Chapter Text
Marc collapsed onto the bed. The sun was rising, it was on its way up so it was what, six am? Marc felt that six am was a valid time to go to bed especially in his situation. Khonshu stood over his bed silently. Marc just rolled to face away from him.
Khonshu instead appeared at the other end of the bed he was now facing. Marc couldn’t care less. What he needed right now was sleep, not a god watching him rest. And no, it wasn’t something that happened often . Sure, sometimes Khonshu observed him in his slumber, but he hid whenever Steven arose a few minutes later. The god could say he felt slightly upset that Marc got little to no sleep because it was his body therefore the fatigue would still hit him.
None of them were exactly sure how it worked, Steven was usually fine and brushed off his exhaustion for him trying to keep himself awake. Forced insomnia and it hurt Marc more than Steven knew. Jake only drove his cab a few times a week, he was usually fine with just observing and making very light comments on stuff, so he didn’t have the body enough to complain about fatigue.
Marc was in Brooklyn for a mission that was really just shutting down some creepy men that pick girls up from bars. They had a little ring going and it was connected to a bigger one. They only struck at night too, and plus Jake wanted to go back to his home “town” so it worked out for most of them. Except for Steven who was unhappy with trusting his neighbor with Gus VII.
He had made minimal friends, the old lady who was a regular at Steven’s workplace was very sweet, so was one of his coworkers. Jake met maybe one person while driving, and Marc met Spiderman. He was definitely young, it was obvious just by his voice, his attitude, and his overall build. Not that the guy was short, but he was certainly under twenty-five.
Marc had just about reached the half-asleep half-awake state when he was poked roughly by Khonshu’s staff. He jolted and clutched his side. “What?” He choked out, slurring it, not even entirely aware of his location.
“Wake, my son. The sun is not yet up and you have work to do .” Marc frowned, rubbing his eyes. There is no way he slept already, it felt like he had just laid down now.
“But— but you said I could sleep,” he muttered wearily. Marc pushed himself up to sit and Khonshu stood in front of him, looking restless as he tapped his foot.
“Not anymore .” He informed him. “ There is something else, now rise and return to the streets.” Marc tapped his teeth together in slight annoyance. He knew he had no choice so he proposed no contest and stood up. His hands hurt from climbing buildings enough already, now he had to go back and do it more, after the pain had set in? Whatever. The suit formed around him and he was once again out on the rooftops.
