I never wanted to be a soldier, but I had no choice; it was either me or my little sibling. As I ran through the field using my boost pack to jump out of the way of landmines and moving away from artillery shots I thought of the what if’s. What if this. What if that. I mean I never had my first kiss, my first date, my first dance, and the fact that I never even came close to meeting my soulmate. I smiled thinking of the story of how my mom and dad found out that they were soulmates as I spun around and shot an enemy that was sneaking up to me. ‘My mother tried to slap my dad after he accidentally kissed her when he tripped and it was a simple story but a funny one’, I thought as I hit another enemy with the end of my gun.
“The Smiling Nymph of War!” shouted an enemy captain, if I had to guess. I slowly tilt my head, turning to the voice, seeing a group of 50 or so enemy soldiers with a man a bit older than me with white hair and stone blue cold eyes standing front and center staring at me with a glare with hate and purpose. I gave him a friendly smile sighing.
“Hello!” I said to him, putting my foot on the solder that I hit that was waking up, and gave a wave to the captain, my grin widening. His face grew darker, his eyes colder and then something snapped in him and he marched forward to me, stopping when I pointed my gun at the soldier.
“Let my soldier go. Your men have retreated!” he stated as my smile slowly fell to a frown. He froze and stepped back.
“They did?” I sneered and growled. I looked to where my people had come from and most likely went. “Those... “, I snapped and stomped on the soldier, cursing.
The captain jumped forward pulling out his battle knife and I smirk, stepping back letting the enemy soldier up. The captain and the enemy soldier ended up on the ground as 20 soldiers stood off the ground and opened fire on the enemy group. I turned and ran back to our side, all of my soldiers following most running ahead leaving me at the back.
I then heard the captain cursing and a gunshot from a bit further away from the captain’s voice. I went to jump to the side but my foot got hung on something and caused me to stumble and the bullet going through my leg.
I continued limping but I heard footsteps closing in so I turned and pulled out both of my knives, crossing my arms. All I saw then was the captain jumping and pushing me down to the ground where we fought till, he got both of my knives out of my hands. “Say goodbye Nymph,” he stated, then brought down his knife.
I closed my eyes and turned my face away waiting for the knife to cut through my skin. I waited for a few seconds and then I peeked open my eyes to see the knife was frozen within the air and his arms shaking under the stress of the pressure he was putting on the knife. My eyes widened and looked into the captain’s eyes. His eyes were the same ice cold blue but there was something there.
“You-” he started, but then stopped and duck when a bullet flew by his ear. This is where I took my chance and pushed him off. I got up and ran only peaking back to see him looking at me holding my knives in which I gave him a smile and turned back.
No one must know that I met my soulmate that day. After all, he is the enemy plus he will most likely die before we will ever end up together.
