprised though—things like that tend to stick after a while.
Because, after all, she too was under the influence of Mori.
And that...that’s something Yosano finds herself still struggling to cope with sometimes.
But Dazai is different. Even if it’s for a show when he’s around the other agency members—Yosano can recognize it.
She can see the gradual light growing in Dazai’s eyes ever since he first walked through the agency’s doors. Yosano notices the small, genuine smiles Dazai gives to Atsushi and the brightness in his voice when he talks to Kenji.
But she sees the difference the most when it’s just the two of them. Either in her office during breaks or at night under the sheets, as they bask in the afterglow of ecstasy; Dazai isn’t the ruthless machine that he was years ago.
He needs breaks. He needs sleep. He needs nutrients to keep him alive like any other human does now and that…
That has Yosano smiling internally at how proud she is for that progress.
Dazai looks at her with doubt of the entire situation, but after another few minutes of convincing and staring at each other with narrowed eyes, Dazai agrees, though hesitant, and follows her out of her office.
Kunikida moves his head when he sees something travel along his peripheral and initially ignores it until he catches a glimpse of wavy brown hair and his head whips to watch Yosano and Dazai walking out of the agency.
“Wh—Hey! Where do you think you’re—”
Yosano moves her head sharply to look at Kunikida with a threatening look, one that has the man clamping his mouth shut and sagging his shoulders in defeat.
Satisfied with everyone else not bothering to question her leading Dazai out of the office, Yosano smiles and walks out the door with a wink directed towards Ranpo—a gesture that Ranpo immediately understands as he nods with a half-smile and continues to chew on his cherry flavoured lollipop.
Getting Dazai to her car was a challenge considering his movements were stagnant like Dazai was on the brink of collapsing if he had to walk any further but—Yosano manages.
Dazai still has little to no idea where Yosano is thinking of taking them. Not until he notices that they passed the area where he lives and he looks outside with a confused look on his face.
“You’re not taking me home?”
Yosano snorts as she takes a left turn and presses on the gas with a little more pressure, “You got nothing at your place,” Yosano answers with a quirk of her lips, eyes focused as she drives with skill.
Dazai turns his head to look ahead and watches as more buildings pass by, “Then where…” Dazai’s voice ebbs away when he notices another street that’s quite familiar with a tall building coming up.
“Oh.”
Parking her car in the lot, Yosano helps Dazai get into the building and, here, she takes his hand and gently squeezes it, knowing that nobody else from the agency will see. And she knows that gesture is appreciated because she feels a light squeeze back.
It’s not that they don’t think anyone from the agency knows per se…it’s just…they rather not shove it down everyone’s throat.
They rather exchange simple, intimate touches in the privacy of their bubble.
Yosano’s apartment is at the very top—which Yosano enjoys because it gives her a beautiful view of the city. Especially when there’s a sunset.
Something that Dazai also appreciates because, well, it gives a nice view when they have sex on the window.
Once the door opens, Dazai is instantly hit with the smell of roses and vanilla, and at some deeper level that he tries to ignore—the smell of what home should smell like.
Kicking off his shoes, Dazai finds the nearest couch and flops onto it like he did in Yosano’s office, and his brain feels like it’s been deep-fried.
Dazai can hear Yosano’s footsteps—light and carried with grace—as she walks over to where he’s spread on her couch and he can smell her scent, something that he often finds himself getting dizzy over when she leans down to press her lips into his mop of hair, mumbling, “I’ll make you something to eat.”
Dazai makes a whine at the back of his throat, “M’not hungry.”
Yosano chuckles with a sigh and turns on her heels to go to her kitchen and pull out some leftovers from last night’s dinner to pop into the microwave, “Don’t care. You need food.”
Because if there’s one thing that she’s learned about Dazai from the very first time she has met him—the man barely eats.
Dazai doesn’t get out any words of protest, probably too tired to even try. The apartment falls silent—save for the sound of the microwave heating up the food—but it’s a comfortable kind of silence.
The kind that as you enjoy the presence of the other person with you in the same room and both of you know that you don’t have to utter a single word—just being there is enough for them.
It’s something that they both learned to grow and appreciate as they started to spend more time together.
Once the food is thoroughly heated up, Yosano dishes it out just the right amount that she knows Dazai will eat and places it on the dining table.
“You should eat it while it’s still warm,” Yosano mutters as she places some chopsticks beside the bowl and makes her way back to the couch and waits for Dazai to move.
There’s a pause of begrudging silence until Dazai turns to look at Yosano—and she has to ignore the flutter in her heart at the sight of how messy his hair is, how boyishly attractive it looks even when Dazai looks exhausted as hell—and there’s a small pout dancing on Dazai’s mouth, “I’ll eat it if you help me~”
Yosano snorts as she leans down to cup Dazai’s cheeks and places a delicate kiss on his forehead, murmuring against his skin, “I’ll go draw a bath while you eat.”
Once Dazai inherently realizes that Yosano won’t feed him (such a tragedy if you ask him) he pouts even more—but that can only last for so long when her hands feel warm against his face and her lips against his skin are soothing.
But he doesn’t have the energy to try to get her to stay. So, instead, he watches her leave into the hallway that leads to her bedroom, hesitant to get up and find the table where Yosano left the food on.
Never in her life would Yosano ever imagine herself being in the position she is now.
Never, in a million years, would Yosano ever imagine that she would be looking through her washroom cabinet to go through different soap bottles to see which scent Dazai would enjoy bathing in the most.
If someone had told her a year ago that Yosano would be making sure the water in the bathtub is warm enough for Dazai’s skin and that she would try to make as many bubbles as she can with the soap for Dazai to enjoy—she would have your head as a centrepiece for her desk.
And yet here she is, standing with a satisfied smile making its way across her face when the tub is filled with bubbles, reeling inside with pride and warmth when she imagines how much Dazai would enjoy this.
Life just works out in peculiar ways for you, doesn’t it?
When she finds Dazai in the kitchen, she would be lying if she said she wasn’t shocked to see him in the middle of eating—albeit a bit slow with his movements—but still, he’s eating.
Yosano didn’t think the man would move from that couch without her forcing him to but…here they are and…
And her chest gets pooled with warmth with how proud she is.
“Seems like you’re enjoying the food,” Yosano quips as she takes out a glass from the kitchen cabinet to fill with water, then makes her way to where Dazai is to hand him the glass, earning an appreciative hum as Dazai washes down his food with water.
Dazai lets out a sigh when he finishes nearly half the glass and flashes Yosano a grin—one that’s so wide that it reaches his eyes and her heart feels like the sun is beaming inside her—and gently sets the glass on the table, “How could I not enjoy your cooking?”
Yosano’s attempt at holding back a short giggle is futile and Dazai seems to glow at his success of making her smile like that, taking that opportunity to forgo his bowl of food and reach for her hands to pull her in between his legs.
Sometimes…they can be a little domestic.
It was weird at first, especially for Yosano. She doesn’t do…whatever this is but—
Neither of them had someone to care for them the way they do for each other now. Every touch on their body from another hand was never as delicate as it is now.
They didn’t get to experience the warmth that a child should have felt from another adult.
But now…
Now they can experience all of the things that they have been unknowingly missing and indulge in it with just the two of them in the small world that they have created for themselves.
Taking the hint that Dazai has no intention of finishing his food anymore—at first, Yosano is ready to push him off and try to make him finish but, once she glances over his bowl and notices that just about more than half of it is gone, she takes that as progress and eventually gives into Dazai’s pull and wrap her arms around his neck while Dazai’s arms simultaneously wrap his arms around her middle.
After a few seconds of playing with the ends of Dazai’s hair that sit at his nape, Yosano lets out a small breath, muttering, “The bath is ready.”
Dazai lets out a defiant noise into the fabric of Yosano’s shirt, and she can feel the subtle vibration from it on her body, a little ticklish as well, “…Do I have to do that? Can’t I just…” Dazai presses his face further into her shirt and Yosano is sure he’s nearly suffocating himself, “Skip that part and go to the good part?”
Yosano snorts, “The bath is the good part.”
“How?”
Yosano tilts her head at the realization that Dazai has probably never got the luxury to simply relax in a bathtub full of water without the intention of—
Well, the bandages around his arms and wrists are telling enough to finish that sentence.
“…” Yosano’s smile is small but there, and she curls one finger to let one of Dazai’s strands dance around it, “I can show you.”
Sleepily, Dazai lifts his head to look up at Yosano through his lashes, his eye holds a glint of doubt in it, seemingly pondering over the idea in that overworked brain of his until, eventually, Dazai puffs out a defeated sigh that causes his bangs to lift and flop back onto his forehead, “…Fine.”
Yosano smiles at that, burying that smile into a quick peck on Dazai’s lips and she chuckles lightly when she feels Dazai’s attempt to keep her in that spot and turn the kiss into something more only for Yosano to deny him and earning a protesting whine in return.
Getting him into the bathtub that’s down the hallway was no easy task for Yosano. Dazai can act like a clingy child when he wants and to her own dismay, he chooses that moment to make it take longer than necessary for them to finally get into the washroom.
But, she manages—like with all things—and Dazai eventually ends up taking off his clothes, however still complaining because of how much effort it takes, but he does it.
And when Yosano lifts her eyebrow and eyes the white gauzes that wrap Dazai’s body like a mummy, a silent request for him to take those off too—he listens just...a bit slower this time.
Seeing him without the bandages isn’t anything new. She prefers them off whenever they’re alone, especially when they’re under the covers—she likes that kind of contact with him.
Dazai was hesitant initially when Yosano asked him to take them off for the first time. But that’s when she promptly reminds him that she’s a doctor and that she has to see scars for a living—he’s unwrapping them sheepishly soon after.
And when Dazai is stripped bare, all he has to do is get in the bathtub and—
The first thing he notices is that there’s a lot of bubbles. Something he didn’t think he would appreciate but a big part of him is beaming with the excitement of playing with them.
The second thing Dazai recognizes is that the water is comfortably warm when he sinks in, blanketing most of his body with heavy warmth that soothes his muscles and lulls him to relax into the heat with a relieved sigh.
It’s…nice. Different compared to the last time he stepped foot into a bathtub. The slight anxiety of bringing back those memories gets quickly melted away when Dazai brings up his hands with a mountain of bubbles in his palms and he smiles childishly when he blows at them and watches the small spheres of soapy liquid float in the air in front of him.
But, his attention gets quickly interrupted when, in his peripheral vision, Dazai notices Yosano unbuttoning her white shirt and Dazai jerks his head to watch the shirt fall on the floor, eyes following Yosano’s movements as she also pulls down her skirt.
And just like that, every nerve in his body that has been begging him to rest has been replaced with eagerness, ready to take on the world (and Yosano) when the final piece of fabric that’s covering Yosano’s body gets discarded.
Dazai gapes with a lopsided grin when he looks at Yosano, giving her a suggestive look that doesn’t go unnoticed when she chuckles lightly and steps in.
If it means they get to do what Dazai assumes they’re about to do—he doesn’t mind taking more baths every so often.
“Move up.”
A little confused, Dazai doesn’t say anything as he complies and moves forward and watches with curiosity as Yosano situates herself behind him, making him shudder as the feeling of her legs stretching out and enveloping his body in between them.
It’s not a position he predicted for them to be in but he doesn’t mind this either.
Humming contentedly, Dazai leans back with the guidance of Yosano’s hands on his shoulders and rests his back against her chest—it’s soft.
A position that Dazai will gladly allow himself to get comfortable in with the anticipation of something else thrumming inside him until—
Dazai’s ears open up with the sound of something clicking open and Yosano’s hands—he’s now realizing—are gone.
Dazai frowns when he turns to look behind his shoulder only to see Yosano pouring shampoo into the palms of her hand and that’s when the realization sets in that Dazai was completely wrong about Yosano’s intentions tonight.
Dazai deflates with a small pout, “I thought you had something else in mind.”
Dazai can feel his back vibrate when Yosano chuckles, lighthearted and amused at how, even when the man is exhausted, he still manages to have sex stir in his mind like a horny teenager.
“Not tonight.”
Dazai twists his lips with slight intrigue at what Yosano has planned instead, “Then...what are you doing?”
Yosano is ready to answer until she takes in what she’s doing and her face flushes with slight self-consciousness because of this…
This is something more intimate. Something that couples would do not—
Not whatever they have between them.
Maybe sex would have been the better option here instead of—what? Washing Dazai’s hair? When the hell did she ever think she would do that for someone else?
Maybe this whole thing between them has gotten her softer.
But, whatever; the shampoo is already poured and she’s not going to back out now.
Huffing out a breath, Yosano chooses not to answer Dazai’s curiosity, slight humiliation that she covers very well in her voice, “Just…turn around.”
Dazai’s eyes glance over to her hands once again before they meet magenta eyes and that’s when he figures it out.
Oh.
The smirk that makes its way onto his face is lopsided and knowing, there’s a teasing hilt to his voice, “Yosano…” and Yosano hates how much warmer she feels when he looks at her like that, “are you going to wash my hair?”
Yosano inhales a deep breath before she exhales with a roll of her eyes, “Shut up—just….” Yosano nudges her head in a gesture that tells Dazai to turn around and he does, the smirk never leaving, “It’ll help you relax.”
Dazai makes a noise that sounds like he believes her but there’s something else behind it like he knows it isn’t just because of that but he doesn’t voice it out loud.
Yosano is grateful for that.
Yosano’s touches on his skin are nothing new. Her hands have been nearly every square inch of Dazai’s body, meaning she has had her fingers tangled into his hair and played with it whenever they’re laying down, both coming down from a high.
However, this time when Yosano’s fingers slide through soft locks and reach his scalp—Dazai isn’t fast enough to stop the shiver that wracks through him at the contact. One that he’s sure Yosano noticed.
Even when he feels her fingers dig in and start massaging his scalp—Dazai feels like every single string that’s been keeping him together has been cut loose and he’s ready to crumble like a cookie under her touch.
It’s different but not unwelcome. Dazai, in all his life, has never had anything like this be given to him without something in return.
He never got the chance to experience the security of just being taken care of and pampered, being able to let all walls be broken down and expose himself so vulnerable to someone else.
Dazai’s life never allowed such things and now…
Now Dazai has to take a deep breath when the messages gain pressure and he’s being filled with so many different emotions that, for once in his life, he doesn’t have the agility to box them up and hide them anymore.
And what makes everything even better is how much he knows this is a lot for Yosano as well.
She never thought her hands could produce such kindness to another person like this.
He knows Yosano has never done this for anyone else—it’s asking for way too much from her. She doesn’t do this and yet, she’s the one who initiated to do this for him?
It feels like the rays from the sun have made their way inside him and Dazai thinks he might explode with immense appreciation and warmth.
Dazai sighs, tired, and sinks further back against Yosano’s chest, causing the water in the tub to rise a little and cover more of their bodies.
“...I like this,” Dazai murmurs as he closes his eyes when Yosano’s fingers gently dig into his scalp to massage in the floral-scented shampoo.
Yosano’s chest vibrates against Dazai’s exposed back with a faint chuckle, “Yeah well, don’t get used to it.” But Dazai can tell that the weight of Yosano’s words holds nothing.
There’s a stretch of a smile across Dazai’s face that makes the corner of his eyes crinkle, even when they’re closed, and his chest feels light as he talks, his voice is more playful than anything, “Akiko is so mean to me~”
Yosano merely hums but they fall into a comfortable silence after that with Dazai’s head slightly moving in rhythm with how Yosano’s fingers are working into his scalp.
Despite how new this entire thing is…it feels more like something that Dazai has been longing for without consciously knowing yet. Like something that he can easily warm up to and know that this is okay.
The thing that nobody told Dazai nor has Dazai ever got to experience himself is just how relaxing it is to have someone else wash your hair. Their fingertips seem to hit all of the right nerves that act like a button to make him ease up and have mellowness swirl inside his body.
And with his eyes already closed and leaning against Yosano’s chest—providing him two very soft pillows to rest on—accompanied by the quiet humming from above, that seems to set a low vibration against Dazai’s body, it’s easy for Dazai to let the fog of tranquillity take over and just…sleep.
Yosano doesn’t realize Dazai has fallen asleep. Not when she has busied herself with working in the conditioner after and continues to hum a melody that’s been stuck in her head all day.
She doesn’t realize until she notices that Dazai’s head is a bit heavier on her and when she asks him a question—he doesn’t answer.
Yosano frowns and her arms drop from Dazai’s hair to lightly tap her fingers on his shoulder, “Dazai?”
A few more seconds of silence pass before Yosano shuffles to angle her head so she can look at Dazai and that’s when she sees that the man’s eyes are closed and she takes in how levelled and soft Dazai’s breathing is, meaning he’s—
Oh.
Yosano sucks in a sharp breath and returns to her original position, now more careful with her movements.
Now, Yosano finds her in a tiny predicament.
On one hand, she wants to let Dazai sleep because the man barely gets any in the first place. She learned about his insomnia problem a while ago, tried to talk to him about it but in the end—Dazai’s nights remain restless while insomnia throws a party inside his head.
He looks peaceful.
But, on the other hand, they’re still in a bathtub. Surrounded by water that’s losing its warmth at a rapid speed and their toes and fingers are starting to prune.
Plus, Dazai’s body is starting to get slightly heavy on her chest.
Yosano winces with guilt when she moves and lightly nudges Dazai to prompt him to get up.
“Dazai,” She calls out again, this time louder but still in a soft tone.
That seems to work as Dazai, slowly and hazily, inhales a sharp breath through his nose and blinks his eyes open, seeming a bit disoriented at first.
Dazai’s eyes flutter and there’s a frown pulling at his lips when his eyes wander to take in where he is and when that settles in, his frown deepens because he doesn’t remember falling asleep.
“Hey,” Dazai jolts slightly at the voice but then immediately loosens into that sound when he remembers whose voice that belongs to.
Clearing his throat, Dazai sighs with elation when he also takes in the position he fell asleep in.
No wonder it was so easy for him to fall asleep this time.
“Hey.”
Yosano deliberately ignores the flutter in her stomach when she hears how low Dazai’s voice sounds, still raspy from sleep.
Yosano taps his shoulders and there’s a smile in her voice, “Think it’s time to get out now.”
Dazai’s groan is defiant like he doesn’t want to get out because he’s perfectly comfortable like this but—
“I can only hold so much weight,” Yosano lets out a tired chuckle—it seems like sleep is finally tugging at her.
And that’s when Dazai tenses and he immediately moves to get off of Yosano’s chest—internally mourning the loss of that feeling being so snug behind him—and he doesn’t miss the little sigh of relief that comes out of her.
Moving to drain the water, Yosano lets out a huff when she finally gets up, stifling a moan when she finally gets to stretch out her limbs that have been sitting in the same position for about an hour.
Dazai is already out of the tub and he’s shameless with the way he walks into Yosano’s bedroom fully naked, not even bothering to cover with a towel.
Either it’s on purpose or Dazai is just really tired—Yosano can’t tell.
When Yosano is finally out of the washroom—a towel wrapped around her body—she walks into her bedroom with the view of Dazai standing near her wardrobe, in the middle of tying his robe.
That’s another thing—Dazai has been leaving bits of his clothes at Yosano’s throughout the time they have been seeing each other.
Something about it being more convenient when he’s here, a lame attempt at an excuse but it’s one that Yosano still accepts.
And one of the pieces of clothing that Dazai likes to keep here is this robe—velvety and dark red like the wine Yosano likes to indulge in, it almost looks rich when he puts it on—because it’s easy to throw on after sex without having to go through the hassle of putting on clothes.
But Yosano isn’t complaining about that at all.
Smirking, Yosano makes her way to his side and pulls out one of Dazai’s shirts from the drawer—a loose grey t-shirt where its bottom hem hangs along the middle of her upper thigh—and quickly puts it on in exchange for the towel that’s now dropped to the floor.
Dazai flashes her a complacent smile as he ruffles his hair with his towel, the tease in his eyes is there, but he doesn’t say anything because he knows he doesn’t need to.
Not when Yosano meets his gaze and she rolls her eyes with a sigh as she picks out her panties from her folded pile of clean clothes in the wardrobe to put on, “Shut up, they’re comfy to sleep in.”
Dazai hums but his smirk is still present as he tosses his towel aside to wash later, leaving his brown hair slightly damp and messy, his locks spiking in different directions that make him look effortlessly attractive.
And when Yosano takes in where the top of Dazai’s robe is opened to expose his collarbones and the beginning of muscles that define his chest, her hands have this itch to just…
Yosano moves to close the little distance there is between her and Dazai and she hums as she steadily presses the palms of her hand against Dazai’s exposed chest and lets her hands climb up until they encircle the brunette’s neck.
Yosano grins and there’s a playful tilt to her head, “See? The bath wasn’t so bad.”
Dazai chuckles softly and wraps his hands around Yosano’s waist to pull her closer, the scent of the soap from the bath still lingers on her skin. Dazai meets her halfway when Yosano presses up slightly on her toes to give a peck on the lips, and he murmurs against Yosano’s lips, “It was alright~”
But Yosano can feel the hint of admission in that voice of his when he says it, causing her to merely smile into a long kiss.
He liked it.
Especially when he murmurs a soft, "Thank you," between kisses. A saying that sounds so genuine and she can feel the emotions flowing through him right at the tip of his tongue--
She certainly doesn't mind doing this again.
They don’t stay like that for long nor do they try to take the kiss any further—something that they both usually find themselves whenever they’re in this position.
Instead, they give each a few more languid pecks, they’re small and short and yet Yosano can still feel the emotions of appreciation through them from Dazai, making her chest flutter with warmth.
Once they do break, sleep hangs heavy between them and that’s when Yosano sighs as she pushes away to go to bed.
She lifts a blanket from her bed to crawl in, her body ready to drop dead at any second now that she’s settling in for the night, her mind ready to shut down.
Dazai follows and when he finally sinks onto the bed, it feels like heading straight first into a cloud. It’s pure bliss at this point.
Initially, Dazai was going to lay beside Yosano but…
When he looks at her, her legs are spread apart slightly and it’s like an open invitation for him to just—
Dazai crawls up and Yosano doesn’t stop him when he positions himself between her legs and rests his head on her stomach.
To just lay there and sleep. It’s comfortable and he would ask Yosano if this is okay but he feels her relaxing into it as well, both hands coming up to gently be placed on top of his head.
“Still tired?” Yosano asks quietly. The weight on her stomach is comfortable. Grounding. Oddly, it’s helping her fall asleep quicker.
“Mhmm,” Dazai hums with a yawn, rubbing his face against the fabric that smells like detergent.
Good, Yosano thinks to herself. Dazai might get a full eight to nine hours of sleep tonight, which might be a damn miracle but it’s possible with the way he is right now.
Slowly, Yosano’s fingers begin to move in the same way they did earlier in the tub, earning her a soft, happy sigh from Dazai as he lets the feeling lull him back to sleep.
Neither of them remembers when they both fell asleep and who did first. But they do somehow end up with Dazai beside Yosano as she hugs him from behind, letting Dazai’s body curl into her arms as she wakes up the next morning, fully rested.
Yosano never would have imagined her life to turn out like this, to be where she is now with him but…
As she watches the sunrise from the window in her room casts a golden glow at the tips of Dazai’s hair and listens to the soft, peaceful breathing from Dazai. She's able to shuffle a little closer until her chest meets his back, holding on for a little longer until it's time to get up and tackle another day of work—
Yosano is starting to believe that, perhaps, allowing herself to have something like this isn't so scary anymore and...she doesn’t mind where this path is leading her to.
