Chapter Text

Seeing Kamino so empty was... a pretty terrifying scenario. That's what Fives thought, and Echo had agreed with him.

He actually hated it, hated seeing all those hallways destroyed, blaster marks all around the place, the bodies. But he had to scout the place, both of them had to, as that was what Captain Jesse had ordered them to do.

Still, he couldn't brush the feeling of something being very wrong beyond the obvious, like a kind of darkness and danger still lurking around. Maybe that way why they were sent to scout on the first place.

"How long will this take us? We've been walking for ages!" Maybe he was exaggerating (he really was), but he wanted a little rest at least.

Echo gave him a look that could be felt through his helmet, clearly not very amused by his twin. It was pretty easy to shut up once you realized how much you were disappointing your favorite brother.

They kept walking in silence, until something catched their eyes.

"Hey, this door wasn't here last time, right?" Fives asked, looking at Echo. The door itself was, in fact, half open, just enough for them to tell it was there on the first place, as if it wasn't even meant to be discovered at all.

Definitely not eerie at all, no sir.

"I don't think it was, unless the longnecks were doing some interior design while we were gone," he could definitely feel the absolute eye roll Echo must have sent his way. "Wanna check it out?"

"Are you kidding? Do you want to get in trouble?" Hissed his twin, obviously not very on with the idea of getting caught somewhere where they obviously shouldn't be.

"It's going to be okay, just in and out, easy," definitely easier said than done, but he had a feeling, he needed to go in and find what was hidden on the other side. "And if we get caught, we can say we heard some strange noises coming from inside."

Echo considered for a second, and Fives was would be truly disappointed if he said no (but not mad, he would understand why his brother wouldn't want to go in a possibly get in big trouble), but fortunately, Echo was on board with the idea.

The door itself was tall, but not very wide, just big enough for a Kaminoan to fit comfortably through it, like all the doors on Kamino. It led to a dark hallway, as neat as any other part of the facility on a good day, nothing of interest to see.

The truly interesting part was the room across the hallway.

It was a laboratory, a pretty big one, and there was no way it hadn't been there before. It made Fives wonder how many more secrets like this Kamino hid at plain sight. There were multiple cells, but all of them were empty and open.

That's when they started to hear the sobs.

For a second, Fives thought it was just his mind playing some sort of tricks on him, but a quick look to Echo made him realize that what he was hearing was real. The sound, apparently, came from one of the cells at the very end of the lab.

Definitely not a trap, not at all.

They made their way slowly, trying to stay as quiet as possible, a bit of an impossible task considering that they both were wearing full armour, but they managed. The sobs were becoming louder and louder the closer they got, and at that point it was obvious that they belonged to a human.

Despite the whole situation, despite what everything was leading up to, Fives, on his personal opinion, wasn't expecting to see that it was a fellow clone the one who was stuck in there.

The vod was curled up on themselves, little sobs escaping their lips and racking their whole body, hands covering their face from the world. The skin that wasn't covered by a gray body suit was littered with white patches of skin, an obvious skin condition which name Fives knew but was unable to recall.

Of course, that wasn't the most eye catching characteristic of the person, but rather the fact that they were big, bigger than any other sentient creature they had encountered in their short life. They were so big that Fives didn't doubt they would be able to grab him with their two big hands like if he were just a doll and it wouldn't mean a significant effort on their part.

The thought definitely made him shiver.

"What the absolute fuck?" Asked Echo outloud and, yeah, that was an expected reaction considering the whole circumstance.

The vod, apparently having heard them, stopped crying, and slowly revealed their face to them, absolutely perfect and exactly the same as theirs, except for the obvious size difference, the patches of white skin, and the blond hair instead of the usual black.

They looked at them with their big eyes, their face completely blank and absent of any signal of emotion, just looking and their helmets and their armours. In a way, it felt like they both were being medically assessed; Fives had to resist the urge to squirm in place.

Before either Fives or Echo could say something, they spoke, voice so tiny and frail it would be unbelievable it had come from someone so big.

"Are here to decommission it?"
