Conlang Dialogue: House of the Dragon, Season 1

This is the created language dialogue from first season of HBO's House of the Dragon. (Please note: This work contains spoilers for season 1 of House of the Dragon.)

Note: I recently learned about using chapters here on AO3, and so this series has been reformatted. This should be a cleaner format moving forward.

I've said it elsewhere, but it was the work I did on House of the Dragon feels like a gift. I was allowed to create a writing system for High Valyrian, which was used all over the place—and in key places—and the dialogue I was given to translate was of the highest quality, and in great abundance. It was an absolute joy to work on this show, and I'm so glad it's come off well and been received positively.

TRANSLATION
Dohaerās, Syraks!

DRAGONKEEPER ACOLYTE
Calm... Calm...

TRANSLATION
Lykirī... Lykirī...

Wait... Focus!

TRANSLATION
Umbās... Rȳbās!

DRAGONKEEPER ELDER 2
Come! Forward!

TRANSLATION
Māzīs! Naejot!

RHAENYRA
What do you think you’re doing, Uncle?

TRANSLATION
Sparo drīvose gaomā, kepus?

DAEMON
Sitting. This could well be my chair one day.

RHAENYRA
Not if you’re executed for sedition.

Notes:

It was really a treat to get to work with High Valyrian again—especially with the kind of volume I got for House of the Dragon. I got the bulk of the dialogue all at once to translate, and reading through it, I was really struck by the quality of the writing. This new show was going to require a lot of new vocabulary, and really stretched my abilities as a translator.

In addition to the main dialogue, there's a lot of dragon commands here and there. They may be slightly different on screen, and there may be more or less of them, depending on the episode. These are the ones that were initially called for in the script, but I also gave them a big list of dragon commands that I'm sure they shared with relevant extras and post production to use where relevant. So you may hear more than are here, or some that are here may be different on screen.

There is a lot more High Valyrian to come! I'm excited for everyone to see this season, and hope for many more seasons in the future!
