Work Text:

"Thal!"

Cheer is audible in Nald's voice as he flies into the throne room in a burst of warmth and sound, startling Thal out of his concentration - the papers he was reading spill from loose gold fingers, falling to the floor, now completely unorganized.

"Nald…"

Sighing with faint annoyance, Thal returns the greeting, giving up on finishing his list for now. His other half hovers before his seated form, expression giddy, eyes closed and turned upwards slightly with joy. Fire burns bright from between long horns, a visible tell to Nald's excitement.

"I want to try something with you!"

This is unusual - Thal's interest is piqued. It is rare they have any secrets, but Nald's smugness is palpable through their connection, pleased at having hid his plan from Thal. Whatever his idea is, Thal is already eager to see it, Nald's emotions sinking into Thal as well.

"Very well."

"You have to come stand in front of me!"

"...Right…"

Confused but trusting, Thal rises from their throne, taking a few steps forward to meet Nald, who quickly pushes his head forward instead of explaining his idea like Thal expects.

With endless affection, the God of the Living bumps his forehead against Thal's, a shy blush now visible on both of their cheeks, porcelain white darkening into gray. Though Thal subdues his smile, he returns the gesture, careful of knocking their horns together - a quiet, gentle rumble stutters in his throat, and Nald's smile widens to a grin, flashing sharp teeth.

…You always do this…

Of course! You're too cute, Thal!

"....What is your idea?" Thal asks out loud, trying to stop the purrs that always embarrass him, changing the subject from Nald's shameless affection. Nald allows it, feeling generous, though he still smiles wide.

"Ah, I saw two mortals do something earlier. The weather has gotten cold lately in the human realm, so…"

After a quick, fond rub of his cheek against Thal's, Nald pulls back slightly, gold fingers coming up to the large, soft scarf around his neck. A God's gift, it is Nald's most precious item, and he rarely takes it off, even when sleeping. Despite this, he does so now, reverent touch unraveling the white fabric from his neck.

The scarf is surprisingly long, and wide - Thal had given it to him, but back then he had not had the precision with his aether he has now, and so it had dwarfed Nald's neck until he found the best way to wrap it around his shoulders. That is part of its charm, though, so Nald cannot imagine it in any different way.

"Hm.. they were positioned like…"

It takes some fumbling, but eventually Nald succeeds in wrapping the scarf around Thal's shoulders as well as his own, a loop that connects them physically. Thal moves closer, their horns neatly slotted together as Nald finishes his movements.

The scarf is warm, and soft - there is a scent that only Thal knows within the folds, potent from all of the years it has been draped around his other half. It settles snugly around Thal's neck, and he can't help but bring a hand up to pull the fabric higher up his face, closed eyes drooping further with relaxation.

…It is a nice moment.

Nald is warm beside him, their shoulders and arms pressed together, even though there is still more loose fabric - it is a thinly veiled excuse to stay close, but neither of them will call it out. Thal is always greedy for this, will never tire of feeling his other half so close, leeching warmth that radiates so naturally from Nald.

"How long will we stay like this, Nald?"

"Hm~ the mortals were like this for a long time. Let's do it right!"

"...Yes."

Smiling, faces turned a gentle gray, the two Gods link their fingers together, leaning into each other, bound by a precious, gifted scarf.
