Retired doesn't mean weak

Summary:

Gol D. Roger survived the illness that should have killed him, once again triumphing where he had no odds of winning. After Roger achieved his goal, he returned to the love of his life to live out his life with only calm days ahead. His son was born and doted on the boy, soon enough gaining two more sons in the coming years. He approved of their dreams and would not get in the way of them.

But he drew the line at executions.

The Marines better be prepared, because the Pirate King is coming, and he won't rest until his son was safe.

Chapter Text

“Is this contraption on?”

“Yes, yes it is, Roger.”

An exhausted sigh came from behind the camera. A wide smile appeared at that, looking directly into the camera.

“Hello, I am sure some of you know who I am. I am Gol D. Roger, the Captain of the Roger Pirates. And I am here to tell you guys something vital.”

A wider grin appeared, full of mirth and glee.

“Do you want my treasure? You guys can have it! Everything is at that place! Find it!! I have no use for it anymore.”

A loud joy-filled laugh echoed into the camera when it cut off, leaving the world in shambles.

The last sighting of Gold Roger stirred the world.

Rumors floated about the seas, everyone scrambling to find the man who started one of the greatest pirate eras. No one could find a hair of the man who conquered the seas with only bounty posters and stories proving the man existed in the first place. The Marines gave up the search after years of using their influence to find the pirate, but with no luck.

Dark King Rayleigh could still be seen in Sabaody, undisturbed by the Navy in fear they would stir up a hornet's nest. The rest of the ex-Roger Pirates were rumored to be sailing the Grandline, and every single one would not say a word about their missing captain.

But even then, there were rumors. Rumors that Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, grew sick. That he was dying and left his will for the world to see.

That the only reason the Roger Pirates disbanded was that their captain was dead.

With no word on the legendary man who gained even more notoriety than the Strongest Man in the World, Whitebeard, the Marines froze the over five billion bounty. It could only be claimed if there is hard evidence the pirate was dead.

The world continued to go on, a mystery joining the history of the world, most likely never to be solved.

The Marines still wanted to put Gold Roger in the ground to be made an example of, but without a body, nothing could be done.

The truth was that Roger did get sick.

It was a deadly disease with almost zero chances of curing, but Gold Roger wasn’t a legendary figure for nothing. He was cured of his sickness the last year of sailing, just before reaching Laughtale. But the lingering effects of the disease caused Roger debilitating side effects. Once he achieved his dream, Roger thought he could still sail for longer but knew he had more to live for. He achieved what he set out to do, and now could only let future generations achieve what he did in hopes one of the kings was one of them.

Roger decided he needed to kick-start the era, and he did so with glee.

Roger disbanded his crew soon after, telling the crew that he would be retiring, hoping to heal from the sickness that plagued him for half a decade and more. He knew it took a toll on his aging body and didn’t want to put too much strain on it when Rouge was waiting for him.

He told his crew that if asked, they would say nothing. Roger knew that the World Government would not let him go without killing him for he knew too much. They knew the truth about the Void Century, which was punishable by death. Roger knew his crew was strong enough to keep themselves safe, so he left the Oro Jackson with light shoulders.

Only Rayleigh knew what he was doing, the only one who knew where Roger would go. Rayleigh was Roger’s brother in all but blood, and Roger would never keep secrets from the man who was at his side throughout his whole journey. It would be a disgrace if such a thing happened. Roger would insult Rayleigh if he did so. So he didn’t.

There was a white Den-Den in his pocket, specifically paired with the one Rayleigh used. The only thing that could contact him with Roger.

Roger met up with Rouge on a backwater island, making sure his hood was up, covering his recognizable face. Roger knew that if he wanted to retire in peace, he had to leave no evidence of his existence where he went. He was not scared of a fight, he was too powerful for that, but Rouge didn’t deserve to be hounded.

Roger didn’t deserve the woman, so he wanted to keep Rouge safe from what his reputation gained. He had too many enemies to count, so Roger ducked his head in the light, making sure no one saw him.

Roger found the blonde hair of his wife, and everything got better. The ache in his lungs lessened, and his heart soared. Rouge caught his eyes, and she lit up the room, making Roger unconsciously relax.

When they hugged, Roger hugging her tight to his chest, he knew his decision was correct.

His journey was over, but his story was not yet over. Now, he was just Roger, the loving husband of one Portgas D. Rouge.

Roger was satisfied with that title.

Their son, Gol D. Ace, was born after two and a half years into Roger’s retirement.

It was a hard birth, but Ace and Rouge were healthy, and Roger was crying. Rouge made Roger carry Ace with hesitation, afraid of hurting the young babe. But once Roger held him, he felt the same, or if not more, love for Ace than he had for Rouge.

Ace had wispy black hair and freckles that mirrored his mother's. He was so small, able to fit in one of Roger’s large calloused hands, but Roger only beamed down at the tiny child.

He had a son, and Roger was over the moon.

He may be a bit old for a first-time father but knew both he and Rouge would do their best for the life they brought into the world. Roger would protect him, and that was a promise.

(Roger may have called Rayleigh crying, barely understandable when he gushed about his son, who was the "absolute cutest". Rayleigh was confused, to say the least.)

Roger looked at Shanks, leaning against a doorframe, watching Shanks play with Ace. Ace was laughing happily, grinning up at his older brother. Roger considered his Cabin Boy a son of his, so that was how Ace and Shanks were introduced. Roger was still retired and made sure to keep out of any watchful eyes, but he managed to send a message to Shanks, saying he wanted Shanks to meet someone.

Shanks was shocked to see a miniature Roger and Rouge in Roger’s out-of-the-way forest home. Roger knew a lot of islands that had barely any occupants in the East Blue, so it was simple to find a place where Roger couldn’t be recognized, too out of the way to get the news.

Shanks poked Ace in the cheek, the twenty-year-old having no idea how to act around a tiny human, especially his captain’s son. Ace pouted up at Shanks, and Roger guffawed loudly.

Shanks glared at Roger, who only laughed harder.

Rayleigh met Ace when he was a baby and routinely visited his nephew every chance he got. Rayleigh was called Uncle Rayray by Ace, and Roger would laugh so much at the soft look Rayleigh had while holding his nephew while calling him a childish nickname.

Rayleigh gave him the stink eye he perfected in his years knowing Roger but was distracted soon enough by his nephew patting him to go higher.

“Up! Up!”

Rayleigh grabbed Ace by the armpits, Ace giggling while moving high in the air.

Roger grinned with Rouge by his side, satisfied. Watching his best friend run around the room with his happy son made Roger’s heart warm.

He never thought this would happen in his lifetime, knowing years ago he could have died by now. Roger never feared death, but he wanted to stay in the world of living for his wife’s sake, at the very least.

When Roger got the diagnosis that he would most likely die to an incurable disease, he took it in stride. He lived every day like it was his last. He could have been killed tomorrow or the day after. Roger only knew his life span was shorter than the average and didn’t think much of it. Everyone else did, though. He understood that, so he didn’t mention it.

And when Crocus cured his sickness, Roger was relieved, because he still didn’t fear his own demise, but because he wouldn’t leave his crew and wife so soon. His death didn’t scare him, but the grief of his precious people did.

But now he was living a fulfilling life, and he wouldn’t change it for a thing.

Roger still felt the call of the sea, but it was lessened than when he was a teenager thirsty for adventure. The call back then was like gravity's pull, strong and inescapable, but now it was a dull pulse that Roger could push off. He was a father now, and his era was over. Ace and Rouge needed him here, and he wouldn’t betray their trust.

“Captain, I want to tell you something.”

Ace gave his big brother a questioning look, ten years old and willy as one. Roger patted his son's head, who grumbled at the gesture but didn’t push him away. Roger’s grin grew wider at the reaction and gave his son one last pat before he exited the tiny cottage, following his former cabin boy, giving him a once over.

Once he got outside his son’s eyesight, his face transformed into a frown, concern in his eyes. Shanks shifted, eyes not meeting Roger’s eyes. Roger raised an unimpressed eyebrow, Shanks shifting his feet nervously.

Shanks may be a billion-berry bounty now, but he was still the boy Roger practically raised as his own.

Shanks had one missing left arm, still bandaged, and Roger could see some blood seep through the white bandages. He was missing the straw hat Roger gave him when he was just a child, and Roger raised his eyebrow higher.

Shanks sighed and chuckled nervously, finally meeting Roger’s eyes. He smiled widely, not an ounce of regret on his face.

“Remember that kid I talked about the last time I was here?”

Roger nodded, arms crossed.

“The one that wanted to join your crew and said his punches were as powerful as pistols?”

“That’s the one.”

Shanks sighed again and looked down at his missing arm. He rubbed it, and Roger tilted his head and frowned.

“He’s a dumb little kid who stabbed himself in the face to show me he was a man. He’s a good kid, though.”

Shanks looked into Roger’s eyes, some awe in his eyes. Roger straightened, gaining new interest.

“He said the exact thing you said, Captain. He wants to become the Pirate King, and… I gave him the hat, telling him to return it when he becomes a great pirate.”

Shanks gained a look in his eyes, and Roger widened his eyes.

“Captain, I think he is the one. I think he is Joyboy.”

Roger turned serious, warring emotions in his chest.

“How confident are you?”

“100%. He encapsulates all the criteria and is only seven.”

“All criteria? He’s a D?”

Shanks nodded and smiled, half grimacing.

“I asked his full name before I left, to make sure. He is a D. Got the appetite to prove it.”

Roger was curious at Shanks’ reaction, feeling like there was more to the story. Shanks saw the look and scratched his stubble.

“His name is Monkey D. Luffy.”

Roger blinked at that, a scoff in his throat. He didn’t expect that.

“So one of the hypothesized rulers is Garp’s relative. Who would have thought.”

Shanks grimaced more, hunching his shoulders. Roger raised his eyebrow again.

“Luffy… isn’t just a relative of Garp.”

“And…?”

And … Haaa… Luffy is a direct descendant of Garp. His grandson, to be exact.”

Roger felt shock go through his body. He gapped, and Shanks nodded with tired air.

“Garp has a kid?! And didn’t tell me?!!

“I feel you’re mixing something up here.”

Roger thought to himself, absentmindedly eating at the dinner table. He glanced at Ace, who was eating his portion of food.

“Hey, Ace. What do you think about making a new friend?”

Roger looked down at the small child with a straw hat too big for his tiny head.

Luffy tilted his head, but eyes sparkled at Ace, who was glaring at Luffy like he was a future threat. Luffy chirped and ignored Roger entirely to talk to Ace, who only backed up with confusion on his face.

“Hi, I am Monkey D. Luffy!! What’s your name?”

“Ace.”

“Hi, Ace! Want to be friends?”

“Fuck no.”

“Aww, I won’t give up!!”

Luffy was glowing with determination, and Roger burst out laughing. His lungs ached from the use, but Roger felt like he would bust a gut. He liked this kid!! Ace looked at Roger with betrayal, Luffy already trying to hug his son. Ace dodged, making Luffy trip to the ground, but he got up fast, ready to go for another chance.

“Dad! Make him stop!!”

“You boys are getting along already!”

“Dad!!”

Roger was still laughing when Luffy chased Ace, and Ace not wanting to deal with the seven-year-old. Roger stopped laughing, but the bright smile was still on his face. One of the things Roger regretted was that Ace couldn’t grow up like a regular kid, not having friends his age. They made due, but they always wanted Ace to have more relationships than just their small family.

Roger grinned, satisfied. He was proud he got Ace a future friend, and he only hoped they had a relationship closer than Roger’s and Garp’s. Roger may have trusted Garp as much as his crew, but they both knew Garp would arrest Roger if there was even a chance of taking him in.

Luffy finally managed to catch Ace and laughed proudly, to Ace’s aggravation. Luffy grinned widely and ran away from the boy.

“Get back here!!”

Roger sat on a boulder, watching over his son and new friend. He had a good story to tell Rouge when they returned home.

Roger grinned at the sleeping forms of three boys, his son one of them. Luffy was there with a blonde boy he had never seen before. Roger closed the door behind him, making sure not to wake the young boys.

It looks like he had more boys to look after.

Roger was proud of his son, leaving his comfort zone and getting to know more people. He loved to see it.

“Ah... shit.”

“Dad?”

Ace looked up at Roger with confusion, the other two boys noticing the change in Roger.

The two boys knew who Roger was and were so excited to regularly meet the King of the Pirates. Luffy had stars in his eyes, almost like how he looked up to Shanks, and Roger preened at the looks. It was certainly surprising to find out your brother was the son of the Pirate King, and he was alive and well. They all asked for stories about the Grandline, and Roger could only answer with glee.

When Roger found out the brothers made a brother’s oath, he was grinning madly. The last time he heard those words was when he did the same with Rayleigh. It had to be fifty years by now, and that made Roger feel old.

He had three sons now and wasn’t that great. He adopted the two boys into his family and knew Shanks would freak out. He wanted a picture of when that happened.

He loved all the kiddos, and Sabo looked confused at Roger’s actions. He made sure to keep a close eye on that one. He knew the look of a neglected child, and Sabo had one. If Roger was still in action, he would steal away the boy on his pirate ship and make sure none of his demons could kill him.

Luffy was also a lonely child, and Roger was glad he decided to find the prophesized ruler. He wasn’t the conqueror of the Grandline just yet, a child who could take a hit but not yet the powerhouse he would become. Actually, the three brothers had more potential than the majority of the people in the New World. Roger was excited to see the chaos these three would cause in the future.

Roger looked into the distance, sensing the familiar aura of his rival. He looked down at the three kids, especially Luffy, who only looked confused.

“Your grandfather is here.”

Luffy blanched, paling rapidly.

It looked like Garp still deserved his reputation.

“Roger!!!”

Garp burst into the forest’s clearing, huffing with wide eyes. He stared at Roger, who was sitting calmly with the three boys around him. Roger waved good naturally, calm as a sunny day. He grinned brightly at his old friend.

“Heya Garp! It’s been a while.”

Garp stared at Roger for a second, looking the man over. He probably saw Roger’s greying hair, a t-shirt, and shorts instead of the captain's regalia. His sword was still at his side, the one thing Roger would not store away.

Garp then stared at Roger’s leg, seeing Ace glaring at Garp from behind Roger’s leg. Garp looked at Roger with a sigh.

“You have a lot to explain, Roger.”

Roger and Garp talked during the night, Roger making sure the brothers were sleeping and not trying to eavesdrop on the conversation. Garp raised an eyebrow at Roger’s action, and Roger didn’t let the look get to him. He only grinned at his rival and broke out a bottle of alcohol. Garp took it without even testing it for poison. He knew Roger would rather have a fair fight than do something as cowardly as poisoning.

“You're a father. Count me surprised.”

Roger grinned, glancing at the room his son was sleeping in. Garp looked there too, frowning. He looked back to Roger, his gaze showing how serious Garp was. Roger leaned back, hand still around the small glass of alcohol. He could drink a little, not wanting to aggravate the old wounds on his lungs. Rouge would have his head if she discovered he was drinking, so he decided only one glass was all he would drink.

Roger chuckled, setting the glass down on the table. They were in the small house Roger made for their visit to Dawn. Rouge was out, so he didn’t expect her to be back for a week at least. With Roger too noticeable, Rouge was the one who went out to markets and such. He hated not being by her side, but he knew she could hold her own. She may not be New World level, but she could fight off anyone in the East Blue.

She had a mean right hook.

He knew that from experience when he first met his wife. He didn’t make that good of a first impression.

“Me too. I didn’t know you had a family. I’m betrayed that you didn’t tell me.”

Garp looked at Roger like he was serious, but Roger was dead serious. He wasn’t hurt that he wasn't told, but he didn’t like being left out of the loop. Especially when the people he considered friends were involved.

Garp ticked his eyebrow, Roger knowing that happened when Garp was annoyed.

“My son is a bit of a brat.”

Roger leaned in with his grin widening.

“That just makes it more interesting.”

Garp scowled and moved past that conversation, but it only made Roger more curious. He thought he would have heard of Garp’s son by now, considering his status in the Marines. The marine hero’s son was quite the title, even if they didn’t do anything with that reputation.

“Why are you here, Roger?”

Roger smirked, amusement sparkling in his eyes. Garp sighed at the look.

“My cabin boy mentioned a curious kid in the East Blue with the name Monkey. I had to meet the kid. Also, Ace needed a friend his own age.”

Roger glanced at the room again, some of his fondness leaking through. Garp stayed silent for a moment, observing Roger, who didn’t attempt to hide his emotions. Garp knew him too well to hide anything from him.

“His name is Ace. Your son?”

Roger nodded, a gentle smile on his face.

“Yep, Gol D. Ace. He goes by Portgas D. Ace outside the family.”

“Portgas?”

“My wife’s name.”

Garp muttered under his breath, but Roger heard him anyway.

“Of course, he has a wife. Let’s just add one more thing to the list.”

Garp ran a hand through his graying hair, and Roger felt their age at that moment. They met when they were only teenagers trying to make their mark on the world in their own ways, Roger as a pirate and Garp as a Marine. It looked like they made their mark alright. Roger remembered Garp as a teenager who barely had any muscle, only slim muscles to show his strength.

“You disappeared for them?”

Roger’s smile dimmed but never went away. He rubbed his chest and grinned lightly.

“Ace was born a few years after I retired, but I married Rouge years before I disappeared.”

Roger looked up at the wooden boards of the house he built. He tapped the table, Garp not interrupting him.

“My time was coming to an end. One thing was true about all those rumors. I was sick for some time, and when I was cured, I wasn’t the same man I was before. I could have still sailed for some years, but decided to leave before Rouge decided to leave me for good. I left her waiting for too long, so I retired. Had Ace, and I haven’t looked back.”

Garp chewed on that, visibly trying to understand Roger. Roger understood. They both were men that would rather die fighting than of old age, so to find out Roger retired without lasting as long as he could, was a shift in behavior. But Garp didn’t know how damaged Roger’s body was after the sickness was cured.

Roger woke up with lungs that could barely hold air, muscles unwilling to listen to him. If Roger moved too much, he could risk ripping his delicate lungs, coughing up blood in response, along with periods where Roger could barely breathe. Roger wouldn’t be able to hide those symptoms from his enemies for long, and he would hate to be the reason they were attacked because they could smell blood in the water.

“Then why did you decide to let me see you? You know who my allegiance is to.”

Roger leaned on a fist, looking at Garp, gesturing to him with the glass of alcohol he picked up. He sipped it and fiddled with the glass.

“I do, but I also know you're a man of honor. You wouldn’t arrest a man who had a son to take care of, especially when that man is doing nothing wrong.”

“Roger.”

Roger gazed into Garp’s eyes, raising an eyebrow and gesturing with wide arms, allowing Garp to take a good look at him.

“Do you see the Pirate King? I am just a humble father who loves his wife and son. I’m not a risk, Garp, not if I have no reason to be. I'm retired for reason, Garp.”

Garp frowned but didn’t bring the conversation back. Roger moved the conversation on, bringing up their glory days.

They talked well into the night, and both were laughing at the end of the night.

Roger knew that Garp wouldn’t say anything, knowing it would affect his grandson, and didn’t want to harm the kids in the aftermath. Garp left the island with wary eyes, seeing how attached Luffy got to Ace and Sabo, knowing he wouldn’t be able to break them up.

Roger laughed at the look only to get an attempted punch to the face, which Roger blocked, and it transformed into a slap fight. Well, it might look like a life-and-death battle by the destruction they caused, but this was nothing.

Luffy’s eyes were sparkling by the end of the fight, so he figured the strain in his lungs was worth it.

Soon after Garp’s departure, Roger took the executive decision to permanently relocate Luffy and Sabo to their original home on the backwater island. This happened after Sabo’s biological makers came to get him back with violence. Roger was displeased with this development and managed to get them back off with a hooded cloak over his face.

A few days later, a fire in the Gray Terminal and subsequent news of a Celestial Dragon’s arrival was enough for Roger to decide. Before he left, during the fire he did meet a curious individual.

Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy’s father, and Garp’s son.

No wonder his name wasn’t known, the World Government knowing just how much chaos that would cause in the view of the world.

Roger grinned at the man, Dragon noticing just who he was. They only shared a few words, but Roger got the impression Dragon was his father’s opposite, liking to stay in the shadows and not show his strength, also had the inclination to think out plans, not burst into them. He could see how the Revolutionary Army gained so much strength in the ten years it existed.

Dragon did mention taking care of his son, so he found that out somehow, but Roger wouldn’t question it. It was probably a father’s instinct, something he had after having Ace. He certainly needed it after Ace started walking and got into trouble. It only got worse with his brothers.

One of the examples was when Roger had to rescue the brothers after Ace activated Conqueror's haki at ten years old. They were threatened, and Roger was angered at the gall of the cowards who tried to hurt his sons. That sorry pirate crew was sent to the underworld, and Roger grabbed his sons and left the flames, hoping Sabo’s injury wasn’t that serious. Sabo was burned by the flames near his left eye. It would scar, but Roger hoped Sabo didn’t lose eyesight in that eye. He was too young to be permanently scarred.

So yes, Roger did take the boys, aside from his son, away from that island, but he knew it to be best. Dawn held Sabo’s family he wanted nothing to do with, and he could always visit the island again if Luffy wanted to see the villagers.

Garp would have to live with it because his grandson was his now, and Roger didn’t let go of the people he cared about.

He would be pissed, but Roger ignored that thought.

If they were happy, Roger would take the fall. That was a father’s duty, after all.

The boys grew up into fine men, and Roger was proud to watch over them during the years. He felt blessed all over again, watching his son grow up into a strong young man who would take the world by storm, along with his brothers. Sabo was going off to join the Revs after his seventeenth birthday, Roger giving him hints about some of their locations.

Shakky, or the previous Empress of Amazon Lily, who Roger thought of as Rayleigh’s girlfriend more often than not, gave him the info. There was a reason the rumors spread so fast, and Shakky was the reason. She did good work and had connections around the world, so finding some Revs was simple enough.

Ace would be the first one to go, and Roger tried not to cry when he sailed off but failed.

Miserably.

His eldest son was all grown up and leaving the nest, and he was proud and sad in the same measure. Roger knew his son was strong, Roger teaching Ace the beginning of Haki, knowing Ace would improve in time. He also taught Luffy and Sabo at the same time as Ace, so it was always a struggle to get them to focus.

Rayleigh helped with that because Roger wasn’t the best teacher, but Rayleigh was. He could only come so many times in a year, but when he did, he spent it with his nephews. Shanks made more appearances, but he and Luffy avoided each other, staying out of eyesight so they didn’t have to break promises.

Roger found it hilarious.

Roger would have introduced the boys to Buggy, but kept his distance, knowing how his other cabin boy thinks. He didn’t want to bring attention to himself, fearing the reaction of the World Government. He and Shanks grew more distant, and Roger was saddened by the fact.

Roger watched Ace sail away, waving and smiling back at them, going out to create his own crew and make his mark on the world. Roger wiped his eyes, feeling Rouge at his side. Luffy was waving back, smiling widely. Sabo grinned and looked out to see his brother leaving.

Roger knew Ace would be great on the seas, and he couldn't wait to see what he did.

The house felt empty with only one child, Luffy, the last one to set sail. He was out hunting, and Roger felt the empty nest. He didn’t know what he would do when Luffy left.

He shrugged, twirling his gray mustache. He would figure it out then. No need to rush.

“He stole Ace! Newgate, that bastard!!”

“Oh, Ace has more friends. That's wonderful.”

“Rouge, that’s not the point!!”

“Ace must be so happy.”

“Rouge!!”

Roger looked forward to reading the specially ordered Grandline paper every morning.

He had to pay extra to get Grandline issues, but it was worth every berrie. He wanted to see his sons activities, even with all the World Government propaganda. Whenever one of his sons did something and/or got bounty increases, Roger was proud. He had a special place to store all the bounty posters, from the first to the most recent. Sabo didn’t have a bounty poster at the moment, only because he was too good at staying hidden, the sneak.

Ace’s and Luffy’s bounty were ones to not scoff at. Ace had barely been on the seas for three years and already got to a billion whereas Luffy was just starting out and had already gotten to five hundred million.

Roger laughed brightly whenever he saw what Luffy did, certainly making the name D stand out.

The last Roger heard Luffy punch a Celestial Dragon. Oh, how he wished to see that. Maybe he would get Rayleigh to describe it since he was there, at least the newspaper said so. Roger knew Rayleigh was at Sabaody recently, so there was a good chance he was there.

Roger hummed to himself, a smile on his face which froze at the newspaper's headline. He felt fury rising inside of him and gritted his teeth, eyes gaining a sharp edge he hadn’t worn for decades. Bloodlust wafted off him, scaring the wildlife in a mile radius. He felt this blood rush, adrenaline once again flowing in his veins.

“Rouge, I am going to need the boat. Something’s turned up.”

Roger grabbed Ace, his Supreme Grade sword, a partner he had at his side for the majority of his life. He paused, then grabbed the coat he hadn’t worn in two decades. The coat settled over his shoulders just like in old times.

Roger glared down at the newspaper, fury still rising.

Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Flame Emperor Ace, is to be executed at Marineford. Is this a declaration of war to the Whitebeard Pirates?

The World Government dared to try and kill his son

Roger was sympathetic to their plight. If they wanted to die so badly, Roger had to answer their call.

Dangerous light radiated from Roger’s eyes, haki collapsing the area around him.

The soft father Roger could no longer be found, but Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, returned to the sea with rage in his blood. There was a reason Roger was called as such, and now willing to show just why that was.

And nothing could be prepared for his wrath.

Notes:

Well, hello all. I thought of this AU and I was like why not. This won't be that long, only probably having a few more chapters, but I like what I have written so far.

Oh, by the way, you guys will understand why I changed the things I did in the second chapter. I'll keep it a surprise ;)

Comments and Kudos are very much appreciated.
