Work Text:
It was the first day of the new semester and surely, Yuki was sighing relentlessly while walking to school. Well today is not going well for him, he stayed up to watch Milano’s match and they lost straight sets to Perugia. God, he is just tired, heartbroken and he just felt like sleeping the whole day but here he is, walking to school like a zombie. He snapped from his trance when he felt a light touch on his shoulder, accompanied by a light ‘good morning’ from the other side. Damn, the overly familiar voice that he would never get tired of. It was Masahiro of course, they have known each other for ages and he is also the main reason why Yuki got into volleyball. He has to hold his laugh and giggle seeing how sleepy Masahiro looks right now, he must have stayed up to watch the match too. His sleepy eyes were still decorated by the same usual smile that Masahiro always wears when they are together. Yuki suddenly felt a tight clutch in his heart when the realization hit him. “Give it up! Give it up,” he heard the voice again and again.
Time sure flies, Yuki thought to himself. They were only 3 months to graduation now. He was just chilling with Masahiro when he heard the whole story about how Masahiro had gotten a confession from someone from a university nearby. Yeah, Yuki refused to hear the details that much but then he saw that smile, that-overly-bright-and-radiant smile coming from Masahiro. His favourite part of him, his signature smile where his eyes will turn into crescent while his lips turn into a full smile. The smile that he had vowed to protect because that particular smile has saved him from himself countless times. The smile that gave him happiness and a reason to continue everything. With gritted teeth, he took two deep breaths and flashed his most genuine smile. “Great to hear that stupid, you sure look happy now!” was said before he gave a light ruffle on Masahiro’s head and walked away. “Give it up! Give it up,” he heard the voice again and again. He walked home, with mixed feelings and tears brimming on his face that day.
The wedding bells were still ringing vividly in his mind. Masahiro’s bright smile, his melodious laughter, his crescent eye smile, everything. Everything was still so vivid in Yuki’s mind even though it is 2 in the morning now, almost 3 hours after the wedding ceremony ended. “Give it up! Give it up,” he heard the voice again and again. But this time, Yuki smiles to himself. His job is done here, his favourite smile has its new protector now. “Thank you for coming into my life, I hope you will be happier than anybody else.”
