Work Text:
North and South Korea raced into their shared room. The one bed in there covered in as many blankets as they could find in the house. They were ready for a super big fort. Japanese Empire was out of the house, leaving their Sister Japan in charge. Not like she cared enough to really keep track of them. They weren't crying or going into Japanese Empire's room, so she didn't care.
Japanese empire was technically their mom. Not like she acted like it. She hated them at her core and they didn't know why. But, at least she was gone so they could have some real fun. The blankets were soft as they placed them as high as they could reach. Heavy books were moved for the occasion too, their own little world, blankets on the floor, blankets making a patchwork ceiling. It was wonderful.
It would have been even more fun in Japanese Empire's room. .She had fancy tatami mats in it that had the best texture. Whenever South had the chance, he would feel their texture. He liked it. Mildly rough, but still smooth enough to glide his hand over. It would make his hand tingle too. It felt nice.
They weren't allowed in her room. None of them were, not even Japan. She was the oldest of them all, several years older physically, and when she was poofed into existence. The mats were expensive and hard to clean, so only Japanese Empire was allowed into the room. She didn't want any of them ruining that floor. She also used it when guests came over, however that was less and less as she spent more time away from the house than there.
South and North Korea liked it better that way. This way they could have their room and the patchwork ceiling. The soft things under South that allowed him to speak a little. He was calm then. Relaxed. His hoarse voice speaking in little bursts, and North would know exactly what was on his mind. Japanese Empire hated South the most for this. A creepy observant child, who wouldn't speak, and cried more than his years allowed. North generally knew what South wanted. They showed up at the same time so were counted as twins. North was protective of South too, at least in the best way he could. Japanese empire hated him for that.
So, the two of them were together. Japan wasn't all too concerned with them, but at least she wasn't mean in the way Japanese Empire was. Japan's apathy was better than her mom's anger.
So, South sat excitedly in the fort they made. He flapped his arms in excitement and North smiled. "We did it South! We made it!"
South Nodded enthusiastically. "We did! We did we did we did we did." He savoured the taste of the words on his tongue. It was rare words came as easily to him as they did in that moment. Repeating it made him feel almost normal. Like the years of verbal abuse from the Japanese Empire would fade away if he kept speaking. North wrapped him in a comfy blanket and he smiled.
"I'm a little Sushi roll." South laughed with the ease of words. His stress down. "Sushi Roll!" He rolled into North who fell over and quickly started to laugh as well.
The two of them. Comfy, happy, and together. Like they would be forever. Right?
