Defying Gravity

Summary:

"You're forgetting that I'm a professional middleman and know everything. Just trust me on this." Makki pries the window open and stares down at Iwaizumi, who has noticed them by now.

"I swear to god, if you say something to him I'm pushing you out that window." Despite the empty threats, he kind of wants Makki to get it over with for him. Better to have someone else rip the band aid off than peel painfully at the edges your whole life. Although, if his best friend was going to cut him off for being in love with him, he probably would have done it by now. It's not like Oikawa hid it that well. It's too late to stop Makki anyway: he's already pantomime-persuaded Iwaizumi into opening his own window. Oikawa knows Iwaizumi never leaves the screen on because he doesn't care about bugs in his room and often sneaks out through the window. Conversely, Oikawa always leaves the screen on because he hates bugs, and the ground is too far of a drop to get out anyway.

Makki takes a huge breath, and Oikawa steels himself.

"OIKAWA IS IN LOVE WITH YOU AND TOO MUCH OF A SHITBRAINED WEASELFACE TO TELL YOU HIMSELF!!" Makki shouts at the top of his massive athlete lungs. Well, what's done is done.

Notes:

Makki knows all.

Work Text:

"This needs to come to an end. I'm going to tell him." Makki is plotting to ruin Oikawa's life. Well, not his life, but definitely his relationship with his best friend. Same thing.

"Makki, no. Seriously, stop. What's going to happen when he finds out? I couldn't stand to see him disgusted with me. You saw how he started acting weird when I came out, how's he going to act finding out I'm in love with him?" Oikawa looks pleadingly to Makki, who impassively stares back over the top of his Volleyball Monthly.

"He's going to act delighted because he likes you back! You know it too, you're just denying it because you're dumb and stupid and probably brain damaged from too many volleyballs to the head. Look at him," Makki points with the magazine out Oikawa's 2nd story window to Iwaizumi's room facing them from the adjacent house.

The whole neighborhood probably knows. Oikawa can't bring himself to watch Iwaizumi's reaction, burying his face in his hands. His life is over. The silence coming from the next house over is deafening. Makki is violently shaking him by the shoulders, unhelpfully narrating Iwaizumi's climbing out the window into the space between their houses. Oikawa readies himself to be yelled at.

"Take the screen off your window!" Iwaizumi shouts up to them. Oikawa definitely wasn't ready for that.

"What?"

"Take the screen off your window!" Unable to form a thought, Oikawa silently obliges. Iwaizumi walks backwards, takes a running start, and-

"Oh my god is he about to JUMP?" Makki grabs Oikawa and backs them both up. Iwaizumi takes his start and disappears for a second until, impossibly, hands latch on to the windowsill. Oikawa can only stare in amazement as Iwaizumi wrestles his torso up into the window frame and flings himself into the room.

Oikawa finds himself tackled to the bed before he can react. The words don't even register until Iwaizumi begins peppering kisses all over his face, "I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you!" Oikawa's first thought is, Oh. His second is overwhelming relief, and the rest blend together into a euphoric jumble of internal screaming. Iwaizumi loves him back. Iwaizumi, who has shared every second of Oikawa's life, who has been by his side in every endeavor, shares his love too. In retrospect he should have known, but he's not interested in retrospection when Iwaizumi is solid and safe and on top of him right now, kissing the tears off his cheeks. When had he started crying? "Don't cry, why are you crying?" Iwaizumi hardly looks concerned.

"That was so dramatic," Oikawa says through his tears. "You really had to leap into my room Taylor Lautner style? You couldn't have taken the stairs?" He's laughing now. "You're insane and I don't know why I love you." The grin on Iwaizumi's face almost rivals his own. "I love you," he repeats, and drags Iwaizumi down for a real kiss. He's kissed women before, he's even kissed men, but he's never kissed Iwaizumi, and it's more amazing than he could have imagined. He doesn't even mind that Iwaizumi is an absolute nerd virgin who clearly doesn't have much experience. It's wholesome and real and everything he's been waiting for. They lay in an embrace for a while, reveling in their happiness and their stupidity (and their lack of Makki, who probably dipped sometime between the first I love you and the tenth). They're going to have to have the what are we talk, and they'll need to tell the team, and Oikawa really needs to close his window before the bugs get in, but for now they're content to just lay in each other's company. Iwaizumi has always caught the bugs for him anyway. They'll figure the rest out together.

Notes:

This fic was brought to you by me watching Twilight again

I know a regular person jumping into a second story window is physically impossible but I'm just going to chalk it up to adrenaline and not think about it too hard <3
