Work Text:
Grian had been up for days working on his base. He had to- he had to keep working and thinking otherwise he’d think and then- He paused the train of thought swiftly and moved on.
He was fine everything was fine. So what if he hadn’t slept for a bit? He was fine.
He slammed the blocks on the ground in frustration, nothing was working. It was all pointless. He let out a groan, irritated. And in the back of his mind a little voice whispered how horrible his base looked and how it’d be much better if he blew it up.
The thoughts came quicker, saying how the hermits must pity his work and his sore excuse for a ‘build.’ Grian couldn’t breath. The breaths he took were too short and tears flooded his vision. He grabbed his wings, tugging on the feathers for some sort of sense of grounding. He continued to do this until out of the corner of his eye he spotted a bottle.
—————
Mumbo hadn’t seen his feather friend in a while. Which was concerning or terrifying knowing how much he loved pranks.
Despite this he couldn’t help but feel worried and decided to fly over to his base.
Arriving he instantly noticed a lot of progress he had made since he had last been around. He could just about see Grian’s base from his base. But it looked more grand up-close. The building was impressive in size and he couldn’t help but feel in awe with the way he used different blocks to accentuate different parts of the build.
He shook his head, this wasn’t why he was here. He looked around the base and spotted Grian sitting in a corner, different blocks displayed around him. From the back he saw his wings flared out, gaps of feathers missing from what Mumbo hoped to be mobs or moulting season.. He felt a sense of dread feeling it wasn’t either options.
Getting closer, he could see Grian up more closely and heard he was muttering something under his breath.
He put his hand on the man’s shoulder and Grian’s head snapped to look at him, “Grian?”
His head clumsy tilted, “Ohh heyyyy Mumbo J’mbo” he slurred out.
“Are you drunk?” he asked looking for his reaction.
Grian smiled, “Nah nope, wouldn’t dare” he replied a smirk in the tone.
“Right, course. Well i think you’ve done enough and it’s time for bed-“
“Noooooo,” Grian whined clutching the nearest block, “‘M not finished.”
Mumbo put his hand on his shoulder, gently pulling him away from the blocks.
“C’mon it’s late anyway, you can work on this when you’re sober.”
The builder stared at him for a second before clutching his stomach.
“Feel sick,” Grian replied, clumsily falling into Mumbos arms.
With the sudden dead weight on Mumbos arms he tried to stumble back to the Grian’s bed.
————-
After a lot of effort, Grian got distracted on the way to his bed and also had tried to sleep on the floor. At one point he had even claimed his moustache was fake because it was ‘too handsome.’ The cheek!
He gently placed Grian onto his bed, lazily throwing the covers over him and doing the last check to make sure he was okay. And just as he was about to leave he heard another whine “M’mboooo”
He hummed back in question.
Grian, with a lot of effort, sighed and propped his head up on the pillow to make eye contact with the redstoner. He made grabby hands at him, “sleepyyy timeee,” Grian loudly whispered.
He chucked, “You want me to sleep with you?” They weren’t too touchy, as friends. It was a well known fact that Grian was one of the least touchy Hermits. Aside from Jevin. Most the hermits were fine with any sort of hugs or cuddling as it was important as not to feel so isolated. A bit ironic for them to be called hermits. Of course everyone had their boundaries but Grian never explicitly asked for any sort of touch or hug. Almost flinching away from it, rarely indulging.
Grian sighed dramatically and dropped his head to the side. Mumbo could just about make out the slight pout in the low light and made his way over to the bed. He shuffled in the bed, pulling the covers gently, trying to make sure not to overstep any boundaries. As he settled down, he felt two warm arms wrap around his waist. The sudden warmth shocked him and he jumped a bit, “..Grian?”
“C’ddles, please,” the builder slurred pausing for a second before continuing, “D’n t wanna be alo’e.”
The last but was quieter but Mumbo could hear it from behind him. His heart sank, they’d definitely have to talk about boundaries tomorrow morning.
And if he listed heard he could have sworn he heard a sniffle from the shorter.
He placed his hands over Grian’s, “It’s okay, you’re not alone,” he promised. After that he felt his grip loosed a bit and Grian let out quiet snores. Just as he too was about to sleep he felt a wing protectively wrap around him.
