Work Text:
Just one, Hirano says to himself, somewhat of a way to keep his cool as he sits next to Kagiura on his bed. He can't believe he's doing this, but this is what it's come to.
Kagiura was actually joking, he's sure. "How about a kiss then?" Then he giggled and almost said, "Just kidding."
But Hirano was already saying, "Just one," before he could catch himself, and his head whipped around to meet Kagiura's, whose jaw might as well have detached from his face and fell to the floor.
Hirano hadn't meant to at all. I mean, kissing is preposterous and a terrible idea. They're not together, he's pretty sure he doesn't like Kagiura like that anyway, and kissing is substantially romantic. Much more so than just simple touching.
Kagiura had shook his head profusely, saying he was only kidding and he didn't want to force Hirano into that and all, but Hirano didn't want that on his conscience. He had already said "just one", and just one shouldn't be bad. He just tells Kagiura not to kiss him on the lips and it'll be fine, right? He's a man of his word.
So, sitting next to him, he decides to deal with it. It's one measly kiss, somewhere that's not on his mouth, how bad can it possibly be?
Kagiura has been fidgeting since this happened, constantly asking "are you sure" and "you don't have to humor me, Hirano-san", and Hirano responds, "Stop arguing with me!"
He does, shuts up, and takes the deepest breath in that his lungs will probably allow. Hirano's bracing himself already for some target at his face, but instead, Kagiura lifts up his hand, very gently in fact, holding onto the tips of his fingers and very lightly kissing his knuckles. It almost tickles.
Hirano doesn't know what to say. Kagiura lets his hand go and is laughing, definitely nervously. "It's the first thing I thought of," he's admitting, and Hirano’s almost entirely sure that out of embarrassment, his face has burst into flames because that's not what he was expecting and now he feels like an idiot, but at the same time, it really wasn't that bad. It was, dare he say, nice?
He shakes that thought away and stands back up. He can't even find a reasonable response to it, the only legible words that come out are, "You're so weird, Kagi-kun."
Just one, he had said, but somehow, it's become a habit for Kagiura to kiss his hand. He's even become used to it.
Every now and then, when Kagiura's messing with him or playing with his hand already, he'll just clasp it and press his lips against his knuckles, and Hirano always looks at him and roughly tussles his hair, "What do you think you're doing, stupid?" But he doesn't hate it. It's not that bad anyway, what's the harm?
Once, Kagiura's kissing the vein below his palm, and he has to go to bed early to hide his face away, not wanting Kagiura to see that effect.
(Maybe twice)
Just one, he says to himself again, because he knows that there had to be some progression in Kagiura kissing his hand all the time like some prince (and it is rather charming, actually), so he's allowing another one somewhere else (not his lips of course).
Kagiura's been staring at him for a while, very quizzically studying Hirano's face, and it was making his palms sweat a little bit, wondering if it would be more bold or just as harmless as his hand.
Then Kagiura kisses his cheek, very lightly too, and it's not so bad, Hirano thinks. It's pretty warm, actually, reminds him of family in a way that's not weird.
And of course, his "just one" doesn't mean anything after because Kagiura now kisses his cheek sometimes too, but more so in a playful manner, not awfully affectionate, and that way, Hirano doesn't mind it much at all.
It means Kagiura will be whining about not wanting to study and asking for a break, arms draped around Hirano's shoulders and pleading into his ear (he doesn't like that though). He won't exactly kiss his cheek but sort of try to, and Hirano just laughs and attempts not to feel distracted himself until Kagiura actually does kiss his cheek, and wow, no more studying for tonight, you have ten seconds to run.
Sometimes, instead of actually kissing his cheek, he'll bite it instead, but in a way that more so tickles than hurts and he hates the fact that he couldn't stop laughing for ten minutes after. That in and of itself was the break Kagiura wanted so badly, and he even admitted it, leaving Hirano's cheek red to get up and sit back at his desk. If he wasn't mistaken, Hanzawa and his roommate were giving them weird looks at breakfast after.
(It helped, so...)
Just one, again that is, and this time is Hirano's forehead. It doesn't come as often as the other two, nowhere near, but there is one night when Hirano is yawning and eyes watering trying to study, even though it's not really working, finger tapping his desk and pen moving robotically along a busy sheet of paper.
"Are you going to bed yet, Hirano-san?" Kagiura asks, his voice low and tired sounding himself.
Hirano shakes his head, pointing his pencil towards his notebook and papers. "Another twenty minutes maybe. You can turn off the light."
Kagiura pouts a little. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, go to sleep." He doesn't spare a glance, waving him off. "Goodnight."
But Kagiura only moves closer, enough to stand behind him and cover his eyes. Hirano's about to ask what he's doing when he feels Kagiura's lips press against his hairline, only made accessible because he tied back his bangs so that they wouldn't obstruct his vision. It's so quick and fleeting that he's only left staring ahead when Kagiura releases him and turns off the lights, singing a quick, "Goodnight!" and hopping into bed.
Hirano can't see his junior's face, but honestly, he doesn't want to. He only covers his own burning cheeks and decides it was probably to wake him up, and finds he's not tired anymore anyway.
(That's all, right?)
Just one isn't on Hirano’s mind this time. No, it was technically not supposed to happen, but Kagiura kisses his forehead again, at least tries, but Hirano moves at the very last second and the kiss lands on his eyelid, and it's funny because he forgets to open his eye after, and the two stare at each other (Hirano with only his right eye), quite bewildered, then the both of them are choking on their own laughter because of its abrupt and unintentional nature.
(Another won't hurt)
Hirano thinks it's becoming consistently unintentional, that his face and entire body somehow move at the worst times, but he's having trouble getting up one morning on the weekend because of his late night studying, so much so that Kagiura for once gets up before him and hovers above his head, hand beside his pillow. Hirano has to squint because the sun is peeking through the window, but another sun is standing over him, asking if he's alright.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he mutters, and he covers his eyes slightly with his hand, tries to glance at his face between his fingers.
This time, Kagiura warns him, says, "I'm gonna kiss you."
And, in his tiredness, he doesn't remember that it was never the lips, always the hand or the forehead or the cheek (or the eyelid apparently), so the moment Kagiura is close enough, he abruptly snaps his head up and over, and Kagiura's lips land right on his jawline instead of his cheek where he was most likely aiming for.
Hirano has to suppress a shudder that runs through his spine, not only at the kiss but at Kagiura's visage when he realizes where he had planted it. "Sorry...!" He says quickly. "I didn't mean to scare you with it."
"That's my fault, I—" he almost admits to misreading his intentions, but he doesn't want that out there. "I was about to... yawn," he tries. And no, it's not a good cover up at all, but Kagiura takes it anyway and he's not gonna argue.
Even ten minutes after, Hirano's rubbing the same spot on his jaw and having to bite down any reaction to it. It felt... odd. A different kind of nice that he doesn't want to think about right now. So he doesn't, hoping it was another, and real, "just one".
But when is it ever? That "just one" becomes "just one whenever I'm trying to get my way", but that doesn't last long either. At first, it works a little bit to make Hirano relent because he lets, no, he expects Kagiura to kiss him sometimes, and those kisses are expected to be any of the maybe six ways he was introduced to. The kiss itself is just different than the others for some reason. Maybe because it's a more sensitive area. But it gives Hirano a surge of energy; Kagiura will use it to get him out of bed, to make Hirano listen to a story he's telling, to get Hirano to take a study break, and he listens. But at some point, it becomes more of Hirano just letting him do it. It feels nice anyway, so sometimes he tilts his head into the kiss to give Kagiura a better angle of his jaw, and sometimes the kiss lasts a bit longer than the millisecond he's used to. It definitely helps as a study break because there's no concentrating when that happens.
It's rather embarrassing, so he prefers not to think about how much his face and neck have gotten used to reddening as a result of Kagiura.
(Maybe...)
"Just one" doesn't even matter anymore. It really should be "just not on the lips" instead of "one". It's been more than one. It's been too many to count.
(And...)
The next one isn't an accident. It's a very calculated move actually, when Hirano is making his bed look neat. He's slightly leaned over it to straighten his pillow and is about to adjust the items on display over his bed when Kagiura comes up behind him and plants a kiss on the back of his neck, his exposed nape.
He didn't see it coming, so this time, a violent shudder runs down his spine and he slaps a hand over spot. "Jesus— fuck!" Kagiura is giggling, turning around immediately, singing, "I couldn't help it, sorry!"
A warning would have been nice, but Kagiura's been kissing him for a while anyway. A kiss on his nape is almost nothing compared to everything else, the accumulation of the kiss history Kagiura has on Hirano.
He sometimes wonders why he lets it go on anyway because kissing is substantially romantic in his opinion, but so far, except for the jaw and the nape, the rest have been given from relatives before, so it's not a big deal. Besides, Kagiura seems happy with it, and if he's being honest, they're nice coming from Kagiura. They're (usually) short, sweet, gentle, makes his entire self warm. So there's still no harm done.
(Vocal)
"Just one" should have mattered here the most, but somehow, it didn't. It mattered the least.
Sometimes Kagiura does alternate between every other seal. His hand still happens naturally, sometimes he almost kisses his hand in public and has to pretend he was spitting on it or something, and Hirano feigns disgust and bats him away. Kagiura still sometimes kisses his eyelid as a joke, but when Hirano’s tired it's the ultimate comfort. He gets a forehead kiss when he's studying hard. He gets a cheek kiss whenever. He gets a jaw kiss when Kagiura gets needy. He gets a nape kiss as a little game they play when Hirano can catch it before it happens and not shiver.
It's an accident this time because he's tired as hell, Hirano's almost sure Kagiura's eyes are barely open when he mutters, "Goodnight Hirano-san," and leans over the the back of the chair to give him a kiss.
Hirano isn't sure where Kagiura is aiming for, but instead of literally anywhere else, the unexpectedly wet and warm lips end up somewhere close to the back of his ear, and the surprise and sensation causes him to gasp, and the gasp wakes Kagiura up into holding Hirano’s shoulders and staring at him like he just threw something toward his face.
He's never been more self-conscious. He doesn't even know how to react to Kagiura's reaction, one that says he knows he just unlocked a new reaction out of Hirano himself, one that he wants to see again, one that Hirano’s sure he won't last in.
So when it happens again moments later, Hirano has no other reaction than to reach behind him and bunch a fistful of Kagiura's shirt into his hand until he can't take it anymore.
(Again)
"Just one" is a roadblock. Now everything's more than a one time thing. There are no more accidental kisses. Everything's calculated, on purpose, Hirano waits for one and he receives. He doesn't know what he'd do if Kagiura stopped suddenly because he likes them all. Even the ones that render him unable to breathe, ones that embarrass him more than he thought possible.
This one was surely on purpose too, maybe due to Kagiura being a little cautious about his face now, but Hirano’s packing up his school materials to go to sleep and Kagiura comes to say goodnight. Hirano waits for an impact to his face, purposefully not moving in order to avoid a repeat of the ear event, but the warmth originates on the top of his exposed shoulder. It's too quick for him to think much about it, but he does freeze and turn his head to Kagiura, who just smiles sheepishly and turns to get back to his bed. It's become so normal now that his embarrassment isn't the kiss itself anymore, but what comes with it, and after it.
Absently, he rubs his shoulder, and for the first time, wonders if he should return the favor.
(My turn)
Just one, he says to himself. I'll kiss him one time.
He doesn't know where he wants to try first. There's so many options. Hirano's not willing to go as far as Kagiura's ear, not knowing what he'd do if Kagiura's ears were as sensitive as his, and he's not jumping straight to his jaw either.
Hirano angles himself at his desk to see Kagiura sitting at his own desk just enough, and he leans his cheek onto his palm.
He thinks about Kagiura's hands, the prominent joints and long fingers, rough from sports but still pretty. Kissing his hand doesn't sound so bad.
He thinks of his cheek. His skin is soft, usually super warm, a contrast to Hirano's cold touch. That doesn't sound so bad either.
He thinks of his forehead, stroking Kagiura's black, fluffy bangs away to press his lips against, maybe right at his hairline like Kagiura did to him, only long enough to want more, just as Kagiura does to him.
He thinks of an eye kiss too, because Kagiura has big and beautiful dark eyes that shine way brighter than they should. Kissing his eye would be like kissing the blue sky without the blue.
You know, Hirano thinks, kissing Kagiura is like kissing the sun.
You know, Hirano thinks, I want to kiss Kagiura.
That thought doesn't come as much of a surprise. Not enough of one.
He bites his bottom lip and turns around, now pressing his palm against his mouth in hopes to suppress whatever desire just popped up into his brain before he could properly water it down to just liking being kissed. It's not enough anymore.
"I want to kiss him" is the only thought in his mind when Kagiura comes over to his desk. He braces himself for a kiss because now he has to not turn around and kiss him back, but there is no kiss. Kagiura's arms fold around his shoulders and over his collarbone and his head falls forward until his hair kisses Hirano's cheek instead. This, he didn't expect. It's the hug he had once shot down. And he knows he's stupid for it because it's one of the warmest feelings against his heart that a kiss alone can't accomplish. It doesn't last long enough, he thinks, when Kagiura let's go and says, "Goodnight, Hirano-san."
It's a quiet one, quieter than usual, and Hirano’s instinct is to grab Kagiura's arm before he can go to his bed.
His junior only blinks down at him from where he stands, almost appearing shocked, but Hirano stands up and makes a decision.
He doesn't really know how kissing works, but all he knows is that he's not ready yet, even though he's in motion, so Hirano's backup plan is to quickly, lightly push his lips onto the corner of Kagiura's mouth, having to pull him down slightly by his shoulder too.
Kagiura's gaping, sputtering, and it takes everything Hirano has in him not to do the same. "Goodnight, Kagi-kun."
(Just one)
Just one, Hirano says to himself before Kagiura goes to morning practice. He's already up, he's wracked his brain about it all night, worked out the best way to do this and why. If he doesn't do it now, he never will. Not the same way.
Kagiura's kicking on his shoes and saying, "I'm off," but Hirano’s already, well, stomping over to him and grabbing his wrist to make him turn around. Then he's holding Kagiura's face between his two cold hands and pulling him forward until it's not just a kiss, it's kissing. They're kissing on the lips and Hirano wonders if he could have saved himself the grief of letting Kagiura do this from the start.
Hirano sucks at it, maybe they both suck at it, he's sure they knocked teeth and it's sloppy but it's the final button push.
They barely move away from each other, their foreheads kissing this time, breaths tangled in one another. Kagiura whispers, "Hirano-san, how am I supposed to go to practice now?"
Don't go, he almost says, but he's not gonna do that. Hirano finds himself grinning against his roommate, his junior, his love personified's lips. "Have a good day, Kagi-kun," he's giggling, and Hirano feels Kagiura pout for the first time and it's amazing, but now he's feeling Kagiura laugh for the first time, and he knows this first is the one he'll remember forever.
There's no "just one" anymore. Now it's a never-ending cycle of "just one more".
