Work Text:
Two-Bit nervously stood on his porch on a sunny Saturday afternoon, waiting for Dally to arrive. It was his first date with Dally, and he tried to make himself look nice and handsome. He found a pair of jeans that didn't have holes in them, a nice shirt instead of his usual Mickey Mouse shirt, and he fixed up his hair with a generous amount of grease.
And now, he was waiting, twiddling his thumbs, and readjusting that little bit of hair that kept falling away from his face. He eventually stopped fiddling around when Dally showed up and gosh, was he gorgeous.
He was wearing a brand spanking new jacket, a pair of black boots, and a necklace with a small paper airplane on the end. Two-Bit was at a loss for words, but luckily Dallas stepped in to talk.
"Well then Two-Bit, you ready to get the show on the road?" He held his hand out in a courteous yet cheesy manner.
Two-Bit responded with an excited "Absolutely!", and the boys walked all the way to Molly's hand in hand. They tried to not make it too obvious by taking the back roads, and once they reached Molly's diner, Dallas slipped his hand out of Two-Bit's, opening the diner door for him.
The diner itself was a small, cozy place, with a red and white tiled floor and pinkish walls. There were tables and a seating counter and a little jukebox next to a large neon sign that said 'Molly's.' It was full of couples who were there to spend their afternoon.
They got seated at a table near a window, and Dally asked "Well then, what should I get you?"
Two thought for a second, then said "Oh! I love milkshakes! Y'know Dally, I haven't had one since I was a little kid, my ma' went out and took some of her spare cash to buy me something nice- oh gosh I've been rambling on…"
Dally subtly let his hand brush Two-Bit's hand across the table. "Don't worry, your stories are pretty fun. How about we get a strawberry milkshake to share, my treat?"
Two-Bit nodded in agreement and Dally got up to order it, coming back with a large milkshake and two straws. "I, uh, thought it would be all romantic and stuff if I got a shared one like couples usually do. And I didn't bring enough money with me to get two…"
Two-Bit giggles and lets out a snort, making Dally laugh too. They put their straws in and started drinking and having a lengthy conversation about everything the greasers have been up to, from Ponyboy's stories he reads to gossiping about Steve and Soda to talking about how much of a stick in the mud Darry is. At one point while talking Dally got some whipped cream on his nose, and as Two tries to wipe it off Dally, he smacks away Two's hand playfully, leading to Two-Bit smearing it all over his face by accident. They both laugh so loud that a couple of folks turn to look at them, but they didn't care. They were having too much fun to notice.
They finished up the milkshake, and that's when Two-Bit got an idea. "Dal, let's use the jukebox! I have a quarter on me, we can play your favourite song if they have it."
He shrugged his shoulders with a smirk. "Sure, fine by me."
"And if you want to, we can dance along…"
"Two, man, I haven't danced in a while. I have two left feet."
"Oh c'mon, it's just for the fun of it! Hurry up, this song is gonna end, and there's already some people dancing, so why the hell not!"
Two-Bit drags Dally up to the Jukebox and Dally picks out his song of choice. The song starts off, and they both start dancing. Dally is a bit clunky at first, leading to Two teasing him about it, but he eventually gets really good, to the point where he's outdoing Two-Bit. It becomes a little bit of a competition, and everyone else on the dancefloor becomes obsolete. They're just in the moment, dancing their hearts away and having a great time. At the end of the song, they come face to face, a little breathless and staring into each other's eyes. If they weren't in public, Two-Bit woulda-
A big Soc yelled from across the room, very agitated. "Hey, greaser! Get the hell outta here before I knock your teeth out!"
"C'mon Two, this asshole's clearly looking for trouble. Hurry up!" We held hands and ran out of the diner giggling like stupid little kids again, until we reached a small ally way where no one would find us.
"Well Winston, that was a pretty successful date, huh?"
Dally shook his head breathlessly. "I'm glad you liked it Mathews, although that greaser really fucked us over, huh? I kinda wished we danced to another song. You're a pretty good dancer."
"You're not bad yourself," I rested my hand on his shoulder. "So much for being rusty or whatever you said." Dally let out a small acknowledging gust of air, almost as if to deny what Two-Bit said. He looked up and once again his eyes met up with Two-Bit's. "Y'know Dallas," he whispered, "I've been waiting to do this for a bit. " He leaned over and kissed him, with Dallas holding him tighter and swooping him downwards, almost like they were those fancy Hollywood movies.
They separated, and they both felt like they were in a daze until it started to rain. They looked up and ran out into the street, dancing in the rain. Two got cold, and Dally offered his jacket, draping it over Two-Bit. They reached Two's home, as they held their hands for one last time. Dal gave a small kiss on the cheek.
"See you around, Keith."
"See you around, Dallas."
They unlocked their fingers, and Dally walked away in the rain.
Two-Bit was alone once again on the porch, but this time with Dally's jacket covering him and a full, warm heart.
