And if you can forgive

Summary:

Brad and Patrick have been miserable since their break-up in the cafeteria fight. Can they fix their relationship?

Work Text:

The fight in cafeteria had hurt Brad and Patrick in more ways than just physically. Despite not saying it outright, both assumed that they had broken up. They hadn't spoken about it since. Or spoken to each other at all.

It was a late Saturday evening when Brad decided he had had enough of this. He walked all the way to Patrick's house and arrived at one in the morning. He knew that Patrick wouldn't be asleep though. Patrick never slept any earlier than three o'clock.

He looked up at the window that had it's curtains drawn. He picked up a handful of pebbles and started to chuck them one by one at the window. After twenty or so, the curtains and window opened revealing a disgruntled Patrick.

"Who the hell-" He yelled before spotting Brad. He made to close the window.

"Wait, Patrick!" Brad yelled, causing Patrick to leave the window open, but with his hand ready to close it at any minute. "Can we talk?"

"We're talking right now." Patrick retaliated.

"You know that's not what I meant."

"Don't know if you guessed or not but I don't really want to talk right now."

"Come on, please? Just once and if it doesn't go well I'll leave you alone forever." Brad practically begged.

"And if I don't?" Patrick asked.

"I'll come to your house every day and do this. When you go away to college I'll get a dorm near yours and keep doing it."

"That's stalker level obsession."

"Just come down here please." Brad asked once more.

Patrick sighed. "Alright fine. Give me a minute."

When Patrick made it downstairs he was still in his pajamas and his hair was a mess.

"Make it quick, it's cold." Patrick frowned and crossed his arms.

"Do you want my jacket?" Brad asked.

"No." Patrick said coldly.

"Okay." Brad shrugged. "How are you?"

"Can we just get to the point? You're here because you want to talk about our relationship, probably ask if we're still together or not, argue a point about something, then leave."

"Yeah okay." Brad paused. "Are we still together?" He asked, his voice soft. He had one answer he wanted and based off of Patrick's attitude it wasn't the one he was going to get.

"I don't know Brad, are we?" Patrick unfolded his arms and shrugged almost sadly.

"I hope so." He answered.

"Why? Why me? You could find any boy who'd be willing to have sex with you. Why do you even want me? It's not like we can date the way you could date a girl." Patrick looked directly into Brads eyes and folded his arms again.

"I don't want to date a girl, you know that Pat." Brad said. "And I don't want a different boy. I want you."

"But why?" Patrick asked again.

"Because you're funny and you're nice and you're into weird stuff like when you do the Rocky show every weekend and you helped me with my whole alcohol thing and you're always there for me and your friends are so much nicer than my 'friends' and you're okay with being secret." Brad listed.

"And what if I'm not? Okay with being secret." Patrick asked.

Brad hadn't thought about that. Patrick had always seemed fine with it. Had he not been?

"Well... My dad already knows. It's not like I have any reason to hide it anymore." He shrugged and winced a little at the memory of his dad finding out.

Patrick frowned. "You say that but you don't mean it. Like when Mary Elizabeth asked if you would play Rocky, 'No there's people out there'. Or when we were all out at the club and we were going to all wear makeup as a joke and you didn't want to 'seem gay'. And so many other things. It's easy to say you won't keep it a secret but it's easier said than done."

"But I mean it." Brad took Patrick's hands in his own. "Really. I want to go to all those stupid school dances with you. I want to hang out with you and your friends in school. I want to be able to go on dates with you. I want to tell people you're my boyfriend."

Patrick started to cry. "Really?"

"Really."

"God, you're difficult." Patrick laughed as he pulled Brad in for a hug.

Brad pulled back and instead kissed his boyfriend.

"In front of the whole street already?" Patrick laughed.

"I mean what I say." Brad shrugged with a laugh.

"Good." Patrick smiled and pulled him in for another kiss.
