Work Text:
Seonghwa smiled at Wooyoung and Yeosang as they took seats at his table, bickering over something trivial, barely stopping for a moment to greet him before carrying on. To his left, Yunho continued perusing the menu, long since used to his friends being loud and petty at any opportune moment. If the Earth was spinning, someone was arguing. Jongho was the next to arrive, completely ignoring Yeosang and Wooyoung still bickering; he pressed a quick kiss to Yeosang’s cheek and flicked Wooyoung’s forehead before sitting himself on Seonghwa’s right.
Mingi stumbled into the diner not five minutes after Jongho, his cheeks glowing scarlet from having confidently pushed the pull door and smacking his face against the glass. Luckily, his friends were gracious enough to not mention it and he quietly slipped into the seat beside Yunho before slumping forward to hide his face against the table top. He let out a whine at the feel of Yunho petting his hair, knowing his boyfriend was patronising him for being clumsy.
“It happens, Mingi,” Seonghwa hummed, also reaching over to pat Mingi’s arm.
“Yeah, to me!”
“Well… someone’s got to be the clumsy one.”
No sooner had the words left Seonghwa’s mouth than San did the same thing, face-planting himself against the glass door, a loud bang echoing through the diner. He sheepishly pulled the door open and bowed to everyone for disturbing their meals before making his way over to their table. Yeosang and Wooyoung had stopped their argument to laugh at San’s clumsiness, Wooyoung’s signature cackle resonating as loudly through the diner as San’s impact with the door. San frowned at his boyfriend, posturing his hands on his hips.
Wooyoung calmed his laugh down to a giggle and peered up at his lover, trying to convey his remorse for laughing. “Sorry baby, but that was hilarious.”
San rolled his eyes but leaned down for a kiss regardless, huffing when the kiss was broken by Wooyoung breaking out into another fit of giggles. Letting his boyfriend carry on, San made his way around the table, kissing both Yeosang and Mingi on the lips and Seonghwa on his forehead before taking the empty seat beside Jongho.
“Are we all here now?” Yunho asked, eagerly picking his menu back up. Mingi leaned into his boyfriend’s space to look over his menu rather than grab one of his own. The rest of the group all grabbed their own menus, perusing through the list of offered dishes as if they would ever deviate from their usual orders.
San was the first to make his decision, slapping his menu down before resting his chin in his hands, peering over at Yeosang. “So, Sangie, how was Friday night?”
Yeosang let out a quiet snort, not bothering to raise his head as he continued reading over his menu. “Awful. A solid two out of ten, and that’s being generous.”
“Why? What happened?”
“I told you, I’m sorry! He came highly recommended!” Wooyoung butt in, nudging Yeosang with his shoulder.
Yeosang gently laid his menu down and looked back at San, folding his hands together on the table top. “Remember how I told you I’m not really partial to one-night-stands with men? Because they usually disappoint? Well, Wooyoung just reaffirmed that with the guy he set me up with. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had to sort myself out after they’ve finished.”
San frowned, reaching over to pet Yeosang’s arm. “Did he not even offer a hand?”
Yunho let out a quiet giggle at San’s words, but kept to himself.
“Nope. No nothing. He literally rolled over and went to sleep. So… I did what any spiteful bisexual does; I made sure I got cum in his hair, used his only clean towel to clean myself off and went home.”
Seonghwa finally looked up from his menu, frowning at Yeosang. “Is that really what spiteful bisexuals do?”
Yeosang shrugged. “It’s what this spiteful bisexual does.”
“What changed your mind about this guy? Usually you’re adamant that if they’re not from your pre-approved list, it’s not happening,” Mingi asked.
“Wooyoung insisted . He promised he was good and worth my consideration. Obviously from now on I shalln’t listen to a single word that comes out of his mouth.”
Wooyoung wailed as he pressed his face into Yeosang’s shoulder, grabbing his arms to shake him slightly. “I swear on my life, Sangie! Juyeon told me he’s the best he’s ever had! Gave me all the explicit details! He sounded like he’d break your back!”
“Well clearly Juyeon is having exclusively bad sex because he did nothing of the sort.”
Everybody quietened as the waiter approached, pretending for five minutes they were perfectly civilised people whilst their orders were taken, and not the wild pack of animals they usually were. The moment the waiter was out of earshot Mingi leaned into the table, peering up at Yeosang as if he was the most fascinating thing he’d ever seen.
“So how many are on the list now?”
“It’s gone down to just three, after Yoojin wanted me to wear lingerie.”
San frowned, glancing around everyone at the table. “Wait, what’s up with lingerie?”
“Generally nothing. But he already feminised me too much. If he wants to sleep with women he should; not try and make me dress up as one to fulfil his fantasies.”
“It’s good that you know your worth,” Seonghwa said, reaching to both sides to rest a hand on Yunho and Jongho’s shoulders. “You should all do what’s best for yourselves.”
Wooyoung suddenly turned his attention to the eldest, propping his chin up like an enthralled child. “Are you doing what’s best for yourself? Where did hyung take you on Sunday?”
San chimed in too, the self-appointed leader of the ‘Seonghwa protection squad’. “Yeah! It had better have been good! Only the best for my favourite hyung!”
Seonghwa rolled his eyes good-naturedly, resting his hands down in his lap. “He took me to this British tea room thing. It was really cute.”
Wooyoung suddenly gasped, bouncing in his seat. “Wait! The one on the side road down from McDonalds?!”
“Yes?”
“We went there! I found it with hyung! I told him you’d like it! See! I know you so well! Did you do the whole tea thing? We couldn’t because apparently you need to book in advance.”
Seonghwa smiled to himself. “Do you mean the big display of cakes and sandwiches and things?”
“Yes! It looked so good! Ah, I’m so happy he took you there!”
“Well it’s about time hyung stepped up to the plate,” San said, flinching away when Seonghwa reached over to slap his arm.
“Stop bad-mouthing my boyfriend! Hongjoong is more than good to me.”
“I know, I know, I’m just messing around.”
“Well, be nice to him please.”
“Fine, but… We need to know… He’s good to you in bed too, right? Because you absolutely deserve someone who’s blowing your back out in the most spectacular ways possible.”
Seonghwa rolled his eyes. He glanced around at the rest of his friends, not impressed to find them all leaning in, waiting anxiously for an answer.
“Well?” Yunho prompted.
Seonghwa sighed, glaring at San and then Wooyoung. “You know he treats me well.”
“But you never give us details!” Wooyoung complains.
“Because it’s not just my personal life. Hongjoong doesn’t want you all knowing what we get up to.”
“It’s not fair you tell those three though and not the rest of us,” Mingi whined. “For all Yunho and I know you just lie down in the dark at night.”
Wooyoung burst out laughing at the thought of Seonghwa and Hongjoong stiffly lying side by side in the dark, staring up at a black ceiling. Seonghwa sighed, his shoulders slumping as the rest of the table started laughing and giggling too. He was momentarily saved by the waiter coming back over with their drinks order; two large carafes of coffee were placed in the middle of the table, along with a strawberry milkshake for Seonghwa. Once the drinks were served and the waiter had moved an ample distance away, Wooyoung began giggling again, reaching over the table for Seonghwa’s hands.
“If I didn’t know better I could absolutely picture you and hyung just lying lifelessly in bed!”
Seonghwa rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time and pulled the straw in his milkshake to his lips. “You’re all so mean.”
Mingi shuffled his chair closer to Yunho, leaning his upper body over the table. “Just tell us! Who tops?”
The others all comically leaned closer too, ready to listen to whatever Seonghwa was going to say. Seonghwa took a deep breath, glancing around at his friends as he realised he had no real choice but to answer their questions.
“We switch–”
“Boring!”
“–But I guess usually I do. It’s just easier.”
Yunho frowned. “Why?”
Wooyoung cleared his throat and held his hands a distance apart from each other as if sizing something up. He smirked at Yunho, nodding as his friend understood what he was inferring.
“You or him?”
Seonghwa sighed loudly. “Him.”
Mingi squealed and pressed himself against Yunho, the couple getting excited over the new information. “How big though?”
Wooyoung answered before Seonghwa could even process the question. “Big enough that it’s too much of a hassle to prep!”
“Like a baby’s arm, I think you told me,” Yeosang added. The table erupted into laughter whilst Seonghwa hid his face in his hands. San even stood up and grabbed Seonghwa’s shoulders, shaking him vigorously whilst also teasing him about his boyfriend’s supposed penis size.
Wooyoung, however, hadn’t finished. “But Seonghwa hyung’s not small himself! He’s pretty standard! It’s just Hongjoongie hyung is packing some major heat.”
“Oh my God, Wooyoung, stop!”
Wooyoung cackled, throwing his head back as he let the other patrons of the diner know that he was thoroughly amused. Meanwhile, Seonghwa’s face was glowing red, absolutely mortified that his intimate details were being shared over brunch.
Even the waiter bringing the first round of food didn’t stop Wooyoung from laughing, though it had died down to an unending giggle. The bringing of the food had, for now, saved Seonghwa from further grilling as everyone tucked into their meals. The only conversation happening was requests for sauces and syrups to be passed around, calls for coffee refills, and Yeosang and Jongho diplomatically discussing how best to share their food. After a while of food-induced silence, Seonghwa decided to pick up a safe conversation, asking Jongho how his singing was going.
Jongho replied positively and the table discussion turned to something that wouldn’t repulse people to overhear. Separate conversations split off, and more food was brought out, more than enough to feed the group of broke university students. A second round of coffee was also provided and Seonghwa received another milkshake before Wooyoung began acting strangely.
His phone had pinged not long after his second plate of pancakes had been put in front of him and he’d grabbed at it after looking at the display. He seemed eager to message back whoever it was, but was also unwilling to let anyone know who it was, angling the screen away from anyone who could have glanced at it. Seonghwa’s suspicions were raised when Wooyoung began casting furtive glances at him, doing his absolute best to not draw attention to himself.
“What’s going on, Wooyoung?”
Wooyoung comically jumped in his seat, almost slamming his phone screen-down on the table. “Nothing! What? Oh, haha, just messaging Changbinnie.”
“Oh really? What’s going on?”
“Oh not much, you know. He’s asking for date ideas for Hyunjin and Lixie.”
Seonghwa hummed to himself, not remotely convinced but was content to let it drop for now. Wooyoung was awful at keeping secrets. Whatever it was, he’d let it slip soon enough. Brunch continued, and Wooyoung got fidgety and less inclined to join the conversations happening around him, instead he kept looking over to the door. His phone pinged again and after checking his message suddenly Wooyoung seemed very interested in what was happening at the table, leaning into Yeosang and nodding along to whatever was being said. Seonghwa eyed him suspiciously but maintained his focus on Yunho’s explanation of how their dance collaboration was going to be graded.
A pair of arms wrapping around his shoulders almost made Seonghwa jump out of his chair, but he’d recognise the gentle nuzzling against the side of his head anywhere. He smiled to himself, holding onto the arms around him and leaned into the nuzzle, ignoring the matching grins on all of his friends.
“What are you doing here?”
Hongjoong hummed quietly, bunting his head gently against his boyfriend’s before pulling away to stand up straight. “My workshop was cancelled, and I thought I’d come see if you were still brunching instead of festering in my studio.”
San hopped up out of his seat and went round the table to sit in Wooyoung’s lap; Jongho followed his lead and shuffled over to the chair San had vacated, allowing Hongjoong to sit next to his boyfriend. Seonghwa could barely restrain his happiness that Hongjoong had joined them for gay brunch, even if it was almost over. He reached over to take his hand, resting them on his lap.
“Do you want something to eat? Most of us are finished but…”
Hongjoong shook his head, smiling sweetly at Seonghwa before finally greeting everyone else at the table. Wooyoung wiggled in his seat, uncaring that he was also wiggling San who was trying his best to drink some coffee.
“I told you he’d be happy to see you! Late or not!”
Hongjoong rolled his eyes and shuffled his seat a little closer to Seonghwa, gazing reverently at his boyfriend as everyone went back to the rest of their food. “So, what were we talking about?”
Yunho opened his mouth to continue his explanation of their dance collaboration when Wooyoung interrupted.
“Hyung’s going to dye his hair pink!”
Hongjoong’s neck almost snapped with the speed with which he looked at Wooyoung and then back at his boyfriend, his eyes almost bugging out of their sockets. “P-pink?”
Seonghwa blushed, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. “I was just asking if they thought I’d suit it. I wasn’t necessarily going to do it.”
“N-no no, you can’t go pink. No. Please don’t.”
“Oh. Why not?”
San would have had an easier time drinking coffee on a bucking bronco than on his boyfriend’s lap; Wooyoung bounced in his seat, grinning at the older couple.
“Yeah, why’s that, hyung?”
Hongjoong scowled. “This is why I don’t tell you things, Wooyoung.”
“Tell Seonghwa hyung why he’s not allowed to dye his hair pink.”
“No, it’s not that he’s not allowed! He can do whatever he wants, it’s his body! It’s just…”
“Just…?”
Hongjoong let out a deep sigh, carefully eyeing Seonghwa. “It’s just that I’d have a hard time not being all over him if he did.”
Wooyoung cackled once again, enjoying the awkward situation he’d put his friends in. Both Hongjoong and Seonghwa blushed bright red, almost unable to look each other in the eye. The rest of the table also seemed to enjoy watching their hyungs squirm; Jongho grinned at the couple, lacing his fingers together like a Bond villain.
“Seonghwa hyung, I still have some pink dye at mine from when we did Yeosang.”
Everyone at the table looked at the couple expectantly. Seonghwa bit his lip as he assessed Hongjoong’s reaction from the corner of his eye.
“O-oh, well… You know I have no classes today.”
Hongjoong almost choked on his own saliva, reaching for a cup to fill with coffee in an attempt to calm his nerves. Jongho’s grin became somehow more malevolent.
“Well I’m free if you are.”
Wooyoung grinned at the chaos he’d created, and celebrated by pressing a loud, wet kiss to San’s cheek.
“So I’m guessing the rarity of Hongjoong hyung topping is not going to be a thing for a while,” Mingi mused. Hongjoong actually choked on his own saliva this time, pounding at his chest with his fist; Seonghwa was almost glowing red as he stared at Mingi in disbelief. Meanwhile everyone else was laughing loudly and hooting, earning the table a lot of disgruntled looks from the other patrons.
“I cannot believe you just said that!” Wooyoung cackled, shaking San almost violently on his lap.
“Neither can I,” Seonghwa muttered, moving to check on Hongjoong who was still spluttering next to him. He grabbed a glass of water and pressed it into his boyfriend’s hand, making sure he didn’t choke on that too.
“You know,” Jongho started. “I think it’s probably best we call brunch here.”
Hongjoong finally managed to find his voice, though a little croaky. “I think that’s a good idea. I have class in 40 minutes.”
Everyone moved to get their money out, Yunho calling over the waiter to speed up the process. San and Wooyoung were the first to be on their way, giving everyone hugs and kisses – bar Yunho, Jongho and Hongjoong – before leaving, hands clasped together. Yunho and Mingi were next, Yunho patiently waiting whilst Mingi cuddled with Yeosang, promising to spend some time together in the upcoming week.
Hongjoong and Seonghwa managed to steal a quick moment to themselves, Hongjoong allowing himself a rare moment of PDA as he pressed a gentle kiss to Seonghwa’s cheek, and then lips. They let their foreheads rest together for a few seconds, ignoring everything going on around them.
“I’m so sorry for them today,” Seonghwa said quietly, slinging his arms up around his boyfriend’s shoulders. Hongjoong smiled, squeezing Seonghwa’s waist.
“It’s fine. It’s not your fault they’re a band of hooligans.”
“No, but I did kind of tell them bits about our sex life.”
“I mean… It is what it is. My issue isn’t so much that they have the information, it’s what they do with it that’s the problem.”
“Like shout about it in a busy diner?”
“Yeah, like that.”
“Ok. But I have to be honest, they also know about your–um… your size.”
“My size?”
Seonghwa nodded, sucking his bottom lip between his teeth. He pointedly looked down between their bodies, urging Hongjoong to understand what he was saying without having to verbalise it.
“Huh? Oh? Oh! What?! Hwa!”
“I’m sorry! But you know… I told Wooyoung once when I was drunk and he was the one that told everyone! I just… didn’t… say anything.”
“Oh God, he’s going to be insufferable.”
“Hey lovebirds! Are you ready to go?!”
The couple looked over to where Yeosang and Jongho patiently stood, arms linked together. Hongjoong cleared his throat and detached himself from Seonghwa, straightening out his clothes and hair.
“Well, I guess I’d better get back to college.”
Seonghwa nodded, picking up his jacket from the back of his chair, gazing almost longingly at his boyfriend. “Yeah, and I’ll go… do my hair?”
“Yes. Um… yeah, you go… and uh… do that.”
Jongho laughed to himself, beckoning Seonghwa over to him. “Don’t worry hyung, we’ll take good care of your boyfriend. You won’t be able to keep your hands off him.”
Hongjoong took a deep breath, rallying every ounce of restraint in his body before nodding affirmatively. “Ok. I’d best be off.” He moved over to where Seonghwa was now stood between Jongho and Yeosang, an arm linked through each of theirs. “You guys have fun, I’ll see you later at home, Hwa. I look forward to seeing your new look.”
Seonghwa smiled to himself, putting forward his cheek for Hongjoong to kiss and bid his boyfriend a fond goodbye, watching him all but run out of the diner. Yeosang and Jongho laughed, corralling Seonghwa out of the diner too, in the opposite direction of the university, to Jongho’s dorm room.
“We’ll do our best to prepare your hair, hyung, but you’ll have to take over preparing yourself for Hongjoong’s massive dick tonight.”
