Work Text:
“Will you be my boyfriend?”
Treys jaw dropped a bit, genuinely confused by this. Was Vil, Vil Schoenheit, actually asking him to be his boyfriend?
The answer was no.
“Of course, fake boyfriend.”
Treys shoulders loosened up and a sense of sadness washed over him, he never had feelings for Vil but something about him asking made him happier. He wouldn’t be one of the only single ones in the dorm anymore, Riddle has Epel, Ace and Deuce have each other, and Cater was crushing on Rook. Maybe he just wanted someone to love him too.
“What?” Trey responded after a moment of silence.
Vil chuckled, “I said, will you be my fake boyfriend?” She crossed her arms, “people think Rook and I are dating, we need someone to counter that so I’m asking you.”
“Why me?” Trey also crossed his arms.
“Because you’re the prettiest man I know.” A laugh escaped Vils mouth.
Maybe the laugh was because Vil was joking, or the expression Trey gave after hearing that. He turned a bright red color and had a blank stare at Vil. “W-..Huh? I-Thank you?” He was stumbling on his word, he covered his face with his hands.
‘How cute…’ Vil thought and giggled. “So will you take up my offer? I’ll even give you money in exchange.”
Trey nodded slightly. “S-Sure.. for how long..?”
“About… two weeks?” Vil smiled in return.
“Okay.. sure. Yeah..” Treys mind was running, he broke under the impact of that compliment.
Vil went to leave but quickly turned around on his heels, “Oh, we should probably establish rules right?” He smiled and walked over to Treys desk, taking out a piece of paper and a pen.
Trey watched her walk around his room like she owned the place. He walked over to Vil, who was now sitting in his chair, standing next to her and watching her write.
The rules were listed:
1 ) Vil Schoenheit and Trey Clover are to act romantic in public.
2 ) The fake relationship will end in two weeks.
3 ) Any romantic feelings developed from either parties is strictly forbidden.
Trey nodded, lightly signing his name at the bottom and handing the pen to Vil so he can do the same.
And thus, the two weeks started.
——————
Day 1.
It was a little awkward, walking through the halls together, but both of them picked up on it quickly and got comfortable and relaxed within moments. They posted about each other and tagged each other, it was the first day of their ‘relationship.’
Trey was asked many questions, and was even threatened once or twice by weird fangirls who somehow made their way into NRC.
But overall, day 1 went smoothly.
——————
Day 3.
Day 2 was the same as day 1, but at one point in day 3, while Vil was with a group of girls, He ran to find Trey, and when he did he threw him into an empty hallway.
“Kiss me.”
“What?”
“You heard me!”
And with that, Trey pulled Vil in and kissed her, both of their eyes slipping shut. It was rough, but only because he pulled her in a little harder than he meant to. He loosened up the kiss and made it so it was more comfortable for Vil, but to his surprise Vil grabbed his hair, lowered him down, and then slammed him into a wall, making the kiss even more rough. Treys chapped lips against Vil’s more soft lips, which did have lipstick on them, meaning Trey was going to be questioned a lot once he got back to Heartslabyul.
It’s like Vil had been waiting—yearning for this moment for years, even after the fangirls chasing him left he still leaned harder into the kiss, gasping for air.
“Wait—Vil—!“ Trey managed to say against Vils lips.
Vil pulled away slowly, looking at Trey and then looked around to make sure no one was around. “Hm?”
Treys breath was heavy, it took him a few seconds before he could speak again. “Y-Wh—What was that?!”
Vil laughed—fucking laughed. “What? Is a kiss gonna hurt you??”
“Vil!” Trey exclaimed, “Y-That was-…”
“Was I too rough? My apologies.” She stepped back so Trey had more room.
“It’s not th-that just.. what happened? Are you okay?”
“Oh yes,” Vil nodded, “Just some fangirls and fanboys were.. you know, annoying me? I needed an excuse to get out and then I spotted you.” He smiled innocently.
“Oh.” Is all Trey can say before the bell rings. “We’re gonna be late, c’mon.” He took Vils hand unexpectedly, which made her blush as she walked with him to class.

Day 4
Day 3 was.. a rough start to their relationship.
Correction
Fake relationship.
It was a rough start to their fake relationship. But yesterday didn’t seem so ‘fake.’
The way Vil had his hands in Treys hair, how long the kiss lasted, how rough it was, none of it seemed fake.
Trey pushed it off as “Vil’s just a good actor.” and didn’t talk to him for the whole day, faking being sick just so he wouldn’t have to leave Heartslabyul.
He hated himself for doing this, but he couldn’t bear to even look at Vil, he’s scared he’ll.. have temptations.
Three knocks were at the door. “Who is it?”
“Riddle. You have a visitor.”
Treys breath hitched, he had a feeling he knew who it was. “Uh, let them in.”
Once the door opened, he heard heals on the floor and knew exactly who it was. Watching her walk in and the door slowly close, he realized that his plan to not look at her failed.
“Are you okay, my love?”
and that broke Trey. He just couldn’t speak, he turned away from Vil and subtly nodded, covering his face with his hands.
She laughed, “You fluster easily. Good to know..” She walked over to the edge of Treys bed and sat on the side he’s turned to.
Trey looked to the other side—or tried to. Vil swiftly moved Treys hands from his face and cupped his face, “What’s wrong, dear?”
Trey just stared into Vils eyes, desperately wanting to kiss him again. “N-Nothing. N..Nothings wrong, Vil.”
“Are you sure?” She tilted his head up and to the side a bit, staring at his neck. “You look.. red?”
“You know what you’re doing don’t you?” Trey tried to counter her comments.
“Maybe I do.” Vil moved Treys head to look him in the eyes. “Can I kiss you?”
“I’m sick.”
“Is that a yes or no?”
Trey thought for a moment and nodded, and with that Vil softly kissed him. It wasn’t as rough but still was coated with desire for each other.
After a moment, they pull away. But it was clear they both wanted more, “I have to get back to Pomefiore.” Vil stood up and walked to the door, “tell me when you get better, love.” He said with a smile and left, softly closing the door behind him.
A sense of sadness washed over Trey, he felt.. lonely? But he just shook his head.
He was NOT developing feelings for Vil Schoenheit.

Day 5
Scratch that, yes he was.
He stayed in his room again, with Cater popping in to check on him here and there, the dorm thought he was sick after all.
Whenever Trey closed his eyes, he saw Vil. Whenever Trey was left in silence, he heard her voice.
It’s only day 5, can he survive two weeks?
He sighed, sitting at his desk, trying to think of things to take his mind off of Vil but nothing was working, it all cycled back to her.
So, he decided to give into his desires and text her.
Trey: [Vil?]
A few moments later, a response was given.
Vil: [Hello! This is not Vil, it is Rook. Do you need her?]
Rook.
For some reason, Trey just wanted to put his phone down and ignore Rooks message, and ignore both of them, but he already started the conversation.
Trey: [Oh, no it’s nothing urgent.]
Vil: [Are you sure? I can get him now, he isn’t too busy.]
Trey: [No, it’s okay. Thank you.]
Trey walked over to his bed and fell on-top of it, laying on his back with his phone held up by both his hands, looking through his texts with Vil.
Some you could tell they were ‘just friends’ and others seemed to flirty to be normal, and some were two sentences of just ‘Are you free?’
It hurt him, he wanted to talk to her. He wanted her. He needed h—
“Ding Ding! Delivery for Trey-kun!” Cater announced, barging through his door with no remorse.
Cater was one of the few people who knew about the fake dating, and for a while it was going to stay like that.
Trey sat up and put his phone down, “Oh, thank you.”
“Yepp!” The ginger put the food on his desk, waffles and.. violets, Treys favorite. “What’s up, Trey-Trey? How’rya feelin’?” Cater asked, walking over to Trey and sitting down next to him.
“I dunno.” He sighed, “It’s about Vil.”
“Oohh? The whole ‘fak—“
Trey put a hand over Caters mouth and nodded, “Yeah, but you can’t be that loud when saying that. Only you and Rook know.”
Cater nodded with a displeased look in his eyes, and Trey removed his hand. “Aww, okay. What about him?” The ginger lowered his voice significantly.
“Well..” The other began, “She—Uhm, so. I dunno what it is but.. I texted her because she’s all I can think ab—“
“You actually like her, don’t you?”
“Let me finish.” Trey scoffed playfully and pushed his glasses up, “Because he’s all I can think about, and Rook responded asking if I needed her and—I dunno. Maybe I got jealous?”
“Woahhh…” Cater laughed, “Trey-kun jealous? #WOW.”
“I know! It’s so.. off. I hate it, because—It’s not Rooks fault the whole school thought they were dating.. but once Vil and I stop.. whatever this is, they’ll just go back to Vil and Rook and—and I don’t.. want that.” Trey admitted, he felt horrible for saying all of this, but Cater gave him a reassuring look.
“Jealousy is normal, Trey! You should talk with him.”
“No. We aren’t actually dating, so I shouldn’t be.. upset, over this.” The green haired man picked up his phone and looked through his texts with Vil, Cater peering over his shoulder and pointing to a certain text.
“That isn’t very ‘fake dating’ of her, is it?” He said into Treys ear, making Trey have to re-read the text.
The text read, ‘Trey, please come over. I need you, I really need you.’
This was before they even started ‘dating…’ Why didn’t he ever think about this???
“Well—That’s…” Just as he started to defend himself—well, more defend Vil, he got a text.
Vil: [Did you need me love?]
Cater laughed loudly, “Oh, and you still claim she doesn’t like you? What’s the use of using pet names over text if no one can read them?”
“I don’t know. She’s a celebrity and—maybe people.. wanna see her texts? It’s weird.” Trey started up and tried typing a response but he didn’t know what to say.
“Here,” Cater pat his back, “I’ll leave you alone to think, make sure you eat!” The ginger got up and left, almost slamming the door but catching it before he did.
And now, Trey was left alone and had to figure out a response.
After a minute or two of fumbling, he settled on a simple reply.
Trey: [It was nothing urgent, it’s alright now.]
In a matter of seconds, he got a response.
Vil: [Are you sure? I’m not busy at all. Do you want me to come over?]
Trey typed yes into the texting box, but deleted it almost immediately.
Trey: [It’s alright, I’m still sick, and I don’t want to infect you.]
Vil: [Trey, I kissed you while you were ‘sick.’ Are you lying?]
How did he almost forget about that?? He has no excuse now.
Trey: [Oh, well it’s okay. Maybe you just got lucky.]
Vil: [You take me for a dumb woman, love. I’m coming over.]
Trey: [Vil.]
Vil: [Trey.]
Trey: [You’re busy, yeah? It’s okay, really.]
Vil: [I’ve already left Pomefiore.]
Well fuck.
Trey was screwed, now he had to see Vil! And—Well, he’s not against that in the slightest, he was just worried. He needed to control himself.
After a few moments of panic, Vil opened Treys door without even a knock and walked up to the man who was pacing, seeming not to notice Vil even being in the room, and hugged him.
“It’s okay, my love.” She spoke, “I’m here.”
Trey tried fighting to not melt into her touch, but to no avail he fell right into her trap.
“You—You were busy, weren’t you..” Trey asked, nuzzling his face into Vils shoulder.
“And if I was?” Vil giggled, rubbing Treys back. “You’re more important, love.” She put a hand in Treys hair, lightly grabbing on.
“God..” Trey mumbled into Vils neck, “I love you.”
Those three words made Vil pause, ‘love?’ They hadn’t used that word all of the relationship.. she pulled away from Trey in shock, which left Trey standing there, looking at her confused.
“Er—“ Vil started up, “Uhm—Hah, sorry.” He kissed Trey quickly, trying to avoid any suspicion from him.
It was weird, ‘love.’ Vil didn’t actually like Trey like that…
Right?
The third rule was to not fall in love, so he won’t…
Right…?
“Vil?” Trey leaned into the other, making his move back ever so slightly. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes, love, just..” He needs to think of an excuse, “Remembered Rook needed me. Goodbye.” He didn’t even look at Trey as he walks out the door. He felt guilty for lying to him.. but..
As the green haired watched Vil leave, he felt a sense of emptiness when the door shut. Rook, again. It was Rook again, the reason why she left.
But Trey felt like it was his fault..
He decided to sleep on it.
——————
Day 9
Neither of the two talked over the weekend or on Monday, not a text, not nothing, but after classes Trey had gotten a text from Rook. He reluctantly checked it and his heart dropped.
Rook: [Trey.]
Okay, well that’s weird.
Rook normally calls people some French nickname, not their actual name. Treys hands shook as he went to type a response.
Trey: [Rook?]
Rook: [What did you do to Vil.]
What did he do to Vil?! He hasn’t talked to him in three days??
Trey: [??? I haven’t talked to him since Friday??]
Rook: [Come to Pomefiore.]
Without hesitation, Trey quickly stood up from his chair and walked out he door, but right before he did he got another text.
Vil: [Trey]
Vil: [Trey don’t listen to Rook please]
Vil: [Please please don’t come over please I’m begging you Trey please]
What the fuck?
Trey just stared at his phone, glancing back at his room and then at his phone. This is so.. weird for Vil? She isn’t using punctuation, and she’s begging for Trey not to come over.
What had Trey done?
Trey: [Vil??]
Trey: [Tell me what’s going on, I’m worried.]
Vil: [Then don’t be]
Vil: [Hustv senstau bafkc at heartslabyul pelase]
Trey: [I’ll be there shortly.]
Vil: [TREY DONT]
Vil: [oh m y fucking god]
Only five minutes went by and Trey was already at the Pomefiore mirror, he ran as fast as he could to get there. He took a deep breath and stepped through the mirror.
The aroma of the dorm felt welcoming but he knows he isn’t welcomed, especially as he saw a familiar purple haired boy walk up to him.
“Trey, we don’t want you here.” He spoke.
“Then tell me whats going on with Vil, please.” The other looked down to Epel.
“He doesn’t want you to know.”
He stared at Epel before muttering a small ‘I’m sorry.’ and shoving past him, barging into Vils room.
Upon walking into the room, Treys eyes took a minute to adjust to the sudden darkness. Vils lights were off, the curtains were shut, and Rook wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Shutting the door quietly, he walked into the room, trying to look for a silhouette of Vil.
And that’s when he heard it.
Choked out sobs and whimpers from the middle of the room.
Trey ran up to the figure and hugged her from behind, knowing exactly who it was when his hands touched her waist.
She let out a small gasp and turned her head to Trey, who had his forehead on Vils shoulder, whispering stuff like “It’s okay, Vil.” and “I’m here for you.”
Trey locked his legs around Vil and hugged him tighter, trying to give him a sign of safety and closure as she cried even more.
After a couple minutes of crying, Vil wiped his tears and sat there, catching his breath. Trey let go of Vil and turned her around to face him.
“Vil?”
Hurt purple eyes stared into concerned yellow ones, not knowing how to respond in the slightest.
Trey began, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk, really, but you worried me.”
“I-I’m-I’m really sorry, Trey—It’s-It’s just—“
“You don’t need to explain yourself.” Trey cut her off, pulling her in by her waist. “It’s okay.”
Vil nuzzled her faces into Treys neck, getting makeup on his school uniform. “This is embarrassing, isn’t it..”
The vibrations from Vils voice on Treys neck made him feel a bit more flustered than he should, but he tried his best to ignore it. “It’s okay, Vil. It’s not embarrassing.”
The other chuckled underneath him and lightly pressed a kiss on his neck.
Trey let out a shaky sigh and rubbed Vils back, trying to ignore the heat rushing to his face.
“Thank you for coming by.” Vil said in a low voice, he had to know what he was doing.
“Yeah, yeah of course.” Trey quickly responded, still rubbing Vils back to try and distract his mind off of the way he felt.
Another kiss was landed on Treys neck, then Vil spoke right into his ear. “I love you too, Trey.”
What.
Woah, woah woah, what?
Trey had almost forgot the fact he said that to Vil a couple days ago, he paused rubbing Vils back to process everything.
“And..” Vil started up again, but pausing to kiss Treys cheek. “You’re amazing.” He kissed him again, “And beautiful, and..”
As she trailed off, whispering praise to Trey, he froze up. He had no clue what was going on, one minute he was comforting her and the next she was praising him.
“And I love you.” Vil said, taking Treys face in between her hands and kissing him.
It was rough as Vil leaned into the kiss and lightly pushed Trey back, making him hold himself up on shaky arms. As both of them shut their eyes, Vil made her way onto Treys lap to kiss him even harder, taking gasps from each other every time they pulled away just to go down for more.
After Vil pulled away, he stared at Trey with a smile, and Trey just stared back.
Fake or not, there was something brewing here.
