“You will be inlaid upon this statue.” Dazai spoke sternly but monotonously at the same time. It confused and concerned Chuuya to no end. Just what happened to Dazai? Why was he suddenly so empty again? Leading his city to his own ideal of eternity?
He was shocked beyond belief when he realized the Electro Archon is actually Dazai. The Dazai Osamu, stinking manipulator, strategist, fucking mackerel, the Dazai Chuuya was partnered with, the other half of Double Black. He refused to believe Dazai would go through with something as stupid as the Vision Hunt Decree. Shouldn’t he see the damage this law is doing? If he’s really the Dazai Chuuya knew, he definitely would have rejected the idea from the very second a syllable was uttered to suggest such a thought. It was plain obvious that the Fatui was taking advantage of it. Chuuya just couldn’t- couldn’t understand.
He stared at the lifeless eyes of Dazai while he stood in the crowd. All gathered in front of the omnipresent god statue, waiting for the Shogun, Dazai, to take away yet another vision. A sense of dread pooled in his chest. It ached for both Dazai and Thoma. Who was about to get his vision taken away at the very moment. Chuuya had interfered, of course. He just couldn’t let what he saw happen to the others stripped of their ambition happen to Thoma. Another part was him secretly hoping Dazai might recognize him.
He didn’t.
Dazai didn’t bat an eye at Chuuya. No flash of recognition. No nothing.
Dazai only frowned at being interrupted. Saying some unimportant things about Chuuya capable of using elemental powers as he descended to where Chuuya stood. Being an exception, being an enemy to eternity.
Dazai saw Chuuya as his enemy at that moment. And Chuuya froze. His mind remembered Dazai’s words, before they got transported to this other world. ‘Silly Chibi will always be my dog. Always by my side. So you’ll have to defend your master from his enemies, ‘Kay?’
His mind replayed those words like a broken record. Barely registering the fact that the world around him had shattered. Bringing him somewhere else completely.
“Oh? So Chuuya is here to ruin my schemes even when we are in another universe?” A cheery voice sung out. Chuuya’s head snapped up. Only seeing Dazai standing before him, a few feet away.
But he was different.. he knew who Chuuya was. He had a mischievous glint in his eyes. “What..?” Chuuya whispered uncertainty. He stumbled over his words, “Dazai?- but how- you didn’t know-“
Dazai smiled sadly, “Chuuya. I could never forget you.” That, shut Chuuya up. “Even after so many years in this world, I have never stopped thinking about you. Wondering if we’ll ever meet.” It was during this moment when Chuuya really noticed how much he’s changed. It made sense, hundreds if not thousands of years had passed for Dazai. He had woken up before Chuuya in this world after all.
“Then why..” Chuuya left the words unspoken. Why did you not recognize me back then? Why are you doing this to your city? Dazai’s expression darkened. The earlier peace and serendipity were destroyed. He spoke in a cold tone, one Chuuya hated with passion, “It must be done, Chuuya.” Dazai walked up to him, “The reasons are complicated, but eternity is for the better.” The past Demon Prodigy, now god, placed a hand delicately on his cheek. “That person out there was merely a puppet I have created. To rule and instill stability to Inazuma while I stay in this consciousness.” Chuuya couldn’t help but snort at that, stable his ass. It was chaos out there.
“But isn’t there a better way? Don’t you realize what the Vision Hunt Decree is doing?” Chuuya furrowed his brow. Unconvinced this ‘eternity’ Dazai is thinking is exactly good. Dazai dropped his hand from his cheek, “You wouldn’t understand, Chuuya. A dumb slug like you won’t be able to comprehend my reasons.” Chuuya frowned again, “… You’re deflecting..” Frustrated, he sighed, “Can’t you just.. try something else? Or tell me about it? Why are you doing this?!” His voice gets louder with each word.
Then all at once, Dazai closed off again. Turning around and stepping back, “Chuuya. If you’re here to change my mind, it’s not happening. Things are different now. I have a reason as to why I’m doing this. And I’m certain it is correct.” Now a good distance away from each other, Dazai turned around and added, “It’s for my people.”
Chuuya blinked, before slowly slipping into hysterical laughter. Dazai watched, unbothered and unaffected. “For your people?! Are you fucking kidding me, Dazai? Do you not see the damage your ‘eternity’ is doing to them! If you’d just open your fucking eyes and come out of wherever the fuck this is then maybe you’d-“ “Enough! Chuuya!” Dazai had snapped. Chuuya scowled.
Dazai’s eyes held a dangerous glint, “I’d watch your mouth if I were you. I could kill you any moment, Chuuya.” Chuuya’s eyes narrowed, “So could I, Dazai.”
Their weapons clashed together with a loud clang. Neither backing down.
“I’m going to demolish your ideals, Dazai Osamu.”
“Go ahead and try, Nakahara Chuuya.”
