Chapter Text

Regulus:

Regulus laid on his bed, facing the door. If he strained his ears, he could hear his mother’s yells. They were most likely directed at Sirius who, well, Sirius always seemed to find an excuse for an argument. He let out a sigh and turned over to try and block out the shouting. He used to worry for Sirius, used to wait at the top of the stairs, stretching his neck as far as it would go to check if his brother was alright.

But that had all changed now, everything had changed, ever since Sirius had grow up and go away to that boring school with his other friends and leave regulus behind this house.Sirius didn’t need other friends, he used to reason with himself, Sirius had him, and that was enough. But it was never enough, he was never enough. Sirius always wanted more, ever since they were kids.

When Sirius left for boarding school regulus often found himself sitting on his bed, perfectly still, staring at the wall for hours at a time, not feeling, not seeing, for it was Sirius that had filled his life laughter and adventure and when he left, he took that light with him. Walburga no longer had Sirius to blame of all the wrong doings she caused so she turned to regulus instead, he was not even aloud to breath the wrong way of his mother would get angry, regulus remembered her last rage, he still had the bruises.

When he was younger, he would pretend that they were like the normal families he read about in his books, that his father was away at work not bed-ridden, that his mother would never even dream about laying a hand on her two sons, that Sirius always played with him and never left to go to school in another country. He still remembers when Sirius would comfort him in the dead of night, telling him that they didn’t need to be a normal family. Still, life never goes the way you plan does it. Sirius eventually left the house leaving Regulus in line to inherit the black family fortune and business.

He we forced into uncomfortable meetings, forced handshakes and ties pulled to tight around his neck he felt as though he was going to choke. His mother had been an unmoving pillar through out all of it, ensuring he did not fall behind (read take a single day of ever), keeping an eye on assets and potential problems. She didn’t care for the wellbeing of her son, only the money that pool into his bank account every month. This was why he was about to board the plane to Los Angeles from London. He was meeting a potential business partner there.

To his left Barty was still pestering Evan about his seat, apparently sitting in the isle chair was ‘hell on earth’ and he should move immediately. Regulus could see there incessant arguing was bothering other passengers, felling slightly embarrassed he, with much difficulty, climbed over the two of them and made a beeline for the plane bathroom. Much to regulus’s dismay his master plan to avoid attention failed as out of the blue a hand grabbed his shoulder. Turning around he was more than ready to sneer at the person who was holding his arm when he was faced with a sight he couldn’t quite believe.

‘Sirius?’

‘Reg, I-uh what are you doing here’

Fixing Sirius with the must murderous stare he could achieve in his current state of shock he opens his mouth to retort back when the plane shook, the seatbelt sight pinged on, and a couple of passengers gasped. Then everything seemed to happen all at once, the tail section of the plane started to break of, the plane went into a sudden nosedive and the pilot shouted something incoherent before being cut off with another scream. Then, silence. And then, for reasons unknows to regulus, the sound of waves, crashing against the shore.

James:

Sand, sand and screaming, that was the first two things James registered when he was started awake from unconsciousness, he had not yet opened his eyes and a selfish part of him wanted to keep them closed, it was as if he didn’t open them he would not have to deal with whatever was out there, that he would be safe and protected staring at the inky blackness that was his eyelids. He would often deal with lifes problems this way, he knew it was bad but he had just accepted it as a character flaw he couldn't seem to change. Alas, he felt himself being shaken awake. Peeling open his eyes he was faced with a woman with her brow furrowed and her hands gripping his shoulder.

She noticed he was awake and began to ask him if he was ok.

‘Are you alright? Do you remember your name?’ she pressed him, ‘our plane has crashed somewhere in Oceania but I’m sure help is on its way,’. She seemed to be reassuring herself more than James.

‘I’m Lilly, Lilly Evans’ She smiled. 'we were sat near each other on the plane,'

There was silence for a moment before James realised, she was expecting an answer.

‘Hey, are you with me?’ She questioned, tilting one of her brows as her lip quirked up into the beginnings of a smile.

‘Oh, yes sorry uh my names James,’ He finally answered, mentally cursing himself for embarrassing himself already, ‘and yes I’m quite alright,’

She seemed to believe him and  stuck a hand out to pull him up, he now had a better view of his surroundings he started to make sense of his predicament, he could see the front of the plane sticking out of the sand, people were in various states of panic left and right. The plane was smoking and various bits of peoples luggage was scattered all over the beach. Two people hunched over by the sand caught his eye, two girls, one seemed to be kneeled over with shrapnel in her abdomen.

The girl, Lilly, had also seem and they both rushed over. However they were stopped by a man running into them, he was thrown back, as were James and Lilly and he looked up at them both with a confused but dazed expression.

'sorry bout' that one ,he supplied as an apology, names Peter Pettigrew,' his daze expression contorted into one of worry as he looked to the left of James at a woman with her leg trapped under part of the plane, he gave James and Lilly a quick nod before running over to help her. James turned his attention back to the two girls.

One of the girls looked over, she was blonde had what James identified as a thick Irish accent. Her eyes were full of dread and brash emotion as she called out to them, her voice shaking as she spoke.

‘It’s Dorcas, i- I can’t, please you have to help her the shrapnel’ She looked between the two as they stared at each other in frozen terror, James didn’t know anything about Lilly, but he wasn’t a doctor by any means. He Was about to shout for help when a tall man with long ginger hair ran over. He was carrying the planes first aid kit. He knelt by Dorcas and turned to the three.

‘I'm Fabian Prewet, i know basic medical training, can you tell me your name?' he asked the blonde girl. She told him it was Marlene and that the girl below her was called Dorcas, Marlene reached down to brush one of Dorcas's braids of her face before lovingly stroking the girls cheek.

Fabian cleared his thought, I’m going to have to pull the shrapnel out before bandaging her up, are you about to hold her down?’

‘H-hold her down?’ Croaked Marlene

‘I thought he were supposed to keep it in,’ supplied James, ‘that’s what they do in the movies’

‘Normally I would,’ the man grimaced, ‘but the shrapnel is crushing her internal organs, its vital I get it out.

From under him the girl let out a groan her hands scrambled for purchase as she tried to push herself up. In panic James and lily hastily pushed her back down, once they had guided her back to the floor they kept their hands against Dorcas, Lilly gave a nod to the man with a grimace on her face, and he reached his hand towards the shrapnel.

Remus did not think his life was or was ever going to be particularly exciting, it had always been pretty bland with nothing of note happening, as he laid on the grass looking up at the canopy of trees, he was beginning to revoke that statement. Hauling himself up he looked at his surroundings and his eyes rested on the the unconscious man living next to him. The man had dark black hair and pale skin that would surely burn in the hot climate of…

Remus then realised that he didn’t know where he was, he obviously knew he was in some sort of rain forest but a rainforest wasn’t exactly London, he had boarded that plane expecting paved streets and coffee shops, not the faint sound of screaming and green foliage surrounding him. Remus directed his attention into the man next to him. His eyes lashes were fluttering so at least he’s not dead, Remus thought to himself. He knelt down and tentatively started slapping the man round the face. after several awkward moments on Remus's end he eventually came round.

Remus had always been a very sickly child, he still was a sickly adult, so it meant in his youth he had found it hard to make friends, what with the inconsistencies of going in an out of hospital he had been hardly ever in school wich, to young Remus's surprise, had sparked jealousy in many of his peers, it was as if they believed they were worthy of just as much rest as Remus had been despite them being perfectly able bodied, it was almost as if they wanted his weak immune system and many allergies. Well, after an experience such as that in Remus's younger years you can imagine he didn't go out of his way to make friends in his adult life, he did have a few on-and-of ones in his teen years and in university but they fizzled out after about a year, they had been a convenience to each other, only existing as a sort of comfort. So, as you can imagine Remus had never really had to make small  talk with someone, especially someone who had been nocked unconscious from a plane crash.

The man was awake now and was looking up at Remus with, rather attractive, sullen dark eyes, Remus expected him to be nothing short of hysterical due to the current climate but he saw the man had a slight smirk on his face.

'hey handsome stranger what's your name,' slurred the man 'm Sirius like the star,'

it was only then that Remus realised the man, Sirius, might be slightly delirious from the concussion he sustained during the crash. Remus was no doctor but he knew he needed to get him water, and he needed it fast. Scanning his surroundings he saw some smoke from the plane in the air, he remembered being offered bottled water on the plane and with no time to search for a water source in the rainforest that would be his best bet. he then realised Sirius had pushed himself forward and had one hand latched onto his shin the other hand pocking it in an attempt to gain Remus's attention.

'its rude to no answer ya know,' Sirius scolded

Remus could detect the tiniest hint of French his the mans accent, now, Remus was already not prepared to deal with a delirious stranger, but a French stranger this must be hell. He curtly gave Sirius his name before attempting to prise the man of his leg. Sirius gave an indignant huff hand squeezed his arm tighter.

'look,' Remus sighed, 'you and I need water and shade and if you don't co operate I have half a mind to leave here on the jungle floor!'

While this seemed, at first, to scare the man into compliance, it did not at all have the effect Remus wanted,

'oh please don't leave me Remus, please' Sirius wined while, with some difficulty, hauling himself to his feet using Remus's shoulder had his support. Remus should have known that this man was unpredictable nevertheless, he gave a started yelp and almost fell backwards when Sirius jumped onto him. With with his arms and legs wrapped around Remus  Sirius must have looked akin to a koala.

'Alright Remus, lead the way' he declared. By now Remus was well and truly done with the useless arguing, lacking the energy the try and pull Sirius of him Remus accepted his fate and started to trudge through the jungle towards the beach.
