Feel It In The Sunrise

Summary:

Megatron sees you after a long fifty years of suffering and knows what he needs to do to make things right.

You, of course, are as accepting of him as ever, and he can't help but love you for it.

Work Text:

A deep sigh of relief fell from in between Megatron’s lips; slightly parted, chapped and clammy from the cold weather as he saw the cloud of his own breath disperse in the air. It was a bitter night, and the air reeked of nostalgia and yearning as Megatron sat on the outskirts of the mines.

He wasn’t sure how to feel as he looked at the starry sky, a frown taking over his face. It had only been hours since his body had been fully rebuilt, since he’d escaped from that damn basement of a laboratory owned by Isaac Sumdac, since he’d attacked those pesky Autobots- and it had only been a few minutes since he’d been home. According to Lugnut and Blitzwing, you were there, sleeping away- apparently too depressed from his unexpected departure to do much after Starscream had blown him to bits.

The thought was spark-wrenching. He’d assumed that worst case scenario, you’d have moved on by now, assumed he was dead and found someone else.

It turned out that the truth was actually much worse- you’d been stuck exploring space and earth for fifty years, desperately hung up on him, which he supposed made sense. You’d been his other half, his confidant, his lover and the one who had been there for him- the very first supporter of his movement and his first everything, just like he was yours.

He was just thankful that, loyal and kind as they were, Blitzwing and Lugnut somehow managed to keep you alive and functioning through it all. But what would he do? Would you even want him anymore? Would you be angry, upset? He had no idea, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to know the answer. Part of him wanted to transform and fly off, leave you as you were and pray you moved on some day instead of taking you on the rollercoaster of emotions that he knew you’d have to go on if he just showed up out of the blue like this.

But then he heard footsteps- fast, light ones, pitter-pattering on the rock ground, and before he knew it, he was being tackled to the floor. His first instinct was to throw the assailant off of him and bind whoever it was for interrogation- some Autobot, no doubt- but then his servos landed on familiar hips and his vermillion optics were peering into tear-filled (e/c) ones, and those arms that were wrapping around him felt so familiar, and your easily recognizable voice was cracking as you sobbed into his shoulder and held onto him for dear life.

“I-I can finally hug you again!” You cried with a bright, beautiful excitement to your tone despite the tears that were pouring from your optics and onto his gunmetal grey frame. All Megatron could do with a mixture of guilt and elation wracking his body was sit up with you clinging to his body and hug you as tight as he could. “Primus, I missed you, I thought you were d-dead, but Lugnut kept saying you were alive and-”

“I’m alive,” Megatron confirmed, and though all he wanted in that moment was to promise you that he’d never leave again, that he’d always be there by your side and wouldn’t ever be the cause of your pain, he knew it wouldn’t be right to make false promises- he could very well end up being taken offline, imprisoned, or worse, and you’d known that going into your long-term relationship with him; he’d warned you of it, in fact, encouraged you to stay away, but you were adamant that you wanted to be with him despite that and he wanted nothing more than to be with you as well. “I’m here, I’m alive, and I’m so sorry I left you alone for that long, my dearest love.”

“I missed you,” You whispered over, and over, and over again, the words leaving you like a breathless mantra as your lover soothingly rocked you back and forth in his strong arms. “I missed you so much... I love you, Megatron.”

“And I you,” A pause, and then, Megatron felt his body being flooded by warmth- you were there, real and in the flesh, holding him like you used to, and after years of torment and waiting, everything felt okay again... Not only that, but even after all this time, you seemed to love him just as much if not more than you had before, kissing up and down his neck and laughing with glee, even as your tears still fell down your face, and he couldn’t help but think about how much he wanted this; wanted you by his side for the rest of his life, through thick and through thin, through everything and everything, because as long as he’d been gone and as much pain as he’d put you through, you still wanted him. “Be mine, (y/n),” He whispered and pulled away, blinking tears from his own optics. “Bond with me, become my conjunx. I never want to lose you again, and even if I do, I want you to know just how much I love you.”

“Really? You mean it?” You whispered back and tilted your head, arms now around his neck and body shaking with excitement. “You really still want me like that after all this time that’s passed?”

“More than anything,” He answered, and you were throwing yourself into his arms again with an excited shriek leaving you- if not for the thrill already drumming through his circuits, it would’ve hurt his audials. “Let’s stay here a while.”

You didn’t answer, but you didn’t move, either, and he held onto you as tight as he could, afraid that if he dared let go, you would crumble away and he’d be locked in that basement again.

So, you two stayed there, two beating sparks and intertwined souls at peace as the sun began to rise.

And, for the first time in a long time, everything was okay again.
