Chapter 1: muffin

Chapter Text

Sasha parks his car in the parking lot outside the Aquarium of The Pacific. Anne unbuckles her seatbelt and picks up her backpack, throwing one backpack strap around her shoulder.

Marcy is sitting in the back of the car next to Anne. After Anne unbuckles her seatbelt and throws her backpack strap around her shoulder she turns to Marcy for a kiss.

Marcy and Anne’s lips connect in a brief but loving kiss, Marcy is grinning when they pull away.

"Have a nice day, muffin." Marcy says as they grin at Anne.

Anne laughs and Marcy laughs too, a little quieter.

"Muffin? That’s the one you’re trying now?" Sasha pipes up in the front.

Marcy turns their head toward Sasha, still smiling.

"It’s scientifically proven that partners who use pet names for each other are happier in their relationships than ones who don’t."

Sasha and Anne stare at Marcy amused, Sasha raises an eyebrow at them.

"That and… I just like it." Marcy adds, ducking her head sheepishly.

"You like muffin?" Anne chuckles again.

"Do you not like muffin?" Marcy raises their head and looks at Anne, frowning slightly. "Darn, guess I’ll have to try another one." They cross their arms.

"I’ll think about it," Anne gently puts a hand on Marcy's shoulder. "maybe over a muffin on my lunch break."

"Well," Sasha turns to look at Marcy and Anne in the back. "I like it, Mars."

"Yes! 1 out of 2!" Marcy cheers with glee, unbuckling their seatbelt. Marcy puts their hands on Sasha’s shoulders and leans forward, pressing her lips to Sasha’s cheek.

Sasha makes a hum of contentment after being kissed by his girlfriend and smirks. He has won.

"I’ll find something you like, Anne," Marcy sits back down and their expression changes to determined, accepting a challenge. "eventually."

Anne frowns at Sasha, knowing his game, before smirking as well.

"On second thought, I actually really like muffin."

"Nice try, Anne. You already got your Marcy kiss of the morning." Marcy pretends to stint Anne, but they can't stop a giggle from slipping out.

"Yeah, nice try, Anne." Sasha echos, tilting her head slightly, it reminds Anne of little puppies.

"Well, I better get a move on." Anne opens the car door next to her and steps out of the car, facing away from Sasha and Marcy.

Anne very slowly starts to walk away towards the Aquarium building, but she’s still waiting for Sasha and/or Marcy to either call her back or jump out of the car and chase her down. She wouldn't put either past them.

It takes a second or two longer than Anne is expecting but then-

"Wait, Anne, come back here!" Sasha yells at his girlfriend.

Anne turns around and then she runs back to the car as fast as her body will let her.

Anne grips the side of the car, leaning in to give Sasha a tender kiss.

When they part, Anne leans back with a small smile on her face.

"How’d I do?"

Sasha pauses for a moment, his cheeks flushed and eyes wide, then she grins slyly.

"Bad." Anne smiles a little wider when Sasha says this because Sasha's expression tells the whole story and Anne knows Sasha is just saying that so she'll kiss him again. It's okay because although Anne hasn't enjoyed kissing a lot of people in her life, she likes kissing Sasha. "You should do it again, Boonchuy."

Anne leans forward again and gives her girlfriend a big kiss.

It takes them longer to part this time but they do.

"Have a good day, muffin." Sasha murmurs happily, loud enough for Anne and Marcy to hear.

Anne steps back and lets go of the car, but doesn’t get a chance to leave just yet.

"How come you get two Anne kisses and I only get one?" Marcy complains.

"You jealous?" Sasha asks, both Anne and Sasha are looking at Marcy. It's an honest question despite how playful they've been this morning. It's important to tell your partners when you're jealous.

"Yes, I am. A little."

Anne takes a few easy steps over to where Marcy’s still sitting, grips the side of the car, and leans in like she did before with Sasha.

Marcy holds Anne’s face and can’t help but pull their girlfriend closer, they are both smiling as they kiss.

Marcy pulls away first.

"Okay, now you really better get out of here. I wouldn’t want me or Sash to be the reason why you're late to your super amazing job!"

Anne doesn’t mind it too much, but she agrees with a nod, following Marcy's gaze as Marcy is now looking at the Aquarium.

Anne steps back and waves goodbye.

"Goodbye, guys! I’ll see you after work!"

"Bye, muffin!" Marcy and Sasha  both yell in unison, with great big smiles on their faces.

Then they all laugh together. A beautiful sound that never stops being so.

Anne knows she’s got the stupidest lovesick face right now, she just knows it.

Anne mentally slaps herself and a small quiet voice in her head yells "get it together boonchuy!", a reaction from back when she would crush on them as kids (although she didn't realize at the time that she even had a crush), a reaction that is still around now, somehow.

It’s the mental slap that manages to get her to turn around, look away from the sight of her girlfriends smiling and waving, and finally go to work.

When she gets to the breakroom to drop off her bag, a colleague informs her that she’s three minutes late.

Three minutes late, but Anne has no regrets.
