Work Text:
Running through the nether, Red was on a mission to get to school on time. He might be regretting staying up so late with the others playing music. Maybe Orange makes a good point about going to bed before three in the morning. Spotting the glowing purple portal in the distance, Red booked it. As he passed by the baby piglin Blue became friends with, Red make sure to give a small wave before running through the portal.
Maybe it was the sleep deprivation or maybe it was the intense heat from the nether, but either way Red got a bit confused when he went from running to falling as he came out of the portal into the overworld. Crashing through the ceiling of the Monster School, Red knew he would be getting a lecture from his teacher, Herobrine later about paying attention to his surroundings better.
Getting up sheepishly from the floor in the storage room he always crashes into when he crashes into the school, Red tried to calm himself down so he wouldn’t embarrass himself in front of the entire class again. He opened the door hoping to see the monsters in the hallway, unfortunately, it was bare and empty. The bell must have already rang, meaning he is late for class. Walking down the pristine white quartz floor to the oak doors that opened to the classroom, Red tried to compose himself.
Red knew he was trouble as he opened the door and immediately saw Herobrine’s white eyes full of disappointment. As he tried to stammer out an excuse, Herobrine silently stared him into silence. Before it could get awkward, Herobrine teleported him to his assigned seat. Looking upon the blackboard, he could read the words “Lesson 14 - Different Biomes”. With a wave of his stick, Herobrine crossed the words out and replaced them with “Hypervigilance”.So much for keeping his fall quiet from Herobrine.
With a sigh, Red felt the teleportation from Herobroine. Expecting to see the green grass from outside the school, Red was surprised to see blackstone instead. Where was he? Looking around, he couldn’t see his monster friends or Herobrine. Taking a deep breath, Red walked down the dark hallway.
Turn after turn, Red kept finding dead ends and having to backtrack. For some reason, he felt like someone was watching him. In the background, he could hear a tick. It almost sounded like redstone. Turning around another corner, he once again was at a dead end. It was getting harder to see with only soul lanterns for light. Tearing himself away from the dead-end, Red sped up his walking. Getting more desperate to find the exit, he walked faster and faster until he was sprinting through the halls.
Seeing an iron door up ahead, Red ran straight ahead and promptly tripped. Groaning, Red saw a tripwire twisted around his leg before feeling a sharp feeling in his back. Crying out in pain, Red saw his vision darken. ‘Blindness Arrow!’ Red thought to himself with a frown. Reaching out while practically blind was not fun in taking out the arrow. Pulling the wire off his leg was even harder. Wincing as he got up off the floor, he reached out to try and find the door.
Hearing the ticks, Red continues reaching out. Unable to keep his breath steady, he felt paralyzed and the world seemed to tilt. The darkness all around him felt suffocating, as hard as the ground he keeps hitting. ‘Deepslate’ he thinks to himself. Taking a deep breath, he crawls forward towards where he hoped the door stood.
Trembling, Red paused when he felt something different. It was cold and hard. Instead of a rough texture, it was smooth. he rushed over in surprise as he realized it was the door. It took a bit to realize iron doors need redstone to open. Feeling around the door, he felt something else. A button. Pressing it, he heard the door open. As clicks in the background stopped, the blindness effect dissipated.
Red jumped back at the sight of a black skull rushing towards him. Screaming, he bolted backward and promptly tripped over the wire he had foolishly left on the ground. Bringing his arms over his head, he shrank back in hopes the wither skeleton wouldn’t hurt him.
After a minute, Red lowered his arms. The skeleton hasn’t attacked him, so maybe the wither skeleton moved on? Looking up, he saw that same black skull and the dull iron sword. Tensing up, he looked around for some sort of weapon. Glancing over the skeleton again, Red nearly groaned. The wither skeleton wasn’t even real! Just an armor stand equipped with a wither head and a stone sword.
Pushing past the armor stand, Red grabbed the sword to have something to protect himself. As he continued down the hallway, he realized the redstone clicks were back. Biting back a groan, he almost missed the blinking lights and the bright red nether bricks. Stepping through the entrance into the red themed room, Red noticed a long table with plates of food and cups filled with some sort of drink. Without thinking, Red quickly grabbed the unknown meat a took a huge bite out of it. Taking a swig of the strange juice, he immediately felt dizzy.
Red felt numb and weak all over. Using the table to keep himself, he couldn’t help but groan. The meat was rotten flesh while the drink was potion of weakness. Cursing himself for not checking before eating, he stalked over to a dent in the wall to groan. Hearing more clicks, he felt stunned as something large hit him in the head.
Stumbling backwards, Red saw a dark anvil on the ground. He couldn’t help but wonder if Herobrine was trying to kill him. With a yell of frustration, he stormed out of the room and down another hallway. Hearing the red stone clicks only seemed to agitate the red stick.
After a few turns, Red found himself at another door. With a sigh, Red opened the door. Seeing a steve head rush forward, Red screamed in terror as he bolted. Turn after turn, he felt himself think back to another time he saw that face. Unable to control his own body, unable to do anything as the monster hurt his friends. Screaming in frustration as he fell to his knees. Swiping at his face, he was surprised to feel it wet. Feeling the tears only served to frustrate Red even more. Lying on the floor, Red simply laid there crying. The sound of clicks and cries filled the halls. A familiar figure walked up to the distraught stick figure and kneeled next to them.
“Red?” Herobrine tentative asked, he never meant to push his student this far. Something in that scream Red cried out made Herobrine feel slightly worried for his student.
“Leave me alone!” Red screamed at the white eyes, only seeing the monster that controlled him. Pushing himself backwards, he tried to get away from Herobrine.
“I don’t understand,” Herobrine mumbled as he reached out a hand to comfort the distraught stick figure.
“I won’t let you control me anymore! I refuse to let you hurt my friends!” Red protested loudly as he wouldn’t let Herobrine touch him. Those words shocked Herobrine. ‘Possession?”Herobrine knew he hadn’t done that for years, especially with stick figures. THe only time he canr emember was when a bunch of sticks were abusing the icon. He controlled…a red…stick…figure.
“That was you? Wasn’t it? The stick figure I controlled all those years ago.” Herobrine said it more like a statement than a question, but Red nodded regardless. “I am so sorry, that was wrong of me to do. No wonder you were so scared of me when you first crashed into my school. If you want to, you can leave the school.”
Red looked over to Herobrine in surprise. He didn’t expect that. Wiping his tears, he sat up. Unsure what to do, he just sat there while sniffling.
“I only did this whole haunted mansion because I was hoping to get you to be more aware of your surroundings. You act before you think, and I was hoping this would help but I only made things worse.” Herobrine somberly stated, looking away from Red.
“I forgive you,” Red whispered. “I won’t forget but I forgive you.” With those words, Herobrine pulled Red into his arms. It took a while for Red to fully calm down, but Herobrine simply held him while Red cried. Once Red was calm enough to go back to class, Herobrine telleported them to the classroom.
“Class is over for today, no homework tonight.” Herobrine announced as he left Red with his friends. Red gave his friends a hug. The skeleton, spider, and enderman walked Red home through the nether.
“What happened between you and Proffessor Herobrine?” Endie asked Red, curiosity spiking.
“It’s personal, maybe one day I’ll tell you.” Red gave his friends one last hug before walking through the portal back home.
