Chapter Text
It had been a whole day since Garfield and Arlene got engaged, and Penelope was still reeling in from what happened.
"This is unbelievable!", she said, "I’ve known Garfield for longer than he’s known Arlene."
"Doubt it", Austin said, "Garfield only started hanging out here after he got a show, and he met Arlene in pre-production."
"Still, he’s gotta be at least a little bit aware of my crush", Penelope said.
"He’s probably aware", Jock said, "But he just doesn’t care."
"If it makes you feel better sis, I’m always available to help you make him care", Lonnie said.
"That’s always good to hear, Lonnie", Penelope responded, "But who knows how much time we have left?"
"However much or little time we have, we can do it!", Lonnie reassured his sister, "Pussycats can do anything!"
Meanwhile, Garfield and Arlene were at the Cat Flat, beginning to plan their wedding.
"I’m thinking we get a wedding cake with 20 layers", Garfield said, "One for each cake flavor they sell at the bakery!"
"Do you know how expensive that would be?", Arlene asked, "Plus, I don’t want to marry someone who’ll have a heart attack at the wedding."
"Ok then", Garfield said, "What about our Best Man and Maid of Honor?"
"I’m thinking we should have my sister Marlene as the Maid of Honor", Arlene suggest, "You have any ideas for a best man?"
"Yes", Garfield answered.
"Besides yourself?"
"No."
"How about Jon?", Arlene proposed.
"He’s not the best at anything, and he’s barely a man", Garfield said.
"Nermal?"
"Absolutely not!"
"Odie?"
Garfield thought long and hard about that last one.
"If you want Odie as your best man say what", Arlene said rapidly.
"What?", Garfield answered, confused.
"OK, it’s settled", Arlene said.
"Tricked again", Garfield said.
Meanwhile at the Arbuckle house, Jon was excitedly telling everyone he knew about his successful night with Jenny Clifton.
"Yes Grandma", Jon said over the phone, "I met a girl."
"No, she’s not officially my girlfriend yet. I’ve learned not to say that too soon."
"I’m only 29, I’m sure you’ll have some great-grandbabies before you pass on."
"Hang on, someone else is calling me."
Jon answered the other call, and it was from Jenny.
"Hey Jon", she said.
"Jenny great to hear from you again!", Jon said excitedly, "Most of the other girls I’ve dated have already tried to wipe their minds after the first date."
"What?", Jenny asked.
"What?", Jon asked back, trying to make her forget what he said.
"Anyway", Jenny said, "I really enjoyed dinner last night. You think we can do it again soon?"
"I’d love to!", Jon said, "Does Saturday the 14th work for you?"
"I can’t go for that", Jenny answered, "I have to visit my dad’s family in Louisiana that weekend."
"Oh", Jon said.
"But my flight takes off Saturday morning, so I’m free on Friday night", Jenny said.
"It’s a date!", Jon said, "See you on Friday!"
"Bye Jon!", Jenny said as she hung up.
Back at the pizzeria, Penelope and Lonnie were formulating their newest plan.
"What are we gonna do?", Penelope said, "We’ve already tried all the most extravagant things I can think of. Machinery, pageantry, music, and even super-heroics. What’s left?"
"We’ll just have to do something simple", Lonnie suggested.
"Like what?", Penelope asked.
"You know what the easiest way to win someone over is, sis?", Lonnie asked.
"What", Penelope responded.
"Buying him a bunch of stuff", Lonnie said, "If you can show you’ll cater to his every whim, he’ll have to at least appreciate you."
Penelope’s eyes widened, and she ran over to hug her twin.
"Lonnie", Penelope said, "That’s the smartest thing any of my brothers has ever said."
"Ahem!", Levi said, overhearing their conversation, "What about me? The super genius!"
"Alright", Penelope said "Any of my brothers besides you."
"That’s more like it", Levi said.
