Love is Blind

Summary:

Every spring, in the Jeon pack, a blind courtship takes place.
A total of 30 volunteer participants will try to find out if love is really blind. If it’s real and not just an illusion.
They will sit across from someone in a cabin. But they’ll never see who they’re talking to as they are separated by a wall. The only bits of identity they’ll have are their scents, their words and theirs voices.
Over the course of one month, they should find a mate to love, blindly.

Jimin agrees to participate, wanting to find love. Skeptical as ever, he’s unexpectedly swept off his feet when a certain coffee-scented alpha says hello.

Notes:

Hello. It's been a while...

Phew! We made it! TT

This fic was a challenge in many ways. I complained a lot, I was defeated and inspired at the same time. A writer's block came in the way and then Jamie rescued me.

So let me thank you properly:
My precious friend, my beta-reader, Jamie (@/starlitvantae on twt), thank you! I don't think it's possible for me to say everything I feel here. But I want to thank you for your support, your understanding, your immense help, your generosity, and just your sweet self in general. Only you know what this fic went through and what we went through while writing it. We turned it upside down multiple times, I personally cursed it more than once... What a roller-coaster. But it's here. And I'm really proud of us because I genuinely love what we wrote. That's thanks to you. Putting your name next to mine as a co-creator is my biggest pleasure and my favorite part about this fic. Though this was a wild ride, I enjoyed every second of it with you. Thank you for lending me your talent as a writer, and for the time you dedicated to this fic. We worked hard. I'm proud of us. Thank you!!! ♡♡♡

This fic is a commission for Pauline, more commonly known as hotstarjk on twitter.
To my extra tiny friend: I already told you this but thank you for trusting me to write this fic as I'm still new to this whole writing thing. You were one of the first people to support me on this writing journey. This fic challenged me in unexpected ways which I love. I hope I brought your vision to life the way you expected it. Thank you for being my friend. I hope you'll love this fic. ♡♡♡

And last but not least, thank you for reading this little fic full of love. I hope you'll enjoy and love it too.

Love.

How do you love? How do you love another soul the right way?

Loving someone…can take so many different forms. Which love language will be understood, taken, accepted, cherished, and reciprocated? Which one is the right one for that one person your heart chooses?

There was a whole spectrum of ways to love depending on the person. So how do you know when you find your mate? What tells you, in your heart, in every one of your senses, that they’re the one?

What makes your wolf squirm in giddiness and possessiveness because of the amount of affection and love you feel?

Was it even possible to have your soul moved to such an extent?

☼☽︎

Spring was the season of hope, new beginnings, and rebirth, but it had also become synonymous with love. The spring equinox marked the end of winter and the first day of the annual courting festival. Excitement was thrumming throughout the festival grounds. The idea of finding a mate was invigorating, and everyone’s scents had mixed to form something saccharine that permeated the air.

Everyone was excited, except for Jimin, whose scent was more bitter than sweet.

“You’re starting to stink up the entire village.”

Before Jimin could respond, Taehyung had pulled him into a back hug, enveloping him in caramel and warmth. He wasn’t in the mood for their usual banter, so he kept his mouth shut and closed his eyes, focusing on his breathing.

This was Jimin’s first year participating.

When he was eighteen, he thought he’d found love, but what he’d found instead was an alpha that was nothing but a selfish asshole on an ego trip.

Every word, every touch, had been a lie.

Jimin may have been naive at the time, but he hadn’t been foolish enough to bond. Finding out that he hadn’t even been viewed as a person had been painful, but a broken mating bond would’ve been…torture.

He’d spent months carefully sewing the tattered remains of his broken heart back together, and then he’d been too scared to find someone else.

But there was an instinctual part of him, his omega, that would yearn for a mate, and every year that passed, the yearning grew and grew until it had become impossible to ignore.

So he buried his fears somewhere deep inside himself and joined the festival.

There was also a promise that he’d made with the omega attached to his back.

“Trust me, Jiminie. The festival is a fun way to meet people, and there’s no rule that you have to commit to anyone,” Taehyung said. He was trying to reassure Jimin before the opening ceremony began.

“Yeah, I know. I'm just…nervous, still, I guess.”

Taehyung must have sensed the dark cloud hanging over Jimin’s head because he let go of him and turned him around so they could face each other. He waited until Jimin lifted his eyes, and then he told him, “I know how hard this is for you. But it really is the perfect opportunity for you to find someone interested in you and not just your beauty. Just try to have fun. That’s what matters most. And if you don’t like it, you can always drop out.”

Jimin had met Taehyung when they were seventeen. Their pack kept each rank separated in school because it allowed focused learning. The Jeon pack was so big that not only did each rank have its own school, but there were multiple of each. When Taehyung had moved with his parents from one side of the pack to the other, he’d found himself transferred to the omega school Jimin went to. Jimin was shy and quiet, but he’d always offered Taehyung a kind smile. At the time, Jimin didn’t have many friends. Taehyung, on the other hand, never had a problem socializing. That was how Jimin had found himself sharing Taehyung’s lunch one day when he’d forgotten his at home. And from that day onward, they were inseparable. Their friendship blossomed until they’d practically become family.

He knew that Taehyung was right. All he had to do was try. He gestured at the rows of cabins in front of them. “Walk me through how this all works again, please?”

“With pleasure.”

☼☽︎

Jungkook was looking around. Scents of excitement were prominent in the air—there was not one bitter note. Alphas were always ready. Some treated it as a game, some as entertainment to pass the time. But the majority had a common goal in mind and were prepared to find a mate. He was one of them.

“Jungkook, remember what we talked about,” his mother told him. She had pulled him to the side, away from all the other alphas, to talk in private.

“Yes, I know. You tell me every year.”

“Son, you will be the next head–alpha. You need someone respectable and worthy by your side.”

“I know that,” Jungkook said, then paused. “You know I’m careful about who I talk to and who I let get close to me. I’m well aware that people know who I am and want to take advantage of that.”

“Good,” she said, then brushed his hair out of his eyes.

“Where’s Father?”

“In the infirmary.  New pups arrived last night.”

“Ah, that’s right. I’ll visit them later,” Jungkook said, delighted. Whenever he had some spare time, even just a minute, he would stop by the infirmary to see the newborns. If there weren’t newborns, young children were usually around playing. They made him laugh, looked at him unbiased, and didn’t fear or envy him. He always felt overjoyed in the company of children.

“You do that. We have a meeting with the So pack leader tonight. Don’t be late.”

“I won’t, but I don’t see why it’s necessary to have that meeting. We already have an agreement about our respective hunting lands.”

“It doesn’t hurt to reiterate things, Jungkook. We can never be too safe around them,” she softly chided him.

Jungkook sighed. “Yes, you’re right.”

When his family took control, order and peace within the pack had been restored. They’d grown to become the largest and strongest pack of the surrounding lands, but it had not been without challenges.

“Okay, son. Have fun.” She turned and began walking away from him. Jungkook watched her go, and just as she was about to disappear completely, she shouted back at him, “Please take your time before declaring your love to someone!” Then she was gone, but he could still hear her laughter.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, smiling to himself.

He returned to the rest of the alphas and waited for the ceremony to begin.

For the past two years, the festival had given him hope that maybe he would find someone that would love him despite his status. He’d found nothing but disappointment so far.

He wondered whether this year would be like the last two—boring conversations and greedy desires.

☼☽︎

There were thirty participants, Jimin learned. Ten alphas, ten betas, and ten omegas. Fifteen cabins had been built for the festival many years ago, spread out across a field in three rows. He had only ever seen the outside of them.

He stood in front of cabin number five, staring at his reflection in the door’s small window. His blonde hair was like silk in the sun, accentuating the delicate features of his face.

He knew that he was of rare and extraordinary beauty.

The kind that makes you forget the world around you when you lay eyes on it.

The kind that makes you forget how to talk or express yourself adequately.

Jimin knew because people had told him so ever since he was a pup.

This would be the first time in his life that someone would perceive him without being able to see him, and though he was scared, a faint thrill was running down his spine, urging him forward.

Jimin opened the door and entered. Next to the door on the wall was a light switch. He flipped it up and watched as the porch light flickered to life, alerting the other participants not to enter.

There were shafts of sunlight coming through the windows built high into the arches of the roof, illuminating everything in warm hues. The cabin had a beautiful cathedral ceiling with thick wooden joists and rafters supporting it. There was a partial wall in the middle separating the two sides, and built into it was a cabinet that was accessible from both ends. For courting gifts, Taehyung had told him.

The door on the other side abruptly opened and closed, startling him.

“Hello?” a man’s voice called out.

Jimin could tell he was an alpha from his citrusy lemon scent. “Hi.”

He decided to make himself comfortable by sitting down on the only couch in the room.

“Hi there.” The alpha paused. “You have a sweet voice."

“Thank you,” Jimin murmured, not fond of compliments, especially from strangers.

“Don’t I have a nice voice?”

Jimin chuckled, thinking it was a joke, but when his laughter faded, there was only silence. “Uhhh—yes, you do,” he finally said, and It sounded like a lie, even to his own ears.

“Your scent, is it some kind of flower?”

Some kind of flower? Doesn’t he recognize cherry blossoms? They’re all over our territory in the spring. “Yes, it’s—”

“I don’t like flowers,” the alpha interrupted.

Jimin’s scent was a flower. “You don’t?”

“No.”

“Why’s that?” Jimin asked. How could someone not appreciate, love, and cherish flowers?

“Well, I find them quite useless. They just sit there in a vase. We look at them once and then forget about them until they die.”

“Isn’t that quite a pessimistic view on nature?” Jimin argued, bristling.

“Don’t get me wrong, they’re really pretty. But that’s all that there is to them.”

The words were so achingly familiar…

“Jimin is such a catch. Do you know you’re the talk of the entire pack?”

“Jimin is the prettiest omega. The perfect omega. But he’s so shallow.”

“Of course he is. What did you expect?”

“What’s going on?”

“Babe, come here.”

“Are you drunk?”

“What? Were you expecting us to drink cherry juice? Please. Come here. I want to show everyone how pretty you are.”

“You—you really think that little of me?”

“Come on, babe, you know why I’m with you.”

“No, I don’t, apparently. Enlighten me.”

“Well…look in the mirror. You’re pretty. You’re so pretty. But that’s all you are. Someone as pretty as you can only be an empty—”

Tears welled up in his eyes, blurring his vision. Jimin angrily wiped them away. When he was confident his voice wouldn’t tremble, he asked, “Is this your first time doing this?”

“No, it’s my fourth time.”

“Oh. So you’re quite experienced?”

“I guess you could say that.”

“And you’re back because you didn’t find a good match?”

“Obviously. What about you?”

“Yes, it’s my first time.”

“I can tell.”

“How can you tell?”

“Your scent…”

“Flowers. Right. Sorry.”

The hour eventually came to an end, even if it had felt like it lasted forever, and when Jimin stepped out of the cabin, the fresh air was tinted with cherry blossoms. It was invigorating after such a draining conversation.

In the second and final cabin that day, Jimin met a beta. He was friendly, much less condescending than the alpha had been before him, and they would probably make good friends outside the cabins.

But there wasn’t any hint of desire.

No curiosity.

When he left the festival grounds and went off to work, he wondered if there was even a match out there for him.

☼☽︎

“Tell us everything,” Taehyung said for the third time since arriving at Jimin’s house for their weekly dinner party with Seokjin and Hoseok.

“Shouldn’t we wait for Hoseok–hyung?”

“He can catch up later. Please tell us now,” Seokjin begged him.

“Please,” Taehyung said, staring at Jimin with puppy eyes.

Please,” they pleaded together, trying to break him.

“You guys are insufferable!” he complained and quickly retreated to the kitchen to get the food ready to serve that they had prepared together earlier.

When he was grabbing the serving dishes, he heard the front door open and close and Hoseok’s loud voice.

“Knock, knock! Sorry, I’m late!”

“Because of you, Jimin didn’t tell us anything,” Taehyung whined.

“I’m sorry, dear,” Hosoek told Taehyung, then appeared in the kitchen to help Jimin. serve the food. “Okay, but now spill, I’ve been dying to know how it went.”

“Alright, alright,” Jimin said.

They talked for hours that evening on Jimin’s large rug in his living room, surrounded by pillows, blankets, and the warm glow of his fairy lights.

He told his friends about the rude alpha that reminded him of his ex and the beta that he could only picture himself being friends with, and he also told them his fears about never finding a mate.

“Don’t forget that the festival lasts for a month,” Seokjin said, trying to reassure him.

Jimin was lying on a pile of pillows, wrapped up in one of his fuzzy blankets. “One month is not enough time, Hyung,” he whined, refusing to believe that he would find his mate in a month. “I don’t think it’s possible in such a short time.”

“You’d be surprised how quickly you can bond with someone when it’s the right one,” Taehyung said dreamily, and everyone’s attention snapped towards him.

Jimin’s eyes widened. “You found someone already?” He sat up from the comfy nest he’d made for himself.

“Actually, I’ve had my eyes on her for a while. I knew it was her the second she entered the cabin.”

“Alpha Hyeri?”

“Who else?” Hoseok said and rolled his eyes dramatically. “He’s been dreaming of her ever since they had that fight in the middle of winter. She was so mad at you because the blanket she ordered was ripped, but you still decided to charge her. The audacity, I swear,” he scolded with a smile and smacked Taehyung’s thigh playfully.

“The real question is—is she dreaming of you?” Seokjin asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

“As a matter of fact, she is.”

“She is?” Hoseok asked, feigning shock, and made everyone laugh.

“Yah! Don’t act so surprised!” Taehyung yelled and threw popcorn at his face. “We’re actually really good friends.”

“Okay, but Tae, what’s the point of the cabin if you guys already know each other?” Jimin asked, making a point.

“Well, we didn’t know we’d be in the same one. And it’s fun to talk to each other, without prejudice, without filters. Just freely, openly, and mindlessly.”

“Speaking of talking freely…did you hear that Jeon Jungkook is participating again?” Seokjin chimed in.

“He’s the head alpha’s son. Does he even have a choice?”

“I’m sure he does.”

“What makes you so sure?” Jimin asked, curious.

“He’s Jeon Jungkook. Besides, everything points to him being the next head alpha. He needs someone worthy,” Seokjin answered.

“I think it goes beyond being worthy. Sure, he needs someone respectable and all, but I’m sure most people who desire him aren’t interested as much in his person as they are in his status. Otherwise, why would he even participate if it was easy for him?” Hoseok argued.

Jimin hummed and nodded along to the rest of the conversation.

He’d never had any interaction with Jungkook beyond their eyes meeting from afar. They had never spoken to each other. He didn’t even know what Jungkook’s scent was.

To Jimin and everybody else in the pack, Jungkook was unattainable. He had that aura. He was handsome, almost god–like. The best hunter. The eldest son of the most respected alpha in the pack.

Hence, unattainable.

Not that Jimin would ever pretend to want to be with Jungkook anyway.

☼☽︎

Jimin stood in front of a different cabin than the two he had the day before, thinking that perhaps this one would give him more luck. He was about to enter when he heard Taehyung shouting his name.

“Jimin! You can’t take that cabin!”

He turned and saw Taehyung running in his direction. “Why not?”

Taehyung reached him, then immediately hunched over, struggling to catch his breath. “Because—Hyeri and I—we agreed to meet—”

“That’s so not the point of this festival! You’re cheating!” Jimin said, accusingly, but there was no real heat behind his words.

Jimin,” Taehyung whined. “Please.”

“No,” Jimin said, then turned and reached for the door handle.

“I’ll obnoxiously knock on the door until you get out,” Taehyung told him.

Jimin waited, deciding to humor Taehyung. “Go ahead.”

“I’ll scream at the top of my lungs the entire time. You won’t be able to hear yourself.”

“The only one that’s going to bother is you.”

“Jiminie.”

“Taehyungie.”

They silently stared each other down before Taehyung threw his hands in the air, giving up. “Ugh! You’re so mean!”

“I love you too,” Jimin said in a singsong voice as he entered the cabin and promptly shut the door in Taehyung’s pouting face.

“Oh, you’re not….”

“Hi, Hyeri,” Jimin greeted brightly. He did not plan on staying long because he still needed enough time to find another cabin, so he did not move to sit.

“How do you know who I am?” she asked him warily.

“It’s Jimin. And Taehyung told me.”

“Jimin. It’s been a while. How have you been?”

“I’m good. I’m not staying, by the way. I just wanted to tease Tae and gossip with you for like five minutes,” he said. Hyeri laughed, sounding delighted, making Jimin smile. He had only interacted with her a handful of times, but every time that he did, she was friendly.

She was essentially the female version of Taehyung.

“How is it on the alpha side of things?” Jimin asked, genuinely curious.

“Everyone gossips about who might be on the other side. You’ve been mentioned once or twice, by the way.”

Jimin’s smile fell from his face. “I can’t say I’m surprised.”

“They said you’re too beautiful to participate in such a game.”

Jimin scoffed, crossing his arms. He may not have dated anyone for five years, but he was still regularly hit on. “I suppose it’s the same alphas as usual?” he asked.

“Yeah. But get this— Jungkook told them to shut up. He said they should show more respect as packmates.”

“Well, he’ll be quickly disappointed with them if respect is what he wants.”

“Apparently, two alphas found their match.”

Jimin’s eyebrows lifted. “Already? That’s so fast, it barely started.”

“I’m one of them,” Hyeri said, suddenly serious.

Jimin was afraid he had offended her. “Oh—I know—I mean—”

“Calm down.” Hyeri interrupted and said, “I’m just teasing you. Payback for upsetting my Taehyungie.”

My Taehyungie. Possessiveness, playfulness, care. Jimin would be lying to himself if he said he didn’t want what they had. “You and Taehyung are meant to be, I guess.”

“Has he…you know…talked about me?” Hyeri asked, sounding shy.

Jimin could see why Taehyung was smitten with her. Alphas always acted so sure of themselves. They rarely showed any kind of vulnerability. “He has. You guys are lucky.”

“Well, tell him to be less rude, and maybe I’ll consider going further,” she said, making Jimin chuckle.

“I will. I’ll leave now and let him enter. He’s probably still sulking in front of the door. Bye, Hyeri,” he said, turning to leave.

“Bye, Jimin,” she said, and then Jimin left.

As he expected, Taehyung was standing in the same spot, still sulking. “She’s all yours,” Jimin told him.

“What did you tell her?”

Jimin started walking away. “All the bad things!”

“You’re cruel, Jimin!”

His laughter accompanied him all the way to another cabin.

When he entered, he was met with the pleasant smell of coffee. He scented the air, wanting more of it. “Hello?”

“Hello, there. I was beginning to think nobody would come,” the alpha said, and there was a pleasing lilt to his voice.

His voice is just as soothing as his scent. And his laugh… Jimin started walking toward the couch to sit when he tripped and stumbled into a small table, knocking it over. “Aish!”

“Careful there,” the alpha chuckled, but Jimin could tell that he was also concerned.

He quickly righted the table and hurried over to the couch before he could do anything else embarrassing. “Sorry,” he mumbled, sitting down.

“You don’t need to apologize. Are you safely seated?”

“I am,” Jimin laughed, embarrassed.

“I’m sorry if I come off too strongly already, but…your scent—”

“I’m sorry," Jimin interrupted.

“Please don’t apologize,” the alpha said. “I just wanted to say that I find your scent pleasing.”

“You do?” Jimin asked, surprised. He was so used to hearing that rotting flowers weren’t enjoyable.

“Yes. Cherry blossoms…I love it.”

Jimin could feel his cheeks warm. “Thank you. Your scent is…breathtaking,” he blurted, not thinking, then slapped his hand over his mouth when he realized what he’d just said.

The alpha chuckled. Jimin could tell by his scent that he was pleased. “How are you?”

“I’m…well, nervous. This is all new for me,” Jimin admitted.

“You’ll be alright, I promise.”

There was a confidence in the alpha’s voice that made Jimin believe him. “I gather this isn’t your first time doing this?”

“It’s not. Third, actually. But it might as well be the first.”

“Why is that?”

“You meet new people every time. With every stranger, it’s the first time all over again.”

“Oh. That makes sense.” Jimin was scooting himself back further into the couch to get more comfortable when he realized the alpha was releasing calming pheromones for him. It felt like a warm blanket was settling over his body, slowly easing his tension and worries away.

“What made you want to participate this season?” the alpha asked.

“My best friend talked me into it. I’m…well, let’s say that my past experiences made it hard to put myself out there or even believe in love.”

“I’m sorry,” the alpha told him, pleasant coffee scent darkening.

“You don’t need to apologize,” Jimin quickly said, trying to placate him. Calming pheromones were instinctually releasing from his scent glands in response to the alpha’s distress. “This is out of my comfort zone, so I don’t know the protocol....”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be gentle.”

You’ll be gentle…would you be a gentle lover? I wonder…would your touches be as gentle as your voice? As your scent? As your words? Would you let me reciprocate it? Would you let me ever…touch you with the same—

The alpha cleared his throat, pulling Jimin away from his thoughts.

“I have an idea. Let’s ask each other the important questions later. I don’t want to overwhelm you right away,” the alpha suggested.

“Okay.”

“How about we start with the easy questions?”

“Alright.”

“Are you still comfortably seated?”

Jimin smiled. “I am. Are you?”

“I am, too, thank you.”

His manners were endearing.

The alpha cleared his throat again and said, “Okay. I’ll start. What is your favorite color?”

Jimin wasn’t sure what kind of question he was expecting, but it wasn’t that. He started laughing, unable to control himself. “That’s such a basic question!”

“Excuse you!” the alpha scolded, but he was feigning offense. “My question was great.”

Jimin laughed harder. The alpha started laughing with him, until both of their scents had sweetened.

A comfortable silence settled, only breaking when Jimin answered, “My favorite color is…sunset.”

“Sunset?”

“Yeah. Whatever color the sunset is, that’s my favorite.”

“Your answer is beautiful. I personally love nature’s colors.”

“Nature has wonderful tones, I find them comforting.”

“We agree, then. I’ll write that down as a pro.”

Jimin’s ears picked up the distinct sound of paper rustling from the other side. “You really have a pros and cons list?”

“I’m not telling you.”

“Let me make one. Cons—coffee alpha has a bit of mischief within his seemingly charming personality.”

“I’ll take that as a pro.”

Jimin snorted, smiling. The muscles beneath his cheeks were growing weary from use. “Con number two—cocky.”

The alpha only chuckled, and his scent indicated that he was happy. Jimin found it surprisingly easy to imagine a warm smile, soft features, and kind eyes. It made him almost forget his initial wariness.

“Okay, the next question is of very high importance. Are you ready?”

Jimin pulled himself up from his relaxed position and sat up straighter. “Yes.”

“Do you like the taste of coffee?”

Jimin’s sudden intake of breath caused him to start choking on his saliva. He cursed his mind for turning simple words into a dirty thought.

The alpha waited patiently while he got his coughing under control.

“Are you asking me if I like drinking coffee? Or—” Jimin hoped the alpha understood what he was asking.

“Yes, I mean drinking coffee. What else would I mean, Cherry Blossom–ssi?”

The alpha calling Jimin by his scent stirred something within him. His omega was delighted, already signing the marriage paperwork despite his promise to remain guarded. Traitor.

“Well, you know people these days—words can have all sorts of…meanings...glad we’re on the same page then,” he tried to justify casually.

“Coffee is very important to me.”

“Understandably so,” Jimin agreed, smiling. I would like to taste coffee like his, though. It’s rich, flavorful. The kind that wakes up every single one of your senses in the morning—

“Omega?”

“Sorry. Yes, I love coffee.”

“Ah, that’s great. I talked to a beta and an omega before you, and they both hated drinking coffee.”

“Is it a deal–breaker for you?” Jimin teased.

“Yes.”

The alpha responded with such seriousness that Jimin couldn’t help but giggle, “Wow, should I leave you two alone?”

“You’re funny, Cherry Blossom.”

Something about the way he said Jimin’s scent made it feel special.

It made him feel special.

“You too…Alpha.”

“Can I ask you…a slightly more serious question?”

Jimin braced himself for anything. His omega was calm, making him want to take a leap of faith. “Yes.”

“What are you looking for in a mate and a partner?”

He thought about the question for a moment, then decided not to fear his heart’s desires and said, “I want someone to love me for me, to cherish me, to want to spend time with me. I want to love someone and give them my undivided attention, care, and affection. With my future mate, I want to share the burdens and joys of life. I want to build a beautiful love story.” The alpha wasn’t saying anything, making Jimin wonder if he had said something wrong. “I’m sorry, that was probably too much.”

“You really shouldn’t apologize so much. I think what you desire is exactly what you deserve.”

“How would you know?”

“Well, off of your sweet scent, your angelic voice, and your bright personality, I can tell you don’t have any malice within you. You are one of the rare people with a big heart and too much kindness. You deserve to be given the same by someone who cherishes you fully and completely.”

“What about you, Alpha?”

“I’m looking for someone who loves me beyond…beyond me, beyond who I am, I guess.” He paused. “I’m looking for someone who doesn’t have any other motive beyond loving me. Someone…serious, I suppose.”

“I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure I know what you mean by that, but...I do understand your motive. You want to be loved for you and not what you could offer. Do you think this is your lucky year?”

“I don’t know. But I think it’s off to a good start, Cherry Blossom.”

☼☽︎

Two weeks had passed since the start of the game, and Jimin was surprised with himself because he wasn’t nervous anymore—he was excited. He was excited about smelling the wonderful scent of coffee. He was excited about hearing the alpha’s laugh. He was excited about the random questions and the more meaningful ones.

And perhaps the excitement was also due to Jimin’s increasing love for coffee. It was barely nine in the morning, and he had already downed three cups. It seemed like he couldn’t get enough.

“Jimin, too much coffee isn’t good for you. Shouldn’t you slow down or switch to decaf?” Taehyung asked, appearing in his kitchen.

“I’m good.”

“Since when are you a coffee maniac anyway?”

“Can’t I enjoy coffee without being interrogated about it?”

“Alright, suit yourself, I guess.” Taehyung looked at him worriedly as he went off to enjoy his coffee in peace.

Jimin never thought he would be able to open up to someone again. He could feel how easy it would be to fall for the alpha with the coffee scent, and it was way too fast. Jimin didn’t know if he was ready. Maybe the fact that he even had to ask himself indicated that he wasn’t.

But even knowing that…he didn’t want to stop. He wanted to risk getting hurt again, and he almost wished he could speed up time to see where their interactions would lead.

Jimin knew to go to cabin number thirteen. It was the cabin they had met in and continued to meet in, and it was always unoccupied for them because there was a superstition surrounding the number thirteen and bad luck. Jimin didn’t believe in superstitions, and thirteen was his favorite number because it was the day his birthday fell on.

Now the number was even more special.

He knew his appearance didn’t matter in the cabin, but he was a dainty omega that loved looking good. For himself, first and foremost. He always made sure his blond hair was perfectly combed, his lips were the right shade of pink, and his jewelry matched his clothes.

Jewelry was a big part of Jimin’s life. His grandparents owned a jewelry store that he inherited upon their passing. Growing up around jewelry fostered his love of accessories, which eventually became his passion. He loved how they completed an outfit and added a little je ne sais quoi .

Jimin had packed his favorite pastries today. A few days after they first started talking, the alpha brought Jimin coffee and gave it to him through the cabinet in the wall. The next day, Jimin made sure to repay him by giving him a few pastries. After that, it was an unspoken agreement that they would share a meal of coffee and pastries every morning.

“Hello?” Jimin greeted, entering the cabin with a little bounce in his step.

“Hi, Cherry Blossom,” the alpha said, voice like music to Jimin’s ears.

“Good morning, Alpha.”

“How are you today?”

“I’m good. The sun is out so that already makes it a perfect day.”

“The sun does make everything better.”

“How was your night? Did you sleep well?” Jimin asked while walking over to the couch to sit down. He heard the alpha sigh on the other side of the wall, making his omega feel agitated.

“My night was tense, but I had this breakfast to look forward to, so it’s all good.”

“Oh…I heard some commotion in the middle of the night. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah. Some alphas drank too much. You know how it ends.”

“Fights and howling wolves,” Jimin stated, knowing the scene more than he’d like to admit. His ex was always so proud of his drunken alpha nights. Jimin was now happily discovering there were sweet alphas out there too.

“Yeah. Anyway, I smell pastries, and I’m starving.”

Jimin had been waiting for this moment all morning. He shuffled over to the cabinet and placed the pasties inside, then shut it and waited.

“Can I open it now?”

“Yes.”

Jimin heard the alpha opening the cabinet, then a gasp, and the corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. Soon after their first conversation, Jimin began learning things about him. He hated cleaning, but he always felt better after doing it. He loved painting and drawing in his free time. But one of the most endearing things that Jimin had learned was that he loved food. He always mentioned what he ate or planned on eating, and he always said it with childlike innocence.

“These look absolutely delicious. Did you get them from the bakery right across from the infirmary?”

“Yes, I did. The best bakery that we have, in my opinion.”

“I agree. Here’s the coffee I prepared for us, and there’s also a little gift for you.”

The idea of receiving his first courting gift made Jimin nervous but excited. He waited for the alpha to place everything inside the cabinet while bouncing on the balls of his feet. When he heard the sound of the door clicking shut on the other side, he opened it.

There was a cup of black coffee and a basket. The scent was so enticing, mixed with the alpha’s, that Jimin started feeling light–headed from it. “It smells divine. What’s in the basket?”

“Look, and you’ll find out.”

The alpha’s voice was lacking its usual easy–going confidence, making Jimin hesitate.

“Should I trust you?”

“That’s for you to decide, Cherry Blossom.”

Jimin peered inside and found a blanket, a sweater, a candle, and a pack of freshly roasted coffee beans. These weren’t random items thrown together. There was intent behind what he’d chosen to gift Jimin. “Is this….”

“Nesting essentials,” the alpha confirmed, but his scent was turning bitter. “I hope it’s okay. The other day you told me about loving coziness, and you also said you love coffee and the scent of coffee. So I thought it was fitting.”

“It’s perfect. It’s—” Jimin noticed a familiar scent clinging to cloth items. He snatched the sweater out of the basket and brought it up to his nose. It was unmistakable. “That’s your scent —”

“If it’s too much, I can take it back, and you can totally forget I ever gave—”

“No!” Jimin interrupted, hoping he hadn’t given him the wrong impression. “No,” he repeated, softer this time. “I…I had hoped to have my nest tainted by you.”

The alpha didn’t respond but his scent sweetened.

Jimin folded the sweater before returning it to the basket, then pulled the blanket out.

He wrapped himself in it, instinctually rubbing the soft material against his cheek and neck, and closed his eyes.

A familiar sense of calm washed over him, sweeping him away to the nights where his mother’s arms cradled him close while he quietly sang Jimin to sleep.

Your little hand’s wrapped around my finger

And it’s so quiet in the world tonight

Your little eyelids flutter ’cause you’re dreamin’

So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light

“Cherry Blossom?”

Jimin opened his eyes. He felt like he was floating, weightless.

A low rumbling sound and a soothing vibration began to lull him back to sleep. Some distant part of him recognized that they were coming from him, but he was too content to care. His eyes were beginning to drift shut again until a deep, hearty laugh startled him, and everything came back into focus.

“Were you…purring?”

Omegas only purred to comfort their pups or when they were at peace. Jimin couldn’t deny what he already knew to be true. But he also didn’t know how to respond, so he just hummed.

“And did you…cover yourself in my scent?”

Jimin should have been embarrassed, he supposed, but the alpha sounded…delighted. “I did,” he said, and something like pride began to swell in his chest because he’d made the alpha happy. “Your scent is comforting to me. I couldn’t resist.”

“What were you thinking about, if I may ask?”

“A memory of my mother when he used to sing me to sleep.” Jimin contemplated for a moment whether he should share a piece of himself that would inspire his grief. His heart decided for him. “My parents…died when I was young, and my grandparents raised me.”

Jimin felt a bittersweet emotion every time he thought of them. A feeling that would make his eyes tear up and his lips curve into a sad smile.

On the other side, the alpha remained silent, waiting for him to continue, and Jimin knew that he was listening to every word. “It was a long time ago now, but their love never left me, and it never will. And, though it’s unfair and sad, it’s not painful anymore.”

“I’m so sorry, Cherry Blossom.”

There was no pity in his voice, only understanding. I want him closer. “The effect of your scent made me feel the same sense of comfort I got from my parents,” he heard himself saying. “It feels like…home. It’s a scent my heart and my omega want to swim in.”

“You li–like it that much?”

Another thing that he had learned about the alpha was underneath all that confidence that he wore like a shield was just a boy with a gentle soul. Sometimes Jimin got to see him, and every time he did, it made him smile. “I do,” Jimin said. He got no response to his admission, but the alpha’s scent told him everything he needed to know.

The soles of his feet were beginning to ache from standing so long, so he moved his things over to the couch and side table and sat down with the blanket still wrapped around his body. He kept the basket close to his side under one of his arms. An instinctual part of himself felt possessive over his gifts, and he decided to indulge it since there was no one around to see him.

Jimin finally began to eat his breakfast, starting with a pastry to sate his grumbling belly. This is perfect…I want this. “You know, I think this is what I want,” he said between a mouthful of pastry.

“What do you mean?”

“With my future mate. I want to have breakfast with my future mate. Just the two of us enjoying the wonderful little things in life together,” Jimin admitted, then sipped his coffee, savoring the delicious taste.

“Do you want a family? Pups?”

The question caught Jimin off guard, and he began to choke after accidentally inhaling some of the coffee

“Oh my goodness, are you okay? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to blindside you like that.”

He sounded so worried and apologetic that Jimin would have laughed if he hadn’t been coughing. “I’m okay. That was so embarrassing,” Jimin said once his coughing subsided.

“Are you sure? Do you want me to go get some water?”

“No, it’s okay. Thank you,” Jimin said, feeling himself beginning to relax into a state of calmness that only came from one source. Calming pheromones again…his scent… he’s worried.

“Are you feeling better, Cherry Blossom?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“Should we move on to another question?”

There was concern in the alpha’s voice, making Jimin want to thank him. He had forgotten what it felt like to be treated with simple consideration and respect and affection and genuine care. It would’ve been a lie if he had said he didn’t like it. “No, not at all. I do want a family. I always pictured myself having two pups.”

“Why two?”

“So that they’re not lonely.”

The alpha gasped adorably. “That’s so cute.”

Jimin felt his cheeks warming. He had always loved being praised, but it made him feel something else entirely when the alpha praised him. “Do you want pups?”

“I do. I love pups. They’re such a reassuring presence. I love the unique view they have on life. I adore them,” the alpha said, and Jimin was leaning towards the wall, making sure he didn’t miss any word. “I always dreamed of my only job being the father of my pups. I want to dedicate my life to them. I’d make sure they were the happiest, most loved pups in the world, you know?”

Tears were brimming in his eyes from the honesty; he hastily wiped them away. “I’m sure you will make a wonderful father.”

“I don’t know. My parents raised me a certain way, with certain expectations. They’re wonderful, don’t get me wrong, but I want my life to be simple. My parents’ life wasn’t as simple as they wished it to be.”

“Do you have siblings?”

“I have a younger brother.”

“Do you get along?”

“We do. He’s my best friend, I think.”

“That’s wonderful. I always wanted a brother or a sister, but I’m an only child.”

Things were left unsaid, but the implications were there, and the alpha understood.

“I’m sorry, Cherry Blossom.”

Jimin pulled the blanket tighter around himself, pretending it was the ghost of a hug.

“Do you…wait, let me start again. Are you happy with your life?” the alpha then asked.

He may have lost his parents and grandparents, but he had friends who loved and supported him. He had a successful business and a lovely home. “I think I am, yes,” Jimin said, but he knew there was still something he needed to make him feel complete. “The only thing missing is…love.”

“And here you are.”

“And here I am.” Jimin smiled to himself looking at the wall.

The alpha was spellbinding. His scent was so good it was nearly asphyxiating, and it mixed with his own delicate cherry blossom scent to create something that was uniquely theirs.

Sometimes Jimin wondered if he was dreaming and whether the alpha was something born from his imagination. A figment created from his voice, laugh, scent, and words…

But he knew that he could not create someone so…perfect.

Was he insane? Hypnotized? What the alpha was doing was both cruel and wonderfully breathtaking.

Who was he? Had they ever met before? Where have you been?

Jimin wanted to consume him and be consumed by him. He wondered if the alpha would like that too. Was it crazy to desire? Jimin supposed it was, but he didn’t want the alpha to stop this incredible torture because he had grown addicted to it.

Don’t stop. Don’t stop before I can hold your hand. I think…I think I want to hold your hand, or for you to take my hand…whichever, I’ll give it to you.

Jungkook was walking home with a smile on his face. It was hard for him to believe that what was happening was real. It was hard to believe because he was Jeon Jungkook. Everybody knew who he was, personally or just from looks shared from across a room.

But Cherry Blossom was different. Jungkook had never encountered his scent before, so he wasn’t someone Jungkook knew personally. Who are you?

“Jungkook!”

Jungkook looked up and spotted Yoongi and Namjoon running towards him.

“We have to hunt before dawn...” Yoongi’s voice trailed off, and his eyes flickered over Jungkook’s face, squinting slightly when they landed on his lips.

“What?”

“You have sugar on your face,” Namjoon said.

“Oh.” Jungkook wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Better?”

“Where were you just now?”

“In the cabin.”

“Uh–huh.” Yoongi stared at him with a smug look on his face, always perceptive.

Jungkook rolled his eyes and started walking towards his house with Yoongi and Namjoon trailing close behind. “We just had breakfast together,” he finally said.

“Careful who you talk to. A lot of people know who you are and are going to take advantage of that,” Namjoon said.

“I’m really tired of people telling me this, Hyung. I know!” Jungkook paused. “This omega doesn’t know me personally, nor do I know him.”

“Doesn’t he know your scent?”

“No. His first reaction to it wasn’t that of someone who knows my scent.”

“If you say so.”

“Why is it so urgent that we hunt now? Weren’t we supposed to go tomorrow?”

“Yes, but your father ordered it. A big storm is coming, and just in case, we have to be prepared to feed everybody for a few days,” Namjoon said. He was the leader of the hunters along with Jungkook and worked closely with Jungkook’s father. He knew everything about their pack and the surrounding packs. His skills were sharp. He was one of the most valuable assets to the Jeon pack.

“A big storm? I didn’t know. It’s so sunny right now.”

“Of course you didn’t know—you were too busy flirting!” Yoongi rebuked him.

“I’m very happy about this season’s game. You know how hard the last two were.”

Yoongi’s eyes softened. “I know, I know. Now please go prepare yourself for the hunt. You better hurry!”

“Yes, I’ll meet you by the river. Bring four alphas with you. We’ll start east, and go up the mountain.” Jungkook immediately slipped into his role as the most skilled hunter and son of the head alpha. He knew when to be serious. He knew how to take care of his pack.

Jungkook loved hunting. He loved the thrill of it, but most of all, he loved being useful. And as a potential heir for the position of head alpha, he needed to be nothing less than extraordinarily skilled.

Jungkook made sure to be ready. Before each hunt, he put himself into a certain mindset—focused, unbothered, confident. He needed to be stronger than their prey and had learned to think like them.

About an hour later, with a long exhale, Jungkook ran out of his house and towards the river they had agreed to meet at, shifting into a wolf mid–way.

Hunting made him feel alive. It made his alpha thrive—the way his paws made one with the earth, and the way wind blew in his face, making his eyes water because he was fast .

He shared a look with Yoongi when he joined him, then Namjoon and four other alphas soon after. They didn’t need more than that to know what to do because they were so used to hunting together.

He spent more time than usual looking at the nature surrounding him as he ran—the cherry blossom trees, the gray clouds, the leaves that had fallen in the mud, the slight breeze.

Jungkook missed his scent.

He had talked to four omegas and two betas so far. He had already forgotten about three, two he was bored with, but kept on his radar because he needed options. The remaining one he remembered everything about—the only one that had made an impression, the only one his alpha had growled for one night after a nightmare.

Cherry Blossom.

A raindrop fell on the top of his head. Time to get to work .

With fierce determination, he ran faster towards the depths of the mountains.

☼☽︎

By the time they’d returned to the pack, the sun was setting, and the rain had started.

Jungkook was putting their catches away in the designated area when the youngest alpha they had brought with them nervously approached him.

“Excuse me, Jungkook–hyung…I think I dropped my catches by the river.”

Jungkook sighed. “Are you serious, Jihoon–ah? The storm is getting worse.”

“I’m sorry. I’m about to go get them.”

“No, you’re not going anywhere. You’re not experienced enough to go in this storm. It’s not safe. You help finish putting these away, and I’ll go get them. Ask Yoongi or Namjoon for help if you need it.”

“Okay, thank you.”

Jungkook could tell he was truly sorry. He put his hand on the young alpha's shoulder, and gave him a reassuring smile. “It’s okay. Happens to the best of us.”

He shifted and ran back towards the river. The longer he took, the harder the rain fell. He was soaking wet, and the more the sun set, the more the temperature dropped with it. The storm was beginning to pick up. Just when I needed you…thanks sun.

When he arrived at the river, Jungkook searched all over, finding nothing.

The rain was progressively getting more and more violent. He couldn’t see anything. Fuck! They must be somewhere. The other packs know not to steal our stuff. Jihoon, what did you do?

There was a chance that Jihoon had dropped his catch in the mountain. Jungkook ran up it and thankfully didn't have to go very far before spotting the dead prey on the ground near a rock. He quickly grabbed them with his mouth and took off towards the village.

In his haste, he slipped on the wet ground, twisting his leg.

The injury slowed him down significantly, but he eventually made it back to the pack, and put the missing catch away with the rest.

The storm was strong.

It was ingrained in him to take care of the young. The little alphas at school loved spending their free time with him. The idea of any of them getting lost or hurt by the storm didn’t sit well with him.

Despite his injury, he ran around the area, making sure no one was outside.

Lightning had started lighting up the sky, making the outdoors dangerous. Jungkook’s home was too far from where he was, and he didn’t want to risk getting struck.

Until the storm died down, he saw only one option.

The cabins.

He didn’t hesitate and ran towards the one cabin that he had looked forward to visiting every morning.

But he wasn’t alone.

☼☽︎

Jimin hastily closed the door to his store. He should’ve been done with work more than an hour ago, but he’d gotten held up by a customer who couldn’t decide what to buy, and he didn’t have the heart to kick her out.

The storm had progressively gotten worse. Jimin ran from his store as fast as possible, getting hit with cold wind and pelting rain, and hadn’t made it far before the lightning became unbearable. I don’t want to die.

The courting cabins were nearby. He had no choice but to seek refuge in one of them, and he knew which one he’d feel the most safe in.

Jimin ran.

When he reached the cabin, he quickly entered and looked around for something to dry himself off. There weren’t any towels available, but there were blankets.

Jimin took off his wet sweater and wrapped himself up in a warm blanket, shivering from the cold.

The only thing he could do was wait for the storm to pass, so he sat down on the sofa and made himself comfortable. The cabins were kept furnished with a few books, drinks, and snacks.

The door on the other side of the cabin suddenly opened and closed, making Jimin jump. Shit…I’m not supposed to be here.

He knew his scent had already exposed his presence in the cabin, but he still held his breath and didn’t say anything.

“Cherry Blossom?”

Relief washed over him in waves. Only one person in the world called him by that name. “Alpha…”

“Cherry Blossom. W–what are you doing here during the storm? Are you okay?”

“I’m okay. I was about to go home but got caught up in the storm. What are you doing here?”

“Hunting duties. I wasn’t f–fast enough on my way back.”

The alpha was struggling to speak through his shivering, making Jimin feel distressed. “Are you hurt?”

“It’s n–nothing, I slipped on some wet moss.”

“You must be so cold. Do you have a blanket on your side?”

“I d–don’t…”

“Here, I have extra ones.” Jimin gathered them up and passed them through the wall.

“Thank you.”

“Are you okay? You’re not going to get sick, right? You should just sit down and warm–up.” Jimin was genuinely worried and felt helpless. He had to fight the impulse to go to him.

The alpha was chuckling sweetly, making Jimin smile.

“I’ll be okay. Don’t w–worry.”

Jimin could hear him as he sat down on the couch.

They fell into a comfortable silence, waiting to warm up.

I wish I could hold you in my arms, I wish…I wish my skin would touch yours, so you could feel my body heat and use it. Use me to feel warm. To feel better.

“I guess, since we’re going to be here for a while, we might as well make the best of it?” the alpha said, pulling Jimin away from his thoughts.

“Yes, I’d love to.”

“Okay. I was wondering what your thoughts are on tattoos.”

“Tattoos?” Jimin asked. He never imagined they would touch that subject, not that he disliked them…quite the contrary. “I love them. I have one myself.”

“Really? What is it?”

“A crescent moon.”

“Mine is a sun.”

Opposites attract…are we meant to be? If we meet, will our hearts form an eclipse, disturbing the universe for the better?

“It’s almost like we complete each other in some way,” the alpha said.

Jimin pulled the blanket tighter around himself. Perhaps we’re soulmates. He closed his eyes, basking in this unknown that he cherished so much yet despised just the same. The sun and the moon. The sun to my moon. The moon to your sun. I could say it in so many different ways, and we’d still fit together. Unbothered. Unsettling. “I have to admit, I wish I could have you next to me. It would make it easier,” Jimin said.

“You’re right.”

“Are you fully warmed up?”

“I am, thanks to you.”

The smell of his cherry blossom scent was prominent in the cabin. He was releasing pheromones instinctually. Are you letting yourself be consumed by me too? Do I have the same effect on you as you do on me? Jimin cleared his throat. “I may have a gift for you.”

“Yeah?”

“I was going to give it to you tomorrow, but since we’re here, I really want to give it to you right now.”

“Please.”

Jimin got up from the couch, and walked over to the cabinet. He placed the gift inside, and gently shut the door. He had finished working on it earlier. “I hope you like it.”

He heard the alpha open the door, the sound of him opening the gift, then…nothing.

“It’s a candle that I made. My friend helped me since I’m not a candle expert.” Afraid that his gift wasn’t good enough, Jimin’s breaths came quicker. “I tried to make it smell like me. I also added a little bit of coffee. I think our scents mixed are wonderful together—”

“This is the most thoughtful gift someone has ever given me. Thank you so much,” the alpha interrupted.

Jimin’s relief was nearly palpable.

“I’m so glad that you like it.”

“Of course I do, it’s from you.”

It was the sweetest thing anyone had ever said to him.

☼☽︎

The festival was coming to an end. Twenty participants remained. Some had given up, a few had found their match and waited patiently for the closing ceremony when the couples would be revealed, but a majority were still participating.

The village always held a party during the festival. For a sense of community, to welcome spring, and to celebrate the new pups that had arrived on opening day. A field behind a cluster of cherry blossom trees was where these parties occurred. Jimin may not have participated in the festival in previous years, but he always went to the parties. There was always fun entertainment and good food.

He was pacing around his room, waiting for Taehyung to finish getting ready.  “Taehyungie, we’re going to be late!”

“I’m ready. Stop stressing. You should really slow down on the coffee.”

“The coffee isn’t the problem, you are! Because you’re taking ages to figure out what to wear!”

“Since when do you love coffee so much anyway? I still don’t understand.”

Jimin hadn’t told his friends yet about how close he and the coffee alpha had become, and he wasn’t sure how to respond.

Taehyung saw his hesitation and moved to stand in front of him, blocking him and looking at him with wide eyes. “You met someone, didn’t you?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Can we go now?” Jimin immediately turned, heading straight towards the front door.

“It’s that alpha isn’t it?”

“Did you bring the gift for the new parents and the pups?” Jimin opened the door, ready to get out.

Taehyung leaned on him while putting his shoes on and was staring at him expectantly. “You’re not changing the subject. Is it the alpha you met on the second day?”

He grabbed Taehyung's arm and ushered him out the door. “We don't have time to talk, we need to go!”

Jimin ignored Taehyung the entire way to the party.

Everyone was mingling together underneath a large canopy of string lights, making it appear as though the stars had been brought down from the night sky just for them. Various flowers had been intertwined between the lights and also decorated the tables. Food and drinks flanked the sides. Magic was the only explanation for such beauty.

Jimin stopped walking, taking a moment to appreciate the enchanting sight, and Taehyung bumped into his back.

“Hey! Why did you stop walking? Are you going to talk to me now?”

“Look at this, Tae.”

“Wow. They really outdid themselves this year.”

They walked into the crowd, searching for Seokjin and Hoseok. Jimin let his eyes wander, hyper–aware of every single scent around him. Cotton flower, cinnamon, honey, lemon, pinewood…but no coffee.

“Oh, there they are. Hyung!” Taehyung shouted, getting Hoseok’s attention.

“What took you so long? It started twenty minutes ago. The head alpha was right next to me. It was so scary,” Hoseok hissed.

“You’re so dramatic. He’s not that scary,” Jimin teased, amused by his friend. It was a welcome distraction from his anxiety.

“Okay, you can’t talk. You weren’t the one who got scolded by him.”

“Hyung, that was years ago. And I’m sorry, but it was justified.”

“Whatever. He’s a scary man and, though I respect him beyond belief, I don’t want him near me.”

“Well, we’re here now. So chill,” Taehyung said.

“Guys! Guys!” Seokjin ran over to join them.

“Hyung, tell him to chill.”

“You tell him! Guys, almost all alphas, betas, and omegas are here….”

“Does it ever jeopardize the game?” Jimin asked.

“No, there’s way too many people. If anything we’ll share eye contact without even knowing it.”

Jimin hummed. Seokjin was right. There was no way to know who was who. Everyone’s scents were thoroughly mixed. He couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit of disappointment.

All four of them served themselves a drink and stayed glued to one another during the entire party.

Jimin was hoping to recognize a certain someone , but he didn’t know how he would be able to. Maybe his instincts would be strong enough to find him.

“Jeon pack, may I have your attention!”

The head alpha was standing on a platform in the center of the party. He had everyone’s attention within seconds.

“This festival is of high importance. First and foremost, let us welcome spring. You all know spring is a very important and cherished season for us. Courting is in fashion, as you are certainly aware. I hope this season is fruitful for you, and if not, please don’t despair.”

The crowd laughed.

“Secondly, I would like to take a moment to welcome the newest members of our pack—twins Lee Hai and Lee Yoon.”

Jimin couldn’t wait to meet them. He was very popular among the pup population of their pack. He always had a hug or a snack ready for them whenever they passed by his jewelry store.

The head alpha continued his speech, and everybody listened respectfully.

The festivities of the evening carried on. Some mated couples were slow–dancing to a soft love song. Jimin watched them with envy before turning to Hoseok. “I’ll go fill my glass again. Do you want anything?”

“No, I'm good.”

“Okay.”

There was champagne, water, juices of every kind, coffee…

The choice was obvious. Jimin poured himself a cup of coffee—the sixth one of the day. He was aware his coffee consumption would probably kill him before he could get a taste of the real thing, but he couldn’t find it in himself to care.

When he raised the cup to his lips, his ears picked up on a nearby conversation.

“Did you hear? Alpha Jeon Jungkook found an omega for himself.”

“Really? That’s so unfair, I wanted to have a shot!”

“I wonder who the lucky one is.”

“Please, Jeon Jungkook is a dream, he can’t choose just anybody. Maybe it’s omega Yoon. She’s definitely his type.”

Jimin rolled his eyes and moved away from the gossip, choosing to look into the crowd while savoring his black coffee instead. Some people smiled at him when their eyes met. Some nodded their heads as a polite hello. Some didn’t smile or nod at all. He was about to look away when his eyes caught Jeon Jungkook’s gaze.

The son of the head alpha was on the other side of the tent staring at him .

Not knowing what to do, Jimin found himself naturally falling into a full ninety–degree bow. He was shaking, probably due to the insane amount of caffeine he’d ingested.

Or maybe he shook from the effect Jungkook’s gaze had on him.

He didn’t know why. All he knew was that he was suddenly lightheaded, nearly falling face–first into the floor. He quickly grabbed a nearby table to steady himself, then ran off to find his friends, ignoring the little smile on Jungkook’s face.

That was weird. And awkward. Oh my god, that was so awkward. Who bows out of nowhere like that? He’s the son of the head alpha, not the God of the freaking universe.

“We have to go, like right now!” Jimin said as soon as he found Taehyung. He knew his cheeks were flushed, so he lowered his eyes, refusing to meet any of their eyes.

“Did you just bow in the most awkward way to Jeon Jungkook, who was, by the way, standing meters away from you, just because you shared eye contact ?” Taehyung asked, holding back laughter.

“I did. Please pretend it never happened.”

“What did you say earlier?” Taehyung said, circling his arm around Jimin’s shoulder. “That they’re not that scary?”

“They’re intimidating—it’s different. They’re the head family of the pack. The name of our pack is theirs. That’s huge!”

“Right, right. Remind me to tell this story to Hoseok–hyung later.”

“Where is he anyway?” Jimin looked around and found the head alpha’s son’s eyes on him again .

But Jungkook wasn’t smiling or laughing at Jimin. His eyes held a certain curiosity in them, almost like he was—

“Hey, you coming?” Seokjin said, pulling on Jimin’s arm.

“Yeah, yeah. Sorry.”

☼☽︎

Jimin woke up early the following morning with one thing on his mind, and since he had some extra time, he went for a walk.

He enjoyed walking outside when everybody else was still in dreamland. It was quiet then—something that was rare, especially now with the spring courting festival.

It was peaceful, and Jimin seldom allowed himself to be at peace (not that he was in a constant state of agitation, either), but his battered self–esteem didn’t allow his heart to relax, or at least, not to the extent that he wished it would.

He always had tiny doubts, questions, and fears trying to creep their way into his thoughts and ruin things for him. He never let them, but sometimes intrusive thoughts were exhausting .

Thankfully it wasn’t hard to feel good when he was with the alpha. Nothing was hard, ever, with him. He made it so easy for Jimin to feel, to laugh genuinely. From the very first conversation that they had, Jimin had felt like he could trust him. He couldn’t explain it, and he hadn’t been proven wrong so far.

Today was the second before the last of their conversations. The festival was coming to an end. Jimin didn’t know what to expect or if he should expect anything. He had learned to stay on his guard and be careful, but his alpha had broken down every single one of his defenses almost immediately.

“Were you at the party last night?” the alpha asked him.

Jimin thought of his awkward interaction with the head alpha’s son and buried his head in his hands, recalling his shame. “I was. I didn’t stay long, though. I had...something to do. Were you there?”

“Yeah. I was slightly bored, but I got to observe, and,” the alpha paused, “some people there were just endearingly funny,” he laughed.

“Do you enjoy the festivals in general?” Jimin asked.

“I used to when I was a pup. I loved the thrill of doing something out of the ordinary, you know? But lately…it’s becoming more of a chore than entertainment.”

“I know what you mean, though I still see it as some sort of entertainment. An event where we have fun and feel united as a pack or something,” Jimin said and chuckled. “I do know what you mean, though. I feel the same way about my daily life sometimes.”

“Yeah…I think it’s because we don’t have a choice but to do those things. And, though we enjoy them, the choice being taken away from us makes them less enjoyable somehow,” the alpha said thoughtfully.

“The free buffet makes up for things,” Jimin joked, making the alpha laugh. I made him laugh like that.

“Our cooks are very skilled. The juices they made for us were very enjoyable.”

“I was more attracted to the coffee,” Jimin admitted, then he noticed a subtle change in the flavor of the air.

“Coffee in the evening. You really love coffee that much?”

“I think...I think I love it even more these days.”

“You know, it’s been very hard not to think about you,” the alpha said, and Jimin’s breath hitched in the back of his throat. “I think the more we talk, the more I want to know about you. I want you so close to me that it would make a whisper too loud. I want to share things with you. And do what lovers do.”

Jimin didn’t know what to say. It sounded like the alpha reciprocated his feelings.

This wasn’t in his imagination. And even if it was, it was the most beautiful and twisted dream his mind had ever created. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?” Jimin asked, bracing himself for rejection.

“I don’t want to go too fast. I don’t want to make you doubt the trust that you’ve given me. But, yes. Yes, I am.”

“I feel something, too. I…this is all highly confusing. I’m sorry. I just, I can’t believe how wonderful you are and how someone as wonderful as you can appreciate me for me,” Jimin admitted, then he stood up from the couch and approached the wall in front of him. “Can you walk up to the wall, please?”

“I’m in front of the wall.”

If Jimin closed his eyes, he could feel the coffee scent closer to him; he could feel a presence so close to him yet still too far away. “I kinda hate that wall right now.” Jimin laughed, overcome with emotion. “I always thought falling for someone in a month was impossible. So unlikely.”

“I would wrap my arms around you if I could, and if you would let me, I’d love to kiss you. To let you know that all of it—my words, my scent, my feelings…they’re real, and they’re all for you. The second that I acknowledged your scent, your voice, your laughter…I think you were always at the top of my list.”

“You have a list?”

The alpha chuckled warmly. “You’ve always been number one.”

“You’re my only one.”

My only one…I drank your coffee because you couldn’t scent me. I drank your coffee in hopes of tasting you. Would I ever have the guts to admit that to you? How is it possible that I’m head over heels for you?

“Cherry Blossom, can I share something with you?” The alpha’s voice was low, nearly a whisper. As if it were a way to be closer, a way to transcend the wall between them.

“Yes, of course. You can share anything with me.”

“I dreamed of you…of us.”

“You did?” Jimin’s voice was wavering. His soul felt like it was on the verge of being swept away, his body tense with expectation. He expected everything yet nothing because what he was receiving right now was beyond his definition of love. It was blinding and it was paralyzing, and he didn’t want to be set free from it at any moment.

“I dreamed we had a house a little further up the hill on the empty land we just acquired. Maybe it could face the river.”

Jimin closed his eyes, imagining. He could see it too.

“Two pups. Or three, if you want.”

I wouldn’t mind.

“In my dream, we were having fun outside. It was during sunset. You were in the river, where it’s not deep, splashing water on our pups. They’d giggle and tell you to stop, but they actually wanted you to continue.”

“Where were you in this dream?”

“I was sitting on the grass watching you.”

“And what were you thinking while you were watching us?”

“I was thinking…that I wanted it to last forever because my love for you would keep growing, and growing, and growing. I don’t think a lifetime would be enough to contain all the love I would feel for you, for our family.”

A love so deep that it can’t be contained in this universe. A love so moving it can’t be described because it transcends all vocabulary.

A love you build, nurture, and cherish. A mutual love. A blind love. Blind love is only possible if it’s authentic.

Jimin could tell that whatever they were feeling at that moment, love or whatever it’s called, was more than authentic. He couldn’t fake his heart, and neither could the alpha. Their scent was their truth serum. Each word, each emotion, each whisper of their names, all of it was real and honest. He felt it in his core. He felt it so deep that he had let himself become consumed. He didn’t understand it, but he welcomed it like the air in his lungs. He could try to question it, but he knew his heart wouldn’t let him doubt it for one second.

“You know there’s only a few remaining days before the end of the festival,” the alpha said.

“Yes.”

“I have one last gift for you.”

“Alpha…you…you’re too good to me.”

“It’s the least you deserve, Cherry Blossom.”

Jimin opened the cabinet after the alpha had placed the gift inside. He took it out, carefully unrolled it in his hands, and gasped.

It was a beautiful painting depicting the dream.

“You painted this?”

“I did. I couldn’t paint you since I don’t know what you look like…but I know how much you love the sunset. So I painted what could be our future home and the sunset over the mountain with the golden sunlight reflecting off the river.”

“I don’t know what to say. This is—” Jimin couldn’t stop the tears in his eyes from falling, too emotional, too overwhelmed.

“Don’t cry,” the alpha whispered. “Did you make a nest with the blanket and my sweater?”

Jimin sniffled, wiping his eyes. “Yes. Yes, I did.”

“And, after this, would you accept me and let me into your nest so that I may take care of you?”

Yes, in a heartbeat. My nest is yours. My scent is yours. I am yours.

“I wish I could scent you whenever you want,” the alpha said.

“You’ve been on my mind, too. I—” Jimin laughed, thinking about his recent behavior. “I’ve been in a caffeine mood lately. I think—” He paused, unsure of himself.

“What is it, Cherry Blossom?”

“I think…I think I drank coffee so much in hopes of it being yours. I wished and desired to be that close to you. I need you close. I need to touch your skin and feel your breath against my neck.”

“Would you accept me?”

“You make me want to feel desired and be cared for. You make it desirable to be with you. You make me want to let myself feel all these wonderful feelings I grew kind of scared of. And, though it’s hard for me to let go of my fears, I can’t resist you, it seems.”

“It would seem that I can’t resist you, either.”

Jimin’s days at the jewelry store were usually slow. He spent his time creating. But during spring, with the courting festival, it was always busier. And as it came to an end, it was time for that final step.

Alphas, omegas, and betas had come in every day for the past week to either order or pick up an order. Jimin had already made sixteen rings. He always put extra care into the details requested of him, whether a flower or a whole galaxy. He made sure to include it in the tiny jewel one way or another.

Part of him couldn’t help but wonder whether any of the rings would be his.

He made ring after ring. Every time someone pushed the door open to his little store, he hoped to recognize a scent. A scent that he had grown so familiar with that he could hardly imagine himself being deprived of it.

But it was always a beta, an omega, or an alpha that didn’t smell anything like coffee.

Seokjin had made a set of rings for a rainwater scented alpha named Min Yoongi. Jimin loved them so much that he was jealous. The person that would be receiving it was lucky. Seokjin had been given exact instructions. Jimin had watched as he became overwhelmed by all the strict details the alpha had given him. It was a funny sight.

The rings were identical. They were gold— fine gold. Not too thick, not too heavy. They had shapes mimicking leaves on the sides. Elegant. In between the leaves were tiny stones—moonstone and sunstone. White and gold shades intertwined in between a forest. A forest that, Jimin guessed, symbolized their pack.

A big pack with many people, yet against all odds, they had found each other.

Jimin could relate to that. He had found someone special too.

The ‘eclipse’ rings, as Jimin called them, may have been the best jewelry his little shop had ever made since Jimin opened it.

Seokjin was a very skilled jeweler. They had talked about the order for a few nights, gushing over the details, imagining the story attached to them. It was an important ring for someone’s most important person. They needed to be nothing less than perfect.

Now Jimin was storing them in their little wooden box, and as he looked at them one last time, he saw his own story with his alpha. It fitted in every possible way. But he knew the ring was probably not for him, and maybe everything was an illusion…

“Well, well, look who’s pouting while daydreaming. Is something bothering you?” Hyeri said, suddenly in his jewelry shop.

“Oh, hey you! What are you doing here?”

“What do you think I’m doing here?”

“You’re—no way! Are you serious? For real?”

Hyeri only nodded, trying to suppress her smile.

Jimin walked around the store counter with his arms held wide open. “Oh my god, come here.” He was overjoyed but quickly realized he may have jumped to the wrong conclusion. “Wait, it’s Taehyung, right?”

“Of course. It’s always been him.”

“I’m so happy for you guys.” Jimin hugged her tight—probably a little too tight—unable to control his happiness for her and Taehyung.

“Why are you so emotional?” Hyeri chuckled, ruffling his hair.

He slowly released her. “It’s nothing. Seokjin finished those beautiful rings, and I can’t help but wish one was mine, you know?”

“Did you find your second half?”

“I think I have, but…it just feels so surreal. I’m not sure if he likes me completely or the circumstances make it seem more enchanting than it actually is.”

“Did you guys talk about your feelings?”

“We did, I think.”

“You think?”

“Well, we touched on the subject. I didn’t say explicitly, ‘I love you,’ though. And neither did he. Although, he was quite clear in the words he used. I don’t know. I don’t—”

“Jiminie. I know enough about your previous relationship to know that it left you feeling betrayed. Still, you should let yourself love and let yourself be loved. You deserve it. Your heart deserves it. I’m sure if he has stuck with you until now, it’s not without reason.”

“I suppose you’re right. I just…wanna be sure, you know?”

“And you’re right to want that. That’s honorable. But don’t deny yourself the chance to be loved because one dumb alpha dared not love you the right way.”

“There’s so many questions, parameters, and options.” Jimin sighed. “You know, I’m so, so sure about him. My heart, my omega, they’re sure. Yet, I can’t help but be scared.”

“It’s okay. It’s normal. In fact, you feeling this way can only be good.”

“How is it good? I’m so restless, I’m a ball of nerves, and I can hardly function. I just want him close, and I want to look into his eyes and see the honesty. I can feel his honesty in his words, but I need to see it. But I can’t and—”

“Okay, first, you should really cut down on the coffee. Second, it’s good because it means that your heart is in the right place. And I bet you that your alpha is just as overwhelmed. Because this excitement, this thrill, this fear…it can mean only one thing. One feeling that cannot be faked. You can’t fake genuine love.”

“Do you think it’s genuine love? Actual love?”

“I’m positive.”

“How do you know? How can you know?”

“Because I feel it too. It’s unique. Only one who knows what love is can recognize it. I found it with Taehyung, and I think you found it with your alpha.”

Jimin sighed. All this gave him a headache. All because he couldn’t see his alpha. “You’re wise, Hyeri.”

She smiled and shrugged nonchalantly. “I know. Now, I need you to work your magic for me.”

Jimin grabbed his notepad. “Tell me everything.”

☼☽︎

When Jimin needed to clear his mind, there was one place he always went. It was a secluded area of riverbank away from their village, hidden away by dense brush. He had accidentally discovered it when he was a young pup.

The river was shallow there, the current slower. The rocks underneath had been smoothed over time by the water.

Jimin went there after work, needing time to think after his conversation with Hyeri. It was evening, and the sun was beginning to set. The surface of the river was fiery gold.

He sat down next to the water, spotting a small frog. “You don’t have the answers do you?” he asked and received only a croak in return.

The thing is, he had never been so sure about something, about someone, in his entire life. His omega had never been so sure. He ached for the alpha.

I think I want to spend my life with you, Alpha. It’s crazy to feel this way, but you drive me crazy. I want your voice to be the first thing I hear in the morning and the last thing I hear when I fall asleep. I long for you to desire me. I think you desire me. I hope you desire me. I can only dream about it. Is it a dream when you say that you’ll take care of me?

Alpha…my alpha? My alpha. Mine. I like the sound of that.

Jimin wanted to be his.

Does my scent make you delirious? Does the sound of my voice leave you unsettled? Do you think of me this way too?

Jimin closed his eyes, thoughts clouding in a coffee scent that he missed dearly. If he focused enough, he could even smell it, as if it was right behind him—

“Oh sorry, I—”

Jimin’s eyes shot open. It’s him. It’s his voice. He’s right behind me. If I turn around, I’ll see him. He’ll see me. He sees me now. “Alpha,” Jimin whispered as if acknowledging him too loudly would make him disappear.

“Cherry Blossom. It’s you.”

Blame too much caffeine and shock; as Jimin began to turn, he lost his footing, nearly falling into the water.

“Whoa, careful!” the alpha rushed to his side, gently grabbing his arm, pulling him away from the river.

“You’re—” Jeon Jungkook. My alpha is Jeon Jungkook. Out of every single wolf in this pack, Jeon Jungkook, son of the head alpha, is my alpha, my coffee alpha.

For a moment, they both were speechless, only staring at each other, getting lost in each other’s eyes.

“You’re wonderful,” Jungkook finally said, breaking the silence. “Park Jimin.”

“You—you know my name?”

“Only because I’m, well…I’m the son of our head alpha,” Jungkook answered sheepishly.

Jungkook was so much more attractive up close and cute , eyes a deep brown and so round, like a doe, making him appear younger than he was. He was smiling at Jimin, waiting for a response.

“You’re Jeon Jungkook.” Jimin took a step back from him, incapable of looking away, nor could he reconcile that the person in front of him was his alpha. “You’re my coffee alpha.”

“I’m…yes.”

“You—” Jimin stopped, then felt heat rising in his face and his ears growing warm. “Jeon Jungkook. I bowed to you the other day.” Dear God, he saw that.

“I remember.” Jungkook smiled sweetly, then his eyes wandered over Jimin’s body, and he frowned.

“What’s wrong?”

“You’re shaking.”

Jimin looked down at his hand and saw it trembling. He also felt a little lightheaded. “It’s probably because I drank too much coffee,” he admitted.

Jungkook took a tentative step towards him, reaching to gently take hold of his hand. “You should really slow down,” he said softly.

“I…I might need you by my side to be able to.” Jungkook kept staring at him, drinking in his features. It was intense but not uncomfortable. “You’re staring,” Jimin pointed out, smiling.

“I’m sorry. I can’t believe that you’re here right in front of me—that you’re actually real. I was starting to think that I made you up,” Jungkook laughed, then the intensity in his eyes returned. “I’m staring because I’m etching you into my memory. Then when you are away from me, and I am longing for your presence, I will have your image to soothe my loneliness. Someday, soon, I will even paint you.”

Jimin cleared his throat, lowering his eyes. “I’m real, and you’re real. And all of this is real, I promise.” It was almost too much. He started caressing Jungkook’s hand. “How did I look in your imagination?”

“My imagination didn’t even come close to doing you justice.” Jungkook paused. “Can I,” He took a step forward, impossibly closer, then leaned down. “Can I kiss you?” he whispered, breath ghosting against Jimin’s parted lips, sending shivers down his spine. “I really want to kiss you. I need you close. After all this time. Seeing you right now…you’re—”

“Yes.” Jimin squeezed the hand he was holding, trying to keep his knees from weakening, trying not to allow Jungkook’s scent completely take him over. “Yes, you can kiss me.”

Jungkook closed the remaining distance between them, capturing Jimin’s lips in a tender kiss. Everything became clear and made sense—Jungkook’s hand in his, the scent of cherry blossoms blending beautifully with coffee beans, their lips dancing to a song that matched the rhythm of their heartbeats.

Jimin let himself get lost in it. Jungkook’s arms were across his waist, holding him close. It was chaste. Gentle. Soft. Too short. Jungkook left his lips to nuzzle his neck, running his nose and mouth just barely over Jimin’s scent gland, teasing, leaving him wanting. His skin felt like it was on fire. Never. It’s never felt like this. You’re barely touching me, and I feel like I’m going to combust.

Jungkook pulled away, making Jimin whine. “I wish I could properly scent you,” he said, like it was his biggest regret, like the thought of not being able to scent Jimin right then made him angry.

I’m yours, let them know, scent me. Please. Jimin lost his balance ever so slightly, too overwhelmed, but Jungkook tightened his grip, securing him. “I’ll switch to decaf,” Jimin said, eliciting the most wonderful laugh from Jungkook.

Jungkook was about to reply when a howl pierced through the forest. “I have to go.”

“What? But—”

“It’s my father. He needs me.” Jungkook began stepping away from him, and Jimin felt like his heart would carve itself right out of his chest and follow him. He didn’t want to let Jungkook go, but he knew they would see each other again.

“Tomorrow, in our cabin. We’ll talk,” Jungkook said and gave Jimin one final hug.

His arms felt like home . “Can you give me your sweater? Your scent is wearing off on the first one you gave me.”

Jungkook immediately took off his sweater, ensuring he brushed it against his scent glands thoroughly before handing it to Jimin.

In his desire for the sweater, Jimin didn’t realize that it would mean that Jungkook would be shirtless. Jeon Jungkook, his alpha, with the coffee scent that he adores, was standing shirtless in front of him.

“You’re staring,” Jungkook told him with a smirk, but Jimin could see a light dusting of pink across his cheeks.

“Thank you.” Jimin gave him a chaste kiss on one of his blushed cheeks. “Now go. Your father needs you.”

☼☽︎

Jungkook ran towards the village, feeling more alive than he ever had.

He hated having to leave Jimin so unexpectedly. But he did have duties, considering who his family was. Time seemed to slow ever since he started talking to the omega. And now that he saw him, his Cherry Blossom, his Jimin, he couldn’t wait.

“Jungkook!”

Namjoon was running towards him, also responding to his father’s call. When he reached Jungkook he asked, “What’s going on?”

“I don’t know.”

“Why are you shirtless?” He sniffed the air around Jungkook. “You smell a little sweet too.”

“Oh. I fell in the river.”

Namjoon looked him up and down, and Jungkook realized that he was completely dry. Laughing at him with his dimples showing, Namjoon said, “You’re the worst liar.”

They entered his home and were greeted by his parents, a dozen hunters, and two other pack leaders.

“Is everything alright?” Jungkook turned to his father.

“Yes,” his father said, and when Jungkook approached him, he noticed his nose twitching. He had probably picked up the faint undertones of cherry blossoms in Jungkook’s strong coffee scent. Everyone in the room could smell their mixed scents.

Clearing his throat, his father sent a look to Jungkook that meant, ‘ We’ll talk later, and you better have a good explanation.’

Jungkook always had a good explanation; he hoped this one would be good enough.

“Pack leader Yoon and pack leader Kim have informed us about some feral wolves that got lost in the forest.”

“Feral wolves? What happened to them?”

“It’s nothing to worry about,” pack leader Kim assured. “They aren’t a threat unless provoked. They are mostly scared.”

“Why?” Jungkook wondered.

“Their pup is severely sick.”

Jungkook’s heart sank at the thought of a sick pup and parents losing their child.

“What can we do?”

“They approached our pack last night and frightened two young betas,” pack leader Yoon explained. “Our packs are close. Yours is further, but since we don’t know where they are, they could be near your territory by now.”

“We’ll send our strongest alphas to secure the area. They’ll search for them and bring them back to you. We can also send you our healers to help this family,” Jungkook’s father announced.

“We appreciate it. Thank you.” They bowed and then left his father’s home.

“Jungkook, gather the most skilled alphas. Twenty of you. You’ll secure the area and look for the feral wolves. If one of you finds them, gather around them and help each other as the united pack that you are. Alpha Yoon, Alpha Kim, I encourage you to do the same. Be extremely careful. Feral wolves are as dangerous as they are unpredictable. One wrong move, and it could be over for you.”

“Understood.”

“Go now before it’s too dark.”

Jungkook was about to follow everybody out when his father stopped him.

“Jungkook. Come here for a second.”

His father was not a threatening man, at least never towards his family. He was kind, and he taught Jungkook to be kind.

But he knew how to have the most intimidating aura at times.

“How is the courting festival going?”

“It’s going good.”

“Your mom told me about the omega that you’ve been courting. I’d love to talk about it with you.”

“I promise I’m careful. I didn’t—”

The Head Alpha held his hand up, stopping the apparent panic Jungkook was uselessly throwing himself into. “Calm down, Jungkook–ah. I just want my son to open up to me.”

“Oh.”

“You seem happy…happier. I take it the omega is the cause of it?”

“I think so.”

“I’d love to hear all about it.” His father squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. “I’m the head alpha, but I’m your father first and foremost. Don’t be afraid to confide in me, understood?”

“Yes, Father.”

“Okay. Now go join the others. They need you.”

Jungkook embraced his father, grateful for having such wonderful parents. “Thank you.” He went to his mom and hugged her just as emotionally. “Thank you, to both of you, for being such amazing parents.”

☼☽︎

Their joint effort made it easy to locate the two parents, and everyone was able to return several hours later. Healers from the Jeon pack and the Yoon pack were sent to the Kim pack to assist.

Now Jungkook was on his way to bed after a much–needed warm shower. Only one person remained in his mind. Only one scent was enveloping his heart. A scent that wasn’t his own anymore.

Park Jimin.

Cherry Blossom.

You were glowing.

That night, Jungkook saw his dream completed. He saw Jimin and not just a blurred image his mind had tried to conjure. He saw Jimin, and he saw himself. He saw them.

Us.

Jungkook felt everything he had felt in his first dream, multiplied by infinity and beyond.

Beyond the sun, beyond the moon, and beyond any stars.

He saw the simple life he had always dreamed of. A simple life that was now attainable. It was right there for him to catch, to claim, to take.

Jimin was his wonderful simple life. Jimin was his home. The home he had always wanted for himself.

Park Jimin. Omega. Cherry Blossom. My omega.

Mine.

Mine to love. Mine to care for. Mine to comfort. Mine to bring happiness to. Mine to live with. Mine to die for. Mine to die with.

☼☽︎

Jungkook stepped into the kitchen to pour himself a cup of coffee. “Good morning, father.”

“Someone is happy on this early spring day.”

He was looking at his mug with a smile on his face. He didn’t know why or where it came from, but he felt tears of joy suddenly running down his cheeks.

“Jungkook?” His father approached him, apprehensive. “Are you alright?”

“I didn’t know it felt like this,” Jungkook laughed between his tears.

His father was staring at him, confused. “What exactly?”

“Happiness. Love. Knowing what I want. Knowing where I’m heading. My destiny. Peace .”

“I assume you made your choice.” His father smiled and lowered his head down a little, trying to capture Jungkook’s lowered eyes with his own. When Jungkook met his father’s eyes, he said, “It’s him, isn’t it? The omega.”

Jungkook nodded, biting his lower lip. “It’s him. It was him the second I smelled his scent.”

“You are sure?”

“He’s wonderful, Father.” Jungkook looked up at his father, eyes shining. “I want him to be my mate. And—” he took a deep breath “—I don’t want to be the next head alpha when the time comes.”

His father sighed, then embraced him in a tight hug. “I know, son. And I’m so proud of you for it.”

“You’re proud?”

“Yes. You’re staying true to yourself. That’s admirable.”

“Aren’t you disappointed?”

“Never in my entire life have I ever been or will I ever be disappointed in you. Especially not for something like this. What matters most is your happiness.”

Jungkook wiped his face dry. “Did I show you the rings I ordered?”

“You didn’t.”

“Oh, let me go grab them. They’re perfect.” Jungkook excitedly ran to his bedroom, then returned, running back into the kitchen with the rings within seconds. “Look!” He handed him the little wooden box.

His father opened it and took the rings out, placing them in his hand to look at closely. “Moonstone and sunstone?”

“It represents us. And the leaves represent our forest. I know it probably doesn’t make much sense to you, but he’ll understand.”

At least Jungkook hoped he would.

“I don’t need to understand it to see your feelings for him. I think these rings are perfect. They’re stunning. Do you know who made them?”

“I don’t. Yoongi ordered them for me.”

“Are you ready? This is a big step.”

“I am.” Jungkook had never been more sure of anything in his life.

“When are you leaving?”

“After a shower and a pep talk to myself.” Jungkook chuckled.

“I’m happy for you, Jungkook. This is all I could have wished for you, my son. Your happiness, whatever that may be. Head alpha or not.”

“Thank you, Father. I’m so lucky to be your son. Me and Jungwoo, we’re lucky to have you and mom.”

“You should go get ready now. It’s a big day today. We’ll celebrate tonight, just the four of us.”

“He didn’t say yes yet.”

“He’d be crazy not to.”

☼☽︎

He had been waiting for Jimin for the past ten minutes. He had arrived earlier than they usually met. However, Jungkook couldn’t stay still and just wait, so he thought waiting in the cabin would make it easier on his nerves.

It didn’t.

It’s not that he was nervous about Jimin saying no or anything like that. He was nervous because it would be the first time he had ever done something so personal. He wanted his words to be worthy of Jimin.

As soon as Jungkook heard Jimin step foot in the cabin, he stood up. There was no way he could remain seated.

“Hello.” Jimin’s beautiful voice resonated in the cabin.

“Hey, you.”

“You sound nervous. Is everything okay?”

“Yes,” Jungkook hurriedly assured. “How are you?”

“I’m good. I didn’t sleep much.”

“Me neither.”

“So, I guess we should talk about what happened yesterday.”

“I think so.” Jungkook cleared his throat. “I really—”

“I think it was—”

“Go ahead, Cherry Blossom,” Jungkook urged him.

“Okay.” Jimin paused. “Sooo…we met.”

“Yes.”

“We kissed.”

“Yes.”

“You gave me your sweater, which I’m wearing, by the way.”

A vision of Jimin wearing it entered his mind. If he closed his eyes, he could picture the sweater’s sleeves too long, creating sweater paws, and how Jimin would look small in it but so, so beautiful. The thought of Jimin wearing his clothes did something to him. Made him want to kiss him senseless. “I bet you’re beautiful in it,” Jungkook said.

“Don’t make me blush. I’m not done yet.” Jimin let out a series of giggles that made Jungkook smile.

“Sorry, Cherry Blossom.”

“I like you. A lot. I may even dare to say it’s love. Actual love. And I’ll be honest with you, Jungkook, I find it so scary. But it’s not a fear that will make me turn around and run away as fast as possible. It’s a fear that I want to explore. It’s a fear that I want to fall into a little more each day.”

Jungkook found himself a little breathless. His feelings were reciprocated. At that moment, he couldn’t decide if that was the happiest moment of his life or the day he saw Jimin in front of him, the kiss they shared, or any conversation they had. Perhaps Jimin was the happiest moment of his life. “I feel the same way,” he said.

“You do?”

“Yes. When I first inhaled your scent, I felt instantly curious and attracted to it somehow. I’ve never felt that way before about anyone. And then, I heard your voice. Your sweet voice. It’s been my favorite melody since your first ‘hello’ until now. The more we talked, the more I started falling for you. I didn’t even realize it; it just happened. And then yesterday, I saw you.” Jungook paused. “I saw you, and I saw my destiny. You’re my destiny, Park Jimin, I’m sure of it. I want to spend every second with you. I don’t care if we do anything. Being by your side will be enough for me.”

He could hear Jimin sniffling on the other side.

There was only one thing left for him to ask.

“Cherry Blossom, I promise to love and cherish you forever. Will you claim me as your mate and make me yours?”

“I would love nothing more.”

☼☽︎

One month. All it took was one month for Jimin to believe in love again. One month to prove himself wrong.

Jimin had fallen in love blindly. He wanted to laugh at himself for ever doubting his ability to truly feel it.

He had learned how to love and how to be loved.

Jungkook taught him that being loved means your mate will pay attention to you. Your mate will care for you in subtle ways.

Jimin learned that loving someone meant trusting them. You trust that person with your life. Loving someone also means being able to say anything and everything that goes through your mind—without shame, prejudice, or fear of being misunderstood.

He always wondered how he would know. How it’d be possible to know, to be sure. Turns out he didn’t need to know how…he just knew.

He knew because of the butterflies in his stomach each time Jungkook was around, each time he talked to him, each time he called him Cherry Blossom.

He knew because he missed him at night, in the morning, or whenever he wasn’t in that cabin. He knew because he wanted to cry with joy and sadness.

He knew because his wolf squirmed inside him in happiness and possessiveness due to the amount of love and affection he felt for Jungkook.

He knew because his soul was moved to unimaginable extents when he stared into Jungkook’s eyes. When Jungkook asked him to be his mate, all he could do was say yes and cry, not because he was sad, but because he was overwhelmingly infatuated.

Today was the closing ceremony of the courting festival. All of the couples would be announced in front of a crowd filled with their family and friends.

Jimin was both excited and nervous. It wasn’t the same kind of nervousness that he felt at the beginning of this journey. No. It was the bright kind. The kind you grow addicted to.

Jimin and Taehyung had talked all night about their experience in this season’s festival. Taehyung and Hyeri were also going to mate. Taehyung told Jimin all about how he and Hyeri asked the question simultaneously and how Hyeri had proceeded to scold Taehyung for ruining the moment. A debate ensued about who actually ruined the moment, only for them to finally confess their love for one another. Jimin thought there was no better fitting pair than Hyeri and Taehyung. They were meant to be.

If he thought about Jungkook and himself, he couldn’t picture it any other way. He couldn’t picture Jungkook with someone else. Not out of jealousy or anything like that. It just didn’t make sense. And if he pictured himself with someone other than Jungkook, it wasn’t right.

They arrived at the ceremony on time today. The participants were divided by rank into three different tents.

Taehyung and Jimin were walking towards the yellow–decorated tent when Jimin decided to see if he could find Jungkook before it started.

“You go ahead. I think I forgot something at home.”

“Oh. I can go and get it for you.”

Jimin held up his hands. “No, it’s okay, don’t worry.”

“Well, be quick. It’ll start soon.”

“I’ll run.”

Jimin waited for Taehyung to go inside the omega tent before cautiously proceeding towards the alpha’s one. He stopped just outside of it and looked around to see if anyone would notice what he was up to. When he saw that no one was paying attention to him, he discreetly poked his head inside.

It didn’t take long until his eyes found Jungkook.

Their eyes only met briefly, as Jimin wasn’t supposed to be near the alpha tent and definitely wasn’t supposed to be looking inside it. Still, it was enough time for Jungkook to wink at him, leaving him blushing and with a big smile.

Before departing, he waved in a slight movement to not bring any attention to himself. Jungkook returned it with a smile, and then Jimin hastily made his way back to the omega tent.

When he entered it, he was met with beautiful decorations and a small buffet, probably to ease everybody’s nerves before the start of the festivities.

“Hey, you were fast. Did you teleport?” Taehyung asked, clearly confused.

“False alarm, I have everything.”

“Hmmm… I’ll keep an eye on you, Park Jimin. You’re acting suspiciously.”

Eager to change the subject, Jimin gestured to the buffet area. “Is that coffee?”

“Woah, no coffee for you!” Taehyung quickly maneuvered himself in front of Jimin, blocking his path.

Jimin stared at him in disbelief. “Is this an intervention or something?”

The omega looked at him with an unimpressed expression, refusing to move.

“I didn’t drink that much coffee today,” Jimin argued, pouting.

Taehyung’s face softened, then he said, “Look, you’ll be with your alpha whenever you want as soon as the mates are revealed. Can’t you wait a few hours? Then you’ll get to taste all the coffee you want and then some. I don’t want you to have a heart attack just because you couldn’t resist one cup of coffee.”

“Ugh, fine!” Jimin relented, throwing his hands up in the air. “Champagne, then. Can I have champagne, or is that prohibited too?”

“Bring me one glass, too, please.”

Jimin rolled his eyes and then made his way towards the glasses of champagne, grumbling the entire way. He would never admit it, but he knew Taehyung was right. Too much coffee wasn’t good for him. Besides, he would be spending the entire evening and every day after with Jungkook. Still, time better hurry up.

After retrieving several glasses of champagne without incident, Jimin returned to Taehyung’s side to drink and make small talk before the ceremony started.

They were having a very animated argument about dumplings when Jimin saw head omega Jeon entering the tent.

“Oh my God, hide me!” Trying to shield himself from Jungkook’s mother, Jimin quickly hid behind Taehyung.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

“Hiding from her! Quit moving!”

“Why?”

“Shush, she’ll notice us!”

“You make absolutely no sense. Will you stop!” Taehyung was busy trying to pry himself away from Jimin’s hands when she began approaching them.

Jimin let go of Taehyung before he made a fool of himself, and when her head turned towards him, Jimin’s eyes widened. There’s no way she knows who I am, right? Unless Jungkook told her my scent…which he most likely did because he’s close to his parents.

She stopped in front of him, and the sides of her mouth lifted into a soft smile. Jimin recognized that smile and those eyes. Jungkook emulated his mother. The familiarity was as comforting as it was unnerving. “Omega Park, is that right?”

Even with her kind eyes, she still exuded authority. Jimin could only nod in response.

“Cherry blossoms?”

“Yes,” Jimin answered.

She gave him a knowing look. “Cherry blossoms are wonderful. You should relax a little. You’ll be fine. I promise.” Jimin saw beyond her words: we already accept you to be Jungkook’s mate. We know all about you. Rest assured.

Jimin bowed to her in respect. “Thank you.”

Then she walked off towards the middle of the tent, and Jimin exhaled in relief.

“What was that about?”

Jimin nearly jumped out of his skin. He forgot Taehyung was still there. “She told me to relax,” he said nonchalantly, picking at a hangnail.

“No, no. I’m talking about you panicking and hiding as if you committed a shameful crime.”

“She’s a scary woman. We established that.”

“No. Hoseokie–hyung established that, not me.” Taehyung narrowed his eyes at Jimin, then said, “You’re hiding important information from your soulmate.”

Jimin sighed. He hated keeping secrets from Taehyung. “Fine, but promise me you won’t say a single word about it until after the official meeting.”

“Just tell me already, please.”

“Promise me.”

“I promise.”

“I know who my alpha is.”

“I knew it!” Taehyung exclaimed. “Who is it?”

“Jeon Jungkook.”

“H—”

Jimin quickly slapped his hand over Taehyung’s mouth. “Not a single word, Tae! I’ll tell you everything later. I don’t want him or me to get in trouble.” He waited for Taehyung to nod, showing that he understood, then lowered his hand.

Taehyung immediately pulled him into a hug. “I’m so happy for you, Jimin. I’m so proud of you. Seeing you happy with someone, whoever it is, it’s the best thing in the world.”

Jimin smiled against his chest. “Thank you, Tae,” he whispered, finally feeling like things would be okay.

☼☽︎

The ceremony lasted a lot longer than Jimin had anticipated. Jungkook’s father had opened it with a speech and welcomed everyone who came. Mated couples from previous years were then invited up onto the stage to share their experiences with the crowd. He had to wait patiently in the omega tent and listen to their stories. He’d wondered whether he and Jungkook would someday be up there sharing their own story.

Eventually, it was time for the couples from the current year’s game to be announced. The participants were informed that when they heard their name, they were to exit their tent and walk up to the stage where they would meet their chosen person and be allowed to give or receive a promise ring.

Jimin waited through so many names. They seemed endless. Every time Jungkook’s father would get ready to announce a new pair, he was sure he would hear either his name or Jungkooks. When he finally complained about the wait to another omega, he learned that couples were called out by the order they had found each other.

That was how he learned that he and Jungkook were the last couple of the festival because he ended up being the final omega in the tent.

Jimin was anxious, and he was trying to calm his nerves. He knew that his name was next, and he would be walking out in front of everyone and ‘officially’ meeting Jungkook. I wish he could scent me right now. That would h—

“And last but not least, I am very proud and very excited to welcome my eldest son to the stage. Jeon Jungkook.”

Jimin stood and wiped his clammy hands on his pants, waiting for his name to be called. His heart was beating so fast that it felt like he was minutes away from having a heart attack, and this time it wasn’t caused by caffeine.

He needed to calm down, or he wasn’t even going to make it out of the tent.

“Please, welcome his mate, Park Jimin,” he heard Jungkook’s father say.

Then the head omega opened the tent and motioned for Jimin to follow her.

When he exited the tent, everyone’s eyes were on him.

As he followed the head omega, he noticed that some people were whispering, some were crying, but most were smiling at him. She directed him towards the aisle down the middle and gave him a reassuring smile.

He knew that if he looked up now, he would see Jungkook at the end, waiting for him. Inhale. Exhale.

He raised his head and met his alpha’s eyes.

Jungkook was staring at him with a passion one could only dream of receiving.

It made him instantly feel calmer. He began walking towards Jungkook, eager to hold his hand, wanting to look him in the eyes and talk to him face to face, without a wall or any kind of distance.

Jungkook started chuckling when he noticed Jimin speeding up towards him and extended his hand for Jimin to take when they reached each other.

“Hey you,” Jungkook whispered as he helped him up the last few steps and kissed his cheek.

Jimin only had eyes for Jungkook. He forgot about the entire pack staring at them, the other couples on either side of the stage, and even the head alpha standing next to them.

There was only Jungkook.

“Jeon Jungkook. Park Jimin.” The head alpha paused. “You have chosen each other as mates. In the tradition of this festival, I will let you share your rings.”

A mated couple from last spring’s festival approached them with a little wooden box containing their rings.

“Jungkook, you may start.”

Jungkook opened the box, and as soon as Jimin saw the ring presented to him, he wanted to scream with joy and kiss Jungkook.

It was the eclipse ring.

“Cherry Blossom, may I have your hand?”

Jimin extended his hand to Jungkook, biting his lip to suppress his smile. He tried very hard, but he couldn’t contain it.

When Jungkook slid the ring onto his finger, Jimin looked at his hand in awe. He couldn’t believe it. But it was real. He was Jungkook’s. Jungkook was about to be his.

Jimin took the second ring and slid it onto Jungkook’s ring finger. “It’s so beautiful on you,” he said mindlessly, not thinking about where they were. There was only Jungkook.

“You may join the other couples,” the head alpha said with a proud smile on his face that was directed at his son. “Jeon Pack! It is with great pride and joy that I present to you this spring’s new couples. Let’s celebrate!”

Their hands with the rings on them found each other.

The party had been going on for a few hours now. Jimin started to feel this pull in him, this desire . Not any desire. Not like one would desire a sinfully delicious cake or an exquisite red wine. It was more of a deep desire nestled deep within his soul. His wolf instincts took over some of his senses, clouding his independence.

Jimin could tell that Jungkook felt the same way as him. He held his hand tighter whenever Jimin initiated handholding. His lips would approach Jimin’s neck if he leaned in too close. And his fingers frequently wandered over Jimin’s lower back near the hem of his blouse.

There were also little details about Jungkook that Jimin quickly caught on to, and he realized how easy it was to read him.

Jungkook laughed easily. He was goofy at times. He was attentive and frequently asked Jimin if he needed anything. He was polite and greeted everybody with a smile. He seemed to get along with everyone, and Jimin was relieved to see that he immediately got along with his friends. They’d warmed up to each other as if they’d known each other for years.

And Jungkook loved food. Jimin knew that already, but he witnessed it now with every excited hum of approval Jungkook gave when he spotted something he liked.

They were walking to the buffet to grab some more food. Hoseok was already there.

“Hyung,” Jimin called out to him.

“Oh, Jiminie!” Hoseok looked up from the buffet towards them. “Jeon Jungkook,” he said in a more severe tone, ready to bow.

Jimin burst out laughing at his friend.

“You don’t need to bow to me every time we see each other, Hoseok–ssi,” Jungkook said, smiling at Hoseok.

“Okay. You’re intimidating, but I like you. You make him happy.”

“I hope I do. He makes me happy.”

Jimin pecked Jungkook on the jaw with his lips, then turned back to the buffet quickly, “I’m so hungry.”

“Aish!” Hoseok complained to himself, trying to separate two perilla leaves. “Whoever made these. Seriously, this is infuriating.”

“Wait, let me help you.” Jimin moved to help Hoseok, but a hand stopped him. He turned around and found Jungkook pouting. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t want you to do that.”

“Oh? Why not?”

“I don’t want you to help Hoseok–ssi or anyone else separate perilla leaves. Because... Because you’ll peel off the perilla leaf, then the next thing you know, you’re both holding hands, and you’ll fall in love and replace me with him,” Jungkook said quickly.

Hoseok looked at Jungkook incredulously, then cleared his throat. “Why can’t my friend help me? I want my perilla leaf. What if he’s the only one around?”

“I don’t know. You figure it out!”

Jungkook was clearly upset with the idea of him helping someone separate perilla leaves, so Jimin comforted him by snuggling up to his side with a hand on his chest.

“Calm down, sheesh,” Hoseok told Jungkook, taking a step back with his hands held up. “You don’t need to worry about Jimin leaving you, Jungkook. I’ve known him for a long time, and I’ve never seen him look at someone the way he looks at you. That and I have my eyes set on someone else.”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Jimin. I don’t know what came over me. I’m not trying to control you or anything, I promise. It’s just that I feel like happiness is finally a possibility with you in my life now. I just got you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. The thought of losing you is...incomprehensible.”

“Hey. It’s okay, Jungkook. If I’m being honest with myself...I kind of liked it.”

“And, I’m out.” Hoseok turned and quickly left them to go join Taehyung and Hyeri.

Jimin watched his friend leave before turning his attention to Jungkook. “So... you’re the possessive type, huh?”

“Do you still like me?”

“Oh, I must’ve misheard that.” Jimin shook his head, scooting closer to his alpha. “I couldn’t replace you. Not now, not ever. Remember what I said in the cabin?”

“You said I’m your only one.”

“You are my only one. Now and forever.”

Jungkook put his hand on top of Jimin’s, still on his chest, and said, “Follow me.”

He turned then and started guiding Jimin away from the party area. The fairy lights and noise from the party slowly faded with each step they took until it was a pleasant hum in the background. Jungkook led him to a small pond a few meters away.

They stopped when they reached the water. The moon was reflecting off the surface of the pond. The breeze was fresh but not uncomfortable. The sounds of nature surrounding them brought comfort. It was peaceful and felt like a pause in this intense but wonderful night. Jimin could feel himself finally cooling down from the many feelings and nerves the party had brought on him. He noticed that Jungkook was calmer as well.

Jimin was busy looking down at their intertwined hands—neither wanting to let go—when the soft music in the background shifted into a slow melody.

“May I have this dance, Park Jimin?”

“Yes.”

They turned to face each other, and Jungkook reached for Jimin’s other hand, smiling at him with a fondness that Jimin knew mirrored his own. The night may have been hiding their blushes from each other, but their scents were betraying their feelings, emphasizing the butterflies Jimin could feel fluttering around inside him.

Jungkook moved Jimin’s left hand to rest on his right shoulder, then placed his right hand on Jimin’s waist. They shifted closer together, chests nearly touching.

No words were needed. They moved slowly together, their hearts in sync, their movements coordinated, their feelings intertwined harmoniously.

Jungkook naturally led, and Jimin couldn’t help but feel shy under his intense gaze. He buried his face in Jungkook’s shoulder, making his alpha chuckle fondly.

While they danced, Jimin was able to pick out a few lyrics from the song.

I’m nothing without your love

I promise I’ll never leave your love

My heart is beating ’cause of you

Forever and ever and ever

Only you can take my heart

Dear my love love love

I wanna stay with you...

They basked at the moment for the entirety of the song. Close, silent, comfortable. Jimin felt like he was home in Jungkook’s hold, by his side, whenever they talked.

When the music ended, they pulled apart a little and stared at each other. “I love you,” Jimin blurted. His eyes widened when he realized he had said it aloud. But he didn’t regret it because he meant it like he had never meant anything else before.

‘I love you.’ Those words pronounced to Jungkook, for Jungkook, were the most honest words Jimin had ever said or felt.

Jungkook’s doe eyes widened. “You…you just said that.” Jimin saw surprise and happiness on his face. There was a smile brighter than any star that he tried to conceal by biting on his bottom lip.

“I did.” Jimin brushed his thumb softly against Jungkook’s bottom lip, not wanting him to hurt himself.

“You really love me?”

“I do.” Jimin wrapped his hand behind Jungkook’s neck. “I love everything about you, every quirk, every flaw, every detail, every quality, every trait of your being. I’m totally head over heels for you.”

My cherry blossom.” Jungkook caressed his cheek before kissing him like he’s never been kissed before. It knocked the air out of his lungs, made him weak in the knees. “I love you too”.

They continued to dance together, under the stars, with fairy lights and hearts beating in love.

☼☽︎

The closing festivities were coming to an end. Jimin and Jungkook had spent the evening glued together, neither willing to part since the second they were face to face, exchanging rings.

Jimin sat next to Jungkook under the moonlight. They were staring at the moon silently, enjoying each other’s company. Next to them, Hoseok, Yoongi, and Seokjin were discussing the future and what it may hold, while Taehyung was talking animatedly with Hyeri and Namjoon about the best way to enjoy champagne.

“I’m so happy, Jungkook,” Jimin said under his breath, head resting on the alpha’s chest, half asleep and purring in his arms shamelessly. He didn’t know how it was possible, but he felt himself falling a little more for Jungkook at each passing second.

“If you keep purring every time you’re content, I will have to start calling you Kitten instead of Cherry Blossom,” Jungkook whispered.

He looked up to meet Jungkook’s eyes. The stars seemed to reflect in them. Jimin kissed his chin before resuming his nuzzling, purring a little louder while he did. “I know you’re pleased to make me purr,” Jimin told him, smiling.

After a few minutes, he looked up again, and Jungkook kissed him softly.

“I’m happy too,” Jungkook said before kissing him lazily. His hand was in Jimin’s hair, making him feel as relaxed and nearly on the verge of falling asleep. “Should I carry you home, Cherry Blossom?” he asked softly.

“No, I want to stay with you.”

“I’m not leaving your side anytime soon, don’t you worry,” Jungkook chuckled. “But a bed might be more comfortable, don’t you think?”

“You’re plenty comfortable,” Jimin said, grabbing Jungkook’s hand to kiss his knuckles. Jungkook kissed the top of his head. Jimin wanted this moment to last for as long as life would let him. He nuzzled a little more against Jungkook. “Let’s stay here a little longer. The night is pretty.”

“Okay.”

Jungkook circled his arms around Jimin’s torso and started placing soft kisses on his shoulder, neck, and ear, making his skin tingle. “That tickles.”

“Mmh, does it?” Jungkook repeated the action, making Jimin laugh louder.

“Yes.”

“How about this?” Jungkook proceeded to kiss Jimin behind his ear, making him flinch at the contact. “Oh, I’m sorry.”

“No, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just….” Jimin felt himself grow a little heated, cheeks blushing.

“You don’t have to tell me if—” Jungkook’s voice trailed off as he picked up the change in Jimin’s scent.

Their eyes met briefly before Jimin had to avert his gaze.

“What happens if I continue?” Jungkook asked softly.

“I don’t know.”

“Can I?”

Turning around to face Jungkook fully, Jimin nodded. He saw his future mate and thought he was the most beautiful being he had ever seen. Jimin wanted Jungkook to know the effect he had on him. He wanted Jungkook to know how good he smelled, how good his kisses felt, how good he was. And he also wanted to know how deep the effect could be felt.

Jungkook kissed him then again behind his ear, causing Jimin to let out a breath of pleasure, almost too suggestive, too explicit. “Scent me,” he heard himself say.

“What?”

“I’ve been craving to smell like you ever since…well, the first day.” Jimin paused, debating whether he should ask what he wanted to ask. “Would you like to go home with me tonight?”

“I would love to. More than anything. Yes.”

They said good night to their friends and family and headed towards Jimin’s house. Sloppy kisses, laughter, more kisses, nuzzles, whisperings of sweet nothings, teasings, and more kisses made getting to Jimin’s home take longer than it usually would.

When they eventually reached Jimin’s front door, their impatience was growing. The desire to be close, to feel connected. To feel in love. Jimin was in love, but he wanted more than love. He needed something more profound, more intimate. Something so pure, raw, and natural that it can only come from passionate tenderness.

They entered Jimin’s place. “Welcome,” he said.

“Your house is beautiful.”

“Thanks.”

As they stood facing each other, time seemed to stop. They held each other’s gaze until Jimin finally said, “Can I show you something?”

“Of course.”

“Come with me.” Jimin extended his hand for Jungkook to take, then led him to his room. When they entered, Jungkook got to see the nest he’d made out of the things that Jungkook had gifted him.

The fairy lights were on, strung neatly around his room. The blanket and the first sweater Jungkook had given him were displayed on his bed. Neatly folded next to it was the second sweater.

He looked over his shoulder and caught a strong emotion openly displayed on Jungkook’s face. Are you, too, realizing it was all real? We didn’t imagine any of it. We didn’t make up our infatuation, our love.

“Will you let me take care of you in your nest?” Jungkook asked, approaching Jimin and back hugging him.

“Yes, please.” Jimin turned around, facing Jungkook. “Scent me. Kiss me. Hold me close and show me how much you love me,” he whispered, lips millimeters away from touching. His words were urgent, yet none of his actions were rushed.

Jungkook placed his hands at the nape of Jimin’s neck. His touches were so gentle that Jimin felt himself unraveling. He let his body be pulled flush against Jungkook’s. Their lust was evident, both in their scents and their bodies. Jimin felt Jungkook’s hardness, and he knew his could be felt too. At that moment, he realized he craved such naked vulnerability.

Jimin slowly walked them towards his bed, then he laid down while pulling Jungkook down on top of him, between his legs. He brushed Jungkook’s hair out of his eyes and behind his ear, smiling when Jungkook nuzzled in his touch, leaving a little kiss in his palm. “You’re enchanting, Jungkook,” he said.

Jungkook seemed to melt a little at those words, and Jimin swore he could feel Jungkook’s heart beating a little faster— or is it mine? Ours?

Jimin wanted to feel this again, this ticklish sensation of being loved the right way for the right reasons, but multiplied by a billion in infinity.

Jungkook leaned down to kiss him again. It was deeper, more passionate. Jimin’s hands trailed down Jungkook’s waist to untuck his shirt. His hands met Jungkook’s skin, making the alpha shiver at the contact.

Jungkook let his weight fall on Jimin a little more, though still careful to not crush him completely. He slipped one hand under Jimin’s blouse, laying it flat where his heart was, feeling its rhythm. Regular impatience. Just like his.

Jungkook trailed kisses down Jimin’s jaw to his neck. Kissing every inch of his skin. Jimin felt cherished, savored. Jungkook proceeded to scent him.

Jimin had waited for this moment for so long. The coffee scent flooded his being like tidal waves. One after the other, they crashed on the shore of his heart, each drop of coffee enveloping his cherry blossom petals.

Jungkook kissed his neck, his collarbone, his chest. Jimin’s fingers were in Jungkook’s hair the entire time. Jungkook seemed to react to every breath of his, each shudder, each sound was in sync with their growing desires.

The room was engulfed in their eagerness. Cherry blossoms became the sweetest syrup, and coffee turned into sinful deliciousness.

“Alpha,” Jimin breathed out, lifting his hips into Jungkook’s, making him groan in his lust.

“Off, off,” Jungkook whispered sweetly, helping Jimin sit up so he could take his shirt off. Jungkook took his own shirt off and helped Jimin out of his pants. Soon after, they were both naked.

Jungkook trailed his fingers on Jimin’s moon tattoo behind his neck. Jimin admired the sun tattooed on Jungkook’s arm.

You are me…I am you.

“Beautiful. You’re wonderful, Jimin.”

They admired each other, fingers tracing each curve of their muscles, their bones, each detail. Jimin circled his arms around his waist.

He trailed kisses all the way up to Jungkook’s lips. “I don’t know if I’ll ever get enough of you, Jungkook.”

Jungkook smiled into the kiss, “It’s okay. I don’t think I want you to anyway.” Jimin’s discreet moans were as satisfying as cold water flowing down one’s throat on a hot day, a hot coffee on a rainy autumn day, a thick blanket on a snowy winter day or cherry blossoms petals replacing snow on a spring day.

Sweet. Soft. Delicate. Fiery. intense. Passionate. All of it.

Jimin saw Jungkook. Nothing was as strong as his desire for him. Not only a bodily desire. But an emotional one too. The one that enabled him to see beyond his eyes. The one that told him whether Jungkook loved or hated something without needing words.

Jimin believed in the deepest of his being that not giving his entire self to Jungkook, not letting him see his body, flawed and as perfect as possible, not enabling him to consume him the same way Jimin has been drowning himself in Jungkook…perhaps that would be the greatest crime Jimin might ever commit in his life.

Jimin laid on his back, Jungkook on top of him, hands dancing together on their skin. And though Jimin gave his entire self, taking in return seemed too simple, too mechanical.

He made sure his kisses made Jungkook’s scent as strong as a volcano on the verge of eruption. He made sure Jungkook’s kisses grew hungrier and hungrier. He made sure to caress his skin and grind his hips against him every now and then, creating music for his ears.

They made one. An eclipse. It was crystal clear to Jimin.

Jungkook’s hands were firm against his skin; every inch of his body was being touched, marked and claimed.

Jungkook was claiming him with every breath, every lick, every moan. He claimed him as his.

“I’m yours.”

Jimin felt himself slip into a state of haze. The good kind. At the same time, he couldn’t decide whether he wanted to erupt now or later.

Because Jungkook’s hand on his cock wasn’t shy or hesitant. The waltz their tongue danced wasn’t in vain.

And when Jungkook’s fingers made contact with his sweet slick, Jimin saw the stars surrounding them.

His moans were no longer hushed. They were proud.

His body shivered entirely, eyes rolling in a coffee–flavored ecstasy. Air was knocked out of his lungs yet again.

Jungkook was indeed a gentle lover. Tender and gentle. Confident. Loving. Caring.

But he was fierce in his feelings. Jimin felt them underneath his skin. He felt himself quiver in pleasure.

He saw Jungkook craving him more and more, their eyes never detaching themselves from one another.

“I think I need you closer, Cherry Blossom,” Jungkook told him softly though hungrily.

Jimin, too, wanted more. He let Jungkook have more. He wanted to see him come undone on top of him.

And when Jungkook undressed him of the last bit of nicety left, the only unclaimed part of him, of them, Jimin felt something cosmic.

He felt like himself. He was a naked man, an omega, loved by an alpha.

Said alpha was thrusting into him with love no one would dare to even think of. He wasn’t rough in any way. He wasn’t impatient or neglecting.

“Are you okay?” He whispered to Jimin, giving him small kisses of reassurance.

“Yes. Yes. Yes.” Jimin knew only one of those was the actual answer to his question. He held Jungkook closer to him as he thrusted in him, feeling delirious. “Are you?” Jimin asked.

“You’re heaven, I’m in heaven.”

A tender kiss floating in lewd sounds and suffocating in their scents was the poetry Jimin didn’t know would bring him closer and closer to the edge of the hill.

Jungkook wasn’t slow in his love, nor did he speed it and risk spoiling the moment.

They took their time to make love to each other. Every single sparkle of love they felt in the pit of their stomach was proof of the love they blindly fell into, head first and hands falsely tied.

“I love you,” Jungkook said.

“I love you too.”

Each thrust of Jungkook was paired with sweet nothings. Sweet little words Jungkook whispered in his ear, followed by sensual kisses.

Each thrust was paired with Jimin’s arms tightening around Jungkook, wanting him close, even closer.

Each thrust was accompanied by their moans and heavy breaths.

Irregularity introduced itself, the edge of a hill about to be crested at any second.

Jimin wanted to take a few steps backward. He wanted it to last longer. “Wait, wait.” he said, a little breathless.

“Did I hurt you? Is everything okay? Do you want me to stop?”

Jimin chuckled. “No, just, s–slow down a little. I wanna feel you entirely for as long as possible. Ah…don’t leave me just yet, please.”

“Okay, my love.”

Jungkook rested on his elbows on either side of Jimin’s head, slowing his movements down. He looked right at Jimin, who looked back.

It was so sincere, so honest. Jimin saw the honesty.

Jungkook kept moving slowly. Time seemed to stop for a moment. Jimin’s moans got louder the slower Jungkook went. Jimin actually thought he entered a whole other dimension of pleasure.

He felt everything, every inch of his body caressed by Jungkook’s entire being. It was both heavenly and torturous.

He could tell it was the same for Jungkook from how he groaned, nuzzling his head in Jimin’s neck, almost forcing himself to not go faster because it felt so good. The pleasure was beyond overwhelmingly superb.

Jimin knew the edge of the hill was right here. Closer than expected. He wanted to run off of it now.

He knew Jungkook wanted the same.

“You can let go, Jungkook. Please, with me.”

And they both did. Together Jimin and Jungkook jumped off the hill and into a hurricane of strong pleasure.

A pleasure they could only moan for, a pleasure they called “Jimin” and “Jungkook” repeatedly. Because that’s what it was. This pleasure was them; it was their feelings materializing into reality.

They breathed heavily, basking in the aftermath.

“I love you.”

“I love you so much.”

“My love.”

“My Cherry Blossom.”

“My sun.”

Jungkook pulled his head away, looking Jimin in the eyes with his big doe eyes, staring with all the love in the world. “Your sun?” he asked.

“Mmh. You’re my sun. My happiness. My warmth. My safe place. My best friend. My lover. My mate. My home.”

“I’m your sun,” Jungkook repeated, a big smile proving Jimin’s words.

“You shine so brightly for me, Jungkook. You shine so brightly right here.” Jimin took Jungkook’s hand and placed it where his heart was. “You feel that?”

“Your heartbeat.”

“It’s for you. All of me, my happiness… it’s for you, because of you, and thanks to you.”

Jungkook kissed him softly, lazily.

“Can we stay here forever?” Jimin asked in between two kisses.

Jungkook chuckled happily. “Yes, please.” He trapped Jimin in his arms, making him laugh wholeheartedly.

They fell asleep shortly after. Wrapped in each other’s arms, close and inseparable.

Forever.

You are my forever.

☼☽︎

6 years later

The sun was setting. Golden glow with hints of pink.

The river was calm, and the sound of the water flowing slowly was relaxing.

The house next to the river was a little isolated from the rest of the pack.

It was calm, peaceful.

Spring was starting beautifully. And where spring is, love is too. Though, for Jungkook, love is here all year–round now.

Jungkook recalled how six years ago, he was preparing himself for the courting festival. His hands were a little shaky. He was a little tired before even starting it. His hair was a little shorter, and his heart was lonely.

Now Namjoon was about to take the head of the pack and would be in charge of organizing the event. Namjoon had always been the obvious choice to lead the pack. It came naturally to him.

It almost seemed foreign to Jungkook. Like he was in a whole other world. That’s how happy he was right now.

Jungkook was lying back on the grass in front of their house.

He watched his daughter, Byeol, in a fit of laughter caused by Jimin splashing water on her.

He watched his son, Haneul, dipping his toes, wanting to copy Jimin. But Jimin stopped him with tickles each time he threatened to go in too deep. Tickles always did the job at keeping him safe on land.

He watched Jimin. His beautiful Jimin, his Cherry Blossom who bloomed for him a little more each day. A little more beautiful, a little more vibrant, awaiting their third pup.

He watched his family be happy, and it made him all the more happier.

“Daddy!” Byeol called out to Jungkook.

Jungkook extended his arms to her until she jumped in his arms.

“Daddy! Come with us. Mommy and Hannie are against me.”

“Oh, are they? We can’t let that happen, can we?”

She shook her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

“Okay, let’s go. They have no chance of winning with me.”

Jungkook stood up, puffing his chest jokingly. His daughter did the same from her tiny height.

When Jimin saw them, he couldn’t hold back his laughter, almost stumbling in the river he was standing in.

Jungkook gasped and ran to him. “Woah, careful, sweetheart.”

His husband. His mate. The mating mark on his neck glowed under the sunset light.

“What were you thinking about over there on your own?” Jimin asked him softly, holding on to his arm tightly for balance.

“You. Our pups. Our family.”

“Your dream came true, didn’t it?”

“It did. Did yours?”

Jimin was humming in approval when their pups interrupted their little moment.

Haneul and Byeol laughed on the side, observing their parents’ cuteness.

“They’re just like you,” Jimin giggled, watching their pups distract themselves with the few flowers blooming next to the river.

“Are you happy, Cherry Blossom?”

“Yes. More than you’ll ever know, my sun.” Jimin kissed him.

Love.

Love isn’t an easy feeling. It’s not accommodating or indulgent.

Love isn’t one size fits all. It’s infinite possibilities, each one pretending to be better than the other.

Loving someone… is dedicating your entire being to them and them dedicating theirs to you, without fear and shame.

It’s an eclipse of two souls whose bond is so strong it could hurt. It will hurt at times, but it will be healed with simple words that mean everything and actions that make a difference.

One could argue that the sun and the moon were meant to be. Perhaps they were. Or they made it work for themselves. Whichever, coincidence or destiny, they were now one and inseparable.

There’s a whole spectrum of ways to love depending on the person. When it’s the right one, when you find your mate, it’s like the sun willingly exploding into tiny pieces for the sole reason that only then it’d be possible to be by the moon’s side.

The sun is the moon; the moon is the sun. They belong to one another while the sky and the stars look over them, rising and ascending.

Love is trusting with closed eyes and an open heart.

Love is blind.
