Dream laughed as he raced against Blade. Their wings spread wide as they kept trying to get ahead of the other. The giant trees covered them from the sky, but also made natural obstacles. The fire of the competition burned in his chest to make him go faster. To be able to beat Blade once again. He flapped his wings harder to get ahead but felt a gust of wind. A pink blur passed and he saw Blade landed with Soot congratulating him. Dream landed next to them and sighed stretching his wings.
"Lost again, Dream” Blade smirked as he glanced at Dream. A cup of water was pushed into his hands by Soot. Dream stuck their tongue out at Blade who’s eyes widened before a laugh bubbled out of him. Dream felt a cold object nudge their hand and looked over at Fundy. The changeling’s fiery orange hair glowed in the sunlight that managed to sneak past the trees up above. A cup of water was held in his hands as he pushed it into Dream’s hands. Dream felt lucky to have such a caring lover and kissed him softly. Fundy’s face went bright red to match his hair which caused laughter to erupt from Wilbur.
“I’ll win next time Blade. Just you wait, alright?” Dream smiled his ‘trouble’ smile as many people have dubbed it which caused Soot to groan. Dream heard a giggle next to him and felt a soft feeling bloom in his chest at his lover’s laugh.
“Hey, if you are going to fight again I’m not watching it” Soot crossed his arms and huffed looking away. Everyone knew it was an empty threat. Most of the time it was Wilbur himself who suggested the challenges like the one they just did. He looked back at them to see them trying not to laugh. “Look at me! I’m serious!” He tried to keep strict control over his features although it was obvious a laugh was bubbling up in him. Laughter followed the act and after a few seconds Soot joined them holding his stomach as he laughed. His wings twitched as he took breaths to continue laughing.
Eventually they quieted down and Dream felt a yawn rip through their chest. “I’m gonna go nap in the clearing. See you all later” They kissed Fundy’s cheek as they stretched their wings to fly to the clearing.
“Be safe” Soot smiled as he waved goodbye to Dream. He elbowed Blade who shook his head.
“Don’t die. Then I’ll have to race Angel and he has never lost” Dream flipped Blade off as he soared up. He smiled at the laughter that followed him as he burst through the canopy. He flapped his wings as he drifted towards his clearing. It was just outside the Fae Forest, but no humans stayed nearby. It was a beautiful clearing with soft grass and beautiful flowers. A small stream cut though the clearing and he had looked for the river nymph there, but never found them.
Dream landed in the clearing and headed towards their favorite stone. He flopped onto the stone and let the warm heat slowly drift him off unaware of the eyes watching them.
Ponk was told to wait in the forest for a fae to come out of the Fae Forest. He hated this. Hated the fact that soon he was going to be cursed and it was all for Schlatt. The name was like venom on his tongue or lava. The feeling of disgust and rage that filled him whenever he thought of that man. Unfortunately it wasn’t his place to judge. He was just a mercenary after all. The flapping of wings caused his blood to run cold. The iron knife in his hand felt heavier than ever. He glanced up to see a man with huge dove-like wings gliding down to the clearing up ahead. He watched as the man laid on the rock and slowly fell asleep. He watched and watched until Schlatt’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
Schlatt was sitting on Ponk’s chair acting as if it was a throne. One of his legs was folded over the other as he swirled the glass of wine in his hand. “If you get me the wings I can promise you that Purpled will live perfectly normal in upper society. Otherwise the poor kid might,” Schlatt had stood up after saying Purpled’s name. He swayed over to the kid and put his hand on Purpled’s head. The poor kid curled up as his fever had gotten worse. Ponk felt a growl rip through his throat. Schlatt lifted his head with a smirk holding up his hands in a calming gesture. “I can help if I get the crown”
Ponk gripped his knife tighter. His footsteps were quiet as he got closer. The fae’s wings reflected the light from the sun. Ponk hesitated, Purpled love stories about the fae. He would constantly look in the rivers or trees for even a speck of a wing or some fae hiding there. As Ponk stood over the fae he prayed to whatever gods that are listening to excuse this offence. He lightly grabs the wings and brings the knife close. He closes his eyes and-
Dream’s eyes snapped open. He felt hot pressure on his back. All he could hear were screams and he tried to look around only for everything to blur and swirl. Something cool was running down his face. He pushed everything away and shakily wrote a symbol every fae learns. The symbol of the Protector. He slammed his hand into where the symbol was a flash of pain across his back was his reward. A sobbed ripped past his lips. He heard a flap of wings and felt cool hands on his back. It felt like instant relief and Dream whined wishing it would spread all over his back. He felt his muscles relax as he was picked up. His cheek touched something cold which made his eyes droop. Slowly he drifted off relaxing into the coolness.
