Work Text:
Alina was watching her husband stare at the war table. He had been there for over an hour. Sometimes she would talk to him or others read a book near him after she put their daughters to bed. She hated to see him worried. He always feels like he has to be so strong for their family and the grisha but it gets to him.
Alina had had enough. “Sasha, I think you are more married to that table than you are to me. It always is the center of your attention.”
Alina knew this was untrue but a girl has to make sure her husband is paying attention to her sometimes. Aleksander looks up grouchily at her. Alina realizes she made a mistake. She walks over to him and pushes him in a chair as she pops into his lap.
Alina feels Aleksander relaxes against her. She smiles as she wraps her arm around his neck and slowly kisses him. Aleksander pulls her in.
He whispers against her ear “ I have to study that map because if we make any more daughters on it I will have to sell the Crown Jewels, my love.”
Alina snorts and says “Not all of our daughters were made on that table. I swear one was conceived on a bed and who knows we could have a son.”
Aleksander grunts and says “My burden is to have so many daughters who look like my beautiful wife so that I can not say no to them and have to spoil them for the end of time. We could sell tickets. Look at the formerly scary Darkling as he plays with dolls with one daughter and attends another’s tea party.”
Alina looks at him and says, “Yes, wearing that pink tiara to the throne room last week did not inspire fear, my love. I guess we could get rid of the table if you are worried about having more children.”
Aleksander scuffs “The table stays and we could have another daughter. I will find the funds.”
Aleksander picks Alina up with him as gets out of the chair and puts her on the table.
He grins and says “More children will be fine.”
Fades to black.
