Work Text:

Crowley knew all about conflict, after all as a demon he had influenced many.

But apart from their differences in the mission they had given themselves to prevent the apocalypse, this was the first time he had really clashed with Aziraphale and it was the first time he felt so bad.

Because this time he had so much more to lose.

He didn't even know what had caused the argument and his words had gone over his head. He had gotten angry at Aziraphale and had blamed himself as soon as the words had left his mouth.

Now they were both standing there in the kitchen in dead silence.

Aziraphale was quietly making tea and Crowley didn't know how to start the conversation.

Apologize, apologize...

"Crowley."

Although Aziraphale spoke softly, Crowley was startled when he heard his own name.

This was the moment.

This was the moment when Aziraphale would admit that he was done with him, that he didn't want to be with him anymore.

Lost in thought, he didn't answer.

"Crowley, are you going to talk to me or would you rather we continue to ignore each other?"

He couldn't lift his eyes to look at his face.

He didn't want to see the disappointment on Aziraphale's face.

He couldn't help but whisper, "Is this the part where you say you're done with me and are going to ask me to leave?"

Keeping his eyes down, he didn't realize that Aziraphale had moved closer until the angel grabbed his chin and lifted his head. He looked flabbergasted and asked with a confused tone, "What put that idea in your head?"

Seeing the softness in Aziraphale's expression, Crowley shook his head, realizing the absurdity of what he had just thought and began, "I don't know, I..."

Aziraphale interrupted him, "Forget it. It's not a little disagreement like this that's going to make me leave you, you idiot. It was bound to happen sooner or later, arguments are part of life, but you and I have enough experience to know that half the things we say to each other in the heat of the moment don't reflect what we really think. Plus I think our average argument in so many millennia has been pretty good, don't you think?"

Crowley nodded, feeling comforted by Aziraphale's gaze.

However, even if his words hadn't reflected his thoughts, he still wanted to apologize.

"I'm sorry. All those things I said, you have to know that I really didn't mean them. I don't even know why I said them, I was just angry. Aziraphale... If I lost you, I don't know what I would do."

"I love you."

Just with those words from Aziraphale, their fight in itself didn't matter anymore.

Aziraphale kissed him gently and added, "And I'm sorry too."

They hugged each other and were relieved to be able to reconnect.

For a long time they remained entwined in silence, but the silence was not the same as before. It was filled with the certainty of being forgiven and the love they had for each other.
