"What's eating your brain again, baby?"
Kevin's eyes trailed after the gorgeous omega, who had left the elevator before them. Jaehyun gained the beta's attention by grabbing Kevin's left hand tightly.
They stepped out of the elevator and slowly walked hand in hand towards the subway station. Kevin couldn't meet the alpha's eyes, as his thoughts were gnawing his mind away.
It was their third date now and Kevin still couldn't believe Jaehyun had confessed to having feelings for him and asked him out. The hand in the alpha's unconsciously clutched harder, as if to make himself realize that this was real.
"Kev, please talk to me."
Jaehyun's sudden request firmly stopped them from walking further and Kevin was sure he wouldn't get away without answering and spilling the truth.
"It's just… Did you see that omega lady in the elevator?"
Jaehyun's head tilted to the side in confusion as he cautiously hummed, not knowing where Kevin was going with this. He didn't even realize there had been an omega in the elevator.
"She was very pretty. Gorgeous, even."
"Uhh, okay?"
"I don't know, sometimes I ask myself why you would settle for… Me?"
The alpha now seemed to know what Kevin was trying to say, but gave the beta a confused smile back. Just like the day the alpha had confessed and Kevin had pointed at himself questioningly.
"I don't know what brought this up again, Kevin, but I don't get why you don't think I'd voluntarily be with you. I like you a lot. With emphasis on you."
Jaehyun stepped closer to give Kevin a gentle peck on the cheek.
"I like the chemistry we have, I love our inside jokes, I love our little playful squabbles and I really enjoy every minute we spend together."
Jaehyun pressed their foreheads together, putting his heart and soul in to show Kevin how serious he was.
"Of course I find you attractive", the alpha swiped a loose strand of hair from Kevin's face.
"But me asking you out was because I like being around you."
Kevin finally found the strength to give Jaehyun a small smile back. His insecurities slowly being extinguished, the fire in them burning low.
Jaehyun's eyes twinkled like they usually did, when he had a very much stupid idea and right then Kevin found himself in a hug, as he heard 'i like me better when I'm with you' by lauv sing-whispered into his ear. They slowly turned step by step while hugging and whispering the lyrics to each other. By now Kevin was brightly smiling, grinning from ear to ear.
Calming down, Jaehyun felt the need to continue to tell Kevin what was on his mind.
"What we have is way deeper than good looks and if we really have to go there, I need to tell you that I'm really into you talking back to me."
An omega and alpha couple just passed them and visually they were the cliché: tiny fragile omega and big buff alpha. Jaehyun shook his head gently then.
"I don't want submission, I want the fire and when we joke around and argue, that… baby, gets me going", the alpha whispered behind a hand, spilling the secret.
Kevin couldn't help the laugh, it rumbled through his whole body and he had to clutch onto Jaehyun to keep himself on his feet.
"Okay, I get it", Kevin regained his breath and initiated another hug, "thanks, Jaehyun. I really needed to hear that."
With that cleared up, they held hands again as they got on the subway. Jaehyun walked him home, greeted Jacob at the apartment door and left the Canadians. Then returned to his own place.
A sweet goodbye kiss, nice pasta dinner and a walk through the Olympic park, that all concluded tonight's date and Kevin knew if he allowed himself to trust Jaehyun's feelings there would be many more dates to come.
