Christmas Cat

Summary:

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!

I haven't been feeling festive this year because I'm currently fighting COVID, a UTI, and my period while stressing about moving out of state next week and going back to school for the first time in a year and a half and starting a new job.

This little two-page story cheered me up, and I hope it does the same for all of you. This one is dedicated to my own bastard cat Bogie and all my cat-dad-Kylo lovers

Work Text:

"Please get your damn cat away from the tree, my love." Kylo said, trying to sound gentle despite his obvious grumpiness.

You hummed and picked up the chubby black cat despite his protests. "It's okay, my sweet little love," you cooed at the cat, trying to soothe him like a baby. "He loves you, he's just grumpy."

"I do not love that cat." Kylo grumbled.

You hummed knowingly. "Sure you don't. You just cuddle him all the time and give him kisses—"”

“Okay, okay, I get it,” Kylo held up his hands defensively and stood next to you as you bounced Boba on your hip. “What do you think? Looks straight to me.”

You tilted your head back and forth to eye it closely. “Looks groovy, can we start decorating it now?”

Kylo kissed your head. “‘Groovy’?”

You huffed. “Tubular. Rock-n-Rollin’.”

“You’re silly.” Kylo chuckled and reached over to stroke Boba’s head. The cat was surprisingly content being cradled like a baby. “And I have to put the lights on first. Then we’ll be groovy.” He shot you a sly smirk.

You gently punched Kylo in the arm. “Watch it.”

As Kylo put warm white lights on the tree that was almost too big for the formal living room, you went to the kitchen to make hot cocoa. Boba sat on the counter next to the stove to watch your actions, purring loudly and blinking slowly up at you.

“No chocolate for kitties, you little slimeball,” you chided, knowing the cute act was meant to get food from you. Boba’s ears tilted back and he glared at you. “Yeah, yeah, I know. Get off the counter, my dude. Go see your dad.” You picked up the chunky cat and set him on the ground so he could go bother Kylo.

Only a minute later, you heard Kylo say, “Hey, get out of there!” Followed by the rustling of tissue paper and boxes, topped off with a miserable yowl.

“Please stop abusing my cat,” You called out.

The large man came into the kitchen, holding Boba out to you with his hands under the cat’s armpits.

“He was trying to eat the ornaments.”

You groaned and took the cat. “We should just lock him in our room.”

Kylo shook his head. “He’ll throw a temper tantrum and knock another one of your plants over.”

You held the cat out at arm’s length to look over him. He was purring contentedly in your grasp. “I hate you, my sweet baby boy.”

Kylo grabbed a container of cat food from the fridge and dumped some into Boba’s bowl. The cat practically squirmed out of your grasp and ran to his food to take some noisy chomps of food.

“He wasn’t this annoying before I moved in. I think you ruined my cat.”

Kylo hummed and wrapped his arms around you from behind. “He’s always been a bastard, I think he’s just more open about it around me.”

You giggled and nodded. “Terrible, slimy boy.”

“Stinky baby.” Kylo kissed your neck. “You want to come decorate the tree?”
