Who Knew A Potion Could Cause This?

Summary:

After testing out a new potion for Eda, Luz starts giving off a sweet smell that makes witchlings and creatures alike more affectionate. It only affects those who get too close. She doesn't mind, but what happens when Amity gets affected as well?

Mostly fluff, and cuddles. This could be rated G but I rated it T just to be safe.

Notes:

This is a self indulgent fanfic that's completely pointless. I've been on a Lumity brain rot lately, and just needed to write my ideas down, if people enjoy them good, if not that's fine as well.

Also all the characters are a mythical creature of some sort, but only change appearance when under an outside influence or when they experience high emotions.

Eda- Harpy
Luz- Werewolf
Amity- Dragon
Gus- Púca
Willow- A nature Nymph

I just wanted Werewolf Luz and Dragon Amity cause why not. They aren't traditional though. This isn't checked for grammar or spellings btw, and was typed on my phone. So apologies for any issues with that.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

Luz awoke to the clattering of kitchen utensils. It was fairly early which made it strange, usually Eda woke up at a later time than her. She got up, her body protesting the movement, and made her way down the stairs.

"Eda? What are you doing?"

"Kid! Sorry, didn't mean to wake you, I was just preparing a special potion!"

That caused Luz to pause as a certain pungent smell reached her nose. "Ew, that stinks!"

"That means it's working! I know you have a more sensitive nose than I do," the older woman smirked as Luz made a face.

"I really would rather not have to smell that for the rest of the day thank you very much," the young teen proceeded to pinch her nose which did little to hide the gross smell.

Eda sighed as she mixed in another ingredient that caused the greenish mixture to become a more vibrant blue color. The horrible smell becoming something akin to peaches instead. The shift was odd and Luz raised an eyebrow in question.

"Well I also was hoping that you would test it out? And I know because of your sensitive nose you would be more reluctant to taste it if it had a horrible smell to it. Thankfully the last ingredient makes it smell a lot better," she gave a snort.

"Why do I gotta test it?"

"Because kid, King was already my last test subject, and I rather not risk Hooty drinking it and causing the house to shrink or something. So that leaves you!"

"Hmm I do like testing things," Luz said as she tapped her chin in thought. "The smell isn't bad anymore either."

"Exactly! I mean what's the worse that can happen?" She then mumbled a small, "apart from maybe being stuck in the bathroom for the rest of the day."

"Okay Harpy lady! Hit me with it!" Luz exclaimed. She would probably regret this choice but no use thinking about it now. "Though what is this potion even supposed to do?"

"Well," she grabbed an empty vial emptying the blue liquid into it. "If it works, it should cause others to not be able to lie to you. They will be forced to tell the truth, if I accidentally added too much of something, well we'll see."

Luz nodded as she looked at the vial filled with liquid. Her instincts were telling her that this probably wasn't a smart idea but she tried to push it away. She then proceeded to down the whole thing in one gulp. After a small pause and a smack of her lips tasting the sweet syrup of the potion, she tilted her head.

"Did it work?" She asked while looking at her mentor. Eda paused for a bit before a certain sweet smell started to spread around the kitchen. The older woman looked towards her student who still looked at her with a questioning glance.

"Oh, hmm well this wasn't what was supposed to happen."

"What?! Eda what do you mean by that?"

"Relax kid! Judging by the sweet smell-"

"What sweet smell?"

"Exactly!" Eda then gave a small finger gun to which Luz just gave a small pout. "You're giving off a sweet smell, and usually, that causes witchlings and monsters alike to be more affectionate."

"But you're not being more affectionate?" Luz tilted her head and Eda gave a small snort.

"I know the brew well enough to identify it. Doesn't help that it was one of my more popular potions back when I first made it. I made so much money off of it," she said while rubbing her hands together. "It mostly affects those who aren't used to it, people who like you, and anyone who might want to befriend you. Good news is that it will only last about a day."

"Well werewolves are usually affectionate anyway since we like to rub our scent on our pack," Luz explained since she didn't see the problem. "So that doesn't seem too bad."

"Oh it wouldn't be, but it might make certain creatures be a bit too clingy."

"What do you mean?"

Eda hummed as she proceeded to explain. "If someone is interested in you in a romantic sense, then that might cause an issue. The potion basically makes it so that whatever someone feels for you, will get stronger the closer they get to you. For friends it's usually more friendly gestures, for crushes," she stuck her tongue out. "It means they won't want to be apart from you and might cause them to react in a more romantic sense. The brew also puts the people it affects in a hazy like condition, so they might not fully remember everything."

"Oh, well it's a good thing no one is interested in that way then!" Luz smiled as she put her hands on her hips.

"And how do you know that?" Eda asked with a raised eyebrow.

Before they could continue though Hooty slammed open. Gus and Willow stood by the entrance to peek into the house looking towards the kitchen.

"Friends!" Luz rushed towards them. Gus and Willow paused, before they both pulled Luz into a group hug and rubbed their cheeks against hers. "Woah guys, what's the occasion?"

"I'm not sure why, but suddenly I have the urge of wanting to protect you and give you hugs." Willow stated as she squeezed Luz tighter. The nature nymph was causing the other teen to struggle with breathing.

"Willow, can't breathe," Luz tapped her arm.

"Oops sorry Luz."

"There's this really sweet smell coming from you too," Gus pointed out a he grabbed onto her arm. He almost appeared like a puppy.

"Oh! That might be because of Eda's potion. I'll explain on the way to school," Luz said as she ran upstairs to get ready for school. Willow and Gus had to stop themselves from following her.

After quickly getting ready, Luz rushed downstairs bidding a small goodbye to Eda and King who was taking a nap. During the walk to school, and while giving a small explanation to her friends, she quickly realized what Eda meant.

Willow and Gus were being a lot more affectionate, they were hugging her more frequently. Gus was making small illusions for her and Willow was giving her some flowers which ended up becoming a flower crown. Luz didn't mind too much considering she was usually affectionate, though she had to admit this felt a bit strange.

She wasn't sure if going to school would be a good idea, her instincts kicking in again. With her friends being more affectionate, she didn't know how she would handle it if she had more people be like this. Though the only other person she hung out with was-

"Amity!"

"Luz!" Amity squeaked in surprise as the human werewolf appeared. Though she paused as she noticed Willow and Gus being a bit clingy with her. What confused her more though was a hint of a sweet smell coming from somewhere.

Luz started rushing towards her friend followed closely by Willow and Gus. She then pulled her into a hug, to which her other two friends joined in. The feeling overwhelming Amity, and suddenly her senses felt flooded as the sweet smell engulfed her.

"How are ya Am- Are you okay?" Luz asked as she noticed Amity with a slightly glassy look. The young witch nodded before making a small purring like sound that rumbled from deep in her chest. "Amity?"

Suddenly Luz felt a tail wrap around her waist and pull her closer to the girl in front of her. The girl then started to rub her cheek against her neck, the action causing Luz to blush slightly. She had noticed that Amity's dragon features were slipping out, her tail had come out, her ears and arms now had some scales, her fangs becoming more visible and her pupils became slits.

Willow and Gus looked on in slight confusion before they tried to reach out towards Luz. The action caused Amity to pull her closer and give a small growl. The other two flinched, but once the other witchling deemed them not to be a threat, she relaxed.

"Uh Amity? As much as I enjoy the hug I need to go to my classes, and guys? I know you are feeling more affectionate because of the potion but maybe you shouldn't be late for your own classes?" Luz said nervously as she suddenly became very aware that this was probably not a good idea.

"Do you think you'll be okay?" Willow asked in concern.

"You sure you don't want us to look out for you?" Gus added in.

"I'm fine really! I'll see all of you at lunch okay?" Luz gave a nervous laugh as she made an attempt to leave to her class only to be stopped by a hand holding hers. "Uhm Amity? Think you can let go?"

Amity shook her head, her hand stubbornly clinging to Luz's. Willow and Gus already having headed towards class. The werewolf sighed as she let the dragon follow her to class since she didn't seem to have much of a choice.

Once she reached her class hand in hand with her friend, the teacher looked towards them before clearing his throat.

"Miss Blight, a pleasure to see you, but you should head to your own class." The response caused a growl from the young Blight. "Or you can join us that's fine too."

Luz nervously glanced around as she headed towards her desk, Amity sitting next to her as her tail was still wrapped around the werewolf.

'This is fine, I mean it's not like she's gonna follow me all day,' was her train of thought.

'I take it back! This is not fine! How has she managed to get away with following me all day!' Luz thought in a panic.

Amity had managed to attend all of the teen's classes, while also managing to be a bit of a distraction. Luz could feel her cheeks flush at every small purr, and nuzzle the dragon girl gave her. She was even more clingy than Gus or Willow, she even almost followed her to the bathroom. Thankfully, Luz had convinced her to stay by then door instead.

The young werewolf groaned as she rubbed her face, she was heading to her final class. A tail was still wrapped securely on her waist and a dragon girl happily clinging on her arm. The whole situation would of been a dream come true, had it not been for why this was happening in the first place.

Her final class was simple enough being creature studies, and this week's lesson, fell under dragons. Amity did actually share this class with her, though whether she did or didn't, it wouldn't have stopped her from attending the class.

"Okay so the final thing to talk about dragons is their courting," the teacher clapped her hands. "We won't go too in-depth with this lesson, but certain types of dragons mate for life. Once they have found someone who catches their interest, they will become protective of them, and be very affectionate," she glanced towards Amity.

"They also have the habit of wrapping their tails around them when cuddling, simply to feel grounded to their partners," she continued. "If all goes well, they will seal the pact with a bite on the neck similar to werewolves. Though another method, is by making a necklace of their memories together, and sealing it with magic. If the potential mate doesn't meet the standards however, they usually move on to someone else. Another similarity between werewolves and certain dragons, is they like to mark those who they trust with their smell."

She paused stealing another glance at the young dragon and werewolf. "Though werewolves live in packs, and most of the dragons are solitary with the exception of their partner. The marking of scent is different, as werewolves will usually rub their cheeks together, or something similar. Dragons may do that, but once they find an individual they deem worthy of trust, they will give a gift. With partners they will nuzzle against their neck. Is everyone following along?"

Luz tensed, a motion that did not escape Amity as she squeezed her tail around her waist in an attempt to comfort her. The werewolf let all this information sink in, that didn't make sense, if what the teacher was saying was true. Would that mean that Amity was attempting to court her? That wouldn't be possible right?

She squeezed her hands into tight fists as she looked at her notebook, the sudden influx of information becoming too much. She felt her head spin and her breathing quicken slightly. This was because of the potion right? Otherwise, Amity wouldn't react this way, right?

" The potion basically makes it so that whatever someone feels for you, will get stronger the closer they get to you."

Eda's word suddenly echoed in her head. If that was true, that would mean that Amity-

"Luz?"

The sudden call of her name startled her as she snapped her head up. Brown eyes stared into gold. Amity hadn't really said much all day, she seemed to become even more quiet than usual almost as if in a trance. Though Luz could see the worry in those golden hues of her.

"Uh yeah?"

Amity cracked a shy smile as she lifted one of the tanned girls hand and placed it on her cheek. "Class is over, you seemed out if it," she whispered, her eyes still slightly glazed over yet just the slightest bit more focused. A certain softness seemed to be present, both in her gaze and on the tone of her voice.

Luz felt her breath hitch as she looked at the teen in front of her. "R-Right! We should start heading out," she laughed nervously as she pulled her hand away before standing up quickly forgetting about the tail wrapped on her waist until it was too late.

The sudden momentum caused the young werewolf to lose her balance and fall directly onto Amity's lap, to which the other girl gasped in surprise.

"Oh wow, potions huh?" She mumbled a she held on to Amity's neck. The phrase caused Amity to giggle before she leaned in to rub her nose against Luz's. A faint purr sounding from deep in her chest.

"You should be more careful, you could have gotten hurt and I don't want that."

"Okay! Yeah! We should head home! Please help me up?" Luz exclaimed as she started to squirm. 'I gotta remind myself never to test out potions for Eda again.'

Amity complied a bit reluctantly, though she did continue to hold the other girl's hand. Luz was still incredibly flustered, she kept repeating in her head that this was just the potion, and that maybe it was just having side-effects on the dragon.

They started heading out of the class only for the human to be tackled by Willow and Gus.

"Woah guys!"

"Luz I'm so sorry about earlier this morning!" Willow exclaimed as she had her hands on her shoulders.

"No kidding! That sweet smell made everything get a bit hazy, and even now it still is but it's become a bit more bearable! That is some strong potion," Gus added in as he scratched the back of his head. "Willow also found a plant that helps lessen the effect of it."

"Really?"

"Mhm," the nymph said before glancing at the pairs intertwined hands. "We could give some to Amity, unless you prefer her being this affectionate."

Willow gave a small smirk as Luz let out a mix between a squeak and a choking sound. The dragon gently patting her back to try and help her regain her composure.

"No, no, we should give some to Amity," she sighed out.

"The potion apparently makes it feel as if it's a dream," Gus stated. "So that's why everything felt hazy, it took a while to realize that it was not a dream."

"Amity should snap out of it somewhat quickly, but she also seems to have been more affected than us," Willow poked her cheek. "I wonder why."

Though it was phrased as a question, it wasn't. Willow was well aware of Amity's feelings towards the wolf, and she was also aware that they were reciprocated. Though it didn't help that Luz wasn't very subtle about it, she was only a bit better at hiding it than Amity.

Gus had taken a while to realize what was going on between the pair, but eventually even he had to admit they weren't subtle. Especially when a certain friend of his kept asking to borrow his library card.

"Here," Willow took out a small vial with green liquid. She signaled for Amity to drink it, but the other teen just gave a small growl and nuzzled closer to Luz. The action caused a sigh to escape. "Luz maybe you should give it to her? Really at this point I think she would only take it if you give it to her."

The werewolf paused, before she gave a small nod and took the vial and turned towards Amity. "Please?"

The young dragon stared at her before shaking her head and nuzzling into Luz's neck. She squeezed the hand she was holding, the action almost holding a certain anxiousness to it.

"Amity?" Willow broke the silence, causing the girl to tense.

"I don't wanna," was the small whisper that came. The breath causing Luz to shudder as Amity was still nuzzled against her neck. "Taking it means going back to hiding my feelings. All because I'm too scared of getting rejected. I just want to hold on to this for a bit longer."

The small admission was a low whisper, but Luz still heard it loud and clear. Willow and Gus didn't seem to have heard it, judging by then confused glances.

"Guys," Luz turned to Willow and Gus giving them a small smile. "Sorry, but any chance you can let us talk in private?"

Her best friends exchanged a knowing glance before giving a small nod. They gave each other quick hugs before bidding them goodbye. That left the two girls alone in the hallway.

"Amity?"

"I don't wanna wake up yet."

Suddenly it made some sense, Eda mentioned that the potion seemed to amplify peoples feelings. It also seemed to make them feel hazy and out of it which explains what her friends went through. That means, Amity thought everything that happened was a dream of sorts, one that had some of her deeper desires. That would explain the glassy looks.

"What if," Luz hesitated. "This wasn't a dream?"

Amity frowned, "Then I would have a whole new wave of issues. I mean," she gently swiped her hair back with her hand. "I would die of embarrassment, and then probably ask that you forget everything that happened."

"What if I don't wanna forget?" The werewolf blushed as she bit her bottom lip and glanced away. Then after taking a deep breath, she made eye contact with those golden hues. "What if I feel the same?"

The dragon paused her thoughts swirling in her head. This was probably the most vivid she had ever dreamt, but now seeds of doubts were planted in her mind as she glanced down at the green vial still in Luz's hand. Was this really a dream? Most of her dreams similar to this weren't quite so vivid, and they usually ended with rejection. Taking a plunge, she quickly grabbed the vial from Luz and gulped it down.

The other teen was surprised by the sudden movement and before she could comprehend what was going on, the vial was empty. They waited in a small silence for a beat or two. The glassy look from those golden eyes seeming to slowly vanish as they became more focused. They widened as emotions such a shock and disbelief passed through before settling on embarrassment.

"Oh no," Amity quickly separated from the other teen before making a quick dash for the doors. Her face becoming bright red. "I'm so sorry!" She called out as she tried making sense about what happened.

Luz took a while before what happened registered, by then Amity was already a ways away. That didn't stop her however, from rushing to her and grabbing her by the wrist.

"Amity wait!"

"Luz I'm so sorry! Can we just forget what happened and go back to how it was before?"

"But I don't want that," she pulled the other girl's wrist slightly. That caused Amity to remain still as she nervously glanced at the other teen. An ever present blush still dusting her cheeks.

"Listen Amity, this isn't exactly how I wanted this to happen," Luz shuffled her feet. "I wanted to ask you out in a better way, cause you're way too cool, cute, and classy. But I also didn't want to make a grand cheesy gesture because then you would think I'm lame-"

"I'm not as cool as you think," Amity interrupted, then gave a shy smile, as she rubbed her arm. She slowly reached out and grabbed onto Luz's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I also would never think you're lame Luz, you're brave, you do things I could never do. You care about others, you're so stubborn, but because of that you helped me believe in myself more. You helped me become better, and I'm really glad I met you. You make me want to be a better person."

Luz rubbed her eyes as small tears began to escape before she pulled Amity into a hug.

"Thank you so much. I had so much I wanted to say but now I can't even think of anything," she gave a breathy laugh. "You make me want to be better too, I always rush into things without thinking. You help me out when I get into trouble, also you're a lot braver than you think. I mean you jumped in and stood against Grometheus despite your fear to help me out. Listen, I don't know what my future holds, things are scary right now but, I do know one thing. I want you to be in it, so," she paused as she stole a glance.

Amity held her breath as she stared into deep brown eyes, still a bit glassy from the earlier tears. Luz gave a smile as she squeezed the other girl's hands, gently sliding her thumb over the knuckles. Both of their cheeks becoming flushed at what was about to happen.

"Amity Blight, will you be my girlfriend?"

"Yes!"

It wasn't quite as romantic as they had planned, but there in the empty hallways of Hexside, the two girls couldn't care less. They were just happy to have let out their feelings for each other, albeit a bit awkwardly.

"This is still very scary," Luz chuckled as Amity agreed with the statement.

"Hopefully it gets easier with time," the dragon gave a gentle smile as she nuzzled against hers new girlfriend's neck. The action causing a purr to escape.

"So do all dragons purr? Or is that just you?" Luz laughed lightly as Amity gave a tiny squeak before burying her face deeper into her neck.

"Hush, at least I don't whine when I don't get enough affection," she teased back.

"Well at least now I have an awesome girlfriend to help out with that," Luz smiled as she rubbed her nose against the other girl's nose. They both shared a small giggle as they started walking down the hallway, hand in hand.

This was completely new territory for them and while they still held small insecurities, they couldn't be happier. Their future's were unsure and unpredictable, but they at least had each other to rely on. Maybe the potion mishap wasn't so bad.

Notes:

I might make more shorter stories based on this AU cause dragon cat like Amity is a favorite of mine. Werewolf Luz is also a favorite of mine. I love these two and they deserve so much happiness.
